The Affairs of Ladies: Interdimensional Magical Girl Service [Closed]

How about this: tme travel shenanigans, and a dragon.

Just - I just wanna see you. Riding your motorcycle. Through a field of medieval knights. Fighting a dragon. That's, that's all I wanna see.

"No." With that note of finality, Rachel stood up from her chair to depart.

"Rachel, please!" The younger girl rose from her seat and quickly darted to grab Rachel's hand before she could leave, fixing her into place with begging eyes. The numerous denizens of the cafe looked on with curious interest, before a small glare from Rachel sent them back to their business. "I need you. The Association needs you."

The two stood in awkward silence, before Rachel acquiesced and sat back down. She brushed off the girl's hand, smoothing out her suit. "Fine, I'll hear you out," she grumbled. "Make it quick. I've got work in the next few minutes."

Carol Schwaltz, nominal leader of the Astral Magica Association, heaved a sigh of relief and gave Rachel a beaming smile. The braces in her mouth gleamed in the rising sunlight. "I'm sorry I had to ask you for yet another favor, but this is important."

"I haven't promised anything," warned Rachel, taking a sip from her coffee. She winced as she felt it burn her tongue. Too hot. "All I said was that I would hear you out."

Carol took a deep breath as she steadied herself. "Alright, you know the 66th Legion?"

Rachel scoffed. "I'm not that old yet, Carol. Heck, even you were there when we kicked them out of Earth with their tails clenched firmly between their butts. And you were a practically a fucking toddler back then. So they've finally gathered the courage to come back, huh."

"We've gotten some reports that the Legion have deployed again, but..."

"Get to the point."

Carol winced. "We overstretched ourselves. Markova and Zhi are dealing with an influx of 'immigrants' in Japan, while Maria and Lana are hunting for the a shapeshifter in New York. I could do this myself, but I'm also needed in Hamburg to help out the girls over there. In short, we're short on people who can deal with this."

The Astral Magica Association may have been a world-spanning organization with a sizable number of girls to draw on, but not many had experiences with going into the very heart of the enemy operations. The number of magical girls who could pull off a stunt like that without backup could be counted with one hand.

"Sloppy," noted Rachel, keeping her tone even. "I would say I was disappointed, if this wasn't the bare minimum I expected of you lot when I left."

Carol slammed her hand on the table, rocking the cups and plates. "Well, if you weren't such a shitty teacher and you actually gave a shit, maybe we wouldn't even be here!" she shouted.

All conversation in the cafe suddenly ceased as attention was brought to their little corner of their booth. Rachel continued to stare at the heavily breathing Carol impassively. Eventually, Rachel said, "Right, moving on."

Carol cleared her throat and sat back down, bashful. Noticing that the show was now over, the other customers swiftly went along their business. "Anyway, we need someone to check out an apartment by the riverside. Some of our girls have heard and seen unsettling things going on over there. Whispers, disappearances, people going in and coming out changed -- the usual. For you, anyway." She placed a card down on the table.

Rachel stared at the card for a minute, before stuffing it into her blazer. "Right, anything else you need to get off your chest? More of your abandonment issues, maybe?"

Carol shook her head. "No, I... That's all for now. You will, of course, be properly compensated for your time."

Rachel nodded and stood up, picking up her sling bag on the floor. "Good. I would say 'see you around', but I really wouldn't want to." She deposited the full payment, not even allowing Carol to protest, before turning around and heading to the Sullivan & McGregor Law Offices for another hard days work. She could always check it out later.

Hey, who knows, maybe there weren't any demons.

***
"GRAAAAAGGGH!"

There were demons.

Easily ducking below the demon's cumbersome blow, Rachel spun around and gutted him. He didn't have time to comprehend it as Rachel sliced off his head afterwards. The body slumped over, then dissolved into black smoke. Personally, Rachel found demons to be the most convenient -- no muss, no fuss. No need to devote an entire day to wiping down floors, they were their own cleaning service.

Sighing, Rachel rested her sword on her shoulder as she eyed the fearful faces of the demons surrounding her.

"This would be a lot easier for the both of us if you would all just leave," she said. The offer was serious, too. Rachel didn't have the patience to cut them down one by one.

The peons looked at each other, then what remained of their beheaded lieutenant, before screaming and rushing towards her in a huge mob.

"... Welp, don't say I didn't warn you." A slight frown tugged at the corner of her lip.

- I Restrain: Shields can keep things out, but they can also keep things in. By using one Edge point, she can trap an enemy within a barrier and collapse it on them. The barrier is treated as a Mook, with a Threat Level equal to the number of Yang points committed. All the enemy's attacks can only target the barrier. Plus, this allows her to attack again, using the same number of successes. This can potentially allow her to damage an opponent's Chi twice.
@Hoshino Yumemi, did I word this right? Also, can you review my sheet? :)

Our Heroes: Helena C. Carter, the Shining Vanguard
@Hoshino Yumemi

And my First Draft is done. Criticisms would be much appreciated from anyone in the Thread. :p

Name: Helena C. Carter, A.K.A. 'The Shining Vanguard'

Description:

(5' 8", Wiry)

Source
Bio:
As the youngest in a family of three siblings, Helena had plenty of role models to look up to as a child. Her mother had been a Nurse for at least two decades while the eldest child, her sister, was following in their mother's footsteps as a Paramedic. Her brother, meanwhile, was just a couple of years behind and looking to get into a University to pursue a career as a Lawyer. And her father, the one who had raised them all with his wife, was a distinguished Police Constable with years of service under his name. With that in mind, it came as no surprise that Helena cherished and felt proud of the people whom she belonged to as a family, even if they were oftentimes away due to study or work.

Her father, in particular, who even as busy as he was took the time to be with her youngest daughter when he could. Those rare occasions where the young girl found herself laughing and smiling on her father's lap as he regaled her with stories from his work and stories of make-believe, of Knights roaming the land in search of wrongs to right, are some of her fondest memories. Helena, for her part, threw herself into her studies and while she was no genius, the girl worked hard to make sure that her family would not find her lacking.

But Life has a way of turning even the most idyllic life on its head: Helena's father, though a proud man, was growing old with every year and did not have the strength that he had in his youth. So it was one day that the youngest daughter had heard that he had fallen ill and that his condition was quickly deteriorating; a byproduct of the stresses of his work coupled with his advanced age, the Doctors said. Shocked by the suddenness of his father's malady, Helena found herself at a loss on what to do.

If her mother and sister's friends, all of them trained Medical Personnel, were already trying their best then what could she do, a mere teen? With little other in the way of recourse, Helena prayed, even if she had never been a pious woman, as the days ticked by and it seemed that the man she admired and loved would not recover. She would do anything, anything, to see her father get well.

And curiously enough, someone answered.

It came in the form of a cute little critter who hopped onto her windowsill one afternoon, when she had fallen asleep on her desk; distracted by her father's condition to get any studying done. The creature's offer was simple: become a Magical Girl and fight Evil wherever it may for a time, in exchange for a Wish that could be fulfilled no matter what the conditions. Helena was skeptical at first, for the creature's offer felt a little too convenient, but the thought of her ailing father loomed heavily in her mind the entire time. So it was that the Shining Vanguard came to be that afternoon, with Helena's father making a miraculous recovery within the next few weeks.

The newly-minted Magical Girl dove into her new role, knowing that she was fighting both for her family and for those who couldn't help themselves, just as her father had done. That was a few years ago, and now with Helena entering College as a Criminology student, those years came with experience and a reputation among other Magical Girls as a Knight Errant: casting down Evil wherever she found it in her adventures. It was that same reputation which would lead to a certain Order coming to her with a proposition, one that would may well send the Shining Vanguard on a journey that she may never forget...

Traits:
Magical Vanguard (8): Helena strikes fast and strikes hard, as befitting of her 'Vanguard' moniker. She also has the capacity to use Magic offensively but her bread and butter is to get close enough to cleave her foes in half with her Halberd.

Quick Wit (8): One doesn't prosper as a Magical Girl if they can't think on their feet. What Helena lacks in experience compared to more veteran Magical Girls, she makes up for by being quick on the uptake.

Team Player (7): Helena knows how to get along with people, both due to her closely-knit family and her own extra-curricular endeavors in school.

Self Sufficient (6): Being the youngest child in a family of busy people meant that Helena had to learn how to take care of herself, with the help of said family when they could. She can cook, clean, manage her finances, and drive a car well enough, among other things.

[Weakness] Knight Errant (3): As a result of her upbringing, Helena finds it hard to tolerate any injustice she runs into. While not particularly impetuous, the temptation to bring her Halberd down on any Demon she sees and to intervene on behalf of someone in trouble is a strong one indeed.

Edges:
All-Out Assault: Helena may spend an Edge Point to raise her Yang Dice by 2 in an Attack at the cost of losing a Yin Dice (to a minimum of 0) during that Turn.

Evasive: Helena counts as having one extra Yin Dice for the purpose of resisting Physical and Magical Attacks.

Second Wind: At the cost of an Edge Point, Helena may remain in combat with only 1 Chi left instead of being knocked out of the Scene. She may also burn one Point off her Edge Cap in order to change a Lethal Blow into an Incapacitating Blow.

Trustworthy: When trying to convince people of good repute, Helena may raise her Target Number by 1. She may also spend an Edge Point to re-roll a botched Social Roll.

Chi: 5
Current Edge Score: 1
Edge Cap: 3

Why was I tagged? I'm not the GM. :V

Nice character, by the way. Good edges, too.

I was under the impression that you were a Co-GM or something, sorry.

And thank you. I have no experience with the Wushu System whatsoever (especially the Yin/Yang Dices) so that's good to hear, though maybe I could re-jigger some of Helena's current Edges (or make a new one) that isn't so heavily reliant on Edge Points.

Working on the backstory and revising a few traits right now.

You need to define what you'd like to do with Supercharge. I assume you either want it to do more than one Chi point fo damage if it goes through, you want free Yang points to power through opponents' defenses, or you're looking for more dice to overpower opponents with.

Free Yang points sounds more like what I had in mind, yes. I'm not really familiar with wushu, sorry.

I'd also like you to similarly tell me mechanics-wise what you'd like to do with Dodge This, as if we don't discuss this it could mean both Edge powers are too similar to one another. I'll Be There is good, though' you're temporarily overriding a stated limitation of your powers and that works.

Well, the intent behind it was to prevent nemeses from applying any Traits which could be used to Dodge, as opposed to Block. Of course if it's too generic/specific/powerful I can change it - or drop it entirely.

I might advise that the Unconventional Delivery System feels more like an Edge power unless I'm to take this to mean that your Trait allows you to heal non-player characters and fix plot-important machinery. Since the judgment call that restoring Chi is an Edge power-only thing, this Trait needs a fair amount of work.

Yeah, I had a feeling that was the case, that's why I asked for your opinion on it. I think I can just make it an Edge and call it a day, honestly.

He gives off that feeling... Hey, @UbeOne , what do you think, Arvins 'team player' sounds like the way I and especially Aurora act in a game , should i try to include that? Perhaps raise my flaw to get a pont or, two?

You want a team player trait?

If I were the one doing the stats, and I wanted to make a new trait, I would probably take one point off of Flames of the Phoenix, Modern Knight-Errant, and Voice will Resound, respectively, and put those three points into the new trait. The spread would now be 8-8-8-8 instead of 9-9-9.

The other option would be to add to your Knight-Errant trait, the fact that she's an advocate of teamwork.

Hm.
My idea would be 9-8-8-7.... or 9-9-8 -7 , even.

Also, erm, did you edit out the stats i your variant?

Well, I had to adapt it to the current format. Did you switch out the old sheet for the new one yet?

Look for Aurora in the threadmarks. The GM threadmarked my edited version of your sheet.

Our Heroes: Aurora LaSalle De Montfort, the Phoenix Knight
Aurora LaSalle De Montfort/Phoenix Knight , the Final cut...

Name: Asakura Aurora, nee Aurora LaSalle De Montfort, Crimson Crusader Phoenix Aurora, Phoenix Knight
Description:

She is a 16 to 17 year old, willowy and athletic, pale-skinned, Eurasian young lady, who is leggy and relatively small-breasted. Her dark reddish hair is long and braided, and she has reddish brown eyes under arched eyebrows. She has graceful and quick movements, and her voice is sonorous and deeper than expected. She prefers reds and whites in her clothes, as well as a brilliantly colored phoenix tattoo between her breasts.

Her personality is best summarized as "a somewhat cracked idealist, full of desperate hope, holding to her ideals in the face of all adversity". While by now Aurora is very, very aware of the fact that heroes die, that good intent is not enough, that happy endings are not guaranteed, and that betrayal happens (and she can snark about it with the most cynical of people), in the end, she doggedly and with great zeal pursues her ideals of honor, duty and compassion. Something as gauche as "Hero of Justice" would never pass her lips, but that is what she aspires to with all the passion and burning zeal she has.

In her interactions with others, she comes across as a friendly, helpful person, who can and does explode into hot, burning anger at injustice and cruelty. Bitter (and not so bitter) laughter staves off the tears, she has found, and she does act on that when needed. She is not one to easily compromise her ideals, and is militant in defending them. She is also quite willing to cooperate with others, but heaven help traitors, especially after the power gem fiasco.

In school, in her homeworld, she was neither a star pupil nor a slouch, but she did excel in social sciences, language studies and P.E. She was in the fencing club, and became its vice-president. She misses her little cousin Sakura (''best kohai ever'') and her nerdy best friend Momoko badly. On the other hand, if she ever sees her baka cousin again, it will be one time too much...

Bio:
Born to a mixed Eurasian couple (her father was Alexandre Henri Lasalle de Montfort, a French medical doctor and relief worker, her mother Asakura Hinako, a Japanese multilingual translator), Aurora grew up partially on the road and partially in the Lorraine home of her father (actually better described as an estate). The couple had always had problems with her maternal family (her father's branch of the Montforts being near extinct), but other than that, well... she had a happy early childhood.

Her father was a great fan of chivalric romance, and she grew up with the legends of Roland, King Arthur, Godefroy de Bouillion, and Bayard. From them, she learned about the chivalric ideal, and eventually had the burning wish to be like the knights of old, quite unlike the damsels in the tales. Perhaps the illness her mother contracted during charity work in a third world country made her identify more with male role-models like her active and vigorous father, instead of her ailing and three-years-hospitalized mother. Who knows?

After her mother died, her formidable grandmother managed to pressure her father over the course of three years to give her over to the rest of the Asakura Clan, where she has lived for almost four years now. She had remained close to her father, managing to write and mail him constantly...

Until he died this spring, when a clinic he worked in got taken by the Taliban and then forcibly retaken by Coalition forces.

This made her jump at the chance when a magical creature, calling itself a Tsukaime, and appearing in the shape of a speaking white cat going by the name of Yuki, explained to her that she was special, born with the potential to wield magic power. According to it, if she used her magic to fight forces of destruction called the youma, and gather thirteen magical gem-like heartstones from them, she could make a wish, any wish. It would not have taken an ulterior motive like that, truth to be told, but that sealed the deal for her. She accepted it immediately, and set out on the adventurous path of being a modern magical knight-errant.

It also was a weave of half-truths, evasions and omissions with betrayal, plotted from the start.

The Tsukaime (which are similar to the fae, or to the Incubators of PMMM) were actually awakening magical powers, and using the girls' sheer existence as a catalyst of sorts, to mine magical energy from the Earth in the form of heartstones. The youma were actually like antibodies, products of a global ley line network which was blindly lashing out. While the wish was real enough, it would have been moot because the Tsukaime were going to use the same power to unlock Earth's ley lines, which would have had devastating consequences, up to resetting/destroying the entire universe.

Due to an unforeseen series of events partially caused by her "evil twin cousin", Sadako, who had become a Dark Magical Girl calling herself Lady Moon, Aurora liberated a phoenix egg from a crazy magician and collector. The hatched lesser phoenix which became a pet, Aria, hailed from an earlier world, which had fallen to the Tsukaime, and told her of the truth about them as soon as it started to remember...

As a result, the heroine was having none of it. In short, she managed to use her power to stop the Tsukaime and restore her parents, but she almost killed herself in the process.

Fortunately, a mysterious group of magical girls, called the Miracle Wings, stepped in when they passed by and saw her, lying on the ground, nearly dying. They took her aboard their spaceship, the Arbalest, where their magi-tech was able to save her and restore most of her power. When she woke up, they explained themselves, saying that dark forces from all over the multiverse were working together, and that they, the Acheran Empire, needed operatives to help defeat them. They then made the offer for her to join the cause. She was still somewhat wary due to being tricked by the Tsukaima, but remaining an optimist despite all that happened, she accepted the offer.

Especially since she suspects that her near-death, like those of other magical girls, triggered a spell which wiped all traces of her from the minds of mundanes...

She ended up being sent on a mission, to make contact with an allied organization, the Order of the Jeweled Crest, and assist them in their efforts as an emissary of the Acherans.

Traits:
- The Flames of the Phoenix Empower Me (9): This is her main magical trait, which is based around flames, the imagery of the phoenix, and its association with healing/restoration. This also includes flight, fire immunity, the speech of birds, and her phoenix companion, Aria.

- A Modern Knight-Errant (9):
Aurora is well-versed in the practice and theory of the knights of old. As a swordswoman and a rider, she is courteous and elegant as befits a daughter of two noble lines.

She has also picked up some modern-day skills in her spare time, such as motorbiking.

Following her mother's tragic illness, she has become quite a health nut, avoiding the use of drugs, keeping a healthy diet, doing regular exercise, and generally avoiding alcohol, only drinking wine on occasion. This has done wonders for her physical fitness.

She also can summon magical armor, as well as her weapon, an enchanted flamberge. It's a large sword with a golden heft, a ruby-red pommel, and a wavy blade. Its size, however, depends, for it seems to shift from a longsword, to a zweihander, all the way to the size of a Buster Sword. Fortunately, size matters not for her, for she is able to wield all forms of the blade with ease.

- My Voice will Resound from Heaven and be Heard on Earth (8):
Aurora has a marvelous voice that can be used for many purposes. Its volume and beauty are near enchanting levels, and she can use it to soothe or enrage others, like a bard. She is well versed in quite a number of song styles from different genres and cultures.

Her early experience abroad, along with learning from the example of her mother, has made her fluent in Arabic, German, English, Spanish, Swahili, French and Japanese.

- The Binding Code of Knighthood (2): Aurora holds herself as closely to the knightly code as she can. She is not willing to let go of her ideals for personal gain or ease. While this is admirable, this can also be used against her.

Edges:
- Phoenix Down: She can spend an Edge point to revive a fallen ally, restoring their Chi to 1.
- Rebirth Flame: She can spend an Edge point to heal 2 Chi, applied to herself or an ally.
- Call a Friend: She can spend an Edge point to summon Aria into battle. The phoenix is considered an extra combatant, with a Chi value of 3 and a trait value of 7.
- Radiance: She can spend an Edge point to unleash an area-of-effect attack. Her Yang points become able to affect all enemy targets.
-Team player : She can add one success to an ally for an edge point if said ally could conceivable profit from her actions
Chi: 4
Current Edge Score: 0
Edge Cap: 3

@Hoshino Yumemi

I think thats it. Its only slightly modified from @UbeOne 's work, because, frankly he did very good

I toned down the voice a bit and added the Team player edge....

Uh, you may want to remove one Edge, say Radiance, from the sheet. We tend to keep to three or four Edges.

@Hoshino Yumemi - By the way, can I use Traits as buff/debuff without an Edge? For example, let's say I sit down and use Genius to draw up a plan of attack, how would that be reflected mechanically?

That would fall under a project in a prior scend to create a temporary Trait, I feel, like the plan is so carefully considered it's a tactical advantage in its own right.

@Sailor Midgard

If you want, instead of dropping a Trait you could drop your Chi back to 3 and the extra Edge power will be worth a point.

@Sideral

Your weakness needs to be at a 3, not a 4. 4 is the score for anything that falls under none of your traits, weaknesses included.

@UbeOne

You check out.

That would fall under a project in a prior scend to create a temporary Trait, I feel, like the plan is so carefully considered it's a tactical advantage in its own right.

Wouldn't that sort of defeat the purpose, though? Like, sure, it's possible that you might run into an enemy where none of your Traits apply, but other than that, since you don't get a bonus for multiple applicable Traits, you might as well just roll something that probably has an 8 or a 9 attached to it than something you forged off the cuff. Unless it negates Weaknesses?

Yeah, the idea is that it negates Weaknesses and expands options if you ever find yourself scratching your head at a problem. I'm actually kind of unsure myself how that might work, so let's shake this and see what falls out.

@Xalgeon

As a matter of fact, you are. Traits at 5 cost nothing to create; you have two points to spend.
