The Affairs of Ladies: Interdimensional Magical Girl Service [Closed]

The thing about languages is that they evolve as they're used over time. :V

Ok... after some more digging I've got six names for our troublesome Directive:
  1. Nabu
  2. Stilbon
  3. Hermaon (MUDA!MUDA!MUDA! :V)
  4. Hermes
  5. Ermis
  6. Budha
Beware, if I go with #3 the JoJo jokes will be endless. :V

I say go with Babylonian equivalents for their names; they didn't know every planet in the solar system, but they probably had mythological beings that correlated with their namesakes, so if you use those you'll be golden.

Our Heroes: Olive Chaffin, Spectral Reaper and Champion of the Shepherd
Here's my ghost Magical Girl character.
...
Name: Olive Chaffin, aka Spectral Reaper or Champion of the Shepard

Description: In life, Olive had short, light brown hair and blue eyes. However, after taking up some of Death's power in order to fight the Necromancers, her hair turned bone white, and her eyes a blazing red. She was small in life, and that hasn't changed in death, though she insists that she has gotten a bit taller and won't hear anyone say otherwise.

Most of the time, she dresses like a normal thirteen-year-old girl, able to change her outfit at a whim, though she has a preference for lightly-colored clothing. However, when she channels Death's power, she wears a dark cloak and hat (she never liked hoods) and carries a long scythe.

Bio: Olive Chaffin was thirteen when she died. She had been sickly for years, and so a part of her had known that there was a chance she wouldn't make it. It was still a shock when she tried to get out of her hospital bed one day, only to see her parents crying over her lifeless body. Before she could start panicking too much, however, a man in a doctor's outfit entered the room and spoke directly to her.

He introduced himself as Death.

Death was not what Olive had expected: the grim, cloaked figure that had haunted her dreams in her final nights. Instead, he was gentle, friendly even. He agreed readily when she asked if she could have some time before she went with him to… wherever they were going. He followed her as she went to the park where she had played when she was well, to listen to a magic show that had happened to be in town, and several other places she wished she'd had time to go to. He even treated her to her favorite meal, one she hadn't tasted in years. They talked, even laughed some.

Then, with a sad look in his eyes, he asked if he could show Olive something. She agreed: after all he'd been nice enough to go with her wherever she wanted to go. A part of her would later wish that she'd just asked to pass on, because what she saw was… horrible.

Death took her to a necromancer's lair. She saw other ghosts, some who had been younger than her in life, screaming silently as they were enslaved, forced to follow the cruel whims of their master. She asked Death why he didn't do anything about this, and he sadly admitted that he couldn't.

Above all things, Death is fair. Prince or pauper, sinner or saint, all are treated equally before him. Whatever they had done in life, whatever waited for them beyond, as they pass through His realm, they were ghosts like any other. It was not his place to judge crimes or reward virtues. Which meant that he could not stop this necromancer, or those like him.

"But you could."

Death had figured out a loophole in the rules he was bound by: while he could not interfere in the affairs of the living: he could give some of his own power to a strong enough ghost, and they could become his Champion and act in his stead.

Staring at the nightmare before her, Olive could not help but agree: what decent person could see this and not act? And so, she became the Spectral Reaper; Champion of the Shepard, and while others have come afterwards, she will always be the first. Thus, when Death became aware of the Benefactors, it was Olive that he allowed to seek them out.
Traits:

Scythe Master (8): Having fought the necromancers for years, Olive has become quite proficient with her signature weapon. Being a ghost herself, her blows don't naturally do physical damage, instead carving at the very soul of her target. It also represents her ability to fight mentally, especially to resist necromantic control.

Incorporeal (8): Being a ghost has its advantages when it comes to getting around. She can fly, as well as go through purely physical objects (magical barriers can bar her progress, though she can cut through them with her scythe.) Also, turns out that it's kinda useless to use regular weapons against a ghost.

Manifestation (7): Sometimes, Olive needs to interact with the physical world directly. Most ghosts don't have the power to do more than move small objects or cause a sense of unease in living things, but Olive is Death's Champion: she has a much greater ability to influence the physical world than most ghosts.

Ghostly Commune (7): Olive is a ghost, and spends most of her time in the deathly plain. Thus, she can easily communicate with other ghosts, which can give her access to information that others can't get. With some work, she can even convince other ghosts to do favors for her.

Instinctive Fear (Flaw) (2): Death is scary, no matter how much he wishes he wasn't. Having taken on some of his power, Olive will naturally frighten the living when they see her, especially if they weren't expecting it. While this fear can be overcome, and Olive does her best to act non-threatening, there have been cases where people have run, screaming, from the mere sight of her.

Edges:

Soul Feast: Olive's scythe cuts not flesh, but soul. She's learned that, with some focus (and an Edge point), she can absorb the energy of her target. If Olive does damage to something with a soul, she will heal one Chi. She cannot use Soul Feast when using Death's Scythe, as she doesn't have enough of a connection to absorb the fragments of soul.

Crossing the Veil: As she learned to manifest herself more completely in the physical world, Olive got to thinking: could she reverse that for a living person without… you know, killing them. Turns out, she can, though it's hard, and the person she does it for doesn't get all of the advantages. However, for one Edge point, they do get Incorporeal (5) temporarily.

Death's Scythe: In moments of extreme crisis, Olive can call upon a fragment of Death's own weapon. Although lacking the unfathomable power of the full weapon, it is still costly for Olive to use: she loses one Chi to activate along with one Edge point. However, it still grants her an advantage: she gets an extra 2 combat dice for the rest of the battle, even if that takes her over the cap.

Chi: 4/4 (3 + 1)

Edge Score: 0

Edge Cap: 4 (3 + 1)

I welcome any input, but the one I'm most interested in is Death's Scythe: I was trying to make a powerful-but-costly desperation move for when all hell's broken loose, but I'm not sure if I struck the right balance.

Also, is there anything else that I should add?

EDIT: Toned down Death's Scythe a lot.

EDIT2: Added Crossing the Veil and modified stats a little.

EDIT3: Removed Possession for lore/character reasons.

I'm not the DM, but doubling up to your entire dice cap is uh

Really really really big

Really bigger than two edge

Possibly bigger than four or five edge, honestly

Edge is typically translated out to one Dice, yes, but, then again, it's also hurting you.

You could choose between the double damage and the double dice, but the double dice will probably just be cut down to, like, [+2 Attack dice] in any case.

Ho-lee Tostito that is powerful.

Burning a Chi point to earn a bonus two dice for the rest of the scene sounds good, though. With that alteration you oughta be good.

How about adding an edge that uses her intangibility as a ghost?

at the end of any round she uses it, she loses one Chi. However, it still grants her an advantage: she gets an extra 2 dice for combat, even if that takes her over the cap.
I take this to mean that it only lasts for one turn. I think you mean that she loses 1 Chi at the end of a scene/battle?

But don't we re-gen back to 3 at the start of any battle?
They're basically hit points and refresh to 3 at the start of every individual fight scene. (under Edge and Blank Character Sheet tab)

If you think that 2 extra dice isn't worth a damage, I'll just drop that part.
