-[-] Hooded Treats DC50
Rolled: 61+22+2+5 = 90 (Success)
At the end of the day, Hooded Treats was what it presented itself as, a major food chain that was beginning to break into the bed and breakfast business. CEO Nathan Ford of Hooded Treats was a respectable business man and a competitor for Leonardo Goodman. What Nathan was not was a rival for the Warlord of Winchester. The man and his company had no stake in the cape business as it was called and you found nothing untoward in that regard. What your operatives did find was more conventional business secrets such as the recipes used, financial information, login details and other insider information.
Between those various things, you feel more than confident to approach Nathan Ford in regards to arranging a business deal between Goodman Corporation and Hooded Treats. It takes a good few meetings to get the basic agreement in place and then there is still plenty of back and forth to hammer out the details. But in the end, you get there and you got a new deal set up with Hooded Treats.
What deal do Goodman Corporation and Hooded Treats come to?
[] [Deal] Goodman Corporation takes over several administrative tasks that Hooded Treats previously handled in-house.
Gain +1 Profits and gain greater insight to the operations of Hooded Treats.
[] [Deal] Goodman Corporation helps Hooded Treats sort out the paperwork behind their new venture into bed and breakfast.
Gain +1 Profits with potential for more based on how well the new business venture of Hooded Treats does.
[] [Deal] Goodman Corporation will help Hooded Treats research the refinement of their food projects.
Gain +1 Profits with potential for more, but it will lock up an action.
[-] Fortified Your Operations
Upgrade your current security measures so anybody going after you has a harder time of it.
DC: 50. Cost: -1 Profits if successful. Effect: Improved Security.
Rolled: 19+27+25 = 71 (Success)
It quite fortunate that you had Joan around to help out with this as given how busy you ended up being with other things, this particular project would have fallen by the wayside otherwise. As thing were, Joan was able to pick up your slack. To your surprise, your wife proves to be rather familiar with the measures of how to hold off superhuman attacks and other serious assaults. Not so surprisingly, it quickly becomes apparent that experiences comes from being on the other hand as the superhuman trying to get in. As a result, she takes something of a reverse approach where Joan figures out how she would break into the building before than figuring out the best way to stop her chosen method.
It isn't what you would do, but Joan gets the job done nonetheless. Your buildings and security teams are much better prepared to deal with physical threats though more subtle stuff like spies and esoteric methods are outside Joan's wheelhouse.
Gain Organisational Trait Enhanced Security: +10 to Rolls against physical assaults or break-ins.
[-] Found a Healthcare Division.
The NHS is good and all, but why not found your own healthcare division to provide paying customers with quality care?
DC: 50. Cost: -1 Profits if successful. Effect: Increased Profits, Gain a Healthcare Division.
Rolled: 30+25+3 = 58 (Success)
While the NHS is good and all and plenty of charities do good work, it is time for you and Goodman Corporation to begin providing a new source of affordable healthcare. And affordable it will be even if that isn't the most profitable method for you, but you aren't in this business for the profits. You might run a profitable business, but that is a means to an end. So you make sure everything will be compliment with the law, organise the opening of a few clinics, hire some nurses and doctors and begin to advertise your services.
By the time that June is rolling around, you already got plenty of paying customers and are ready for further expansion.
Gain Healthcare Division with no net change to Profits.
[-] Research Improved Purification.
While the world is still a few years away from the point of no return, you are uncomfortable about how close that point is and you dislike what reckless industrialisation and capitalism has done to the planet.
DC: 50. Cost: 0. Effect: Improves Purification Technology.
Rolled: 38+30+10+2 = 80 (Success)
Having refined existing methods of filtering the air, you decide to refine the technology further. While you had previously made existing methods more efficient, you decided to take this a step further this time around. With the researchers of both Goodman Corporation and Wallis Technologies to help you out, you make steady progress. When trying to decide between focusing on increase the work speed of the filters or increasing their effectiveness against harmful elements in the air, you ultimately go with the former with the hope that it will lead to the latter to at least some degree.
And it works. By increasing the speed of the filters and how quickly they work, not only does it increase the overall quality of the air that they provide, but they also do a good job of rapidly dealing with toxic air. Not good enough that you would take the risk without a good reason, but good enough that you would take your chances if there was a situation worth risking your life in.
Gain Enhanced Air Purification II technology.
[-] Spend time with Nasira
In addition to being your righthand woman, Nasira is also your oldest and closest friend. Take some time to hang out with her.
DC: 0. Cost: 0. Effect: Enjoy some time with your best friend.
Rolled: 59 = 59 (Critical Success)
While Nasira is gone for some time, it is only a month and by the beginning of April, she is already done with Moira's task. When she arrives back, you are pleased to find out that it is by plane as a human and not as something else. Especially given that a couple weeks ago, there was a literal white dragon going on a rampage up in Glasgow. According to the news anyway as your own sources that far up north are limited. Given Moira's usage of transformation and White Dragon working for her, you strongly suspected that Nasira was that white dragon.
You could have had someone else pick up Nasira at the airport or just let her handle her own way home, but Nasira is your oldest friend so you go to personally meet her.
"A successful trip?" you inquire as the two of you head back to your car.
"Quite so," replies Nasira with a frown, "Moira was rather hands off with me. She basically gave me a list of targets and told me to take care of them."
"Any idea why?" you ask.
"I cannot be certain, but I strongly suspect she desired someone reliable to throw at the problem to handle it rather than doing it personally," answers Nasira, "She could have easily achieved all of it on her own. That I am certain of unless she has some glaring weakness that we don't know about."
"I'm disinclined to consider ourselves that lucky," you say, "I feel that Moira was more likely to have lacked an interest in doing the deeds herself and basically hired someone else to do them."
"That lines up with what I've seen of her," agrees Nasira as you approach the car, "What is the plan with Moira?"
"How about we talk about that more in the car?" you pretend to suggest, but Nasira accepts it as the order that it is in practice with a nod.
As expected of someone like yourself, your personal car is no ordinary vehicle. Originally something you got second-hand, you have upgraded and replaced it over the years to the point that no part of the original vehicle remains and over that time, you have added plenty of features unavailable to the public. Some of it is armour for protection, another part is limited jump ability, but for now, the relevant part is the security feature that makes conversations inside impossible to hear. The armour already muffles sound from within, but your security system remains that sound whilst enhancing what you can hear from the outside. Very useful for conversations like the one you are able to have.
"Are you going after Moira?" inquires Nasira once the doors are closed.
"Not for revenge, but yes," you answer as you start up the care, "Joan talked me into it actually. Neither of us want revenge for what happened, but Moira is a monster as I'm sure you noticed."
"I have," agrees Nasira with a glower, "She is an inhuman villain who preys upon people. She usually goes for those that have wronged her, but that doesn't mean that those people get what they deserve and sometimes she just goes after someone on a whim or because it amuses her."
"I am glad to see that I don't have to sell you on this," you say, "What happened up there?"
"A dragon wasn't the only thing that Moira turned me into nor was I the only one she transformed while I was up there," answers Nasira, "Even the dragon transformation was her idea even if it was a fun experience. We, that is humans, aren't people to her, we are playthings."
"Want to talk about it?" you inquire.
"No, I do not," says Nasira with a frown, "Well, I will say be careful about what you say about Moira. Even if you are on her good side, that doesn't make you safe even if is probably safer. I made a joke not having any dragon powers and the next thing I know, I ended up spending the next few days as an actual dragon. And when Moira decided to discuss how Joan got on with her punishment, I made the mistake of wondering-ah, I don't particularly need to say how that turned out. You're smart enough to figure out that I got a better understanding of what Joan experienced now right?"
"I am," you confirm, easily grasp what Nasira doesn't want to talk about, "Do you need anything?"
"No, I'm just glad to be back home-actually, have you used that mask yet?" starts Nasira before changing course.
"The Marble Mask?" you reply, "No, I have not."
"Then it is still charged," says Nasira, "If it is acceptable, I would like to use it."
Nasira wants to use the Marble Mask. What is Leo's decision?
[] [Mask] Let Nasira use the Marble Mask.
[] [Mask] Don't let Nasira use the Marble Mask.
[-] Study the Fae Ring
With your newfound knowledge of magic, you fancy taking a look at how your marriage ring works.
DC: 25. Cost: 0. Effect: Greater understanding of the Fae Ring of Enforced Marriage.
Rolled: 76+30+10+20+25 (Cooperative Joan) = 161 (Double Critical Success)
You had the ring for several months now, but it has only been recently that you gained the knowledge needed to understanding it.
Your initial investigation reveals things that you already expected it to do. For starters, it had a connection to the ring worn by Joan and it clearly favoured whoever was wearing yours. Your ring granted its wearer a limited passive ability to influence the wearer of Joan's ring and ensure loyalty from them in the loosest sense.
Of course, that was all passive. For someone with magical ability, the ring allowed for so much more, mainly in the vein of its previous features not having limits. With Joan's consent, you began to test some of the practical applications of your rings using your magical knowledge.
After getting a list of commands that Joan is okay with from your wife, you begin to use the ring to force her to do things against her will. While sort of. You are forcing her to do things using your magic ring, but you got her consent beforehand and are only making her do things she suggested. Actually, Joan is oddly eager to test all this, more so than you are though that isn't much of a high bar.
Still after a couple of days of making Joan do trivial things such as doing some baking or performing certain stunts, it becomes clear that the ring could be used to make Joan do anything and you are left feeling quite glad at how you dealt with Elorshin given he intended to have this sort of power over Joan.
You went onto the next stage of your study, seeing how you could use the ring to influence Joan's mind. With your wife's consent, you make a couple of changes to way she thinks, nothing serious, just changing her favourite colour from purple to pink and giving her a desire to wear dresses when possible.
You have no shame to admit that you put an end to that line of investigation there after reverting the changes. Mind control is terrifying and the ability to just change someone's mind like that is something you want nothing to do with.
Thankfully for you, further investigations quickly reveal that the rings work one way. Lord Elorshin clearly went to a lot of effort to ensure that Joan wouldn't be able to use her ring against him via its connection to his. Unfortunately for the fallen fairy, he didn't consider that someone might just be able to take the ring from him.
Nonetheless, you have gathered a greater understanding of just how the ring works and with that understanding combined your magical knowledge, you got a few ideas on how you could modify your ring and Jona's.
[-] Study Magic
You have plenty of theoretical knowledge about magic thanks to Moira, but you lack practical knowledge nor do you fully understand what you do know.
DC: 25. Cost: 0. Effect: Improve your knowledge of magic.
Rolled 86+30+10+20 = 146 (Double Critical Success)
You got plenty of magical knowledge, but you lack understanding of that knowledge thanks to the nature of how you acquired it. Given how valuable your magical knowledge is, that is something that you need to fix.
Your solution is to spend an hour or two every day to go though what you know and actually making sense of what you know. While Moira didn't give you any knowledge of any spells, she gave you plenty of abstract knowledge and theories behind how magic worked. It wasn't as good as having an actual teacher, but you were an old hand at self-teaching as you rarely had someone else to instruct you when it came to your more exotic and advanced inventions.
In this case, you have done a very good job of it. Despite not knowing any spells, you swiftly figure how you could cast them if you did. You know how magic works and how to use with the only remaining barrier being that you need to either invent some spells to use or acquire a method of learning spells.
Gain Trait Self-Taught Spellcaster: +2 Learning, +5 to Magic Rolls, Able to use Magic,

Sorry about how long this took, I've been distracted by rediscovering an old game at the weekend combined with being busy than usual in RL. Plus I have written a fair bit here.
On the other hand, this standard CK2 format just isn't working out for me. I'm giving options I personally find boring or uninteresting to write to fit the five categories and in general, I don't like having to try and fit stuff into the five categories, especially when they can overlap between them.
As a result, I am going to try a new format for this quest. I will be keeping the CK2 stats, but the action format is going to change. At the moment, I am thinking of trying a system similar to what Divided Loyalties uses as I feel that the picking six actions from a list of actions works better here than picking one or two actions from a category out of five total. Especially since I can just put whatever options I find interesting and fitting for Leo to do rather than what should be put into a specific category. I also feel it will let me have a greater character-focus, something I think would benefit this quest.
Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.
