Suffer Not the Witch (Warhammer 40k Psyker Quest)

[X] Fail. Make it stop, make it stop, please emperor, please mother, please anyone who is listening, anyone, anything, MAKE IT STOP.

What?

This is the normal response to this shit going down.

[X] Euphoria. The crew cabins maintain old audio-players, and the medicare decks some well-preserved opiates. Drown out the screams with music and dance, and should that fail, a little medicinal aid and the pleasures of rotgut booze and good company.

"Actually, we prefer to call it the Whistling Whirlpool nowadays. Our marketing department thinks the old name was a bit off-putting. Any drinks for the gentleman?"

[ ] Purity. Intensive combat training and physical exercise allows Vincenzo to sharpen his focus and narrow his perception, to lose himself in the rasping of lungs and the burn of tired muscles, to make his sword the only thing that matters. An unconventional form of meditation, but effective.
Khorne.

Slaanesh.
[ ] Resolve. Vincenzo has lived in hives, always roaring and rumbling, and has endured torture at the hands of the Inquisition before. His body is strong, his will is stronger, and something like this will not be enough to break him. Grit your teeth, harden your heart and fight, endure, survive.
Nurgle.
[ ] Evolution. Mere deafness will not defeat a psychic cry, but with biomancy Vincenzo might modify the sensitivity of his nerves, or else blend meat and chemicals to deaden the pain and soothe the most injured of minds.
Tzeentch.

Madness-ho!

What's interesting about these option is that although the first four each map fairly obviously onto a chaos god, they tap the more benign/positive sides of their natures. The ones that aren't actively harmful, or that need to be taken to extremes to become so.

We're a duellist, so this seems fitting to me. Plus, as a psyker we're far from prime Khorne bait, so even if this does somehow mark us as a target we're not going to be a particularly tempting one.

[X] Evolution

Let's do our best to fix the problem, rather than ignoring it with will or distraction.

Write in:

[x] Faith: Pray to the God Emperor for his Salvation, that his hand may yet shield you now and guide you to some greater purpose.

I'm feeling real sus about those other options, as either they're ways to fall to one of the chaos gods, or just go full on mad/chaos undivided for the last one.

I figure, if writing in is possible, let's see if devotion to the Emperor helps stave off the issues with fewer side effects.

The vote will not be counted unless it is outside the quote

He hates us... also he is pure evil and his inquisition would have tortured us to death though no fault of our own.

I don't recall Emps hating on us, but we're certainly more conflicted about the inquisition which supposedly does horrific callous things in his name. That wouldn't be to say that one couldn't be devoted to the Emperor or the Imperium despite being at odds with the inquisition. The Soul Drinkers as an example. I could see us taking a similar route.

We are an unsanctioned psyker who helped kill his loyal servants, he hates us and I would rather our PC not be the whipped dog of a cosmic tyrant.

considering the choices seem to match up with the other chaos gods, those paths seem may not lead to anything different. Potentially worse.

Just because you are inclined to a Chaos God does not mean you are going to start singing their praises, everyone has an inclination, up to and including the Grey Knights once they have lived in the world a little after their indoctrination. It is called 'being a sentient being'. By contrast choosing to worship the corpse on Tera even though it and all its servants want you dead is... maladapted to circumstances at best.

Perhaps, though if 40k is anything to go by, even the innocuous choices are just part of the slippery slope. This quest is, as the GM put it after all, a study in how renegade psykers falls to Chaos.
