[Strike Legion Quest] Legionnaire Bravo Headlong into Danger

>"If you wish."

The ship takes a moment, and forms a hologram of a Qutaren with wings, "Considering the name, I thought this'd be fitting!

"We've got a pretty long flight to the target, lots of jumps, but then after, right into the jaws of death! I must admit, I'm pretty nervous. My stealth systems are good but there'll be a lot of enemies!"

>"It'd be fine, we can take them."

Icarus giggles, "I've never worked with a Legionnaire before! I've never been installed in a ship before, granted, but I'v done simulations. Hm... there's a *nice* system where mid-sized Imperial Patrols often show up near our route. Wanna stop by on the way and get some live fire practice in?"

[X] Sure, let's wreck their faces and assorted other bits. Let's just wreck them in general.

>"Sure, let's wreck their faces and assorted other bits. Let's just wreck them in general."

"You got it, partner!"

Icarus's Wrath emergers from it's FTL jump not far from a detachment of Imperial ships.

"Looks like Four Fury Frigates, Two Domination Missile cruisers, and oh, an Overlord Heavy Carrier! That's a big one! Ok, dropping stealth, image multiplier on... they see us!"

Post six maneuvers (just describe any space maneuver you want to try) or attacks you want to try. One of which may be 'fire motion cannon,' you get three 'Laser Lance,' shots which may be allocated between one and three actions, a half-dozen pulse laser shots, and one of which may be 'deploy Combat Frame,' where you get in your Liberator frame and go to work! It has two more Laser Lances, 4 pulse lasers, and a powerful energy sword

(Future note: Indicating what you're shooting is preferable ^^)

Icarus's Wrath comes out of cloak and you immediately fire the Wave Motion cannon at the Overlord Heavy Carrier, and it goes up as the very space it exists in twists into a knot, it's reactors overload, and it and every mobile frame on it is destroyed in a single moment. Wave Motion cannon is now recharging for the next two turns

Your laser lances fire precisely, damaging the shields of one of the Domination cruisers heavily.

Both Domination Missile Cruisers open fire with large volleys of missiles, plus some laser fire from the Furies, but you do a Barrel Roll,

And avoid all their attacks with ease, "Wow, I don't think I could've dodged *all* of those!", getting to their rear and getting Icarus closer to the frigates behind- though not you, as you unlink your Frame's cockpit from ship controls and detach.

You fly onto the Dominator that's taken shield damage and, extending your energy sword, pierce it's hull, creating a large rift in it's armor not far from it's engines.

Meanwhile, the Furies' frames have finally woken up enough to begin deploying.

Six more actions, Frame only. Two Laser Lance shots, four pulse lance, and as many sword attacks as you want, or phasing to avoid projectile fire. Icarus will act on it's own.

[X] Widen the hole with a cross cut.
[X] Fire Laser Lances into hole
[X] Phase out to avoid the counterattack/explosion.
[X] Rush the incoming frames
[X] Phase in to fire Pulse Lances at other frames
[X] Phase out after shots fired.

With another slice, you leave the ship open and vulnerable, and your laser lances pierce it's engines, beginning a chain reaction.

The other Dominion, it seems, hadn't even waited for that, already had launched it's missiles at it's companion. As you phase out, the volley of plasma missiles strike into the dying ship, blowing up any crew trying for escape pods in an attempt to get at you, futilely as you've already phased out.

Meanwhile Icarus's Wraith fires it's lances at one of the Furies, taking down it's shields. "I'll handle these ships!" your partner says.

As the frames from the Furies gather, they attempt to form up and start firing at the Icarus, and alone with the other three furies put out enough fire to hit your Legion Light Strike Cruiser with a lucky beam cannon strike from one of the Paladin frames- absorbed by the shields, but still, one that wouldn't have touch it with you in controls.

You de-phase and your Pulse Laser fire scythes into the Paladins, dropping several of them as your shots unerringly hit the cockpits or other vital components of the inferior Imperial models.

This gets the attention of a lot of Imperial Frames, and a whole swarm of their light Ranger Frames turns towards you and starts trying to shoot you with auto-laser fire, again passing through your phased form.

(Minor GM note: I forgot to mention that aside from your full phase generator I had installed in your Frame, a Liberator also has a lesser phase field that allows it to spend much of it's time partially phased. This means many attacks will just miss/phase through while still allowing attack, but is not a total defense like full phasing, and considering a full volley like that full phasing is a good option)

[X] Close in on the Dominion
[X] Phase in, cut a hole in defenses
[X] Phase out against counterattack, allowing it to hit the Dominion instead.
[X] Move THROUGH the Dominion
[X] Phase in on the other side, or in a suitable internal space.
[X] Sword it if inside, or blast it if outside.

You take stock of the situation- in less time it'd take a non-legionnaire to blink- and decide the Dominion is the biggest threat.

You turn towards it, and fly in that direction. Rangers nearby it try to mass to protect it, but you phase in and slice through three of them with a single blade stroke. The Dominion tries to lock on and fire plasma missiles again, but you phase out in time- and it's much closer this time- and continue to charge inward, entering inside the Dominion.

Phasing out inside the missile ship, you swing your energy blade, cutting through half a dozen decks. Though your first swing doesn't seem to hit anything vital.

Almost pathetically, some of the ship's military crew draws their sidearms and begins blasting at you. "For the Empress's glory!" they yell.

[X] Phase out and head for the bridge.
[X] Phase in to perform a decapitation strike.

Can't think of a full 6 vote this time.

(if you want a Decapitation strike, there's an easier way than phasing!)

Decapitation strike!

Taking your energy sword, you slice in a circle, cutting through hull and energy conduits. The ship breaks in two, not completed destroyed, but definitely decapitated.

Out into space, you see Icarus's Wraith finishing off the third Fury, leaving one left, but a number of Paladin and Ranger frames still trying to mob it, and it's multi-image systems allowing it to avoid a missile fired by the Dominion.

You have three actions left

[X] Pulse Laser the remaining imperial frames

If we still have an action left after this just laser lance the last Fury.

>Pulse laser the remaining frames.

You open fire and take down several more of the remaining frames, targeting the more heavily armed Paladins, and Icarus's own pulse lasers join in, though without the unerring accuracy of your own it still does the job against such low-end foes.

Just when you think you're going to have to take down the Fury too, it seems the big gun has recharged, and you get the pleasure of watching a Wave Motion blast from the outside, space itself ripping apart and shattering the ship.

There's still the Dominion you're floating in, which is not technically dead though it's certainly in bad shape, and a handful of Rangers, but Icarus comms you in, "I think we got everything that mattered. You ready for pickup?"

Laser Lance, then Let's go

You fly out of the bridgeless and confused ship, You turn around and fire your laser lances through the underprotected interior, coring much of what's left, and it's power systems fall silent and secondary explosions rock much of the remains.

Icarus's Wraith flies towards you, peppering the enemy with pulse laser fire at the remaining part of the ship, though the light weapons don't do much to the larger ship from the outside.

A few moments later, you're back in board. Icarus puts the full stealth on, and then initiates the FTL jump.

Victory! Imperial Patrol Fleet defeated!

"Well, first time in real combat for both of us, eh partner? The forces at the final target are gonna be a lot more intense, with multiple times as many ships. I'm not sure if we'll be able to just take out everyone present.... the important thing to do is to get you on-world, and then I can try and hide until you need pickup."

Plans of attack:
-Enter near the edge of the system, then work to sneak past them
-Jump as close to the planet as possible to insert before Imperial forces know what's going on.
-Hit the forces to cause confusion, then go through any openings that appear.
-Other

"That's a tricky one jump coordinate-wise! Should be doable with YOU math scores, though. While you work on the calculations, I'll work on your personal load out."

Select from, well, almost any melee weapon and most ranged sidearms in SF Default is gun-sword weapon and personal shield.

Whatever else we want, we should bring a

[X] Spike Cannon

Why? Because it's an actual Strike Legion weapon, and it's a handheld heavy railgun that shoots drills which are usually poisoned for extra damage.

I'm just putting that out there to help people calibrate their expectations, because 'heavy rail-rifle that shoots poisonous drills' isn't even the crazy stuff in this 'verse.
