[Strike Legion Quest] Legionnaire Bravo Headlong into Danger

That pistol is probably not some sort of cunningly hidden explosive because if it was then she (being a lot squishier than us) would probably feel it a lot more than us.

So, just shoot at the woman with the spike cannon before she lands, it's a lot harder to dodge when you don't have something to bounce off of.

She might have saved a rocket and set it to explode in the barrel.

> Now we phase. She's going to head down a corridor, correct? Launch off a wall when we see her do so, at an angle to end up where she's heading, and then phase through the wall of the elevator shaft to land in front of her. Of course be ready for her to be already attacking when we do.

We have frame-grade shields, just tank it and power through.

And no, we do not phase that quickly. If we try to phase through we'll be giving her yet another large head start again. Phasing is a covert tool, not an overt one. This bitch needs to die.

(Please don't call character's 'bitches' in my thread. Unless they are literally dogs)

>You ignore the pistol- which just boinks off you.

Taking your spike cannon, you fire bursts downward, and she holds her arms up- the spikes first hit her force field, and the first burst is absorbed, but the second manages to breach it and start damaging her Devotion armor- but not completely, as she rolls through the doors as they open.

Bam, you hit the floor an instant latter.

In front of you you see Callisto in a crouching kneel, and halfway down the hall, 5 Fanatics- human cyborgs, not as melee dangerous as a Cyber Wolf or Shiva, not in possession as of good as guns as Imperial Marines, but quite robust, and equipped with scatter lasers. And these ones? They're red, with crystals of the type you saw in that Cyberwolf before, like the one you stuck in your axe, only this time smaller ones, in the middle of their foreheads like third eyes.

Kill the Prophet, for the authorityEmpress!

My apologies.

Sooo, I guess if they're looking at Callisto, charge for her. If they're not and turning to us, tear out of large chunk of the wall (with the assistance of our High Frequency Axe if possible) and throw it at them before charging.

>Look to see where they're looking, then charge!

The fanatics glance at you, then at Callisto.

She begins to order, "Target the Legionnaire, I'll- wait, what?" Callisto gets that look that precogs sometimes do, and then she leaps back as scatter laser fire opens up and stabs where she was, some of the beams damaging her armor respites her attempts to evade due to sheer quantity, and she lands at your feet.

Don't attack the red- so says orders! runs through the head.

>AXE

Callisto gives a rueful smirk, "I didn't see this coming. Betrayed by cyborgs, and then-" AXE.

An Imperial Prophet, one of the most deadly foes of the legion, is dead.

One of the red-eyed Fanatics nods to you and says, "Empresses' will be done."

The thoughts in your head- which are still obviously not yours- say Allies-true servants of the Empress

Yeah, looks like stopping by the Cyberwolf machine shop has paid dividends after all.

Nod back and respond. "May Her glory last eternity."

Alright, once they turn their backs shift to look like one and follow them. We'll use their patrol pattern to scout the place out.

(Since Lagginton has obviously figured it out- The red crystal currently in your axe is the source of the voices in your head, and is making you ping as a friendly to these crystal-cyborgs)

>You nod back and respond, "May Her glory last eternity."

They turn off, and you follow behind them- taking their shape.

They walk through several sections- you see a good number of tech priests (with no crystals in them, you note) and normal working robots. The corridors are also much more freshly constructed, this area was extensively redone. Everyone passing looks very respectful, even proud, you'd say, of the Red Fanatics.

However, rather than going strictly on a patrol root, you sense they're going deeper to the core of this area, likely to report what happened.

Do you-
Follow them to who they're reporting to
Break off to investigate separately

Follow them to who they're reporting to

Well, we don't really know the map of this place outside what we've observed, so we might as well keep following them.

Also remove that crystal from the axe and stick it on top of our head or something when we get the opportunity.

>Follow who they're reporting to.

You move the gem to wedge between your horns- and the voice in your head telling you to listen to the Empress gets louder- and continue to follow.

Ahead, you see a heavily armored door. There's a Fanatic on one side, a Shiva on the other. Neither have crystals in them, though they stand with a tech priest of obviously high rank.

"Our duty is done," says one of the Red Fanatics with you, "A disruptive force to the upgrade has been removed."

The tech priest, obviously one of high authority, nods, "Good, I'm impressed you all made it back, we have so few Truly Loyal-" but then stops, and points, "There were only five of you!"

In retrospect I should've seen this coming.

Oh well, keep at it then. Maybe we can even provoke an AI rebellion considering we have a crystal on us and they don't.

See if you can find a difference in one of the others, and try to convince them that one is the fake.

(Minor note about scatter lasers- like your Plasma Gun, after a full burst they have to cool down)

>"I'm a member of the unit, that one's-" you begin.

"We're unit 3290012," the five say in unison. Ok, that's a no-go. The Shiva's tentacles raise on a defensive posture, and the non-red fanatic raises it's scatter laser.

"You're not the unit we sent out, and there are no more enhanced Fanatics around! ... but you do have a touch of the Empress about you. Explain yourself" the tech priest demands, pointing at you.

"This unit was originally assigned to Level 32, 3rd Quadrant to the Cyberwolf workshop present on that level. After /Unidentified Anomaly/ eliminated Unit /Enhanced Cyberwolf/ Techpriest /Unknown/ made emergency modifications to this unit using salvage from Unit /Enhanced Cyberwolf/. This unit immediately began pursuit of /Unidentified Anomaly/ upon reactivation until the level 129 elevator shaft, where it finally caught up while /Unidentified Anomaly/ was in the middle of combat with Unit /3290012/ and eliminated /Unidentified Anomaly/. Currently awaiting further orders in the name of Her glory."

(Ok, I gotta admit, that was smooth :) )

The Tech Priest considers, "You were activated without your modifier identifying yourself...? And we were right that the heretic disguised as a Prophet was sabotaging us, the loss of Cyber-Wolves to our numbers will cost us dearly... it is a good thing that our enhanced Fanatics were able to resist the fake orders and quash the problem because the Prophet was able to run around and cause any.... doubt among those who may have mistaken her false word.

"Still, your psycho-conditioning must be incomplete if you were rushed into combat so fast, and we'll need to study you, your maker must have left a message... we'll take you to the lab for processing!"

The Shiva relaxes, as does 3290012, lowering it's weapons.

The Tech Priest says, "3290012, serve as guard for the Empress. Shiva-102, Fanatic 424, join me in escorting this unit to the lab."

The Five Red Fanatics take guard by the heavy door, and the other two cyborgs mode to escort you.

Well this might be a bit of a risk, but going to the lab sounds like a surefire way of getting found.

"Order received: Playing back data log 1 *grunt of pain* 'Arrrgh, this is Techpriest Boyfri-ERROR: DATA CORRUPTED-you damn hunk of metal work! Oh good, now it's working. I pray to Her Majesty that whoever is listening to this will believe me. Do not trust the Prophet, I repeat, Do Not Trust The Prophet. She and her marine retinue are all either traitors or infiltrators from the heretic Star Republic. Just half an hour ago we logged a Legionnaire Frame assaulting the complex. The abomination was fortunately defeated thanks to the sacrifice of the SharkWolfBear stationed near the top level, but the traitor took advantage of the situation to impose her authority and try to sabotage us. It was only by the mercy of the Empress that the Enhanced Cyberwolf detected her treachery, unfortunately it was still unfinished so it could not destroy her. I believe that she is heading to the lower levels with her marines as I speak. I repeat Do Not Trust Her. I would try to insert a video log here as proof, but I had to replace the cortex of this unit and my connectors are wrecked. It was only by Her miracle that I've lasted this long.'" *wet cough and wheeze* "Empress above, go, go after her! Log end."

The Tech Priest snaps around at mention of the Republic, "That's not the source of the false believers! It's not one of ours, grab it!"

The Shiva moves to grapple you with it's tentacles, with the fanatic raising it's scatter laser to cover.

Six actions if you use body field, nine if you use ring field

You're a hallway down from the five reds, your immediate foes are a Shiva moving to grab, a Fanatic, and a tech priest.

Ok, it looks like interest has faded, so I'm pulling the plug.

Epilogue-stuff-I-had-planned time!

The Crystals were an alien invader I dubbed 'the Authority.' They were infiltrating the Imperium through the super-soldier program, and at the other on-planet facility you'd discover they were processing citizens in large number- with high casualties, but not quite as high as some of the existing programs. It'd become clear that if the Authority succeeded, and they were likely to because the Imperium was so used to not-questioning and only a few in the Imperial Hierarchy were in any position to notice or of the type to resist before it got out of hand, they'd turn and destroy the more free willed Star Republic, upon whom their tactics wouldn't work because any Star Republic citizen would rapidly tell something was wrong and alert the authorities rather than listening to the voices.

So you'd have to destroy the second facility (I figure using the ship's second frame to travel between them), and with this world out of the equation, you'd go and blow up the Authority (possible with help of Imperials you'd convinced? Or whatever, depends on what life you picked. Swapping lives for variety would've been fun).

Then, likely after that, I'd send you after the Empresses herself or something- because your abilities would be well-proven by that point, and why not?
