Stark Quest 2.0: The Search for Shinies

Since Datakim said he was going to bed, I'll see if I can add Enjou's questions.
Credit goes to @Datakim.

[] Reassure the host that she is safe, but also warn her against doing anything violent.
-[] Assuming she shows no signs of hostility, try to be as kind and gentle as possible. She might be a totally ignorant victim. Still, be ready for anything.

[] Ask her what her name is and where she comes from.
-[] Does she have any family or friends that would miss her? Husband? Children?
-[] Introduce ourself and tell her we came to save our brother from
.
-[] Tell her the current situation, and apologise for not being able to let her go right now. But then point out that its as much for her protection as its ours. If Jorah or Drogo found her, they might react badly.

[] Ask her if she was aware while Tavar was in control of her.

[] Ask her if she understands what happened to her and if she knows what the forsaken are.
-[] Explain the forsaken and their use of hosts if she does not know.

[] Tell her that we have bound Tavar, and that she won't have to worry. We won't give her back to Tavar. She is safe now.

[] Ask her if she would be willing to tell us things she saw while Tavar was controlling her. Apologize for the necessity, but tell her that it could be very important.
-[] Ask how she was captured by Tavar in the first place.
-[] Ask her if she saw Tavar use magic, and whether she understood it and if she is capable of using it herself now.
-[] Ask if she saw anything that she believes it would be important we know?

[] Ask her if she knows how Illyrio knew we were in the city.
-[] Also ask her if she has any information on Drogo.

[] Tell her that we have Dany and Viserys as prisoners too. Ask if she knows what Tavar taught Dany, and how skilled Dany is?
-[] Anything else she knows about Dany that we should be aware of?
--[] Ask her if she knows what Dany's artifacts do.

[] Ask her if she wants or needs anything.

[] In the morning, go out to buy supplies for the blood oath.

Thoughts? Comments?

Why are we rushing speaking to the host? What can she tell us that we need to know now now now.

It's a vastly better use of our time to try to look for Ithroen while keeping the host knocked out. We're just adding a complicating factor that could totally fuck us up if it turns out she's loyal to Tavar. It's not as if she's going to be able to tell her much that would be immediately useful.

On top of that, we might need to give her back to Tavar. Learning about her name and family would make this unnecessarily hard.

She's a potential source of information.

There are riots going on right now. We can't go topside and search while that's going on. Might as well make use of our time.

Yes... she's loyal to the demon that's been using her as a meat puppet and abusing her body.

On top of that, we might need to give her back to Tavar. Learning about her name and family would make this unnecessarily hard.

Yes, because Harlon is the type to willingly ignore moral issues.

She's a potential source of information.

That isn't that important for us to learn now.

Possessing something and using that to spy is a significantly better use of our time.

Yes... she's loyal to the demon that's been using her as a meat puppet and abusing her body.

Why not? It's not as if it would be difficult to arrange.

Yes, because Harlon is the type to willingly ignore moral issues.

Well, quite clearly, yes he is. Hence why he sold the Hightowers to be a demon's slaves for eternity and was going to indiscriminately murder everyone in Illyrio's manse until Jon talked him out of it.

Ok, putting in Datakim's stuff that Fluffiness modified.

[X] You will let Tavar's host awake and question her.
-[X] Remove your disguise. You don't need it anymore.
-[X] You think your failed attack against Illyrio has given you some insight into the Destruction Sequence. While you are waiting for the host to wake up, you will train it a bit.
-[X] You will blindfold, bind, and gag the host as a precaution. You will also wear the cuendillar chain, and Jon will wear his Shardplate. Both of you will put up your defensive sequences. You will also put up Focus and Senses to better perceive any lies. When she wakes, reassure the host that she is safe, but also warn her against doing anything violent, and then remove the restraints when she acknowledges.

-[X] Get some rest, and then start training Possession to Level 3 while you wait for morning.
-[X] In the morning, send out some men to buy supplies. Some others will go out to get an idea of the state of the city and to see if they can find Leyton Hightower.
--[X] Pentoshi clothing, to make the men blend in better.
--[X] The necessary items for a blood oath.
--[X] More Essence of Night, in case you need to keep someone out. Poison too, if the same apothecary has something good.

--[X] Anything the host requested that isn't a security risk.
--[X] Some caged birds, if they can find them. Preferably ordinary ones, like ravens or gulls. Nothing that would stand out.

Reasoning: Talking to the host is something we can do before talking to Dany, and we need to get blood ritual stuff before we can talk to Dany anyways. Train up our Destruction to get our bonus, so we can just make the prisoners faint if needed. Sending someone else out to get supplies, as Harlon walking around with Jon in Shardplate screams "come and get us, Jorah and Drogo".

Anything someone wants to add?

[X] Do not talk to the host, keep her unconscious
[X] Speak to the Hightower men and reassure them that you're going to do everything you can to locate their Lord.
[X] Discreetly do a Blood Magic ritual with Viserys' blood to call down a night bird to possess, and then send it to spy on Drogo's manse.

I don't see a point about making a long and complicated plan that we won't do 99% of. Waking up the host is a pointless risk that doesn't help us deal with the current situation at all. It's a dangerous distraction from our actual problems, and should be tabled until we know what the situation with Ithroen is. If he's easily recoverable we can have him extracted the information from her while she's knocked out without any risk. Either way this simply isn't something that needs to be done in the next few days.

We have a large number of things we need to get done very urgently. We don't need to be taking on more, particularly things that don't help us.

REASONING: We can't talk to Dany yet, so we may as well do something that costs us nothing while waiting. Also, I helped make this vote, so I can't not vote for it.

This, by the way, it the whole problem with this vote. It's treating our time as if it's valueless and there's nothing better we could be doing.

I do not see the point of trying to do a potentially expensive Blood Magic ritual in the hopes of maybe calling a bird so we get a mere 15 minutes of spy time at best (may not even be that, since it'd be our first time trying to find the manse as we've never been there) during a period in which nobody may actually be there - for all we know they're still crawling the city looking for us. I swear you're as obsessed with Blood Magic as the Targaryens are.

The host has potential information on Illyrio (can potentially tell us how Illyrio knew we were here), Drogo (might know something about the Horse Gods business), Tavar (was her meatpuppet), and Daenerys.

I find it exceedingly unlikely she's on Tavar's side - might be a thing when Compulsion comes back, but I doubt that she's too pleased at having no control of her life for months.

This, by the way, it the whole problem with this vote. It's treating our time as if it's valueless and there's nothing better we could be doing.

So while we're waiting for the riots to die down, what would you recommend that's not an untested blood ritual that may not actually benefit us?

And getting info concerning our captives, Tavar, and hopefully Drogo is not at all a waste of time. Knowledge is power, after all.

This, by the way, it the whole problem with this vote. It's treating our time as if it's valueless and there's nothing better we could be doing.

At the end of our interview I have us training Possession 3 - something that will take 7 hours to 2 days with Mind Magic 3. With that, we can scout Drogo's manse for longer, with a single animal.

So while we're waiting for the riots to die down, what would you recommend that's not an untested blood ritual that may not actually benefit us?

Persuading the Hightower guards not to desert, given that we have precisely zero authority over them anymore with Lord Hightower missing.

The Blood ritual could well benefit us significantly.

And getting info concerning our captives, Tavar, and hopefully Drogo is not at all a waste of time. Knowledge is power, after all.

It's very unlikely she knows anything useful about Drogo, as she'll never have met him, and we don't need information about our captives at the moment.

I swear you're as obsessed with Blood Magic as the Targaryens are.

It's more likely to help than anything on your massive list.

The host has potential information on Illyrio (can potentially tell us how Illyrio knew we were here),

Won't, as Tavar knocked herself out before Illyrio was aware of us.

Drogo (might know something about the Horse Gods business),

Never met him, so has no reason to.

Tavar (was her meatpuppet), and Daenerys.

Information that isn't urgent for us to know.

I find it exceedingly unlikely she's on Tavar's side - might be a thing when Compulsion comes back, but I doubt that she's too pleased at having no control of her life for months.

She could easily have been brought up to serve as a host as a religious duty. We really know nothing at all about her background, and can't believe a word she says anyway.

I doubt Illyrio knew he would need a host for Tavar when she was raised, especially not enough hosts so that he could regularly replace them when they broke.

You really need to stop saying we can't question her because "she might like being possessed and robbed of her free will". I mean really?

Persuading the Hightower guards not to desert, given that we have precisely zero authority over them anymore with Lord Hightower missing.

We have no reason to suspect they would desert at this time. Their lord ordered them to obey our orders - that order hasn't ended just because he's been missing for less than 24 hours. We are the authority figure that they are honor bound to follow for the time being, at least until we return to Westeros. We're also giving them orders to help search.

The Blood ritual could well benefit us significantly.

Or it could be a complete waste of time and blood.

It's very unlikely she knows anything useful about Drogo, as she'll never have met him, and we don't need information about our captives at the moment.

Do we know that for sure? Did Illyrio leave Tavar at home for the meeting? Did Illyrio and her meet Drogo in an earlier meeting to discuss the arrangement? Has Tavar not discussed any matters regarding Drogo with Illyrio? Has Tavar not used Observation on Drogo at any point?

It's more likely to help than anything on your massive list.

And you are certain of this because of your vast expertise on Blood Magic and intimate knowledge of everything the host knows?

Won't, as Tavar knocked herself out before Illyrio was aware of us.

We can't be absolutely certain that Illyrio didn't actually know we were here before that. Again, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Information that isn't urgent for us to know.

I don't really agree. We need to get as complete a picture as possible, and she may have pieces of the puzzle we need.

She could easily have been brought up to serve as a host as a religious duty. We really know nothing at all about her background, and can't believe a word she says anyway.

Possible, but I find it highly improbable.

@Mazrick

I've just binge through the quest and let me say that you're quest is awesome.

Also a question. If we phrased the votes to be as charismatic as possible, would it be reflected in the quest itself.

For elaboration, let's take the last couple of votes where everyone want's to squeeze the last possible drop of advantage from any vote. Now my belief is that this is reflected in a Harlon that always want's information under the belief that information is power and PARANOIA!. But this is to the exclusion of all else like the spat with Jon about Danyreas.

Well, quite clearly, yes he is. Hence why he sold the Hightowers to be a demon's slaves for eternity and was going to indiscriminately murder everyone in Illyrio's manse until Jon talked him out of it.
He doesn't ignore the moral issues, not going to speak with Baelor aside, instead he tries to make the decisions that are best for his House first and then the larger world second. Harlon's not amoral, but he's also not Ned.

The Hightowers- They broke guest right, so they got what they deserved as far as Westerosi customs are concerned. And it presented the unique opportunity to learn enough about channeling to save many lives. Also, gives House Stark a competitive edge with potentially skilled channelers and a long term alliance with one of the most powerful beings on the planet.

Slaughter- This is war, and the Targs are the Stark's enemies. Harlon wasn't planning on pulling a Gregor/Lorch. Instead, it would have been the calculated death of those who seek to up end Westeros and consort with a Forsaken(whether knowingly or not).

You'll also note that he confronts these decisions IC and rationalizes them instead of ignoring them. Additionally, you guys serve as his subconscious, so everything that is brought up in thread will have some influence on his character.

Welcome!:D Glad you are enjoying the quest. It's always nice to have a new player. Hopefully, you remain active in the thread. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Also a question. If we phrased the votes to be as charismatic as possible, would it be reflected in the quest itself.
Yes, it'd also help raise your social stats depending on what you're trying to do. Though, long drawn out plans have a tendency to get cut off at the knees due to differing factors.

I think it'd be good to have already talked to the Host before talking to Dany. Having her teacher actually confirm that she was possessed by a demon that was teaching Dany in preparation for possessing her will lend a lot of weight to whatever we have to say.

*Edit* Typos, where a host becomes a hose

BTW does anyone know if Robb has his shard plate. I'm working on a vote and I presumed he had but just to double checked

Modified, modified Enjou vote

Basically I rearranged everything to make sense and be slightly more effective.

There are two major changes and a few notable ones.

First is that I added a rest contingency since we're under a high stress situation and been operating for quite some time under that afore mentioned situation that I don't want us to get to tired and make mistakes with a forsaken on our hands. Note that this is a contingency and thus if we're still fine t won't take affect

Second is in regards for the Host Questioning I made a few important changes. A vote to keep Tavar away from the host, and I've removed the PARANOIA!!!!! parts of the votes while reprhasing everything to make us sound like more of a nice Guy/Hero. Seriously... you're relying on the host hating Tavar or is terrified of Excessive Force Kidnappers when using the Blind and Gag option. And that's unreliable when you consider that if she's really innocent, terrifying her to be truthful is not the way to go since people like these are more willing to lie, speculate, etc just to answer your question than to say I don't know.

Naturally if she's our enemy, neither option would help as far as question goes.

Also in regards to MAH SAFETY keep in mind that doing so can and have set up problems since you're going the extra distance to be SAFE at the cost of something. In this case at the increase risk of not getting good answers. Also with Jon and us having good defenses and actual magic skills to protect us. I highly doubt that there's anything Tavar could do against us on her own, let alone a reduced host

At any rate my vote is meant to have two rounds of questioning. The first is indirect information while being concerned about her health, family, etc while the second is meant to be built up on the answers of the first round of questioning.

======================
[X] You think your failed attack against Illyrio has given you some insight into the Destruction Sequence. While you are waiting for the host to wake up, you will train in it a bit.
-[X] Start training Possession to Level 3 while you wait for morning after talking to the host, etc
--[X] If we're tired enough to have it affect our performance, rest for a while. Delaying our plans is preferable to making a mistake at this stage
-[X] Remove your disguise. You don't need it anymore.

[X] You will let Tavar's host wake up to question her.
-[X] As a precaution you will wear the cuendillar chain, and Jon will wear his Shardplate and be behind(as in if the host faces East Jon's on the west side of the room) the host. Both of you will put up your defensive sequences. You will also put up Focus and Senses to better perceive any lies. When she wakes, reassure the host that she is safe, but also warn her against doing anything violent, and then remove the restraints when she acknowledges.
--[X] Keep Tavar somewhere secure and not near her host while we're talking to the host, if at all possible.
--[X] Assuming she shows no signs of hostility, try to be as kind and gentle as possible. She might be a totally ignorant victim. Still, be ready for anything.

[X] Introduce ourselves and tell her we came to save our brother from Viserys. Quite frankly that is literally the only reason but things escalate since most people are equally good. Go talk to her about the below sympathetically. EG: It must have been so terrifying to not have control, freedom, the knowledge that there's a chance that this month, this week, this day and hour may be her last.
-[X] Tell her the current situation, and apologize for not being able to let her go right now. But then point out that its as much for her protection as its ours. If Jorah or Drogo found her, they might react badly. Really badly. Especially since Tavar was instrumental in Illyrio's plans and that they may recognize her and force her to tell them your location among potentially other things.
-[X]what her name is and where she comes from.
-[X] Does she have any family or friends that would miss her? Husband? Children?
-[X] Ask her if she understands what happened to her and if she knows what the forsaken are.
--[X] Explain the forsaken and their use of hosts if she does not know.
-[X] Tell her that we have bound Tavar, and that she won't have to worry. We won't give her back to Tavar. She is safe now.
-[X] Ask how she was captured for Tavar in the first place.

[X] Our introduction done begin questioning, Be serious where earlier we were sympathetic
-[X] Ask her if she saw Tavar use magic, and whether she understood it and if she is capable of using it herself now.
-[X] Ask her if she was aware while Tavar was in control of her.
--[X] If she is ask her the following
---[X] Ask her if she would be willing to tell us things she saw while Tavar was controlling her. Apologize for the necessity, but tell her that it could be very important.

[X] In the morning, send out some men to buy supplies. Some others will go out to get an idea of the state of the city and to see if they can find Leyton Hightower.
-[X] Pentoshi clothing, to make the men blend in better.
-[X] The necessary items for a blood oath.
-[X] More Essence of Night, in case you need to keep someone out. Poison too, if the same apothecary has something good.
-[X] Some books to keep any prisoners you keep awake and unbound entertained.
-[X] A decent cyvasse set.
-[X] Some decent food and wine.
-[X] Anything the host requested that isn't a security risk.
-[X] Some caged birds, if they can find them. Preferably ordinary ones, like ravens or gulls. Nothing that would stand out.
