STAR WARS: Ashes of the Empire V

"The Empire has been constructing a second battle station - a second Death Star over Endor which has been destroyed. The Emperor and this weapon of pure terror and destruction are no more. But this victory is not the end of the Empire, for there are many more battles to come. I ask you all to join us, break the chains which bound us to the evil we have endured for far too long. With us united, we can defeat the Empire and restore the Republic, we must fight for our freedom and future."

The transmission cuts off into the Imperial seal, but the message was already clear. Rougrer stared blankly into the wall of his office. By his side, his faithful companion and subordinate officer from the days of the 8th Sun Guard Regiment, Canchall Olkin.

"Sir?" Olkin tries to route his senior officer from his stupor. He doesn't notice, too busy running calculations in his head as he digests the sheer weight of the words broadcasted to the entire galaxy.

Palpatine is dead. The Emperor is dead. The leader of the entire galaxy is dead. His hands silently reach under his office desk and opened a cabinet. In it, a transmitter for his use only. Taking it out he brought it up and spoke with an unsettling amount of clarity.

"Confirm. Now."

He waited for his contact at Endor to pick up. Twelve seconds past. Then twenty four. Forty eight. By the time over three minutes had past Selhec had already got up from his chair and was walking out the door with Olkin in tow, screaming orders.

"Get the personnel files for every major imperial officer in the nearby sectors and bring it to the war room! Gather the senior officers and tell them to meet me there!"

Olkin, ever the dutiful second, did not question his orders. He needed to start a briefing. The Emperor is dead. The throne is empty. The politicking and scheming of the Imperial Military had always been it's greatest weakness…and now a power vacuum has just exploded open. Selhec knows what that means. Traitors. Opportunists. All while at war with an enemy who just achieved a grand moral and military victory.

The New Order is about to explode from the inside out.

He needs to know who can be trusted. Who will stand and fight. If Order is to prevail…then ground must be held and taken.

The South Will Hold.

Coronet City

---
Tycho leaned out over the balcony and let the cigarra smoke waft up into the night sky. It was something of an indulgence on his part, the havao tabac hand rolled into little paper cylinders, each one stamped with a little crest he'd made for himself when he was nine, but a necessary one at times like this. Noise leaked out of his office even at this distance, even with the sound dampeners, and in light of everything, Tycho simply didn't want to deal with it. Instead he took a drag of the cigarra, held the smoke in his lungs for maybe a second too long, and then blew it out back with a cough and a wheeze.

"Oooh, that was almost really cool looking."

Wandering out onto the night air, Asta flashed Tycho a toothy smile. He barely spared him a second, a quick once over of the man he'd admittedly become rather attracted to, before turning his attention back down onto Coronet City. There were nights when his husband would have every ounce of his attention but it wasn't this night.

Letting the cigarra sit between two fingers, Tycho leaned onto the balcony. Eyes scanning the world around him, he took in the picturesque view, that night time image of Coronet City at peace. Spires that pierced the sky, the bay onto which the city jutted, the flashing lights and the busy lines of airspeeders that persisted well into the dead of night. It was the kind of view that reminded him of just why it was that he came back here, why Corellia was still home in spite of everything that happened. The Jewel of Corellia.

"Honeybun..." Asta sidled a little closer to Tycho, with just enough hesitance to almost make him believe that it was genuine. "My big, strong, dire-cat... my indomitable jaggalor, my-"

Tycho sighed and tapped the balcony next to him. "Skip the petname hunt and come here," he told him. "You're not from Corellia are you? I mean, I know you're not but... Just come here." He waited for Asta to come next to him before taking his hand in his. "Do you have anything like this where you're from? A Coronet City of your own?"

"I'm sorry but that's classified information."

"You know full well it's not." Using the grip on Asta's hand as leverage, Tycho pulled him in closer until they were standing shoulder to shoulder. Bringing an arm around him, he held him close and took one last drag of his cigarra before flicking it off the balcony with his other hand. "I know you're out here to deliver bad news but for just a moment, I'd like to pretend this is the kind of marriage where we get moments like this."

Seemingly caught off guard, Asta chose to indulge him, leaning his weight into Tycho and following his gaze out into the city. "You should enjoy the moment then," he told him. "There may not be many more of them in the future."

"What do you-"

Tycho flinched as something exploded in the far distance, flares shot up into the night, and the usual bustle of night time Coronet City was replaced with something a little more frantic. His eyes narrowed, widened, and then narrowed again as he looked down to an admittedly sheepish looking Asta.

"So do you remember how Wedge Antilles was at Endor? Along with the Emperor aboard the Death Star?"

"Please..."

"Well, one of your least favourite Corellians may have fired a shot that blew said Death Star up while the Emperor was still on it... thanks to Han Solo bringing down the shield generators... according to a plan devised by Crix Madine..."

There was a lengthy pause as Tycho processed the information and then-

"Ah."

"If it helps soften the blow, I was very touched a moment ago. It was very sweet, super charming, I might have even fallen in love with you right then and there."

Fishing out another cigarra from the tin he kept in his breast pocket, Tycho shakily held it to his lips. "I need a moment to process this," he mumbled as Asta quickly took his lighter and lit the cigarra for him. "This is... a lot."

"Sure." Asta stopped himself and then grabbed Tycho and guided him away from the balcony. "We'll process it indoors though, hmm? Away from ledges?"

"Yeah... Yeah we'll do that."

While my instinct right now is to scream into the void, I'm going to resist the urge for the sake of the EMPIRE.

I am requesting reinforcements for GRAND ADMIRAL LIRA SERENON and for the remainder of DEATH SQUADRON to be transferred to her control pending their arrival in the CORE. It is certain that the REBELLION will attempt to seize on this- *the holo gesticulates wildly at everything* -and I fear that they will drive on the Core believing us weak in this moment.

As such CORELLIA will be a prime target as one of the premiere shipyards in the Galaxy and the CORE and a vital waystation on the way to IMPERIAL CENTRE. I wish to give the GRAND ADMIRAL the tools necessary to not only stop the REBELS in their tracks but to launch a counter-offensive once she has done so.

Additionally, GRAND VIZIER, though the hour is early, I believe it important for the health of the EMPIRE that 1) the EMPEROR'S death be independently confirmed and 2) if it is confirmed that we determine what he intended for us to do in case of such an eventuality.

Though our grief may be as vast as the Galaxy itself, we cannot allow it to blind us from our duty and stop us from preserving the greatest of the EMPEROR'S works: the EMPIRE itself.

I am sure I do not need to convey to you the enormity of what has just occurred. While you are obviously answerable only to the EMPEROR himself, I would request that you maintain your presence in the SOUTHERN CORE in case of a REBEL attack. I have additionally made the request to the GRAND VIZIER that you be provided with additional reinforcements in light of the situation.

As it is the most direct line to ENDOR, I would recommend focusing your efforts at KELADA for the time being at least until we know what their plans are.

I should also note that I have requested that the remains of DEATH SQUADRON be transferred to your command also. As I am sure that it is a given, I would recommend that you send ships to intercept them before they arrive at KUAT and take the initiative to transfer them immediately. Dockspace at CORELLIA will be set aside to oversee repairs to their ships and I am sure you will be able to manage any necessary crew transfers.

INFO: Executor-Class Star Dreadnoughts
EXECUTOR-CLASS STAR DREADNOUGHTS
Status as of one Galactic Standard Day after Battle of Endor
  • Executor
    • Namesake and first of the class, entered service shortly after the Battle of Yavin. Became the flagship of Lord Vader and Death Squadron, forming the nucleus of the Empire's efforts to hunt down Luke Skywalker and the rest of Alliance Command, most notable its efforts at the Battle of Hoth. Destroyed at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY.
  • Eclipse
    • Second of the class and the personal flagship of Emperor Palpatine. Entered service in 1 ABY and put under the command of Admiral Calren Deviroc. The Eclipse serves primarily within Oversector Shadow Hand as personal escort of the Emperor when traveling between Imperial Center and the paradise world of Byss. Is command vessel of elite formation codenamed Shadow Squadron. Currently in orbit of Byss.
  • Guardian
    • Third of the class, entering service in 1 ABY with the designation as command ship for the fleet in orbit of Imperial Center. Under the command of Grand Moff Javel Takel, with delegation reserved for Admiral Timbes Aaronson during times the Grand Moff is indisposed with work on the surface. Currently in orbit of Imperial Center.
  • Finality
    • Fourth of the class, commissioned in late 2 ABY. Under the command of Grand Admiral Keldor Tragen Maddox, its purpose is to act as the command ship of the fleet in orbit of Anaxes, acting as the primary defenders of the core worlds from possible assault. Currently in orbit of Anaxes.
  • Shadowsun
    • Fifth of the class, commissioned in late 2 ABY. Under the command of Grand Admiral Iaxis Solaris who oversees protection of both the Fondor Shipyards and Oversector Twenty. Noted that additional prison quarters are present on the vessel, able to hold many more individuals than her sisters within the class, most rumored to be torture chambers for the Grand Admiral's amusement of those incarcerated. Currently in orbit of Fondor.
  • Ideogram
    • Sixth of the class, commissioned in early 3 ABY. Under the command of Grand Admiral Zzavian Slyce Baobab who oversees Imperial research and development programs of various fields. Heavy modifications were made to the Ideogram by order of the Grand Admiral, allowing much larger laboratories, warehousing containing top-secret items of import to the Empire and cordoned off areas for testing whatever the Grand Admiral and the research teams on board have conjured. Currently in orbit of Gree.
  • Aegis
    • Seventh of the class, commissioned in early 3 ABY. Under the command of Grand Moff Manko Gaul of Oversector Sixteen. Personally offered the vessel by close confidant and friend Grand Vizier Sate Pestage, as both a token of loyalty to the Empire and deployment of an Executor-class to a troubled part of Imperial space. Currently in orbit of Allanteen.
  • Hades
    • Eighth of the class, commissioned in mid 3 ABY. Under the command of Grand Moff Val Dellian of Oversector Three. Originally named Intimidator, was changed to its current name Hades once under the command of the Grand Moff. Although seen as redundant in its position in proximity to Imperial Center alongside two of its sisters, it is another testament of Imperial priority of defense of the capital and lanes that lead to it, the Hades being the furthest out of the three which would expect first contact with any enemy. Currently in orbit of Brentaal.
  • Reaper
    • Nineth of the class, under construction at Kuat with expectation of completion by early 5 ABY. Earmarked for assignment as flagship to the already powerful Scourge Squadron under Grand Moff Sett Varian. It is expected to be vital to not only defending the northern reaches of Imperial space, but also act as the spearhead of any potential offensives to drive out Rebel pockets of occupation or resistance.
  • Annihilator
    • Tenth and final ordered vessel of the class, under construction at Corellia with expectation of completion by mid 5 ABY. Earmarked for assignment as flagship of the Kuat Defense Fleet under Grand Moff Dromus Karr. Seen by some as a redundancy as the Kuat Defense Fleet is already an impressive formation, it was the decree of the Emperor to make it so under no circumstances would any attempt to assault the most vital and massive shipyards not only in the Empire but that of the galaxy would be tried. There are grumblings within Corellian Engineering Company, while although given millions of credits to construct the Annihilator, resent having it deployed to protect their rivals at Kuat.

Rothana
4 ABY

As had been expected and hoped for, the day had been quite good.

He had gone through various reports throughout the day, signing what needed to be signed, with nothing urgent coming up. His meeting with Rothana Heavy Engineering, with a representative from KDY itself, went well enough. There were some worries and grumblings from the RHE representative about a lack of recent notable contracts as of late, which was understandable. These days, much of what was being produced here was of vehicles, weaponry, and ships developed by others, including their parent company.

Long were the days that Rothana developed and churned out Acclamators, AT-TEs, and LAAT Gunships. And although a few newer developments kept things afloat such as the MAAT Gunship, Randell could still tell that the RHE CEO was eager to hear of any good news.

Unfortunately, it wasn't his choice on whether any larger contracts could be sent RHE's way. He resolved to send out some feelers, perhaps to any officials or sectors that may be interested in parts for older equipment that RHE originally produced, or maybe even for a few new Acclamators. Those still saw some level of use after all.

Besides that though, the rest of the day was calm and good for him, with him managing to wrap things up at the Office and return to his home, getting to see his Wife and youngest son. After sending out a holo-call to their oldest son, currently a naval captain in service of the Empire, they got ready for dinner.

He wished that they could do the same with his daughter, but she was still reported MIA... quite possibly dead, maybe alive. He of course hoped for the later. Even if it turned out she was a prisoner or a defector... he loved her all the same, and just wanted her to be safe and alright.

Just as they finished dinner, his holo-receiver started letting out a shrill beeping that caused him to freeze.

He had set it on a "Do Not Disturb" Mode to block any low-priority or necessity transmissions and requests, which meant that if something was getting through it was severe enough.

Sending a quick appologetic look to his wife and son, he brought it out. Turning it on revealed one of his aides, looking a mixture of panicked and grim. Not good.

"Sir! I apologize for the interuption, but a transmission across the entire Holonet has been sent out that you need to see." He says, and without giving him a chance to respond the message is played through.

Randell, with his family in the background, watches and listens as the transmission plays out, his mind freezing as the Rebel Princess herself speaks.

Eventually the transmission ends, and the aide appears once again. "All Imperial Controls have been overwritten, and this message played on a loop before control was reestablished just a minute ago."

"But not soon enough, I imagine anyone with a holo-receiver got this message?" He asks, getting a nod from the aide.

"Prepare for my arrival at the Capital. Set alert conditions to Besh-3, Sector-wide. Recall all leave and instate the curfew recommended for Besh-3." He says, ignoring the salute from the aide as he turns off the receiver, already getting up as he looks to the others.

"I'm sorry, but I must leave. Best get your things ready Damin, non-military traffic will likely be limited over the next few days, so its best you get to the Shipyards before you end up having to spend hours going through customs and inspections." He says, his son nodding and rushing off as his Wife approaches him.

"Randell, if the Emperor is dead, does this mean...?" She trails off, with him knowing what she was referring to. After all, he wasn't the only one that had his doubts about some of what the Empire had committed.

"I don't know dear, but possibly. It may very well be time to make some difficult choices." He says, his mind racing.

With the amount of formal and suspected rebel activity and controlled or supporting systems in the South of the Galaxy, Rothana and the southeastern part of the Galaxy's connection to the Empire may very well be severed soon, or left terribly weakened.

And when that happens, he'll be ready.

Sir,

13th Sector Army is being deployed to forward positions. Estimate full deployment achievable within 24hrs of reception. 13th SA at Level Five Alert Status, implementing anti-insurgency operations along all major transit routes. Attached fleet under my command is moving to combat positions in orbit around Denon.

I anticipate Rebel Alliance offensives beginning within the next ONE to THREE standard weeks. Denon is designated an Imperial Fortress World, and is heavily defended, but cannot be expected to last indefinitely against a dedicated Alliance assault on the system. Currently, my task group lacks sufficient naval assets to decisively engage large enemy forces. Information regarding Alliance preparations is lacking in detail, besides intelligence reports of Rebel Fleets massing near Sullust. I must therefore plan for the worst-case scenario.

As such, I make two official requests: Firstly, any available naval assets be directed to my command as soon as possible, and system armies from Ailon and Danteel be deployed to reinforce my garrison units. Secondly, that the order to forgo any offensive operations be amended to allow me to deploy Recon-In-Force against possible Alliance staging grounds along the southern Hydian Way. I cannot defend the system if I do not know what is coming.

Your Excellency,

The 13th Sector Army is currently guarding the approach of the Hydian Way and Corellian Run towards the Core Worlds. My forces are primarily deployed around the Fortress World of Denon. As Denon is the main impediment to a Rebel Alliance advance deeper towards the Core along these Hyperlanes, I consider it likely this will be one of the first systems to fall under attack when the Rebels begin their advance. Reports previous to events at Endor showed Rebel Alliance fleets massing near Sullust, and I believe a serious offensive may develop from that axis.

As such, I am requesting additional forces be assigned to my command, intended for forward deployment to blunt or halt any Alliance attack. Currently the 13th SA is deploying to positions in preparation for such offensive, but my command lacks sufficient naval assets to deny the enemy Orbital Superiority. System armies from Danteel and Ailon would also prove useful to reinforcing local garrisons.

I am confident with further reinforcements, attacks by Rebel fleets could be delayed or turned back until such time as current orders are overridden and a counter-attack can be launched.

Your Excellency,

With previous reports of Rebel Fleets massing near Sullust, I consider our sector of space a likely target for an Alliance Offensive. With the Shipyards at Allanteen a strategic target, and Denon standing between any Rebel advance and the Core Worlds, I have little doubt that an offensive will develop along this axis in the coming weeks.

I am currently working to deploy the 13th Army and associated units to forward positions in preparation for a Rebel assault. The defenses around Denon are formidable, but will not last indefinitely against a dedicated attack fleet. I have already placed requests for reinforcements to my direct commanding officer and the Grand Moff of Oversector 2, but with our proximity to each other I believe we would do well to cooperate against the possibility of being overrun from the south.

As such, I am requesting permission to station a detachment of the 13th Sector Army on Allanteen to assist in the defense of the shipyards. In addition, I request any naval assets you can spare be placed under my command to assist in planned operations around Denon.

Serenno, 10 Hours after the death of the Emperor

The shouting in the conference room had started not long after her assembled officers had received the confirmation of the Emperor's death at Endor.

They loved to shout, these inadequate officers. But they wasted their breath. A good commander used precision and directness to use their voice to convey intent, not blubber like a screaming child, as so many of these younger officers seemed eager to do.

"We should evacuate this mudhole and pull back to the Core at once! Imperial Center needs to be defended!" A Colonel not even out of his twenties practically squeaked. Pravenne imagined he found himself very impressive.

"We should wait to receive orders from High Command! Have you forgotten the oath you took to your Emperor?" An older officer - one of Pravenne's colleagues from just after the Clone Wars - growled back dismissively at the young man across the table.

And there was living proof that age ensured no particular wisdom. High Command was bouncing around like a pack of headless tooka cats, not concerning themselves with the deployment of a forgotten garrison like Serenno.

The shouting went on for a few minutes more, but it was much the same - military bravado masking sheer kriffing panic.

The more sensible ones remained seated, occasionally sending a glance in the General direction.

This was why she'd made it as far as she had. Panic could wait. Her command needed direction, here and now.

Stood beside her at the end of the Conference table, K4 sent Pravenne a wordless look.

Right, she probably had given the fools long enough to wear their throats out.

Suddenly, she slammed her hand into the metal of the conference table, and all eyes were once again on her.

"As of this moment, all of the troops under my command are being recalled to barracks, in anticipation of redeployment. All leave is cancelled and the book club will have to be delayed indefinitely." She bluntly instructed, her expression guarded as she looked over to a lesser ranked officer stood in the corner. "Captain Verreya, Bulwark Company are to enact Contingency 17."

The young infantry officer nodded silently, unable to hide the spark of eagerness that lit up in her eyes as she left to enact the order.

Bulwark Company were Pravenne's old guard- veterans who remembered what a real battle was. In an emergency, and this certainly qualified, they were to be distributed among her troops - hopefully to stiffen them up, but certainly to ensure no one got any sudden ideas of defection or retreat. They were also moving to key points in the system administered by other branches of the Empire to provide a reminder that as of today, the Army owned this kriffing system.

Pravenne had been given little to work with but she was going to put every scrap to good use.

The Core and the Navy and the Grand Moffs had forgotten about her, forgotten about the Army.

But no matter who won this war, she was going to make sure that no one forgot this Army.

Dismissing most of her officers soon after and telling them to expect orders soon, she got to work with the soldiers she knew to be reliable - including K4, of course, as they quickly began to assemble a plan of action, and General Pravenne assembled a list of calls she had to make.

All the while, she felt the wave of emotion - her true reaction to the sudden, shocking events - rolling like a storm within her, but she showed no sign of it - not yet.

She didn't let herself start laughing, long and hard, until she'd sealed herself into her quarters, four hours later.

Grand Moff Septina was already ordering the Oversector be placed under martial law when he received the transmissions from Coruscant. He was caught somewhat flatfooted. The nicely plotted out career was suddenly thrown askew by the Emperor's Death. The news was devastating to be sure. It was also disconcerting.

If Death Squadron suffered such significant losses to the rebels, including the destruction of a SSD, then it meant the rebels had more conventional forces to bear than previously suspected. That was a serious concern. It meant they didn't have to just contend with long fighter squads anymore, but entire battle groups. The rebels always seemed to bounce back from every loss, a most unfortunate development indeed.

Though that was what the military thrived at. Septina was confident that the rebels would bite off more than they could chew once they crawled out of their hidey holes in the Outer Rim to face off against the Empire in a straight up fight. Sufficient application of violence coupled with a strict well administered occupation would be the solution to the rebel problem, he was sure of it. Order needed to be kept, lest the Empire begin to fray without the Emperor to keep its more rambunctious officers in line.

Then there was the broadcast from the self proclaimed 'Witch-Queen' Ala. He had no interest serving the deranged woman, whomever she was. He privately hoped that it wasn't a sign of things to come…

Grand Vizier Pestage, @Julius

It is most unfortunate to hear that the Rebels were not lying about the Emperor's death. These are trying times for the Empire.

I will take all measures necessary to ensure the continued security and stability of Oversector 10. However, I can not currently comply with the request to cease anti-rebel activity as my forces were already engaged on a prior mission to suppress the rebels on Mandalore when I received your transmissions.

With my full approval, Admiral Chinelo launched Operation: Hound Breaker to pacify Mandalore and place it under permanent occupation. The operation was launched well before the Battle of Endor took place. It is on track to complete next year, by then I fear other matters may demand my attention. That is a security risk I don't believe we should take. Therefore, in order to end the operation swiftly I request additional forces be transferred to my command.

I must remind you that Mandalore possesses extensive shipyards for a Mid Rim world. If I were to order Admiral Chinelo to withdraw from the planet, rebels could very well gain control over the facilities. While if the Empire were to be in control of the shipyards, I would be able to support effective thrusts into rebel territory by using it as a staging point.

I trust you to see reason.

Grand Admiral Ishin-Il-Raz, @Julius

I wish to offer my deepest condolences in the wake of the news from Endor. The death of the Emperor has devastated us all, I'm sure. We must all take our time to grieve, but I'm afraid our enemies will not give us long. It is in these trying times that the Empire requires strength and unity in action and purpose among its leadership. That is why I'm writing to you directly. I am a true believer in COMPNOR as an ideology and institution. It is a political organization unrivaled in size, influence, and ability across the whole galaxy, unmatched by anything else before or since.

It must remain a guiding light for the Empire. The Empire needs men like us now more than ever to lead it through this turbulent period of time. COMPNOR is in a unique position to provide that stability and political cohesion by expanding its membership into other Imperial institutions. COMPNOR membership steadily increased across Oversector 10 under my guidance as Grand Moff. It's a model that other Oversectors should follow.

I hope that we can cooperate to ensure COMPNOR continues to maintain a vital role in the Empire going forward. It's what the Emperor would have wanted. I await your response, Grand Admiral Ishin-Il-Raz.

This is a priority communication.

I have received a most concerning transmission that was broadcasted across Oversectors Nine, Ten, Eleven, and Outer from an individual identifying as 'Ala'el the Bloody Handed.' I've forwarded a copy of it to your office. She appears to be an unencountered witch that escaped the notice of the Inquisitors, who claims to have served the Emperor although I can find no records of her in my databanks. I suspect that she's a mad dog that slipped her leash.

Whatever the case, it's clear she holds no loyalty to the Empire, so she will be treated as an exceptionally dangerous rebel. I will devote assets to track down the source of her broad. I'm officially requesting ISB's support in this endeavor. It's unwise to allow a person like her to run around. She should be put down posthaste.

I await your response, Director.

Long Live the Empire
Long Live the New Order

Grand Moff Septina.

HEAVY IS THE HEAD
- Yuli Manor, Allanteen VI -

Along the Corellian Run and a terminus for the Shipwrights' Trace sat a planet, an intersection of commerce and fabrication, home to shipyards of only moderate renown. It was known as Allanteen VI, and it was inadequate as a seat for a man as prideful as Prince Manko Gaul, Grand Moff of Oversector Sixteen. For all its strategic value, for all its hundreds of billions of residents, it had seemingly failed in every measure to erect for itself a culture worthy of remembrance. It was truly emblematic of the history of the Expansion Region's settlement - that of course being corporate settlement and a decidedly artificial construction of Human culture along the Slice. And while the Empire tried as it might to instill worth into the Slice and its colonial progeny, it still remained a failed venture.

Such thoughts, Manko Gaul could not resist thinking when confronted with the realities of his new home. Yuli Manor was but one symptom of this systemic failure, but one that Gaul could never avoid. The building was horribly wrought in New Style Grizzmallti, a derivative form more employed by Inner Rim vulgarians than anyone with proper idea of architectural design. Even its name was a crude attempt to convey history - it had been constructed no more than twelve years ago, with the Yuli namesake being the construction company. By all rights, the residence so graciously afforded to Manko Gaul could have just as easily been named the Allanteen Construction and Assembly Estate and still retained the same amount of rustic charm.

"Your Serene Highness."

Gaul turned from his thoughts and towards the interloper. At least, he thought, the servants had at last remembered his proper address.

"My apologies, but your transport has arrived."

With a light wave, Gaul dismissed the man and steeled himself. Visits to the shipyards were a loathsome affair, made all the worse by Administrator Geen's insistence that Gaul oversee theatrics among the enslaved worker force. Look how they march, mewed Geen, look at their efficiency, as if Gaul hadn't witnessed it half a dozen times prior. Seeing an entire assembly line of slaves working away in foundries and shipyards made Gaul uneasy. There was something about their slumped stances, lifeless eyes, their strange indifference that reminded him of his own duties.

How was it, he thought, that his life was more burdensome than that of a slave?

But as Gaul departed Yuli Manor and boarded his vessel for the Allanteen shipyards, he figured an answer. Truly, the weight of the crown is heavier than that of the shackle. While the slave could work away, surviving day to day and caring little else but for the next meal, it befell the men in command to shoulder the wellbeing of the collective. When a slave missed a quota, he hurt himself, if only for a day. But for men of importance and station, their failures brought suffering to his family, to his people, to his realm. It was hardly a fair arrangement, but that was the obligation of the nobility - to govern those beneath them for the betterment of the galaxy. The New Order had been not truly new at all, but a recitation of the laws that had always governed man. The Empire was simply its extension on a galactic level.

His thoughts now of a greater clarity, Prince Gaul spoke at last, leaning in towards one of the few beings allowed in his personal transport.

"Khuen," he commanded, "ensure my communications are constantly checked. I am expecting important news, of the war, likely from Imperial Center itself today."

His majordomo nodded and Gaul relaxed. One of his few possessions brought over from Shawken, Khuen and his forebears had served his family for ages. And while there were undoubtedly traces of near-human and perhaps even alien in the being's genetics, centuries of cultivation had made Khuen more prepared than any other to care for Gaul's direct needs and commands. Perhaps, thought Gaul, he would request a performance, something suitably Shawkenese, from the majordomo tonight.

Little did he know that his plans would be greatly complicated, and that the crown would grow ten-times heavier that very night.

CLASSIFICATION: ULTIMA

FLETADMI ZEID: I believe that's everyone. Good. Gentlemen, I'm sure you've all received the grave news. The Empire's state is now uncertain and as officers, it is up to us to properly respond. Please, air your thoughts.
CPT MAZEWELL: This is a disaster-
CPT IZA: Oh really? A disaster. That's a small word. This is an unmitigated clusterfuck.
CPT MAZEWELL: You-
FLTADMI ZEID: Gentlemen, we'll get nowhere by arguing. Focus.
CPT IZA: Of course. My apologies.
CPT MAZEWELL: Yes. Ahem. As I was saying, things have gotten more dire. The reports of the Emperors death alongside Lord Vader have been verified. Death squadron was sent running with its tail between its legs. We…this…
CPT KOR: I'm afraid we're in uncharted space.
CPT MAZEWELL: Yes.
CPT KOR: Grand Moff Tycho seems to be mobilizing thing's already. I wouldn't be surprised if the Oversector is put on lockdown soon.
CPT YOSSEL: If Moff Sal doesn't overdose on spice, first.
CPT HUBTER: A frightening possibility.
CPT KOR: Regardless of the Grand Moff's habits, I don't doubt we'll be called up to do our part in securing the Oversector. We should prepare the fleet for possible action.
FLTADMI ZEID: An excellent suggestion, Captain Kor. Gentlemen, once we're finished here raise the readiness levels of your ships.
ROUND OF ASSENT
CPT IZA: Has Grand Admiral Serenon made any moves?
CPT MAZEWELL: I recall she was performing some PR event when the broadcast hit. I'm unsure of what else shes done.
FLTADMI ZEID: Serenon has been making her own preparations for the security of the Empire.
CPT HUBERT: There's been no word from the systems bordering the rebels of any assault. They may be focusing on the south first. We'll have time to prepare a response.
CPT IZA: If Maddox doesn't make any moves on Imperial Center, that is.
CPT KOR: He wouldn't be that insane.
CPT IZA: Insanity wouldn't have anything to do with it.
CPT MAZEWELL: If Imperial Center devolves into chaos, how could we possibly hold?
CPT YOSSEL: A temporary command centered on Corellia could secure the sector, in case of that possibility. Sal and Serenon seem amiable.
FLTADMI ZEID: I'm certain Grand Admiral Maddox will do whatever is necessary for the preservation of the peace.
CPT KOR: Of course.
CPT IZA: I've no doubt.
CPT YOSSEL: The rebel fleet that won at Endor must've been massive if it beat Death Squadron. I've heard rumors of fleet massing at Sullust. They'll east the south alive.
CPT KOR: They'd have to be mauled from fighting Vader's men. And we have serious deployments down there as well. They won't go down without a fight.
CPT IZA: Which gives us more time.
CPT MAZEWELL: If whoever wins in the core doesn't decide we look rather squashable, that is.
CPT MAZEWELL: Corellia is one of the gates to the core. This could get bad soon, especially if the Grand Moff and Grand Admiral stop cooperating.
CPT HUBERT: Somewhat pessimistic.
CPT IZA: I'd have said that if someone told me Palpatine would've died yesterday.
CPT KOR: We'll have to be careful.
FLTADMI ZEID: Indeed. Well, gentlemen, I think we have a better handle on the situation. Return to your ships, I'll have your orders ready for you soon.

Yeah, hi, this is Tycho Sal of Corellia. I'm just calling to make an inquiry regarding your services. According to this pamphlet I have here, it says you do cloning (obviously) but I want to know if you can mix and match DNA with the creation. You know, like, half one person, half the other, like a normal kid but, uh, you know, without needing matching reproductive organs for it.

See, I want to surprise my husband with a kid for our anniversary and I figured this'd be the best way to go.

Anyway, please send your response to my secretary (I'll include their contact details below) and I, uh, appreciate your prompt response.

TYCHO SAL

OFFICE OF THE GRAND VIZIER

GRAND ADMIRAL KELDOR TRAGEN MADDOX (@Aedan777)

Grand Admiral Maddox, perhaps you have forgotten in the moment, which is most understandable in the aftermath of the Emperor's death, of the existance of the Imperial High Command, which you are already apart of. The conduct of the war effort against the rebellion has been and will continue to be orchestrated through this organ, which will answer to the Office of the Grand Vizier and Imperial Ruling Council in the absence of the Emperor and the Supreme Commander.

As vital and important the Imperial Navy is to the Empire's continuation, we will not dismantle the institution and organ of the united command structure when there is no purpose or reason to do so. Your suggestion of self-appointment to this proposal of a naval-dominated entity will be denied as well.

But my office and that of the Ruling Council will over the course of time discuss the replacement of the office of Supreme Commander, perhaps if you conduct yourself in a manner which is competent and loyal, I may suggest your name be put to the list of potential candidates.

In the meantime Admiral, we expect your forces to secure the core accordingly, as Anaxes as you know is the gateway to Imperial Center and the heart of the core.

Long Live the New Order.

OFFICE OF THE GRAND VIZIER

GRAND MOFF TYCHO SAL (@Sidheach)

Grand Moff Sal, reinforcements will be distributed across Imperial sectors when necessary. Although Corellia is a vital shipyard and pathway to the core, we believe it is not under immediate threat of assault from Rebel forces. We will still allocate a small force to bolster Oversector Two and that of Grand Admiral Serenon as a precaution.

Regarding the request of transfer of Death Squadron to Grand Admiral Serenon's command, and to dock at Corellia, has been denied. Death Squadron is currently under the direct authority of the Imperial Ruling Council and the Office of the Grand Vizier until further notice. It's course and final destination will not be altered under any circumstances, any attempt to do so by your office or that of Grand Admiral Serenon will be disobeying a direct order.

The Emperor is dead, however painful and surreal it may appear as. We must continue onwards. The New Order and His Will is now in our hands.

You have your orders Grand Moff.

Long Live the New Order.

OFFICE OF THE GRAND VIZIER

GRAND MOFF CORVALO SEPTINA (@Fission Battery)

It is good to know you will follow the orders of my office and that of the Ruling Council regarding the security of Oversector Ten, as it is a vital link to the northeastern reaches of Imperial space and that of my homeworld of Ciutric IV.

Regarding Mandalore, I and the Ruling Council do not see the pacification of Mandalorian Space as a primary objective. The Imperial StarFleet must be husbanded accordingly for defensive purposes until the window of consolidation of Imperial forces has concluded. When this period has come we will begin to organize a response to avenge the Emperor's death through offensive actions.

We order any future offensive action in Mandalorian Space haulted immediately. Notification of possible recalling of Admiral Chinelo to Imperial Space to aid in defensive operations against potential rebel assault will be made by your office, as the Hydian Way must be defended at all costs and the Admiral's forces appear adequate to assist when necessary.

You have your orders Grand Moff, carry them out accordingly.

Long Live the New Order.

IMPERIAL ARMY CENTRAL COMMAND

GENERAL JANESSI PRAVENNE (@Gladsome)

General, extraordinary measures are being conducted throughout the galaxy regarding reinforcement of Imperial systems. The Grand Vizier has after consultation, alongside the Imperial Ruling Council granted your request for immediate reinforcement. We have also notified Grand Moff Sett Varian to provide what assets are available in the region to ensure potential rebel attacks are thwarted.

The rogue transmission from your region has also been noted and sent to Imperial High Command and that of the Office of the Grand Vizier. You are for the time being to ignore this individual's false proclamations and demands and continue securing your sector accordingly.

Long Live the New Order.

SPAARTI CREATIONS

GRAND MOFF TYCHO SAL (@Sidheach)

Greetings Grand Moff Sal, our advisors have determined that yes, we can splice DNA of two individuals to create a new individual. Although this process is somewhat rare as most customers request a one-hundred percent clone of themselves, it is possible.

Unfortunately, our services have been temporarily suspended on orders of the Imperial government. The reasoning behind this is unknown to us, but we shall not violate any Imperial laws to provide you with your request.

Our apologies in advance Grand Moff Sal, we will when notified of the lifting of restrictions begin work immediately.

Spaarti Creations.

Grand Admiral Baobab had to read the Endor report 4 times before it seemed real. Then he sat down and fixed himself a Reactor Core like he used to drink and pulled up his datapad and his books on Xim's campaigns. The first step of course was to delete the letter of resignation. That would be useless now. Pulling back up his list of subordinates he began to draft communiques.

Gentlemen, I will keep this communication short as you are no doubt bombarded with them. Considering the current situation it is likely that rebel activity in all sectors will be emboldened and escalate. To reduce strain on Imperial High Command and the likely to be disrupted holonet, I propose that we, the three foremost figures in the Northwestern Theater of Operations maintain lines of strategic communications to ensure coordination and effective use of limited assets during this crisis.

Commander. You have undoubtedly seen the recent rebel transmission. Regrettably recent reports from Death Squad confirm the rebels claims- attempts to trap the rebel leadership have ended in disaster. Even more concerning Death Squadron reports that in the aftermath of the defeat several elements went rogue. Commander even without the Emperor, the Empire endures and defeatism and desertion are intolerable. Task Force Kryat is authorized to take all necessary measures to ensure that such an blemish on the honor of the Imperial Navy does not occur in the Northwestern Theater of Operations and that all Imperial assets remain in loyal hands.

Commodore. It has long been my habit to take the time to be formally introduced when notable officers come under my command, but unfortunately present circumstances forbid it. I have read your file and understand that you have a great desire for an offensive deployment. Commodore the Empire has recently suffered a major defeat in the southwestern Theater of operations and every indication is that rebel activity will be emboldened galactically. Immediate action to suppress the rebel pocket in the Northwestern Theater is needed yet orders from the Grand Vizier have officially discouraged offensives. However if a Commodore in command of a notable flotilla launched a local offensive the suppression of the holonet needed to prevent the spread of rebel propaganda would make it all but impossible to order a recall of such a force before they were already committed.
I hope you understand my meaning and know that if I'm giving you rope it is enough that could be used to hang the both of us, so don't fail.

Transmission To All Imperial Navy Commands and Grand Moffs

Grand Vizier Pestage has proven himself not up to the heavy burden of leading the Empire in these dire times. A man with no military experience deigns to give us orders and the results could be devastating if allowed. He bars offensive actions, denies needed requests for reinforcements, and hordes assets to defend himself in the core. These actions will hand the initiative entirely over to the rebels and lose us swaths of the Outer Rim, perhaps even more if allowed to rule long enough.

Therefore we cannot allow this. I am now on my way to Imperial Center to relieve the Grand Vizier of his duties and restore able command for the Empire. This is a radical decision, and one I do not make lightly, but it is necessary. I ask that you all support me in this rectification of leadership and continue the anti-rebellion activities that you, the people with experience and local understanding, consider most appropriate until I have resecured Imperial Center. If all goes well this will only be a short and insignificant disrupt on the path to saving the Emperor's legacy.

Long Live the Empire! Long Live the New Order!

Grand Admiral Keldor Tragen Maddox

The echoes of the screams slowly faded across the halls and data trenches where analysts and surveillance agents worked daily.

Despite the disturbance, no one dared to look at the sealed doors of the Director's office. Only the black-clad troopers standing guard over the entrance remained undisturbed by the wailing cries. Fear permeated everything and everyone, even their most mundane of gestures seemed surreal to those gripped by the sudden wave of paranoia.

Inside her office, Phita was reduced to nothing. Her neatly arranged image and cold demeanor entirely gone.
A small lump of disheveled flesh, sobbing and trembling, curled up against the corner of her office desk. Towering over her, its repulsor field humming amid the sobs, the crimson droid stood impassive as its faceless mask reflected the pathetic misery of its charge.
She had raged against it, screaming at the top of her lungs in sheer frustration, disbelief and shock, then desperation and shattering grief. Thin lines, almost imperceptible, ran across the smooth surface of the glass encasing its face just where Phita's nails chipped while trying to break in.

The Emperor tolerated nothing but obedient slaves, specially those who were to deal in some of his secrets. And Phita was no exception to this.
However, she did not grieved the passing of the tyrant nor the pain of a life bereft of direction without the guiding hand of a master. No. Her whole being was hollowed and wracked by the sudden realization that decades of the most immoral acts, sacrifices made in the name of a love never allowed to be given, an entire life of voluntary enslavement had come to nothing. Yet Endor was a reality and it had taken everything from her.

The Emperor was dead.
And no one will ever know where her daughter went.

TRANSMISSION TO GRAND MOFF TANDI MAXCETUS @FantasticMsFox
FROM THE DESK AND OFFICE OF FLEET ADMIRAL OSRIN RIEN'TAL, CURRENTLY LOCATED AT THE PLANET OF HOTH

Greetings, Grand Moff.

The disaster at the Endor has left my command in an utterly untenable position. I have neither the men nor the ships needed to defend Hoth against a concerted rebel offensive nor do I believe it would be beneficial to the wider Empire if my fleet was blown to smithereens defending a planet with nothing but symbolic value.

Thence I humbly offer myself to your command and authority and propose that you allow my fleet permission to rest at Pendari, where our joint force will be sure to repel any attempt by the rebel forces to finish the conquest of your Oversector.

Commodore,

The 13th Sector Army is currently headquartered at Denon, actively fortifying in preparation for possible Rebel Offensives towards the core worlds along the Corellian Run or the Hydian Way. Considering previous reports of Rebel Fleets massing near Sullust, I consider it likely that such offensives will begin in the near future.

While the Denon is heavily fortified, I have concerns about the lack of heavy naval assets standing in the way of a Rebel advance. As such, I am requesting that available Naval assets rendevous with the 13th SA headquarters at Denon.

Given your position at Ryloth may be untenable with the current state of affairs, I suggest we unite our forces at Denon and prepare for any incoming offensive.

Dear Surface Marshal,

I would be happy to link up with you once I have finished Operation Phoenix and thus secured Ryloth against Rebel threats.

That being said, does Grand Moff Gaul not possess the necessary resources and closer proximity to Denon? I am afraid it will take me some time to push down the Corellian Run, and in truth he is the one we should both be consulting regarding orders and reinforcements.

Long Live the Empire.

The message from the Grand Admiral came. He read it again. And again, as mild disillusion overcame him. A fool he thought. A traitor he was.

He guided with a swift hand to one of the Royal Guard beside him within the Inner Sanctum of the Imperial Palace.

"Get me the ISB immediately. Notify Grand Moff Takel to prepare the system for attack and have the entirety of Oversector One on full alert. We will have uninvited guests soon."

The Royal Guard nods and leaves the Sanctum, the Grand Vizier - only mere days after the Emperor's death, faced treason of the highest order and one that would dismantle His Empire at its moment of greatest weakness if successful.

Time was always short. The New Order must be fought for its very existence now.

OFFICE OF THE GRAND VIZIER

Loyal citizens of the New Order and Galactic Empire. Today is a dark chapter upon us all. I have been notified of a declaration - a spitting in the face of all good Imperials which adhere to the tenants of the New Order.

Grand Admiral Maddox has announced his intent to usurp the Imperial government for his own self-interest, looking to anoint himself as a false Emperor over the galaxy. This will not be tolerated in any way shape or form. The Rebellion still festers across the galaxy, the Grand Admiral perhaps wishes to see them prosper, or has been an agent of their design which will attempt to dismantle the Empire from within. My office and the Imperial Ruling Council have in response to these heinous crimes stripped Keldor Tragen Maddox of all titles and authority over Imperial forces. Any who follow his command will be designated as traitors to the Empire. For those who lay down their arms and come to their senses, amnesty will be offered for the lost souls or those forced against their will.

I will say now and forever that such weak-willed individuals will fail. The Empire, the New Order will continue in spite of these fool-hearted attempts of defiance and treason.

Loyalty is expected, merit rewarded. Maddox and those who follow him have forgotten such things. To all within the Empire, remember your place. Your oath to service and duty.

Long Live the New Order.

Commodore,

I have already reached out to Grand Moff Gaul and am awaiting his response. However, as the shipyards at Allanteen represent a strategic target for any Rebel advance, I consider it likely that the SSD Aegis and its supporting fleet will not be available to reinforce Denon in a timely manner.

Regarding the chain of command, I have already contacted my direct superior Grand General Rougrer, and the Grand Moff of Oversector 2, Tycho Sal. However, considering the severity of the current situation I consider it paramount to reinforce the approches to the Core by any means available, including directly contacting Officers with forces nearby.

When your neccesary operations are complete, I believe it would be beneficial for our forces to link up. Assuming, of course, the Rebels have not begun their offensive at that point.

Good luck at Ryloth, Commodore.

Long Live The Empire
