Springtime of Nations: A German Republic Quest

[] Progressive Party (Pacifists)
-[] The Economy
-Create a Veterans Ministry to provide free higher/continuing education, new work opportunities, and healthcare for veterans. Demobilize the military, focusing on soldiers with other jobs waiting for them.
-National education reform, including an emphasis on teaching girls. Every child should be in school, hire more teachers if need be. Create minimum academic requirements for schools, including the readings of local literature that espouse progressive ideas.
-Make committees to plan the rebuilding of Frankfurt, Berlin, Erfurt, etc. using all the newest ideas in urban planning. Get architects and planners from around the globe to work with locals to completely redesign the cities from the ground up to fit with the egalitarian and worker-centric ideologies of the republic. Use daring new ideas like electric subways, easy access to utilities and government services, urban green space, public sanitation, linear cities to truly revolutionize living spaces in preparation of future growth.

Tentative plan.

Edit: Edited by the discord. And then I edited again for word count.

-[] Daughters of Germany! Look to the Future!
- National service is a universal expectation of Germania's citizens! Man and Woman alike must be called upon to serve. This shall form the backbone of our military, with the professional military being drawn from those who are most capable on their national service, ensuring the professional military becomes a more elite offshoot of the landwehr in the long term.
- The Church is a lodestone about the neck of our republic! The Germany Of The Future cannot be tied down by such a patriarchal and backwards institution! We must worship at the altar of science and progress, that our people shall grow into rounded and virtuous citizens. Secularise the republic.
- Germany lies in ruins, her cities destroyed. We must rebuild them, according to the most radical theories of urban planning. The linear city, the atmospheric train, a hospital within an hour of every citizen, all this is possible through urban planning.

I'm deffo going to get back to you on some of my own suggested modifications, clean up that national service a bit like we talked about, add sewers and such to the cities

And another plan, this one more controversial.

[] Socialist Party (Vanguards)
-[] The future is urban and the state will make it happen
--[] Define family farm on the basis of non employment of non owning workers rather than size. Restrict government subsidy and investment to farms that collectivize and works with the agriculture ministry for distribution, while ensuring those investments make the opportunity attractive. Make sure any expropriated land goes to such projects in priority.
--[] Employ demobilizing soldiers and people displaced by the civil war into organizing a permanent labor force under the infrastructure ministry and direct them to rebuilding our cities and links between them using our most up to date urban planning concepts to support growing urban population.
--[] Centralize all education through the state's ministry of education and use it to strike at social conservatism while stoking class consciousness with a focus towards uplifting our more backward areas to ensure the future generations will also seek progress.

Look, not all the socialists are going to be cuddly consensus makers, especially after a victory. If Germany want to pull ourselves into the socialist future, it requires building up its working class, and clinging to traditional family farming isn't the way to do this. And the socialists think the civil war has made the state a socialist organ, unlike the communists, so the plan also embrace working through the ministries. Though in the spirit of the post war peace agreement, this plan doesn't actually force collectivization on the rural areas directly, just make it the only viable economic choice.

I don't expect this to do very well right now due to the farmers' organization strength but it's the first round of votes so I feel like setting tendencies even if they're not immediately the most successful.

Given how this is prefaced as being controversial, it's surprisingly tame. A Proudhon-style occupancy-and-use standard for ownership will likely be amenable to many anarchists, although the favouritism with government support could cause friction with groups that want to mutualize the agricultural industry. Likewise, the second point is similar to stuff that is desired across the political spectrum, just with possible minor sticking points (especially with the not-Labour Army possibly being permanent and building off past disagreements there).

The most controversial part is probably the last part, since it leaves little room for local autonomy. Efforts to "uplift backwards areas" could end up resulting in stamping out local culture, especially if the curriculum for these areas is being prepared by some committee in Frankfurt that doesn't even speak the local language and is trying to "teach the Dane/Pole/Swabian/whatever out of the child". It's a bit hard with only ~50 words, but I do think we should all try to find a compromise between celebrating unique local cultures and shifting those areas away from conservatism - if not, I suspect that we'll see reactionary elements start associating the local cultures with opposition to leftist ideas and using that as a springboard for greater power. Iirc, that was one of the techniques used before the war.

Basically everyone seem down with giving the farmers what they want (including my other plans, somehow) and I felt like being more aggressive on the family farming front, which is one organization with high support this plan will piss off.

As for education, yeah I'm already at the word limit, though it's focused on attacking social conservatism and building class consciousness so it can compromise to have language provisions if another party ask for it. I also think it's a pretty expected flaw in character so that's fitting.

Building class consciousness necessarily means tearing down some of the traditional markers of ethnic consciousness, simply because those were used to divide the working class. That said windowing out what's an artificial bourgeois division and what isn't is a tricky question.

Yeah, you don't want to start oppressing ethnic and religious minorities in the name of breaking down bourgeois divisions. I think tearing institutions and systems that propagate nationalistic and ethnic divisions while allowing freedom of expression should be fine. If Poles want school taught in Polish that should be approved of wholeheartedly.

-- Establish professional commissars, specialists and support personnel (full time state jobs for the educated, technical and laboring classes respectively) to replace the Bundeswehr as the backbone of the Landwehrs' professional core. Provide for female membership in the support staff as a soft entry into women soldierhood.
- Provide a centralized reform of the school and university system to promote scientific education, progressive values, and ensure the full civic and academic education of all citizens regardless of sex, creed, class, region etc.
- Expand the legal notion of family property back into the full sphere of petite bourgeois activities and challenge the mostly union and coop larger businesses to meet new/reestablished national regulations and standards independent of their own collective standards.

Might be asking a bit much, but do any of the proposed plans so far focus on the Military *and* the Economy?
You have three votes so you can support a variety of plans. What positions do you support for the military? My plans for the Socialist Workers are focused on establishing an ideologically reliable professional military and getting our debt back under control and my Orthodox Socialist plans are focused on rebuilding infrastructure and restarting trade to reignite economic activity.

- National service is universal for Germany's citizens! Man and Woman are called to serve. This forms the backbone of our military, with the professionals being drawn from their ranks. To facilitate development of our citizens, national service shall be preceded by universal youth organizations for boys and girls that teach patriotic and socialist virtues to our growing citizens
-The superstitious deathgrip of religion must be broken! All citizens, from cradle through grave must be inoculated against this backwardness by lifetime education in rationalism and science. Replace the religious cults of unreason with a secular cult of reason! Secular Republicism Invictus!
- Germany's cities are devastated. They shall be rebuilt according to modern radical theories of urban planning. Linear cities, sewers, public hygiene, electric subways, trams, atmospheric trains, a hospital within an hour of every citizen, spacious communal housing, all must be examined and implemented for a prosperous and socialist Germany!

tbh, this feels like more a Progressive (Moderate) platform, it's not quite insane enough to be a radical platform. There is a particular brand of mild unhingitude that Progressive (Radicals) should strive for >: V

Professional and reliable sound good to me. I might for your Socialist Workers plan then. The Orthodox Socialist plan isn't bad either, but I'm just ultra paranoid and want my big beefy troops asap tbh.

[] Communist Party (Vanguards)
-[] Today, Germany. Tomorrow, the world.
--Organize an agency for the export of the revolution, staffed with ideologically committed vanguard fighters of the civil war. Its priorities should be training political exiles and establishing connections with workers movements abroad. Its first targets will be the reactionary powers who backed the German monarchist cause.
--Establish 50% gender quotas across state positions, both appointed and elected, as well as encouraging women participation in the workplace in general
--Offer state support for the organization of collective housekeeping and childrearing along cooperative lines as a way to free women from individually shouldering those duties

After some discord discussion, here's a ComVan party platform, leaning heavily on women's rights but also trying to fill the internationalist niche I think is missing from other plans, with an eye towards the reactionaries who backed German monarchism. The last plank also serves as an economic plank.

[] Radical Party (Republicans)
- [] The Legionary's Reward
-- Conduct a census of arable land in the regions previously held by the National Coalition. Expropriate all privately-held land and offer it in small parcels to those who proved their reliability and loyalty to the Republic in wartime. Pay particular attention to the quality of the recipients in the border regions. The result of this process should be a class of yeoman farmers able to defend the Republic from monarchist aggression.
-- Organize a permanent standing army, but do not repeat the mistakes of the past by separating it from the Landwehr. The professional army will be structured identically to the Landwehr, but will consist of ideologically-vetted citizens who have volunteered for peacetime mobilization. Demobilize other Landwehr formations.
-- Protect yeoman farmers from expropriation by permitting personal ownership of any farm small enough to be overseen by a single person. A private owner may hire labourers, but not additional managers.

Regarding farm ownership, I'm sure the Radicals will point out that the labour required to run a farm can vary greatly depending on season and type of crop under cultivation. Moreover, liberty demands that a farmer need not keep his entire family tied to the land in order to run his farm as he pleases.

What about the liberty of the workers tho.

You work it, you own it. Can't work it alone? Better make a coop that can include the workers you're missing in controlling it. Can't find work for them the rest of the year? Well a coop is big enough to diversify in a way a family farm isn't.

Yes ish , the Socialist Party (Orthodox) have a plank for that
And we of the democrats (liberal) have 2 planks to start trade relationships with south and Central America
I don't think full alliances are in the cards for now. So I focused on lower tariffs and trade deals for now to create a diplomatic opening to exploit once we are less of a mess.

An alliance with Spain in this legislative period might be doable but I don't like the possible diplomatic fallout. I think we should take it slow and not spook Italy or France. Italy is already on the fence of making concessions to France in exchange for an alliance and immediately begining to forge the Progressive Alliance is liable to spook them enough to push them fully into the Franco-British camp. France is also not going to be thrilled about a Spanish-German alliance for obvious geographic and military reasons. Properly establishing relations with France and Britain and establishing ourselves as a reliable diplomatic actor is necessary before we begin forging serious alliances imo.

Also our next fight is likely to be to the east and our allies should probably be chosen accordingly.

Actually, China has suffered from our absence on the world stage to balance the colonial powers and we should probably work on something on that front. It'd be useful if they could serve as a springboard into the Russian far east in case of war.
