[x] Move to the Kingdom of Terek

Not sure about XP yet. One thing I want to do is create an agricultural revolution in Terek - it's sort of a precondition for a truly industrial / post-industrial society. However, biology and agriculture in Creation work quite differently than they do on Earth, so there are a lot of additional factors there we need to consider.

Kingdom of Terek sounds like the place we can get most of our stuff of the ground. Starting stuff in all the other places would require us to strictly limit ourselves so as to not upset the powers that be much. Otherwise we'll end up getting killed.

That said it might be a good idea to learn some more here and acquire some basic resources. I'm not sure what language they speak in Terek but if it is different from here well end up back where we started. Learning this language all beings like us should know would also be helpful with fitting in. Lastly having some basic currency and raw materials would simplify many things. These are all things that might be simpler to acquire here in Nexus.

@Aranfan Can we vote to move to Terek after getting some preparations done?

As for Terek... hmm... I'm a bit hesitant to try and overthrow the one monarchy we know of that seems like it might naturally evolve into something okay-ish.
We don't have to overthrow it, just help it realize its potential to become a constitutional monarchy.

Great Forks sounds like the place that needs a revolution most.
It also sounds like the place we are most likely to get sat on for trying to start a revolution.

Otherwise, Nexus seems like the best bet. A large middle class sounds good. But I'm not so sure starting the industrial revolution is the best thing we could do. The Realm is the political entity by far best positioned to make use of those new technologies, and its government isn't going to be overthrown by us anytime soon.
Gigantic hydraulic despotism-style states often do NOT do well with the jump to industrial technology. They have too many institutions that have to adapt or die in order to function in the new paradigm, and a lot of them tend to choose "die" either deliberately or by default.

Think about most of the big monolithic imperial monarchies that dominated most of Eurasia in, say, the 17th and early 18th century: the Ottomans, the Qing Dynasty, the Holy Roman Empire, the Mughals. There were a few 'rising king' contenders for that kind of status (Louis XIV's France, the Czars in Russia), too.

None of those political institutions lasted much past 1900, and all of them were very obviously in trouble by the late 1800s if not earlier.

If we can make Terek obviously successful other places will be inclined to copy them.

@Aranfan : How far away are these places? Are we going to need jet engine?

@Aranfan : How far away are these places? Are we going to need jet engines?

That depends on how quickly you want to get there. Nexus is where you are currently. Great Forks is 523 miles away as the bird flies, or about 4 days by river boat. Terek is about 900ish to 1000ish miles away as the bird flies, and the river route takes about 3 weeks because of how far out of the way it is.

The Realm is about 1900 miles away, and about two weeks by boat.

We are going to want to be able to easily bring trade goods so we don't have to start out from scratch.

I don't think we have any trade goods yet... Until we get something of value we aren't going to make any money regardless of how fast or slow we are.

@Aranfan What language is spoken in Terek? And can we vote for delaying departure until we acquire some more knowledge and/or resources?

@Aranfan : Can we make a Bureaucracy (Commerce) check to figure out what we can get in Nexus that will sell for a profit in Terek?

[X] Stay in Nexus

I think we should stay in Nexus, as our stats reflect a more mental bent.

Given the current prevailing philosophy touted by those we wish to dispense FREEDOM to, we should likely put in the reason why leaders and "virtuous, enlightened" beings should be held accountable is because while they may have gone "up the ladder" by previous lives actions, there remains the possibility of going down by unvirtuous living. Plus there is shame that could be brought on people for their actions, for having lived previous lived virtuously only so they could have thier current life get away with being cruel and debauched.

This, plus us going the economic route lets us say two things to the Immaculates. The first is that we don't need to extort prayer to be fabulously wealthy, and the second is that while obviously disagree on points of philosophy we aren't trying to outright overthrow them (even if we might actually be) and so they definetly have no need to send monk squads to kick our door in.

Edited.

If we buy jet engine none of these choices are that limiting. We will be able to fly between them in an hour or 3.

I will close votes in an hour to get a second post out today.

Guess I'm not getting an answer on or time to build support for preparing before leaving.

It is more like asking where we want to start our work. Terek is the place we disagree with least so it is the place we are going to most able to be honest with our intentions and do some real work on societal change. By starting there we can build up some experience and support structure, maybe even pick up a cult rating. Once we have some proven success behind us spreading out will be easier.

"I don't know how I feel about this."

1. Secularism means separating the state and religion, not no religion. As long as we maintain a clear separation we shouldn't be too bothered.
2. We won't necessarily need to strive for getting a cult to get one. If we start being helpful and awesome we'll likely pick up worshipers regardless.
3. We are going to need to revise our definition of secularism regardless since the situation is quite obviously not the same as the apparent situation on Earth. Gods are entirely real and intelligent beings here after all. Denying gods prayer and their part in governance would be a violation of both their natural rights and their right to participate in democracy after all. And it would also be pretty iffy to try and limit freedom of religion in some ways. That is something like two or more of our defining intimacies.

Starting Out 7
"You have my thanks for lodging me, Abbot Niktar. However I am ready to move on and settle elsewhere."

He quirks an eyebrow. "Oh? Great Forks I assume?"

You shake your head. "The Kingdom of Terek. I have decided to go there to make my fortune."

"I must admit to curiosity. You could get a cult much easier in Great Forks."

"No, I have no interest in a cult, and I am not worthy of being worshiped besides. I mean it more literally. I am going to Terek to settle and establish myself, to become a member of the community, and to make a living."

Niktar hums in consideration, "I see. Why Terek then?"

"Because I hate slavery."

There is silence for a moment as he processes that.

"Very well then Accord. I wish you luck on your journey. If you would be willing to indulge an old man his curiosity, how do you intend to go?"

[] I plan to offer my services as a guard to a trade caravan that way.
[] I plan to do some wage labor in Nexus to earn enough to pay for a boat ride, maybe with some left over.
[] I plan to get these turbines working and fly there (Spends 8xp on Jet Engine)
[] Write in some other method
