[X] "I have held to my end of the bargain, will you teach me to read and write now?"

People....Creation's spirits KNOW these things from the moment of instantiation, if they are self aware. Even the non-self aware spirits know the language.

Classical liberalism in Creation? I'm sad I missed this earlier.

Starting Out 5
"I only woke up a few days ago - am I supposed to know this from the moment of my creation?"

Niktar tenses before responding, "Frankly, yes."

"Then I guess I'm something new." You shrug.

"Something new? That's all you have to say in your defense?" Niktar demands.

You turn towards River and address her instead, "I will take your word for being more powerful and talented than 'mere mortals', but I must admit skepticism towards your claim of superior virtue."

Niktar tenses further, and seems ready to spring at you before river puts a hand on his pauldron. "He's been nothing but helpful to us so far, Abbot."

Niktar does a long exhale out of his nose, before straightening. "You are correct Thrice Splitting River." He says without breaking eye contact with you. "You are welcome in our cloister Collected Perspective Accord, as we agreed. Yet know that I will be watching you, something new, carefully."

Niktar pivots on his heel and walks away. River shrugs.

River teaches you how to read and write, as was promised. While there you have access to the literary resources of the cloister. They are part of what is called "The Immaculate Faith".

The Faith holds that there is a cycle of reincarnation that all living corporeal things, so not spirits or elementals, progress through. Rising and falling according to their virtuousness in life. Those who are very close to the end are blessed with Exaltation, and this justifies their temporal power. Obedience is very much a virtue, and it doesn't seem that the duties are reciprocal. A ruler is still owed obedience by his subjects, even if he is an unvirtuous tyrant.

You are strongly reminded of Confucianism again.

It also has quite a lot to say about spirits. Namely that there is a celestial bureaucracy, ruled by the Sun God, and the spirits are supposed to obey that hierarchy, but have become corrupted and need to be forced into not extorting more worship than their station allows, usually by Exalts. To that end all followers of the Immaculate Faith must follow a calendar of worship, rather than worshiping any god in particular.

In addition to the various precepts, there are five "Immaculate Dragons" who are to be emulated and five "antitheses" who followers should avoid emulating.

It seems like quite a fulfilling religion, and one that serves as an excellent social glue. It will oppose your ideology, you know it, for it does not believe in equality or liberty.

But you had access to more than just that. You read up on:

[] The Current Political Situation with a view for places you could settle.

Can we only buy solar Bureaucracy Charms that we meet the requirements for? That is to say essence 1?

Here are the two essence 1 solar charms I could find. I hope that they are the right edition.

Cost: 1m
Mins: Bureaucracy 1, Essence 1
Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-OK
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None

Only a fool would cheat the heroes of the dawn. This Charm supplements a normal or dramatic action to estimate something's quality and price. Examples include the normal action to estimate the quality of a gem and the dramatic action to evaluate a shipment of silk and spices. This Charm gives the Exalt a perfect awareness of the target object's quality and condition. This awareness gives one bonus success on any price haggling if her bargaining opponent is honest (and using Charisma) and three bonus successes if the opponent is dishonest (and using Manipulation).

Cost: 3m
Mins: Bureaucracy 3, Essence 1
Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-OK, Social
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None

Smoothly managing the economy is vital to the management of a state. This Charm supplements a social or dramatic action to buy, sell or trade something wisely.
This Charm provides information on market values. To the extent that the Exalt understands what the target item, shipment, import or export is—and to the extent that he understands the relevant markets—this Charm gives the Solar a perfect knowledge of its value in those markets. This information is sometimes worth the Charm's cost in itself, but the main effect of this Charm and this information is to reduce external penalties applying to the mercantile action by an amount equal to the Solar's Essence. Whether the Solar is trying to buy a good sword for himself, outfit his army in exceptional steel, trade off yeddim for silk before plague kills the beasts or sell off the produce of his nation's labor, he can overcome penalties from scarcity, volatile markets and trade barriers.

The second charm should work just as well as an Insightful seller technique. It should enable us to know of all the things we can craft what would sell the best.

I would like to learn old realm before moving to somewhere else. If we go somewhere else I don't want to stick out.

I wonder if Liberalism, being a Zeitgeist (spirit of a time) will attract curious raksha. After all, Liberalism was defined by the stories, adventures, debates and wars that occurred to define it. Liberalism is a whole bunch of dreams/philosophies/ideals of a better future, and the stories that came with it. It may be a spirit after being pulled through the well, but it was an undefined series of narritives and ideals beforehand.

What's the XP cost for upgrading stats, or does that happen normally as we accumulate power (in the quest)?

If we buy Jet Engine we should be able to travel much farther. There is almost nothing in creation that has that sort of travel ability. In creation 700 miles is an adventure. With jet engine we can do it in an hour.

Almost nothing being the 700 Celestial Exalts if they specialize in it.

...Which given the size of the setting is still a negligible portion of even the supernatural population, but it's not an OCP.

We should make a bit a seed money then buy some stuff to sell somewhere far away for more. All the fast travelers in this setting are likely to find basic trade beneath their dignity.

Get Jet engines.

Considering that most of our offensive power comes from ranged weapons and that we have limited ammo, perhaps buying Ammo Fabrication world be a prudent choice? I'd rather us not be an archer with no arrows and being able to attack from range while flying is a massive advantage against more melee or martially inclined foes.
Ammo Fabrication
Cost: 5m, Min: Essence 1
Type: Simple
Keywords:
Duration: Instant
Prerequisites: Internal Fabricators

Fully reload all of Liberalism's natural weapons.

I have no idea how much ammo we have left and therefore not idea how urgent that charm is.
