Spiral Overdrive (JoJo/TTGL)

[X] Neb, the town facing a mysterious set of problems.

We have a thing that helps us find the source of problems, provided it won't kill us.

[X] Experiment with Shooting Star's abilities. (Do as many as possible in the time allowed)
-[X] Ask Shooting Star to find weaknesses in a building that could cause it to collapse, inform the owner of the danger
-[X] Ask Shooting Star to find someone in town who needs help
-[X] Ask Shooting Star to influence the luck of Sumiya for the better
-[X] Ask Shooting Star if she can tell how lucky a person is by looking at them
-[X] Ask Shooting Star to find any Stand Users in town who would be willing to help Jirou. Other than you, of course.
-[X] Ask Shooting Star if she can find any unowned Red Stones in the vicinity of the town. Those sounded shiny and nice!

Basic experiments, do a check for Stand Users, do a check for Red Stone.

Question: Can shooting star eventually evolve to look like this?
Well, no. But at the same time, yes. It's complicated, but you'll see.
That's fine. I might change the title, though.

... How did I forget 'check for Stand Users'? Added Enjou and WoC's stuff to my vote.
Clever of you! No comment on the Stand Users, though.

Damn, Shooting Star is almost PtV-lite. Soooo broken!

I know, I just find the whole spending several updates just experimenting and not advancing the plot in anyway to be fairly boring.

I guess I should put up a vote though.

[X] Talk with Jirou while he fixes the radio.

...Oh god, this is a pain. So it looks like delaying the decision won, along with that experimentation write-in, and finding someone knowledgeable on Neb and Riga in town. Some of those options were clever but would take up the entire day, so I'll be using the experimentation options that don't suck up all your time. Votes Locked.

Removed: Ask Shooting Star to find someone in need of help (event dice, would have taken too long), Ask Shooting Star to find Red Stones (you can do this on the road trip, you damned scavengers), Ask Shooting Star if she can find anything to help Mr.Jirou's research (again, event dice, same case for looking for a Stand User).

You hesitate a bit, eyeing the two towns uncertainly. Really, you need more information before you can make a decision here; you barely know anything about the two towns, and neither does Jirou apparently.

"Mr.Jirou, do you mind if I make my decision tomorrow? I know little of the two towns, and this seems like an important decision…"

Jirou shrugs, though you hear a note of approval in his voice.

"Sure, take as long as you need. I'll be fixing the radio and picking up some of the basic supplies you'll need, what are you gonna do?"

You think for a moment, before deciding.

"I'll be trying to test the limits of Shooting Star's abilities. I'll tell you if I find anything useful."

Jirou grins. "A mindset like that, and you'll get along just fine with my colleagues. Well, see you in the morning."

With that, the two of you part ways.

As it turns out, it's a little difficult to find a spot away from prying eyes in Wilpur, but you manage to find a relatively isolated spot and set up a small row of bottles as a target. You turn to Shooting Star, tossing a rock between your hands, and begin the experiment.

"Shooting Star, can you show me the best way to hit the bottles with the rocks?"

Shooting Star eyes you critically for a moment, before smiling widely and nodding. She gestures, and a row of light extends from your hand to a bottle. You frown a bit.

"I don't mean the best path, Shooting Star. I mean the best way to throw the rock."

Shooting Star smacks it's fist into its palm in a gesture of understanding, and then, suddenly you can see from two different perspectives! You blink, trying to get used to the sensation, before you realize something.

"Shooting Star? Are these your eyes? I can see things really clearly now...Eh? What's that golden stuff…"

Shooting Star's perspective fades away, but one thing remains; you can see golden areas that seem to shift gradually, and alongside them are red areas that seem to radiate malice. Shooting Star draws a line of light between your hand and one of the golden areas, causing you to blink in understanding.

"The best path…is in the golden areas? But, how does that work…?"

One of the areas is going in a completely different direction from the bottle, after all. You hesitate, but toss the rock gently through the golden area, and are shocked by the next turn of events.

Roll 1d100 for 'Rock Aiming' Strong Good Luck Area, automatic critical success!

The rock is sent off-course by a strong breeze, causing it to hit a small heap of scrap that was left out in the road. The scrap tumbles over, and the sun shines brightly off of it's reflection, causing it to blind a passing bird! The bird gives a surprised caw, and collides with the row of bottles, sending them all crashing to the ground!

You stare at the row of bottles for a second, before turning back to look at a proud Shooting Star.

"…Well, that seems useful."

________________________________________________________________________________

Now then, time for the next experiment!

You jog to the saloon, feeling much better after getting some food and rest, though you left your cloak back at the inn. You study the building across from it—some kind of bank or casino, judging from all the people with money entering happy and leaving…well, considerably less so. Shooting Star appears in a flash on your shoulder, looking mildly curious as to what you're doing.

"Shooting Star, can you show me the weaknesses in the building?"

Shooting Star nods, and you can suddenly see the golden and red areas again. This time, Shooting Star draws a path to the red areas; some are particularly concentrated near a section of the framework…

You walk over to it, curious as to the effect of the red areas. You study the framework closely; it looks a little rusted, but nothing indicates that this section of the framework is any weaker than the rest…You glance at Shooting Star doubtfully, and she huffs in irritation. She floats over the section, and gives it a good kick.

Roll 1d100 for 'Damage to Building' Strong Bad Luck Area, automatic critical success.

A deep shuddering sensation envelops the entire building as its walls simply fall out, leaving you staring blankly at the people playing cards and roulette inside. Then a man wearing a rather tasteless white suit emerges from an office inside, tearing at his hair as tears run down his face.

"NOOOOOO! MY BUSINESS! WHY, GOD, WHY!!!!"

You stare at the red areas and Shooting Star as he freaks out.

"…I shall use this power for good!"

Then you dash off to the saloon before anyone figures out you had something to do with this.

________________________________________________________________________________

You enter the saloon, feeling a little guilty over what you just did. Wait, no, Shooting Star was guilty, since she was the one to kick the building. Therefore, you're innocent, and all you have to do is scold Shooting Star later and you'll be devoid of any guilt or responsibility for the issue!

That's your story and you're sticking to it, anyways. You find your thoughts interrupted by a large hand gripping your shoulder firmly.

"Hey, Nia, where have you been? You had me worried, you know?" Sumiya says, looking relieved and slightly annoyed.

You smile brightly at her. "I found Mr.Jirou, and he gave me a job! I'm to find some helpers for him and his friends, and in exchange they'll help me get back home."

Sumiya raises an eyebrow in surprise. "Really? That's generous of him. I hope he isn't having you do anything too dangerous…"

You shake your head, and give Sumiya a reassuring smile. "Not at all. I'm only to bring cooperative candidates, not the most efficient. So I can avoid the dangerous ones."

Sumiya relaxes at that, and ruffles your hair with a smile. "Glad to hear you've gotten a bit of good luck. Now if only some of that would rub off on me…" she says, looking at the stack of papers on the saloon counter with a sigh.

You blink. "Is something wrong, Ms.Sumiya?"

Sumiya waves off your concern. "Not much, just the usual trouble with running a saloon in the middle of nowhere. It's damned hard to get any decent supplies around here, and the traders know it, so they usually gouge me for prices. It looks like we won't be having any cider for a while…"

You give Sumiya a sympathetic look, before a thought occurs to you. I wonder…can Shooting Star help others?

Shooting Star appears on your shoulder in a flash of light, awaiting a command. You whisper to her as Sumiya focuses on her bills. "Can you do anything to help Sumiya out?"

Shooting Star gives Sumiya a considering look, and suddenly the lucky areas from before are visible again. This time, rather than draw a path, Shooting Star seems to shine brightly as she gestures towards Sumiya, a look of concentration on her face.

Super Luck has been surged! Lost +5 bonus, worst outcomes possible!

Super Luck has been surged on a bystander! Good Luck Areas around the bystander are temporarily increased in quality!

You blink in surprise as Sumiya suddenly begins to glow with a golden light, the red areas around her turning slowly to gold. She suddenly gives a shout of surprise.

"W-What!? This shipment….a food vendor in a nearby city wants to be my primary supplier, and is giving me good prices! And this one…the bastards who were overcharging me are going bankrupt, and are offering lower prices if I buy in bulk…assholes, these prices are still higher than normal! Go live on the streets, you scum! Gyahahaha!"

She laughs in triumph, and you smile happily.

"Good job, Shooting Star! This mission was a resounding success!"

[X] Ask Shooting Star to find someone who knows more about the two towns.
-[X] Get as much information as possible.

You turn to Shooting Star as you exit the saloon, ready to tackle the last plan of the day.

"Shooting Star, can you find someone who knows about Neb and Riga? I'd like more information on the towns if possible…"

Shooting Star nods, and a trail of golden light appears to guide you to your destination. You turn to study her curiously.

"Why didn't you do that before? You flew to destinations ahead of me, and left a dust trail instead…"

Shooting Star shrugs, gesturing at the town with a smile.

"Oh, you just wanted to sightsee…wait, you move at the speed of light! How did you not finish that sooner?"

Shooting Star remains oddly silent on your shoulder. You turn to look at her, and blink in surprise as you realize she's gone.

"…Cheater."

In any case, you walk towards the end of the path, noting that the scenery seems to be getting more and more familiar the farther you walk…wait, it couldn't be—

"Oh, Nia, come by for another chat?" Roland says, sitting in a rocking chair and relaxing with a drink.

You nod, giving him a friendly smile. "Hello, Mr.Roland. I was wondering if you knew anything about Neb and Riga."

Roland blinks in surprise, sitting up slightly. "Oh? Why do you need to know about them?"

You tell him the same story you told Sumiya; Jirou gave you a job, in exchange you get to go home.

"…and I was wondering if you could help me decide what town to go to first, since I don't know much about the towns…"

Roland nods, cupping his chin in thought. "Mmm, well, I can definitely help you out a bit. I was recently in Neb on a business trip, and I've gone to Riga to visit family before—my idiot of a brother, Thomas, has a thrift store there. Anyways, the major thing you need to know about both towns is that right now they aren't exactly the safest places to be."

You tilt your head in confusion, so Roland elaborates. "Riga is full of people looking to scam new arrivals, or mug them. Crime is a common thing there, and the police get bribed more than they get paid. Going there means you can definitely get the papers you need, and maybe find an indentured servant who could help out Jirou, I dunno. Neb…well, Neb is a good town. Honest, always friendly to strangers. Maybe that's the problem; last I was there, people were whispering about some situation with outsiders drawing the attention of vampires to the area, and it looked like civil war was about to break out. It's going to face some dark times."

You frown, considering the options. Neither one is safe, but Neb is almost certainly going to be more dangerous…on the other hand, Riga is scarcely better….

Roland speaks up, interrupting your thoughts. "Oi, Nia, I'm right here. If you need more information, just ask. I might not be able to answer, though."

You smile, and

[X] Ask Roland some questions. (Choose three.)

[X] Decide you have enough information to work with, and go do something else.
-[X] Visit Jirou.
-[X] Go talk to Sumiya again.
-[X] Go shopping for clothes.
-[X] Go shopping for weapons.
-[X] Go shopping for extra supplies of some kind.
-[X] Continue experimentation! (Specify, you mad dogs.)

I'll be busy writing the update for KH: V, so it'll be a bit before I can answer questions.

Argh, meant for this to be part of the update.

Wiseup!

Shooting Star:

Abilities:
Super Luck: +5 bonus to all rolls, +20 if you surge. Surge loses bonus for the rest of the day. Super Luck also provides special events, and rules out worst case scenarios.

  • Through experimentation, you have discovered Good Luck and Bad Luck Areas! These areas can influence the outcome of events, should Nia utilize them properly. A Good Luck Area will increase Nia's luck, causing events to go in her favor. A Bad Luck Area may be struck for better damage. Also, Super Luck may be surged on other people, and surging increases the quality of nearby Lucky Areas by one stage! Classifications of areas are as follows:
  • Strong Areas, which result in an automatic critical. These are rarer than you'd think from the update, and are hard to find.
  • Areas, which result in an automatic success. At your current level of proficiency with Super Luck, these are also a bit rare.
  • Weak Areas, which result in a +modifier. These are the most common at the moment.
North Star: Shooting Star can find anything. Anything that your heart desires, Shooting Star may locate and guide you to. Shooting Star refuses to guide you to targets that are too much of a threat.
  • Through experimentation, you have gained the ability to see through Shooting Star's eyes, greatly increasing her reconnaissance abilities.

Loosely relevant: I was listening to this song while writing the experimentation bits, which may be why things were a little silly at that point.
