Spiral Overdrive (JoJo/TTGL)

This interlude has been giving me a lot of trouble, and it didn't help that I had some studying and schoolwork to do. Thankfully, I finally finished it.

Interlude—Long Service Awakens, Part II!

The three vampires stand before the cuffed and shackled form of Kamina. Kamina, for his part, remains unfazed, glaring at the newcomers. If looks could kill…

In any case, two of the vampires seem to be getting a little twitchy. You quickly draw the Red Stone gun you, er, liberated from the elder's quarters, and aim shakily at the vampires. Maybe they'll just leave…?

Suddenly, the one vampire who is remaining completely still speaks.

"You are the tribute for this season? Odd for them to choose a young man, for once." His tone is mildly suspicious, and surprisingly civil.

Kamina doesn't respond, continuing his glare. One of the other vampires seems to take offense at that.

"Oi, you little bastard! You speak when you're spoken to, and that goes double for Mr.Owen!"

The quieter vampire—Mr.Owen, apparently—raises a hand, gesturing for silence. His companion backs off reluctantly, allowing Mr.Owen to take the lead.

"Well, as you can tell, my men and I are here to retrieve the Giha Village seasonal protection fee. But, first, let us test something…"

He reaches into his coat, and pulls out an odd pendant, raising it in front of Kamina, who begins to look confused. The man hands the pendant to his other companion.

"Test him for a reaction. To keep the test accurate, I'll be waiting a ways outside town. Do not attempt to harm the target or 'test' him physically. If you do, I am the least of your worries." He orders, beginning a slow walk away from the other two.

The two vampires nod hurriedly, the one with the pendant stepping a bit closer to Kamina. You tense, holding your breath as you line the sights up with the vampire. You don't know what this 'test' is, but now is as good a time as any to strike.

At least, it would be, if you didn't hear a voice behind you.

"Hello, young man. I see you have something dangerous in your hands."

You freeze in terror as a hand clamps down on your shoulder, preventing you from running.

How the hell did he get behind you!? You had just seen him walk away in the opposite direction—

The vampire effortlessly hauls you up, and tosses you into the open, where his two friends are still huddled around Kamina. You drop your gun in the process.

"Oh, another one."

Mr.Owen nods, looking slightly amused. "Hiding behind baskets, about to shoot one of you with a Red Stone gun. You're lucky I caught him, or else one of you might have been reduced to slush."

One of the two winces. "Red Stone, huh? I hear one of the guards from Teppelin got hit pretty bad with one of those. Had to get a new body, since his ribcage kept melting whenever he tried to regenerate it…"

While the vampire rambles, you desperately look around for your gun. You spot it; just a few meters to your right, but in the time it would take to reach it…

Owen's voice is sharp as he gets the two bloodsuckers back on task. "We're not here to chat. Do the test again, I'll be at the edge of town."

The vampire with the pendant nods, and Owen suddenly…disappears?

Teleportation? Is that a vampire power? You're really screwed if that's true…

The vampire with the pendant raises it in front of Kamina, focusing entirely on the strange stone hanging from the chain. It looks a bit like an arrowhead, and you can barely make out some kind of carving on it. Some kind of….insect?

The pendant suddenly jerks towards Kamina violently, causing its holder to stumble forwards a bit. "W-woah! We've got a—"

Whatever they have is interrupted by Kamina's skull crashing into the vampire's nose, causing him to get knocked back. His friend starts forward, furious.

"You son of a bitch! I'll beat you into the ground for that, Stand or no Stand!"

You don't hesitate. You dash wildly for the gun, the vampires focused on Kamina for the moment. You pick it up, fumbling with the grip as you hear a meaty thump from behind you, and a choking sound. You whirl around, finger on the trigger as you see one of the vampires beginning to thrust his fingers through Kamina's neck!

You fire, a brilliant gold bolt of light sent rushing from the barrel of your gun. The projectile collides with the vampire's back, causing it to melt from the heat!

"GYAAAH!" the vampire screams in pain, dropping Kamina. His partner, however, is heading straight for you! You raise the gun as fast as possible, finger twitching and sending another bolt of energy straight through your opponent's leg!

The vampire gives a roar of pain, and collapses, his leg all but useless. You aim at his head, hands shaking wildly, and you hear Kamina shout off in the distance.

"FINISH HIM, SIMON!"

You don't need to be told twice! You send another bolt of energy at the downed vampire, ending its life as the energy of the sun melts its brain!

You pant wildly, adrenaline coursing through your veins. You turn back to the first vampire you shot, but it seems he has fled in the commotion.

Wait, where's Kamina?

A hand clamps down on your shoulder, and you whirl around, gun raised to end the new threat—

"Woah, Simon! Check your fire, I'm friendly!" Kamina shouts, grabbing the barrel of your handgun.

You relax, and collapse onto the ground from exhaustion.

"Bro….you're alive…..good."

Kamina grins at you. "Better than that, we scared off those bloodsuckers, and got one! Man, what a rush!"

You stare at him. "Are you crazy!? We almost got killed!"

Kamina's grin widens. "I know! But, we won, Simon! Better than that, you won!" he says, pointing at you.

"I…did?" you say, mind catching up with what you just did.

Kamina nods proudly. "Yep! As expected of my little brother! You helped me show those vampires what they can expect from humanity!"

You feel heat rise into your cheeks. "A-ah….I didn't really do anything special. Anyone could have beaten these guys with a Red Stone gun."

Kamina just grins. "But you were the one who did, Simon. Don't forget that."

You stare at him, a little surprised that he actually said something profound instead of something goofy for once. You feel a little proud, actually, a warm feeling of happiness rising in your chest. You smile brightly at him, before a bored voice rings out and crushes your relief.

"My, my. I leave for a minute and these two go and get themselves killed by a rookie. Honestly, the standards for vampirism these days…" Owen says, hand already clenching your arm tightly.

You pale dramatically, but Kamina is faster to react. He immediately throws a punch at Owen, who tilts his head to the side to avoid the blow. Some kind of invisible force strikes Kamina in the same instant, knocking him flat on his back. You try to wrench your arm from Owen's grasp, but he simply—

Snap.

—ah.

You gasp, holding back a scream. Owen looks rather irritated as he lets your now useless arm drop, fingers still desperately clenching the Red Stone gun.

"Really now, look what you went and made me do. Breaking bones is wasteful, you know; it takes a while to heal, and in the meantime your limb is completely useless. In addition, depending on how clean the break is, you might suffer from some permanent damage! I should know; back in my human days, I was quite the brawler."

You're barely paying attention to what he's saying. He broke your right arm, the one that was holding the gun. You could swap hands and try to kill him now, but right now it would be for the best if you—

Owen casually backhands you, sending you sprawling. "Apologies, but you don't honestly expect me to sit here and let you plan, do you? In any case, let's complete the test on you and your friend. I'm in no mood to keep track of two prisoners, so I think I'll judge the two of you by your Stands. The more interesting one will come with me, the other one will have his legs torn off."

You shakily raise your gun as Owen leans down to pick up the pendant, but he simply reaches out and twists the barrel in a casual display of inhuman strength. You gulp nervously as he gets back up, giving you an amused look. He wordlessly turns to where Kamina is struggling with something, thrashing about and casting up small clouds of dirt. He quickly throws the pendant at Kamina, the arrowhead seeming to actually curve towards him!

Kamina gives a shout of pain as the arrow collides with his back, and falls still. Your heart fills with dread, and you cry out in despair as Owen wrenches the arrowhead from Kamina's body.

"KAMINA! YOU BASTARD, I'LL—"

Owen shuts you up by hurling the arrowhead at you next! You roll to the side, trying to think of how you can fight him—

The arrow sinks into your arm, curving impossibly in the air to hit you. You gasp.

A strange sensation
courses through your body. It feels, for an instant, like you have a power that is the basis of life—A Ripple that envelops your entire body, filling you with great strength—

The Arrowhead seems to reach into your body with cold hands, gathering up the energy and wrenching it free! Your body feels like it is on fire, and you writhe helplessly as it grasps the golden Ripple, twisting and shaping it—

Bizarre sensations course through your body, as if the Arrowhead is searching for something while stealing from you. You feel it study your cowardice, your weakness, your failure—

But it also studies things you never knew you had. The years of hard work drilling for treasure, the quiet loyalty you've always had for Kamina, the willpower required to not just give up when your parents died—

Simon the Digger, your efforts are recognized. After much deliberation, we have judged you worthy of bearing the power of a Stand! Your partner in all things will reflect your great strength of will, and your years of admirable service for your village! Child of man, well done!

Abruptly, the pain stops, and your head clears.

You climb to your feet slowly, feeling increasingly better. Somehow, you can see from two perspectives now. You can see the villagers staring in shock and relief from their hiding places as you get back up. You can see Kamina's chest rise and fall, showing that he still lives. And you can see two enemies before you.

Owen stares at you in mild shock. "…Amazing. I've never seen anyone recover from being struck with an Arrow that fast. And with such an impressive looking Stand, already under your control! Tell me, boy, what is your name?"

You ignore him for a moment, focusing on the figure behind him.

A tall and thin figure, wearing a robe covered in thousands of tiny equations and numbers, and colored black. Their face is obscured by a blank white mask with a large "6" on it. Behind you, you suddenly hear knuckles cracking, and whirl around to face the newcomer.

A huge white knight stands behind you, clad in heavy armor with a white cape. He radiates cool strength and conviction, and has his fists raised and ready for combat. You feel a slow smile spread across your face as you turn back to face Owen.

"I am Simon the Digger, of Giha Village. What is a Stand?"

Owen nods slowly. "A Stand is a spirit that 'stands' by its user and wields great power. I am James Owen, of Teppelin City. My Stand is Black Math! Let us see what your Stand can do, Simon the Digger!"

With that, the robed figure seems to simply appear in front of you, hand lashing out with enough force to break your neck—

The white knight, your Stand, intercepts the blow by grabbing Black Math's arm! With a mighty cry, it jerks the Stand towards it and smashes it's fist into its face, sending the spirit flying back! Owen's nose suddenly shatters, sending blood splattering onto the ground and jerking him back. So a Stand is linked to its user by its health as well, then…

Owen grimaces and holds his nose with one hand, giving your stand a cautious glance.

"Great strength, probably around B-A scale depending on the upper limit. Fast reaction speed, reacts to threats on user's life. No apparent special abilities, but let's test that…Black Math, again!"

You stumble backwards as Black Math appears in front of you again, this time lashing out with a punch. Your Stand immediately blocks the attack, and sends another heavy punch flying for the spirit's gut—

"Divide by Zero."

But the blow slides off harmlessly, not even pushing back the thin spirit! Black math seems to laugh silently, and begins trading blows with the white knight. But all of your Stand's blows seem to be completely ineffective, while Black Math lands a flurry of light blows, completely ignoring defense!

You wince as small stings of pain flare on your arms while the white knight suffers. Owen studies you intently.

"Good durability, but nothing exceptional. B, most likely. Your Stand seems awfully boring so far, Simon. I hope it has a trick to save your life, or I'll be taking my chances with your friend…"

You glare at him, righteous anger in your voice as you yell. "Screw you, bastard! I'll beat you into the ground if you even try to touch my Bro!"

With that, the white knight's eyes flare a bright green, and it shoves Black Math away from it. Owen frowns at the contact. "How did it break past Divide by Zero? Is it an ability? But what could…"

You tune him out as you focus on your Stand. "You! Lend me your strength, and we can beat these guys! I need you to stick by me, until the end of time! Therefore, I'll name you Long Service! GO!"

Long Service gives a roar of approval, and his arms begin to shine with a bright green light that grows to a blinding intensity! When the light dies down, several green drills are placed along the knuckles of his gauntlets! Owen seems surprised by it's actions.

"Some kind of evolutionary ability? Interesting. Black Math, strike now! Divide by Zero!"

The Stand teleports in front of you, ready to strike once more. The equations on its robe shine as Long Service closes in, but it begins to strike, confident in its defense! Long Service seems to almost grin as it's fist crashes straight into Black Math, interrupting its attack and causing Owen to gasp in pain!

"What the…"

Long Service begins a brutal series of blows, giving Black Math no chance to counter! It bellows in triumph with every blow, and Owen's body shows increasingly severe bruises and broken bones! You shout as Owen collapses to his knees!

"Now, Long Service!"

But, Owen retaliates!

"Black Math, retreat! Exponential Growth!"

An impossible distance appears between Long Service and Black Math, sparing Owen from your assault! Owen begins to stumble away from the two of you, equations flaring on Black Math's robes as the distance grows wider with every step he takes!

"Long Service, chase after him!"

The white knight grunts in approval as it begins rushing forward, but the two of you seem to be incapable of closing in! Owen laughs harshly from where he is.

"It's useless! With Exponential Growth, I can increase the distance between us as much as I'd like! And now, with Divide by Zero, I can—"

Kamina grabs his leg, causing him to trip and fall. You stare in surprise as Kamina slowly climbs to his feet, a stoic expression on his face.

"Bastard….first you come into my village, then you break my ribs and stab me with an arrow, and then you have the nerve to ignore me! And now you're trying to run away!? Unacceptable!"

A samurai with a flaming sword appears behind him, a fierce demon painted on its chestplate and helmet!

"You idiot! Let me go, I don't have the time to—" Owen is interrupted by Kamina's Stand striking at him with it's blade!

"Divide by Zero!"

The blow is stopped millimeters from his flesh, but the heat still sears his skin! He roars and begins to crawl away as best he can—

Long Service sends a glowing green drill-tipped spear through his leg, trapping him!

"You…you caught up!? Shit, I ended Exponential Growth!"

Kamina laughs in triumph as you catch up to Long Service.

"That's right, you fool! I am Kamina, the man who will defeat your stupid king! And this is Simon, my brother in arms! The ones who will judge you are our Stands! Go, Gurren! Crimson Flame Emperor's Super Blade of Victory!"

"Long Service,
finish him!"

Long Service and Gurren close in on Black Math and Owen respectively, each delivering a storm of blows!

"ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAOR ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORA ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORA—!"

"MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA—!"

Owen and Black Math roar in pain as Gurren slices him to pieces and Long Service pummels the spirit into dust!

"...impossible….how…could…a human…?"

You glare at Owen's burning corpse as Kamina speaks. "It's not despite us being human, it's because of it! We'll tear you bloodsuckers apart, with the powers of Stands!"

And so, the Gurren Brigade was formed.
_______________________________________

And it's done! 3000 words of pure Simon and Kamina fight, with Kamina swooping in to secure the kill!

I'll post the Stand Stats and what is currently known about their abilities later. Black Math was named for the song 'Black Math' by the White Stripes. I have an essay to go write, so I'll be back in a bit! Ciao~!

A brief note: Long Service's appearance is based off of Incursio from Akame Ga Kill.

Simon the Digger, your efforts are recognized. After much deliberation, we have judged you worthy of bearing the power of a Stand! Your partner in all things will reflect your great strength of will, and your years of admirable service for your village! Child of man, well done!
For those on phones that can't highlight the hora.

Also, YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Also also, note that there is a big ol' chunk of invisitext in the middle of this, meant to show that Simon didn't hear what was said. I'll highlight it for those of you on mobile or otherwise inconvenienced.

EDIT: Ninja'd!

Not bad.

Not bad at all.

Although the invisitext is curious. I don't recall Stand Arrows deciding stuff by committee.

Interesting

Long Service:

Destructive Power: A
Range: D
Durability: B
Precision: B
Development Potential: A

Abilities:

[REDACTED]

Experienced Worker: Long Service, while incapable of utilizing any skills Simon has not learned, can use the skills he does possess with amplified effectiveness. In addition, it is capable of utilizing Spiral Energy instinctively, and with great skill. However, it's capacity is dependent on Simon's own reserves of Spiral Energy.

Gurren:

Destructive Power: A
Range: B
Durability: C
Precision: C
Development Potential: A

Abilities:

[REDACTED]

Fire Blade Mastery: Gurren is exceptionally skilled with it's sword, capable of performing insane feats of swordsmanship. This skill carries over to Kamina, though it is somewhat muted and within the realm of human skill. Kamina often names his attacks something grand, but at the moment they are all linked to this skill.

Black Math:

Destructive Power: C
Range: A
Durability: C
Precision: A
Development Potential: D

Abilities:

Divide by Zero: Black Math can set 'values' around it and Owen to zero. This is used to great effect by Owen; he uses it to teleport, setting the distance between him and his goal to zero, to defend against attacks by reducing their force to zero, and a number of more mundane uses. However, in the case of guarding, Black Math is limited by it's ability to handle only one 'value' at a time. Therefore, an attack with multiple properties, like Gurren's flaming sword, can still damage Owen and Black Math.

Exponential Growth: Black Math can increase these values as well, but Owen had neglected this ability in favor of Divide by Zero, rendering it very difficult for him to apply this ability to his attacks. Had he been able to do so, he might have been able to crush Long Service. As is, Owen mainly uses this ability to buy him time by increasing the distance between him and the target.

Addendum: Long Service was capable of breaking through Divide by Zero because of it's use of Spiral Energy, which ignores or flat out rewrites the laws of physics to suit it's needs. Owen was unaware of this, and thought it a unique ability.

Oh my god that was hnnnnng, fuck your shit Owen get fucked!

This skill carries over to Kamina, though it is somewhat muted and within the realm of human skill. Kamina often names his attacks something grand, but at the moment they are all linked to this skill.

Note the most important facets of that skill:

1) It carries over to Kamina

2) It's very likely improvable given Developmental Potential: A and the fact that Stand abilities have already been confirmed to improve with practice in this setting.

Essentially, what this means is that while the Supernaturally Skilled Flaming Sword Using Stand is chasing your Stand around keeping it occupied with that annoyingly high B ranked Range, you have an extroardinarily skilled, hot blooded, and dumb swordsman chasing your ass down and preparing to chop you the hell up.

If Kamina ever learns the Ripple, then the vampires in Teppelin are going to start shitting bricks

Addendum: Long Service was capable of breaking through Divide by Zero because of it's use of Spiral Energy, which ignores or flat out rewrites the laws of physics to suit it's needs. Owen was unaware of this, and thought it a unique ability.
*notes that the village wasn't destroyed*
*grumbles*
On another note - do Kamina and Simon have the arrow now?
counteracted by the fact that Kamina is not a clever man
I disagree - Kamina is very intelligent. He learns incredibly quickly, and was a decent strategist when it came to it. It just so happens that he was aware that anything he could ever do was far eclipsed by Simon's potential - and the best way to get Simon motivated was to go full hot-blood.

I SAID I WAS SORRY OKAY

Anyways, yeah they totally have a way of giving everyone supernatural powers and haven't the foggiest of how it works. I gave Kamina the tools to make an army! What have I done!?

UNFORGIVABLE!

UNFORGIVABLE!!!!!

But in all seriousness, you basically gave Kamina the equivalent tools to do what he did in canon

Only sans the busty sniper fanservice and unambiguously gay blue haired dude to act as an infodump

Now how to get Nia to meet up with them as soon as this interlude ends...
