Souls of Beyond, Returned to Protect (Kantai Collection) (Still Open to Submission)

Okay just posted IC, I did it with the notion that a couple of days have passed since the Abyssals attack on the base. let me know if that is wrong. I can't type anymore, will finish their meeting tomorrow.

@TheMaskedReader

So in case you haven't seen which is likely, the plan that i've cooked up is to use both Haida and Eskimo as a distraction to draw the majority of the enemy destroyers into a firefight.

Whilst it'll be 7 to 1 odds in a conventional battle, both Haida and Eskimo are designed as Tribals to fight other destroyers and have gained reputations as being very good at killing them during the war (Haida in particular has a massive kill count). Furthermore, we will be using kiting and harassment tactics to ensure as much time as possible is spent with the destroyers away from the main fight, as our major weakness as a fleet right now seems to be torps.

We have very good anti ship and anti air capabilities, however if the enemy destroyers and subs manage to inflict too much damage via torps they might weaken us enough for their main force to capitalise. By using such a small but effective anti-destroyer force as a distraction we use little resource to tie up a huge chunk of their number, allowing for greater effectiveness vs the rest of their fleet.

Therefore our advantage is twofold; They'll have less escorts in place to shield their fleet from our superior air-force, and they'll also have less torps available to throw at the large, slow moving targets which make up the majority of our force. Further the plan that i'm proposing is our least resource intensive method of achieving this effect.

We won't be recklessly throwing our lives away since we'll use self preservation tactics whenever possible in order to ensure this situation becomes drawn out and the trap completed, though even if we keep them occupied for a short while or a number of them escape, we will still have provided a good window with which to mop up the rest of the fleet without escorts there to protect them/harass our own forces.

I believe that since we Tribals are uniquely able to capitalise on our greater armaments in ship to ship combat, we're in a position to do high damage to a portion of their fleet despite little strategic resource being allocated.

So I don't think this has been posted here yet for some reason, but here is a Google Doc to help keep track of the various players and their ships (as well as the old players):
Souls of Beyond, Returned to Protect Player Information

And here is a Google Sheet that lists the weapons that will be made available as time goes on:
Weapon Tiers

@Lt Darkhound is the one who came up with this, so I'm just going to quote what he said about it elsewhere:
Lt Darkhound said:
The system for conducting ship refits has been finalized. It will work as such:

Equipment shall be divided into 4 tiers, based on how effective the equipment was. After a given number of missions, the next tier of an item will unlock, though unlock rate is different for different types of equipment.

Any equipment unlocked is available to the whole fleet, and any ship can go into drydock for a given number of ingame days to have equipment refitted onto them. More and/or heavier equipment will take longer to refit on. If your ship could mount an equipment type, it can mount any equipment of that type, regardless of if the equipment wouldn't realistically work on that ship.

Unlocking equipment happens as such; equipment that a character already has ingame, say the 16" guns mounted on Massachusetts, are more readily available for reconstruction, and will be unlocked sooner than equipment that player characters don't have, like the 18" guns of the Yamato class.

Light AA, Medium AA, Torpedoes, and Planes are unlocked at a rate of 1 Tier every mission, while Main Battery, Secondary Battery, Heavy AA, and Radar/GFCS are unlocked at a rate of 1 Tier every 2 missions. Once the fourth tier has been unlocked of current equipment, this will reset for equipment we don't have.

Due to some discussion and me just having zero inspiration, I'm going to be dropping, at least temporarily.

Aww. I hope you'll manage to get inspired enough to return in the future.

In light of this, Wales is going to be excluded from the current battle and after that she'll be reassigned like she requested IC earlier (at least until Darkhound returns).

Character Sheet (HMS Bismarck) (Out)
Name: HMS Bismarck "Bisko"

Ship Class: Bismarck-class fast battleship (modified)

Appearance:

Except wearing a Royal Navy themed uniform and trousers.

Personality: Bismarck is a shy lass, going to the distance of attempting to hide from her peers. At the same time, she's a workaholic, and will not stop until whatever she is working on or doing is done.

Quirks: Bismarck is absolutely terrified of her contemporary battleships, knowing full well that she is inferior to most all of them.

History: Bismarck was commissioned into the Kreigsmarine August 24, 1940, and did many exercises in the Baltic Sea until she set out with Prinz Eugen to conduct Operation Rheinubung. She sank the HMS Hood at the Denmark Strait, and severely damaged the HMS Prince of Wales. The next few days were a flurry of activity as the entire Royal Navy bore down upon her.

On May 27, 1941, Bismarck was engaged in close combat by the battleships Rodney and King George V. Bismarck sank the Rodney with a magazine detonation, similarly to Hood, and was summarily shot to shit by George and her cruiser consorts Norfolk and Dorsetshire. At the height of the battle, Norfolk accidentally rammed the Bismarck, and her captain conducted boarding operations to secure and capture the burning battleship. The Norfolk and Dorsetshire worked in tandem to tow the derelict battleship to Portsmouth, where she was made seaworthy before being sent across the Atlantic to America to be refitted.

A year and a half later, in early November of 1943, Bismarck was commissioned into the Royal Navy as the HMS Bismarck, and assigned to convoy escort duty in the Arctic. Bismarck participated in the Battle of the North Cape, where she sank the German raider Scharnhorst before the raider could escape from the HMS Duke of York. Bismarck would continue to escort convoys in the Arctic until June 1944, when she was sent into the yards to receive additional AA weaponry in preparation of her joining the fleet headed towards the Pacific.

Bismarck arrived in the Pacific alongside the HMS Anson, and was present for the surrender of the Japanese troops occupying Hong Kong. She saw no further combat in the War. At the end of the war, Bismarck was put into the mothball fleet. In 1960, Bismarck was offered to West Germany to serve as their flagship, but the Germans refused, and Bismarck was sold for scrap later that year.

While in the American yards, Bismarck was given an extensive armament refit. Her main battery was left unchanged, except modified to handle British 15" shells. Her secondary battery of 5.9" guns was replaced by a British 5.25" DP mounts. Her AA was refitted to be 8 octuple 40mm Pom-Pom mounts and 6 quad 40mm Pom-Pom mounts. In addition, she was given a pair of Mark 37 fire directors to replace her shitty German ones. The refit was concluded by giving Bismarck a pair of British radars.

The 1944 refit gave Bismarck an additional twenty 20mm Oerlikon light AA guns.

Rant about bisco is in the spoiler bit dont take offense please nor change anything you dont want to. Just had to say it as a warship nerd and historian, also thanks for the approval cant wait to rp a more active kantai rp i'll invite my rp group to see if they want to join (ive been running a small discord kc rp for the last two years so we have a little group that might join)
Bismarck is inferior to exactly 19 battleships 13 usn ships (4 iowa 2 north carolina, 4 south dakota, and the Colorado class of 3 ships) 2 royal navy ships (rodney class) and 4 japanese ships (2 yamato class and 2 nagato class) thats out of the 86 total battleships that fought or simply existed in fighting condition during ww2 every thing else bisco was either better than or equal to thats 66 battleships that bismarck could either sink or severely damage before dis engaging for repairs, so as arrogant as this sounds. I dont buy that quirk at all. But do your thing i just had to get this off my chest because it didt make sense to me

Character Sheet (HMS Hood)
I may have been inspired by a battlecruiser discussion to bring in this one instead of reusing Taihou. Oh, and narrative-wise, we do have Wales, Eugen, and the two Bismarcks above, after all...

Name/Alias: Samantha "Sam" Hood

Ship Class: Admiral-class battlecruiser

Ship Name: HMS Hood

Appearance:

Personality: On the outside, she has the image of being like refined nobility, as in stiff upper lip, ladylike manners, politeness and such. On the inside, she's more of a shrinking violet, not the best in terms of self-confidence, but is willing to help others if able. All of a sudden, she's now someone who was the pride of the Royal Navy, and, well, that's a lot to take in...

In PMMM terms, one could probably think of her as a mix of Mami and Madoka. In GuP terms, one could probably think of her as a shy version of Darjeeling.

While she treats the battle at Denmark Strait as a failure on her part, it is but that, a single failure, one that she intends to rise above. She also holds little ill will towards Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, for they were on opposite sides, doing their job. She just happened to be outfought that day, and resolves to be better and more prepared this time around.

Lastly, she remembers what her modernization was supposed to be like, before the war forced her nation to keep her on active duty. As soon as it is available, she would request for a similar refit, modified to better suit her needs, for she is well aware of her shortcomings in comparison to her younger, better-designed peers.

Quirks: She's somehow able to get a spot of tea anytime, anywhere. If she's feeling particularly confident, relaxed, or nervous, one could see her taking tea even while shooting at enemies. Also, casual danger dialogue can be a thing, though she sometimes uses that to hide her fears and worries.

Bio: She had recently graduated from secondary school and was considering which university to attend, though degree-wise, she was leaning towards marine engineering. While on vacation with her family at a cruise, she went to sleep one night and somehow ended up as the spirit of HMS Hood the next day. While she was told that she died, she found it hard to believe.

History:
  • Was the biggest and one of the most powerful ships of her day. Even twenty years later, she kept that distinction and was nicknamed "Mighty Hood" symbolizing the strength of the British Empire.
  • Commissioned in between the World Wars, she was the flagship of the Battlecruiser Squadron, and went on a cruise around the world, carrying the flag and showing off the might of her nation to the rest of the empire.
  • She also joined various exercises, smaller cruises, fleet reviews, and such. As one of the few fast capital ships in the Royal Navy, and the most combat-ready one at that, she was very much sailing at sea whenever possible. This also meant less time for refits and maintenance, though.
  • At the outbreak of World War 2, she patrolled the waters off Iceland and the Faroe Island to escort convoys and guard against German commerce raiders and blockade runners.
  • She joined the Home Fleet to cover the return of damaged submarine Spearfish. Along the way home, she took a bomb from a Ju 88 bomber and suffered damage to her torpedo bulge and condensers.
  • Along with Ark Royal, she joined Force H as its flagship and wrecked the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir. While it was to prevent the French ships at port from falling into enemy hands, as a sign of Britain's resolve to continue the fight against Germany, it's an action that haunts her to this day.
  • She was then sent to Scapa Flow, and from there, patrolled the surrounding waters in case of German commerce raiders and invasion fleets. Her continuing active service prevented her from receiving adequate repairs nor refits.
  • Lastly, she sailed with Prince of Wales and other ships to intercept incoming German commerce raiders. In what was to be her last sortie, she and Wales encountered Germany's new battleship, Bismarck, and her escort, Prinz Eugen, at the Denmark Strait.
  • Theories differ as to how, exactly, she was sunk, but generally, she took hits from Bismarck's fifth salvo, and ended up with exploding magazines. Her keel broken from the blast, she sank stern-first in three minutes, leaving only three of her 1418 men as survivors.

Likes: Reading, video games, traveling, well-brewed tea, good manners

Dislikes: Stressful situations, badly done tea, hatred, attention, being treated as a battleship or cruiser instead of a battlecruiser

A point of contention, but you're missing ten ships from your list. The three Littorios of the Italian Regia Marina, which are roughly equivalent in speed, and have better protection and firepower (if not for really bad shell quality control). The two Richelieu-class from the French Navy, which were of similar speed and armament, while being better protected. And the five KGV-class battleships of the RN, which while slower, had better guns, fire directors that didn't shake themselves apart, and much better protection. Prince of Wales' performance at Denmark Strait is not indicative of the KGV's performance because at the time, she had yet to complete her working up.

fair enough, i only counted the 16in and greater armed ships due to bismarck's unusual toughness for armor weight (as far as I've read not one shell penetrated the belt ) and i didn't think a 14in gunned ship would do the trick to penetrate the armor and most couldn't even keep up with Bismarck to fight her (Kongo and the KGV's being the exceptions) and assumed a draw / both lose if she fought a similarly armed ship.
the Italian navy was allied to Germany at the time Bismarck fought the rn and by the time your HMS bismarck was recommissioned the Italians where allied to Britain and their navy was sunk or otherwise useless Kgv if she had a rematch with Bismarck in say 1942 would have been able to get a draw by my books unless she maintained range and used bismarcks weak deck armor to her advantage, thanks for having a good response its been too long since I've had a nice calm debate on shipfu's

Your mistake was to assume that just because the guns are bigger, they're better. While that's mostly the case, it isn't with Bismarck.

Due to a couple of design flaws, Bismarck's fire directors got shaken apart the further into a battle they went because of the blast and recoil of her main guns. It's partly why Prinz Eugen was leading the German formation at Denmark Strait. While on approach, Bismarck had shot at the HMS Norfolk, with the blast disabling her radar. Prinz was then ordered to lead the formation because her radar was working properly. Had the fight with Hood and PoW gone longer, it's likely there would have been a noticeable decrease in Bismarck's accuracy as her directors fell apart.

Also, in addition to the ships I listed earlier, I would give the Tennessee-class battleships more than equal chances against Bismarck, since they were essentially the same design as the Colorados, except with 14" guns.

I concede the point with one exception i still really dont think the 14in guns would get theough bismarcks armor before the range closed enough that bismarcks accuracy wasn't any worse than the ship fighting her after all she did have local directors in each gun turret it was her primary range fiders and radar that where so badly damaged by her own gunfire not the older local control, on another subject i question how bismarck would feel about battlecruisers ?, due to her liking of cruisers but disliking of battleships

@Shotbywolf
I think you missed my post, or didn't get my intent. Please change your 3in/50 mk33 guns to something that was used on ships in the WWII time period, I mis-approved that.
