Sorcerer Itinerant (A Mage Errant Quest)

Should tie-breakers be determined via dice rolls or waiting for additional posts?

So, would bookworm be the best in learning new techniques for spellforms, glyphs and the like from books?

Bookworm will give a bonus towards studying, yes. Actually practicing with those spellforms? Not so much. But learning, definitely.

I'd be totally happy with average appearances bonus, just want to change the looks a bit.

You're free to alter the 'Average Appearance' if you'd like in a write-in. I'd be willing to swap the bonus over.

[X] - A refined appearance. You take good care of your hair and face, applying whatever cosmetics you can get your hands on. You've got a thin, angular face crowned by a fairly fluffy and long set of black hair. Taming such an unruly beast is difficult, but well worth the effort. You also tend to wear better clothes than the common rabble, your family being able to afford well tailored dresses. [+1d6 when dealing with nobles and individuals who care about such things.]
[X] - An average appearance. You're just a normal girl, putting in the right amount of effort. While not unattractive, you're best considered plain with a button-nose and somewhat round cheeks. A medium-length curtain of hair runs down your back, smoothed and simple. You don't have a preference over dresses or work clothes. [+1d6 when interacting with common folk. It's easier for them to get along with you.]
    [X] - An average appearance
    [X] - A book-wormish appearance.
[X] - Write-ins: Pretty n practical. Brown hair falls over you shoulder, smoothed with de-spiralling, when needed a finger-width of hair is spiralled around the rest above the tip to tie them into a ponytail. You favor simple, well made dresses, which include little hidden textile strips that can be spiral-knotted with their higher up counterpart to shorten the dress when its full length is inconveniet (also: proper pockets!) [X] [Intrigue Pool] - 5d6. You're a natural savant when it comes to speaking to others. Talking is often your best way forward, and you know how to navigate social situations well.
    [X] [Intrigue Pool] - 4d6
    [x] [Intrigue Pool] - 3d6

Voting's closed! We've got a few things to go over. First off, there are three votes for refined. Three more are for average, making it a tie. Since there's a write-in for an average-based appearance that would otherwise bump it up to 4, I think I'll put another vote in.

[] - An average appearance.
[] - A refined appearance.

On the chance that average appearance is chosen please also vote for it as well.

[] - QM's appearance. (You're just a normal girl, putting in the right amount of effort. While not unattractive, you're best considered plain with a button-nose and somewhat round cheeks. A medium-length curtain of hair runs down your back, smoothed and simple. You don't have a preference over dresses or work clothes. )
[] - Write-in appearance. (Pretty n practical. Brown hair falls over you shoulder, smoothed with de-spiraling, when needed a finger-width of hair is spiraled around the rest above the tip to tie them into a ponytail. You favor simple, well made dresses, which include little hidden textile strips that can be spiral-knotted with their higher up counterpart to shorten the dress when its full length is inconvenient (also: proper pockets!)

As for the second option, 5d6 Intrigue takes the cake at 5 votes! I'll close the voting tonight and then put up the post.
Edit: Tomorrow, actually. Got too busy tonight.

Works best with our affinities.

Edit: Toboe convinced me to choose one, and refined is slightly better with Sight Affinity taken into consideration for the mentality she currently has.

As you are voting currently its "If its practical I want the write-in Version, but i don't care If its average or refined appearance", is that what you mean?
(If you want average and specifically the write-in version you'd vote both:
[] - An average appearance.
[] - Write-in appearance
)

[X] [Appearance] - You look and strange and OWN it. Your hair is well looked after but some is stylized to look like cat ears, any thing you use to tie your is is always made to look spirally, your were like this ever since you were 6, individuality All the way!
[X] [Intrigue Pool] - 4d6. You can be calm but more often then not your personality exhausts others.
Vote was closed and now its just tie-breaker on appearance.

How does sight affinity combine with refined?
Being afraid to be seen imperfect?

If its that I'd much rather avoid it by being a confident average appearance.
It's simple, if you've ever seen.. a particular kind of manga, which I'm basing it off of. Noble ladies, tend to be alert to eyes on them, as they navigate the social politicking of higher classes. Simple right? They're more aware of others perceptions of them, which fits well with sight affinity.

Huh. Since goable removed their vote for average/write-in, that means that Refined Appearance wins. Voting's closed, my post will be up soon-ish. Nia Nya is a fancy gal.

Ah, got what you mean.
Makes sense, but plays into parts of refined/nobility I don't really like.

Isn't it tied again?
3 vs 3, with worm full text voting for write in, rather than name only.

3 people have voted [X] - An average appearance.
VS

3 people have voted [X] - A refined appearance.

I wasn't referring to a specific manga, but a general trend in some of them specifically manga where female social politicking is important.

It's not like Charisma was my first choice, but I keep on keeping in mind, their affinities and what makes sense for what we already know about her.

[X] - A refined appearance.
If it matters
while I can not ascribe should or should not. I can assert one thing, that it does matter, no matter how @Donk feels on the matter, they must resolve it. If they say it doesn't, and tiebreakers aren't a thing after voting is done, then we have precedent for future dealings. We'd have similar positive precedent if it does matter.

I can say I'd prefer tiebreakers over Dice rolls, dice rolls never feel good to me win or lose.

Here it was broken by die, so I think it was resolved for this case.
But the decision ultimately rests with @Donk and could also change for future votes (though it would be much better to announce such changes between votes).

For all your life, you've never had any problems blending into the crowd. Your parents own a tailoring shop, and you've always been willing to help them. Not only in trying out new dresses, but dealing with unhappy customers too. Many an unsatisfied patron has had their frustration quelled by your smiling face and calming voice.

As you step into the crowd of students, you take stock of the social climate. Many of the people here are complete strangers, but your practiced senses can already tell that groups are forming. People from the same cities tend to flock to the other. Appearances matter in situations like this as well. A natural order forms, largely with no real outliers. Extroverted people form larger gatherings, while introverted stick to ones and twos. Nobility, it seems, finds common ground here. You watch as the white-haired Highvalean gathers up her flock.

One thing that your Sight affinity has clued you in on is how to tell the difference between who is looking at you. Boys and girls tend to have different patterns. It's somewhat easy to determine whether or not a person looking at you skews towards a more masculine or feminine bent.

Gently butting into a small group of normal students, you make idle small talk. With your unassuming looks, it's not much of a challenge to make yourself at home. "It's good to be here. Going to Skyhold." You say, a smile gracing your lips. "Do any of you know what the introductory will entail? The information booklet was unfortunately lacking in details."

"I can answer that," a black-haired boy speaks, his darker skin signifying him as hailing from the Endless Erg. "My grand-dad went here. He said there'll be a speech. All the council members will be there, and the sphinx, too! Kanderon, I think's her name. She's the 'High Librarian', but everyone knows she's really in charge. Bigger than a dragon, he says. Now, I've been to Theras Tel so I doubt that."

You've heard tales of the Great Power that watches over Skyhold. The world is full of stories like hers, powerful mages who rule the numerous city-states of Ithos. Highvale is a unique circumstance, being a monarchy.

"Eh, she doesn't do anything these days. It's all old stories." Another female student says, idly levitating a small rock in her hand. "Now, Aedan Dragonslayer? He's someone to look out for. But I doubt any of us will get an apprenticeship with him, or any of the other Headmasters."

The chatting continues, with everyone sharing their affinities. It's an odd concept, Affinities. You've read about them a bit, when you first discovered yours. Everyone has at least one, but not everyone discovers it as easily. Regions tend to skew towards certain patterns, but there's always uniqueness in every generation. You own uncle has an affinity towards 'Goats'. Just goats. He'd become quite the succesful herder. It was always fun to visit his terrace farm and play with the lambs.

Before long, the official clears his throat and speaks to the crowd, cutting the chatter. "Alright, everyone. The time has come for us to enter the Great Hall. We'll be having the autumnal ceremony, and the Council will have a few words for you all. Once that's done, we'll be issuing an aptitude test to you all." Groans filled the air. "Don't worry, it won't just be words on parchment. There will be hands-on testing."

That said, he began guiding the group of teens into Skyhold proper. Glowing blue crystals light the stone halls. It's quite cavernous, and you notice a constant current of air whistling past. Busy looking wizards rush past, adorned in their flowing robes and varied caps.

Switching to robes will be a bit of a change for you, so used to dresses, but you've worn worse. Additionally, while you may not inherit the shop, you know more than your fair share of tailoring, so it won't be difficult to alter the ones provided. Traveling through Skyhold, you're taken aback by the sheer size. As you had envisioned, the place is practically a city in and of itself.

Navigating the place might prove difficult, but a multitude of signs seems to aid you in your journey. The official man seems to know the place well, easily moving through the maze of halls.

Momentarily digging into your affinity senses, you can sense the aetheric density here is high. Likely owing to the Labyrinth the school is built upon. You could cast spells for an hour and be ready for more practice after only a few minutes, so dense it is. That's one of the main reason why spellcasters flock to such places; Highvale in particular has quite the low density. Learning how to become a proper wizard requires study, and you need to keep your reserves full for that.

Arriving at the Great Hall, you're floored at the sheer scale of the place. Multiple dragons could stand head-to-tail in this space, both forwards and sideways. Its cavernous nature made you wonder if this place was natural, or hand-crafted over years by multiple stone mages working in tandem. Perhaps a mix of both.

Hundreds of mages gather here, both older students and those wizards who live here. Teachers, researchers, and businessfolk. At the end of the hall lays a raised dais, upon which are gathered numerous fancy-looking people. What really catches your eye is the creature lounging just behind them.

You've seen your fair share of non-humans. Gorgons, nagas, seafolk, and their ilk. You're no stranger to them, Highvale is not discriminating.

But looking at Kanderon activates a nervous feeling in your gut. When her cone of vision passes over you, it's almost like being the target of a cat's dinner. Her sight isn't normal, you don't think. But it passes quicker before you can dwell upon it. The entire chamber goes quiet as a man steps forwards.

Headmaster Tarik, an older gentleman, starts the congregation off. "Welcome, welcome. Thank you all for coming here. As you all know, today is the first day of Autumn." He is quite famous, an archmage of significant power. Harnessing the power of stone, he participated against Havath during their wars of expansion not so long ago, and is most known for singlehandedly raising a fortress within a week. "It is at this time that we accept new students into Skyhold. We pass down the knowledge to the next generation. Students. Be proud to have come here. For you all, I wish you the best in your years to come."

He continued on for some time, speaking to the gathered groups. Other members of the Council stepped up, their voices amplified by a nearby sound mage. You can't help but stare at the Sphinx, eyeing her feline body. Quadrupedal, with the figure of a lion, the head of a humanoid, and great wings made of glowing crystal. Beautiful, in a frightening way.

"But I've praddled on for long enough," the charismatic Aedan says, smiling at his own jest. "I'll step down before Tarik gets too annoyed. Head Librarian?"

Kanderon unfurls her paws, standing up in a titanic motion. "Very well. Students, welcome. Please do your best to learn. I entrust the knowledge of Skyhold to you. That is all." Her voice fills the room even without the help of a mage, a booming resonance.

The world is silent for a few moments before the bustle of conversation returns. The same official returns to your group and addresses your lot.

"Alright. We'll be heading for the testing chamber. First there'll be a small quiz to determine your basic knowledge. Mathematics, history, language, et cetera. Please follow me."

He leads you away from the Great Hall and you cast one last glance towards Kanderon, awe filling you. Then you're gone, down the path, and into a large classroom. Desks fill the space, and you're all guided to take a seat. Sitting down, you stare at the paper in front of you. A test. Looking at it, you're met with a fairly basic array of questions. Some are harder than the others, but you do your best to fill it out.

How good are you at your studies?

[] - [Proficiency Pool] - 4d6. Studying is a talent of yours. You didn't skimp out on books in your youth and that shows. While not the best, you're certainly a better student than most.
[] - [Proficiency Pool] - 3d6. When it comes to studying you do your best. As good as anyone else, you can say. Long and dry books still get the best of you, though. Studying isn't your strong suit.

Currently I'm going to be rolling for tie-breakers, but I suppose I can put up a poll on whether or not I should wait if there's a tie. Also, I'll be taking a few creative liberties where otherwise I can't find the information. Perhaps a few other changes, too. We'll see.
