There didn't seem to be a real thread for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise on SV, so I decided to do something about it by making one. As the title describes, this is for Sonic fanfiction brainstorming and recommending, so don't be afraid to act on it, whether it's based on the games, the comics, the animated shows, or the live action movie, I suppose. Not that the live action was bad in my opinion, I just have a weird superstition about writing fanfiction over a live action universe. I'm odd like that. :)

In any event, to start us off, I would like to present a Sonic Underground one-shot of my own: A Hedgehog's Debutant Ball: One-shot. In the world of Sonic Underground, Sonic, the ward of Lady Windermere, attends a ball in Robotropolis.

Simply put, it has Sonic have his Underground sister, Sonia's, background, instead of being adopted by a nice enough canine couple before he moves in with his surrogate Uncle Chuck. I have a slight idea of how it would go if he had Manic's childhood, but that's a story for another time.

Eggman self-insert
Over on Space Battles someone started writing a Self Insert fic set in the IDW comics, except they've taken Eggman's place at the beginning of it: I (really) Am The Eggman (Sonic IDW Self Insert)

It's only had 3 updates so far, but it looks pretty interesting, and AFAIK it's the only IDW fic I've seen with that premise.

Huh, sounds curious. Self-inserts aren't exactly my thing, though, but I suppose it's nice that someone is giving IDW Sonic some positive attention.

Since some Sonic stuff listed Bin and Pin from the old Dynamite Dux game as being related to Bean the Dynamite, I wouldn't mind a story involving that inkling of a plot.

While Archie Sonic did have a difficult time balancing its own original content with that from the games, I did have a thought of Robotnik Prime using the Veg-o Fortress (which I don't think was depicted as eventually being destroyed compared to the Pinball game) to launch a wave of expansion in Soumerca where Big's home nation as well as Station Square among other places were located at. It actually is rather odd that he knew where the latter was during his reign, but didn't try to conquer it before Operation Endgame.

I had a thought for a different version of the Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad with the following six members from both comics and cartoons alike:

1: Scratch: The Badnik that was meant to be the prototype for a series of elite Rebel Hunters (AKA Freedom Fighter Exterminators), but was a rushed job and while a capable martial artist and gunner, is only bright enough to lead low-level Badniks as well as tell convincing lies to others and is constantly ridiculed by the Eggman Empire's leaders otherwise much to this fowl fiend's internal frustration.

2: Doctor Julian "Snively" Robotnik: Once Eggman's admiring nephew who happily aided his uncle's rise to power as one of his chief mechanics, years of being pushed aside by the egotistical dictator have left him embittered to the point of being vengeful, thirsty for power, and deep down, hungry for true affection, which he tries to find with his younger, U.F. sympathizing half-sister Hope and his same-minded lover, Regina Ferrum.

3: Sleet: A cunning bounty hunter who keeps his ears both to the ground and the top at the same time through well-placed connections, he has a long-standing contract with Doctor Eggman who tolerates his other contracts so long as they supply well-needed information, even though the greedy Sleet tries to embezzle all his employers at once.

4: Metamorphia: Created by the brilliant Eggman-fanboy with a mutated body, Grimer Wormtongue, she is a well-capable infiltrator who earns to impress the dictatorial mad scientist she adores so much, but is disheartened by her cruel master's clear lack of interest or even compassion.

5: Phage: A computer virus who imprinted on the Doctor that accidentally created her, she grants herself a lethal physical body through nanites she downloads herself into, but tends to go to far into impressing her "father".

6: Doctor Starline: Well-versed psychologist who looks up to the Leading Doctor as a protegee would to his master, he nonetheless tends to lose faith in his inspiration with his constant defeats and mistakes.

Thinking over Eggman's lackeys from Sonic X and Morpho from Boom, I think I can imagine the latter and at least Bokkun among the former having roles to play in the S-6 as well with Bokkun being something of a communications expert and Morpho being another shapeshifter to go with Metamorphia and Phage, but we'll see how that goes. Then again, considering that the above listed have left, been abandoned by, or seek to betray Eggman for various reasons, it's not hard to believe that the S-6 membership roster would be changed every once in a while.

Sounds interesting, though, right?

I know that Archie Sonic's one-time Grandmaster Diesel didn't survive the reboot probably because his origin as described in the Comic Encyclopedia was tied to a bear biker gang that Knuckles fought with in the comic's early days or something, but if he was salvageable, I can image he would've been the Egg Boss of the post reboot's version of Russia (a certain brown bear is that country's national animal after all, and it makes no difference if Diesel still plays biker thug or adapts some Russian stereotypes like Tsarist aristocracy, communist soldiering, or even the Russian Bratva) like how it introduced a version of our own Middle East. It's not that I don't understand why Archie wanted to give the Battle Kukkus and Witchcarts a big enough role in the new setting, but in all honesty, I think I would've preferred it if such promising rivals of Doctor Eggman didn't become tied down to him like that, especially when they don't have any real territories to govern over. Therefore, in addition to Diesel over "Aris-Su", I'd fill in the last Egg Boss position over the South Pole (for the sake of argument) with either Phage, or, if she might be too easy to control or be betrayed by, Eclipse the Darkling (he can't exactly restart the Black Arms with just four Dark Arms and himself on a planet filled with enemies, and, if the chronological order followed the games, it would've led to an Archie version of Sonic Colors).

Since the latest IDW Sonic issue showed us Blaze's "imperial palace" I can imagine that it can be seen that Blaze is born to be a future Empress rather than a Queen as some have depicted. Kind of like the thought of it myself, actually.

To be honest, from looking over Archie Sonic #108, I figured that Archie missed a great opportunity for properly returning Robotnik Prime and ending the dimensional confusion that started in #75 because while I know that he was briefly reconfigured thanks to a molecular thingamabob built by his replacement which was destroyed by the Freedom Fighters, at the same time, Eggman had the ability to Roboticize with a touch, and when he and his Prime counterpart were tricked into fighting each other, I just felt that the latter would've been made into a Roboticized Overlander, which would probably keep his molecules together and make the former being in the Prime Zone unneeded and prone to arrest by the Zone Cops. It just makes great sense when you think about it.

It's pretty disappointing how Sega and Penders meddled with Archie Sonic before it could properly depict Eggman Nega. I don't know how they would do with the "eviler descendant" thing, but, of course, we'll never know outside of interview sourcers or so.

Now that I think about it, IDW Sonic's referring of Blaze ruling an empire probably comes from an Archie Sonic post-story thing featuring Marine making up a Silver/Blaze adventure story until Blaze literally burns that ship.

Anyway, for those who know Sonic the Comic well-enough, before it got canned, there was a story where Sonic and friends ended up in a "Mirror Zone" where he was turned evil by the R.O.C.C. instead of Ovi Kintobor and became a tyrannical king just as his Super Sonic split personality was more pacifistic in nature than psychotically dangerous. It's not necessarily a bad idea, but one could argue that an opposite world where only a select few characters have their morals changed doesn't have a great deal of imagination in context whether it's in the old comic, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, SWAT Kats, and maybe Fairy Tail to list the first four that come to mind. I also know that STC's writers weren't always on the same page, but I did like how they once depicted Amy having a similar origin to Sonic {speed-related experiments changed their furs from brown to pink/blue), which doesn't seem to fit with the way the Mirror Zone depicted things. Considering that STC Sonic first met Tails by saving him from drowning, yet he still appeared in the Mirror Zone against King Sonic, I can imagine that there are still so many issues to consider.

Anyway, aside from the above and Archie's Scourge, the other "evil Sonic" was the one time kid book character from the old days, Cinos, who had a similar origin to King Sonic, but of course, if you want to adapt the concept to the games, or a story that takes places in them, the best idea to handle the distinct name would be to rearrange "Sonic" into either Sinoć (means last night in Serbo-Croatian, which probably fits Shadow better), Sinok (which is kind of lame since his name would mean "Hiccup the Hedgehog"), and my one time use, Scion. At least, that's my gut feeling.

Comparing the mental breakdowns between Archie's Pre-SGW Eggman and STC's Robotnik, I can imagine that the former would've had another loss of rational functions if Snively, who as I remember it, was the only person he confided to about his "Sonic is Chaos Energy incarnate" theory, made a similar statement to him as STC's Amy did to her Robotnik as well as Starline's epiphany about IDW Eggman that it was ultimately his own failings that he was ultimately beaten. I think Eggman would try to deny it at first before becoming more rapid very quickly until he's either on the floor again, or tries to end it all once and for all.

I think I noticed at least one Sonic/MHA crossover on TV Tropes, yet I haven't looked into further on what could make such different fandoms compatible, if you know what I mean. Mario and Sonic are one thing, but anything beyond games is kind of another, at least to me. Thoughts?

Discussion of the Eggman Empire's Egg Boss roster aside, I just had a thought about who would serve more governmental roles in the event that the Empire could be played more of as a legitimate government than a technocratic paramilitary employing terror in their world domination objectives. I don't have a lot of ideas on who in mind, but since Infinite, Metal Sonic, or Commander Brutus can be considered the Eggman Army's chief commander and Grimer the top scientist after Eggman himself, I suppose people experienced in spycraft and finance would be clarified to fill the roles of Directors of Intelligence and Finance in that order.

More Eggman Empire stuff.

Admittedly, it's been a while since I read the Archie Sonic issue that had Pre-SGW Eggman explain his "gaming" nature to a just recovered Lien-Da, but while I can respect why he would make implants that would paralyze or detonate his own cyborg soldiers, it kind of makes his "game" feel a bit less sporty if he controls the other players on some level, especially since the point of keeping potentially traitorous subordinates close to him is to keep himself sharp in running a dictatorship and not simply entertain himself with the losers' defeated looks. As crazy as it sounds, I wouldn't mind seeing more Eggman followers working for him out of genuine loyalty as much as from fear and opportunism.

Remembered a thought I had when Archie Sonic was still running before the SGW. Simply put, I think I once thought up of Eggman, instead of coming from an alternate zone in the future, was the real Robotnik from Mobius Prime's direct future which would've been altered once he came back in time to conquer his enemies earlier, but he still has enough foresight to toy with Sonic about his would've been family as well as his future enemies and the deaths of his friends. The idea might require the world of Archie Sonic to be reconstructed a bit to fit with how the Overlander migration's return and the alien invasions would factor in addition to the whole Robo-Robotnik thing, but I think it would fit with the alternate future versions of Mobius where Knuckles/Enerjak rules and King Sonic's time travel led to the Dark Presence under King Shadow. I actually can imagine a good "crisis arc" that would erupt if the present day Freedom Fighters had to choose between saving the far off future where Silver comes from or their would've been near future in the form of their successive children who would also have time traveled to save their future, but would be running on borrowed time before they cease to exist.

Red Son-inspired Shadow, or Silver story?
A Sonic story like Superman: Red Son was been on my mind for a while, but I'm still torn about making the "Superman" in that story either Shadow (half-alien, ageless super soldier that sometimes has a desire for domination that somewhat fits how Superman: Red Son was about the Man of Steel being raised in the Soviet Union and eventually succeeds Stalin as Premier with the intention to make the world a better place, even as he makes controversial decisions), or Silver (had a similar ends justify the means attitude in his debut and, in the graphic novel at least, Superman turned out to be from Earth's distant future at the end just as Silver is from two hundred years in Sonic's future) . I think I have a name for each as well as an idea for how they would both progress from the beginning to the end, so they both have pros and cons, but I just haven't reached a solid decision yet. Then again, I can probably hold back until the end of this year at most, so I'm willing to gauge peoples thoughts. Would be nice if this thing came with a poll, but it is what it is.

Last Saturday, that MCU-inspired Sonic story that I talked about way back, Phantom Gauntlet, just posted it's second chapter. By all accounts, it could use some work, but the author is trying, so there's no need to be rude to them or anyone else about it.

Also, while I know that STC Tails didn't have the traditional mechanical genius of most other Tails', I wouldn't be surprised if his origin in an otherworldly Nameless Zone was what allowed him to communicate with Flickies and potentially be as magically skilled as his Archie Uncle Merlin. Just something to think about.

Okay, I know one really good sonic fic, but I can't dig it up right now on my phone, if it is even still there

It was on FFN, predates being able to chapter fic so it is all one big chunk, and pretty long too. It either opens with Sonic practicing on parallel bars, or fucking trying to assassinate Robotnik.

(It's SatAM verse.)

Edit: HaHA, I FOUND IT

Sounds interesting in it's own curious way. Then again, it takes place in SatAM, so I suppose it's supposed to be depicted like that.

I can see a similarity between Final Fantasy VII's lifestream/mako plot and the planetary life energy absorbing plots of Sonic the Comic's Robotnik followed by Eggman in Sonic Lost World, so it feels pretty interesting.

Aside from that, looking at Prince Charnock from The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, which may have been the first time aliens were ever depicted in a Sonic form, I initially thought of making him a sad clown in a composite story of Sonic media where the Black Arms are like the intergalactic Horde from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and had already conquered/destroyed many other planets aside from Earth, like Charnock's homeworld of Rhombus, considering aside from him and his advisor, Splorg, we never saw more of his civilization, but then I just had an idea that if the Black Arms kept Charnock from being coronated and allowed his toddler brother to become King in his place, as was feared in Close Encounter of the Sonic Kind, the Black Arms would take advantage of the kid's youthful ignorance to make a beneficial deal where the peoples of Rhombus assist them in hoarding resources from conquered and destroyed worlds among other things in exchange for some resources, especially of the sentient kind, being kept on the Black Arms' side while the baby King of Rhombus gets sweets, dairy, meat, and fruit on what is supposed to be a vegetable and crime free planet.

While I'm not keen on giving too much attention to a place and people that weren't exactly shown in canon, I figured it sounded like a good, workable, and promising idea.

If we're talking Sonic, I have to mention DeviantArt on Ice, a Sonic Boom OCSI on this forum by AtriumCarceris. It's my favorite, and only reccomended, Sonic fic. The humor is on point.

Only recommendation, huh? Haven't noticed a lot of good stuff in your opinion? Just wondering. Personally, OC-centered as well as self-insert stories aren't my thing, but we can't all like the same thing, so no biggie.

I know it was going to happen sooner or later, but
I kind of wish that Sonic kept his amnesia a bit longer
for story-related purposes. I know it was already done at a good enough pace for Eggman, but with Mister Needlemouse's "lack" of fighting experience and his suaveness, I figured it would make for some interesting interactions as I'm sure Amy would predictably agree.
