Son of Death (30k Mortarion Quest)

Well at least we'll get a show. I think this Emp will have no trouble with it.
[listen here you little shit] - The Emperor 5 seconds after being handed farming tools

But to be fair, the Emperor isn't the perpetual-immortal-literally every important man in world history he is in canon, so it might not be anathema (🥁) to display some humility. Granted not a whole lot, but still

The perpetual Emp must have had quiet times in his life where he did shit like farming though, before things veered for the awful on Earth. The long way around to learning patience and humility if you will. This one, probably not so much due to his shorter life and being born in war torn Terra.

So this may actually be a more novel experience, even if he is also likely to take better to someone shoving humility on him than the all awful all the time Emp of canon.

But honestly I think he pissed off Mortarion by telling him farmer is below him so this is a well deserved reckoning.
Maybe or maybe not, either way, it could give Morty an idea of the Emperor's character when it comes to caring about lesser 'creatures' that aren't typically all that important.

Basically how he may care for the average human.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I've been up for about 23 hours.

Nah it makes sense. The Emperor is probably still a bit of an egomaniac and won't care that much about individual farmers in his imperial machinery.

Yeah the guy can be genuinely humble and respect the 'little people' in front of him

whilst also retaining the ability to sacrifice those people for the cause.

Reasonably sympathetic doesn't mean he's a 'good' person. Case in point, Angron in BoC is genuinely a better person than Emps... and he still burned an entire world and would do it again.

After the burning of Prospero have him realize he was tricked into slaughtering a loyal legion and then despair as the Alpha Legion closes its noose around him and no one comes to help...
Possible and extremely unfortunate.

It's Chaos. When it doesn't get one option it's going for a different one. Mortarion is obviously going to be Nurgle's first choice (Planet, demeanor, abilities, etc. just fit), but it's not like Khorne wanted Angron. Sanguinius was his first choice iirc? Then again, everyone wants Sanguinius.

The Legions are large and constantly in flux due to the war. Chaos infiltration is actually kind of easy to pull off under such circumstances. It's just going to be somewhat more difficult with Mortarion because he can identify Daemons and is aware of their nature to some degree. That's why Nurgle is going for numerology. Slow and subtle. Basically conditioning him towards liking things tied to the number 7. Once that fails Nurgle will definitely go for a brute force strategy similar to canon.

I'm very interested in the "Ward"/ "Field"/ "Territory" stuff we saw at his farm. That would be an interesting Psychic discipline to follow. Large scale area of effect abilities, barriers, bounded fields and whatnot that apply buffs and debuffs or something similar. Especially useful if we can somehow jurry rig it into reinforcing a Gellar Field or give it the properties of a Gellar Field to prevent Daemonic incursions.

Downside of it would probably be the sheer amount of time needed to set it up and the inflexibility. But it's 40k, so long term planning is usually better.

Speaking only for myself, a guy who hasn't read the Horus Heresy, I could never buy Sanguinus as a Khornate Primarch. It feels like the laziest possibly interpretation of the "Blood, amiright?" connection. Out of the 4, I could most easily see Sanguinus going Tzeentch.

The mutant population of Baal, them changing their forms to become space marines, the Blood Angels being notable for even in the grimdarkness of the setting holding on to their hope for a better tomorrow... The jigsaw pieces are all there, ready to be twisted and used against a good man who only wants what's best for his people.

From what I recall Slaanesh was trying to get Sanguinus first then out of nowhere came Ka'Bandha who one shot the slannesh daemon that was making the attempt.

From what I can find sanguinius as a person has a reasonably severe problem with his rage, with many of his feats being powered by it. He came into his own as a primarch out of sheer anger at baalite mutants for endangering his allies, and his greatest combat feat, his duel against ka'bandha, was in part due to his rage from the daemons mockery

It's actually a lot more nuanced and interesting than that imo.

To very poorly summarize a book I haven't read in years: the Red Thirst and the Black Rage that Sanguinius' children suffer from already existed in some capacity even in their early days, and over time was getting worse. Sanguinius was desperate to find some sort of cure for it, and didn't go to Big E on it because he was worried he'd be the third primarch to disappear. Horus found out about all of this before he was corrupted and swore to secrecy.

So after he fell to Chaos, Horus leaked to Sanguinius that there might be answers/a cure in a random cluster that was overtaken by Khorne and Slaanesh (Signus Prime I believe? It's been a while since I read the book) to get him out of the way of his plans and hopefully to kill him. Khorne, however, (or more accurately one of his greater demons) decided that he'd push the angels into a frothing rage and then offer them Khorne's mark. Almost worked, too.

Sanguinius has always been a guy with the veneer of nobility and purity, but with a deep seated rage, hatred and brutality. He could easily go to Khorne for the rage and blood drinking, Slaanesh with the beauty hiding horror, even Nurgle for the despair over the Rage (though I personally dislike how the Dorn[?] altHeresy handled that one) or Tzeentch with his future sight. Horus was worried Sanguinius would have more favor with the Dark Gods than him and for good reason.

[X] Humility. The Emperor may wage war on the stars and rule over billions, but has he ever laboured for his bread?

The Emperor trying to get over his pride is something I really want to see.

I haven't read Ra's Angron Quest (Initial choices weirded me out a bit and I didn't try again, I think?) and I wanted to know how the the Crusade and the Heresy were handled.

In regards to the former:
- What kinds of aliens can we expect?
- How was fighting, planning and politics organized? (Especially in regards to votes)
- How much freedom do we have to establish our Legion?
- Can we create Alien/Human factions and suggest them?
- Is there involvement with the Imperial Army and Navy or can we create our own Auxiliaries recruited from Barbarus?
- Are actions a thing or is is it more story driven?

And for the latter:
- Is it (or something like it) absolutely ensured to happen because Chaos/Tzeentch?
--> There are lots of different interpretations in regards to what could have been done or if anything could have been done at all and I'm interested in what we can expect.

Finally: - Are write-ins a thing and if so, to what extent?
