Take command of the Anti-Biomorph and Breach Containment Taskforce. Build your forces, fight monsters from beyond the Breach, keep the world from ending. Oh, and prepare for your people to die.
OP: Character Creation, Boons, and Complications.
Location
USA
The world has changed. On a day like any other, a tear in the fabric of reality itself was suddenly and violently torn open. Like the claws of some terrible beast had cut and ripped a wound into the universe itself, and from that wound spilled forth creatures. Hordes of monsters charged out of the breach into our world and slaughtered countless people in a frenzy, the initial death counts in the millions within the first week as cities were overrun, the police and military forces who tried to fight off the monsters and protect the civilians barely making a dent. Along with the creatures, dubbed Biomorphs, was a flood of exotic energies that spread out from the breach across the world, causing several strange phenomenon to occur in places where it gathers into dense pockets and creating new materials.

Eventually, the world's governments were forced to work together to create a force to contain the threat. The best of the best from across the globe united under one banner. A containment zone was set up in order to prevent the monsters from spreading any further, and to quarantine the area around the wound in reality designated as the Alpha Breach. However, beyond the containment zone, smaller breaches will be torn open and require intervention as monsters emerge from them. And often, these monsters are led by a giant towering beast that possesses greater strength and abilities than the smaller creatures. Officially designated as Titans, these kaiju-like entities require the usage of experimental mechanized combat units called Slayers in order to take down.

You are the commander of this organization, but who are you?

[ ] The Soldier: A soldier who was on the ground during the initial conflicts between humanity and the Biomorphs. You led your squad through hell and back, saving lives and putting down a number of different Biomorphs, becoming skilled in fighting the enemy and learning their weaknesses. You were there to see Slayer-01 kill a Titan and helped to clear out pockets of Biomorphs and protect the construction of the walls of the containment zone. Now, you serve as the commander of the organization, ready to use your experience to further help humanity fight back against the invaders. (Gain the Veteran Trait: +10 to Military Actions. Gain 1 Veteran Hero Unit.)

[ ] The Scientist: A brilliant scientist who has taken to studying the Biomorphs and the exotic energy from the Alpha Breach and the one who invented the Slayers. You seek to use the opportunity presented by the Alpha Breach in order to advance mankind into a new age, and what better way to test your developments than on the plentiful targets found in the Biomorphs? (Gain the Genius Trait: +10 to Research Actions. Research Actions get 1 Free Re-Roll.)

[ ] The Engineer: A skilled and innovative engineer that can build just about anything and build it to last. While you weren't the one to come up with the Slayers, you are the one who built them and made them a reality. Same with the containment zone. When it comes to mechanics and industrial stuff, you're the best at what you do, and you know how to do it pretty cheap too without losing quality. (Gain the Innovator Trait: +10 to Industrial Actions. 1 Industrial Action can be given a 50% Discount.)

[ ] The Diplomat: You have a silver tongue and know how to use it to get what you want and have people work together. You've got friends who can help you out run this show and have an idea on where to get more, plus you can convince the politicians to send some extra cash your way once in a while. (Gain the Silver-Tongue Trait: +10 to Diplomatic Actions. Can use connections to Double Funding for 1 Turn, 2 Turn Cooldown.)

[ ] The Agent: You've been a spy, an assassin, and an investigator. You've stalked the shadows and gazed into the abyss that is the dark side of humanity. You know there are those out there who would screw over everyone else just to benefit themselves, or who hold back something vital to the cause. You also know how to deal with them. (Gain the Infiltrator Trait: +10 to Intrigue Actions. Can Investigate 1 Target without using up an Intrigue Action Slot.)

And what is your name?

[ ] Write-In.

And what is your gender?

[ ] Male
[ ] Female

Of course, the world isn't content to simply throw one apocalyptic event at humanity, that would be too easy! Whether it was simmering under the surface or was something caused by the Alpha Breach and the exotic energies it was flooding the world, there have been rumors of strange phenomena happening in the world along with developments that could prove to either be a boon… or a complication to your mission.

Choose One Boon.

[ ] Cyberware Development: It seems that your organization has been given access to some experimental cybernetic augmentation in order to help research and development in the field for military and civilian cybernetics. (Unlocks Cyberware Tech, Cyberware Actions Unlocked)

[ ] Slayer Factory: Your HQ has been outfitted with a facility dedicated to the production of parts and equipment for Slayers, and is outfitted with tools and sections for repair and maintenance. (Cost for Slayers Construction and Repair reduced.)

[ ] Surplus Military: Your forces have received a significant increase in numbers and equipment, expanding your operational strength. Mostly in the form of vehicles. (Start with an extra 30 IFV Units, 10 Tank Units, and 20 Self Propelled Howitzer Units.)

[ ] Nuclear Option: Sometimes, when you have exhausted every alternative, you just need to leave nothing but scorched earth and glass. You've obtained permission and a pair of 50 kiloton Tactical Nuclear Warheads. While you only get the two, and need to practically beg if you want more, if it looks like you're already up a creek without a paddle… (Gain 2 Tac-Nukes. Usage will wipe out all none-giant units in an AO, and severely damage all Giant units.)

[ ] General Mobilization: Your world is being invaded, and you need boots on the ground to take the fight to the enemy, wherever they may appear! Thankfully, it seems that particular memo has gotten around, and you'll be able to get more troops than you otherwise would. (Gain an additional 12 Infantry Units at Start. Military Recruitment will auto-succeed, giving 2d6 Infantry Units.)

[ ] Lightning Bolt 2: Seems you've gotten your hands a special deal that allows you to order some VTOL Lightning IIs for cheap, a few have already been sent over to your hangers. (3 Lightning 2 VTOL Units, Lightning 2 VTOL Units have Discounts and are available to purchase.)

[ ] Next-Gen Slayer: You've got a preview of the future in Anti-Titan technology, a prototype for a 2nd Generation Slayer has been deemed ready for field operations. (Start with 1 Gen-2 Slayer.)

[ ] Exotic Material Stockpile: You've managed to acquire a supply of materials affected and created by the exotic energies of the Alpha Breach. What you can use them for is something you'll have to figure out. (Gain 10 Units of Exotic Materials.)

[ ] Advanced Detection Array: Your HQ has been upgraded with a special sensor array to give you advance warning when the Alpha Breach is going to discourage more Biomorphs and give you an idea of how many there's going to be. (Gain warning when Biomorph Flood occur, and how many units are part of it.)

[ ] Preserved Titan Corpse: You have an intact body of a Biomorph Titan in your possession, preserved and ready for study. The secrets held within its flesh could give all sorts of insights into their nature. (Titan Research Unlocked and +10 to 1 Biomorphic Research Action.)

Must Choose One Complication, But Can Choose Two More. With each Additional Complication, Choose an Additional Boon.

[ ] The Beta Breach: Turns out there was a second permanent Breach, and you had to set up a second containment zone there as well. This means you'll have to split your forces to garrison both containment zones and deal with two Biomorph Floods. (Must deal with Two Biomorph Floods.)

[ ] Breach Cults: The world is full of crazies, and these people are the dangerous kind. Cults have started to spring up that revolve around the Breach and the Biomorphs. They're a subversive element that would certainly get in your way and cause problems. (Breach Cults added as an Enemy Faction.)

[ ] Breach Jamming: Whatever energy the Alpha Breach is giving off, it really doesn't play nice with things like satellites, radios, and radar. It's like a broad-spectrum jammer on steroids. At least the landlines and satellite imaging still work. (Alpha Breach and Exotic Energy dense areas jam satellite signals, radios, and radar, causing a -20 Malus on detection using conventional methods and disabling wireless communication nearby.)

[ ] High Slayer Attrition: Slayers are complicated machines meant to fight giant monsters, and unfortunately that means that when they get banged up, it costs a lot of time and resources to fix them up. Which is extra problematic since it seems your pilots seem to have issues not getting hit. (Slayers are more likely to get damaged in fights, repair cost is doubled.)

[ ] Oil Shortage: Seems that Biomorph decided they wanted to throw a bit more fuel to the fire, by literally setting fire to a major oil field. Making sure your vehicles have enough fuel in the tank is going to be significantly more expensive. (+30% Vehicle Upkeep, Gas Prices skyrocketed.)

[ ] Meta-Emergence: Turns out that the exotic energies of the Breach are causing certain people to develop supernatural abilities. Said supernatural powers are also causing people to freak out and drawing the attention of several players. You might have to expand your operations to cover this mess… (Meta-Humans are a thing now, for good and bad.)

[ ] Patchwork World: It seems it's not just Biomorphs that have come over from the Breach, parts of the Earth have been covered in areas where the environment has been overwritten by an alien landscape, filled with anomalous phenomena and replacing what was there before. (Areas of Earth replaced with Anomalous Environments, with their own threats within.)

[ ] L-Class Biomorphs: Turns out, Biomorphs can get bigger than Titan. Leviathan or L-Class Biomorphs are to Titans and Slayers what Titans and Slayers are to normal people, Giants among Giants, and living calamities that could wipe cities off the map. They're rare, but you'd need an entire team of Slayers backed up with an army to handle one. (L-Class Biomorphs added to Biomorph Forces.)

[ ] Slayer Leak: Someone has managed to spread the schematics and tech behind the Slayers, meaning others can now figure out how to build their own Slayers for their own use. (Slayer tech is now out in the open.)

[ ] Toxic Biomorphs: Biomorphs enjoy making use of toxins and poisons that are very effective on your men, and when a large group of Biomorphs have gathered and claimed an area, it becomes infested with toxic spore clouds. You needed Haz-Ops equipment in order to take the fight to them. (Infantry Units take longer to heal when wounded by Biomorphs. Biomorph Nests will automatically Poison all Infantry Units without Haz-Ops Equipment.)

You are Doctor Laura Thompson, scientist and the mind behind the glorious mechanized anti-biomorphic Titan weapon known as the Slayer. You were also very upset at the moment, as the person on the other end of the phone call should know very well by this point. "Who the hell is running our cyber security!? This is the schematics for our best weapon against Titan-class Biomorphs, and somehow instead of being secured behind the best defenses money could buy, it's now out in the wilderness of the internet!?" You yelled into the phone, one of your eyes twitching as you felt the need to throttle the absolute moronic nethanderthal who allowed this atrocity to happen. You scowled as you listened to the man on the other end as he tried to calm you down. "Oh? And what you could possibly have that would make up for this utter catastrophe-!?" You paused as the words came over the line. "We have an intact Titan-Class specimen? …Perfectly preserved you say? And the data on the Cybernetics has come in safely? And the dedicated facility for my babies has been fully constructed?"

Well… that does take the edge off.

You sighed and spoke into the phone, keeping your voice level this time. "Very well, that is good news. But I still want our cyber security to be gone over with fine toothed comb and refined into something where this incident doesn't occur again, do you understand? Good, I'm off to meet the Department Heads…" You paused as the man on the other end told you something that brought back the eye twitch.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE ONLY HAVE TWO DEPARTMENT HEADS!?"

God, you had your work cut out for you if this was the level of competence you were stuck with…

Facility Power: 5/20
Conventional Units: 20 Infantry Units, 2 Transport Helicopter Units, 2 Combat Helicopter Units, 2 IFV Units, 1 Tank Unit
Special Units: 3 Slayer Units
Credits: 1,500 (+200 Credits Per Turn)

Military: Thankfully you actually had someone in charge of this section, one Commander Felix Adams. Good track record, knew what he was doing at least… (2 Action)

[ ] Recruitment Drive: "Director, we only have twenty squads at our command, and more often than not, these Biomorphs come out in hordes. It would be best if we increased our numbers as much as possible. Can't keep the Slayers clear of the swarm if we don't have enough firepower." (Cost: 150. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 40. Reward: More Infantry Units.)

[ ] Armor Acquisition: "Director, we have only one tank. While the Slayers are certainly big and armored, they're meant to take on Titans. I recommend we work to get additional armored units before we end up needing them and not having them." (Cost: 200. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: More Tanks, along with a few other vehicles.)

[ ] Steel in the Sky: "Director, I'm beginning to think we got the short end of the stick. Aerial Biomorphs, while rare, do exist. Along with that, having units in the air that can provide fire support for our ground units will be of great help in our operations." (Cost: 250. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: More Aerial Units, Mostly Combat Helicopters.)

[ ] Culling Operation: "Director, while we have secured the containment zone around the Alpha Breach, there are still Biomorphs inside the zone that will prove to be problematic if not dealt with. While I'd prefer having more men and vehicles before we moved out, I'll work with what we have." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 60. Reward: Biomorph Forces inside Containment Zone decreased.)

[ ] Slayer Coordination: "Director, with your permission I'd like to run some drills and mock missions to help with coordination between our conventional forces and the Slayers. Last thing we want is for either one to get in the other's way during a real operation." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Coordination between Conventional and Slayer Units improves, decreased chance of acquiring a Malus during operations.)

[ ] Bluecap Improvement: "Director, I'd like to train the base security to a level I feel will allow them to better deal with any hostile that makes their way into the base, either Biomorph or human. I'm certain we'd all sleep better if we knew the 'Bluecaps' were good at their job." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Base Security Improved. 'Bluecaps' will be equal to Infantry Units in effectiveness.)

Research: Ah, the lab. The wonderful things your researchers can come up with, the secrets they could uncover! Unsurprisingly, your promotion to Director has left this department without a head. You should probably fix that… (1 Action)

[ ] Get a Department Head (Research): You need to get someone to manage your favorite department, since you'll be so busy handling the organization as a whole. There are bound to be a few brilliant minds you can put to the task, right? (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Research Department Head, +1 Research Action Slot.)

[ ] Chroming Up, The Basics: You received a very interesting data package concerning cybernetics enhancements, filled to the brim with ideas and schematics for the field actually. Looking through it and figuring out ways to apply it to your operations sounds like a good idea. (Cost: 150. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 40. Reward: You can produce Medical Grade Cyberware for your Troops or for sale, Unlock additional Cyberware Actions.)

[ ] The Corpse of Giants: You have a fully intact, preserved corpse of a Titan. The amount of data you could get from this is immense, but if you wanted to get every last drop of information you'd need to do some pretty invasive stuff that would destroy it. Unfortunate, seeing as you doubt you'd find another specimen like this. (Cost: 150, Consumes Preserved Titan Corpse. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 60. Reward: Large amounts of Biomorphic Data, Greater Understanding of Titan physiology, ???)

[ ] Small Samples: You have the corpse of a Titan, fully intact and perfectly preserved. You could use it to acquire data on Biomorphs, but if you took only small samples instead of more invasive and destructive means and analyzed those instead, you might manage to keep it around longer for future research. (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 60. Reward: Biomorphic Data, Basic Understanding of Titans, Titan Corpse is not fully consumed, ???)

[ ] Better Pilot Interface: Your Slayers are such lovely darlings, but some people have trouble operating them to their fullest. It mainly seems to be a UI issue, but you can definitely fix that in no time! (Cost: 150. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Slayers are easier to operate, Slayer Pilot Training DC reduced.)

[ ] Slayer Armory: Your Slayers need more weapons! You just need to figure out how to make them, either scaling this up or making big guns fit onto your darling's chassis without it being more problematic than it's worth. But you were the Mother of the Slayers, it should be child's play! (Cost: 200. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Slayer Armament List Expanded.)

Industrial: The other department that has someone in charge, a nice lady by the name of Emily Chambers. You feel like you can trust her to take care of your Slayers. (2 Actions)

[ ] Slayer Production: "Well Director, while we might not have more pilots currently, I think that having a surplus of Slayers will be a good thing! Having spares in chase one of them isn't working right will certainly be better than not having them. And besides, if we have more now, then when we get more pilots they won't have to wait too long." (Cost: 200. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 60. Reward: Additional Slayes Constructed.)

[ ] Rocket Pods & Flak Guns: "Nothing against our Bluecaps, Director, but I think having some stuff built into the HQ for handling more flighty targets and those with a particular toughness to them might be beneficial for base security. Me and my boys can get something whipped up right quick!" (Cost: 200. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 50. Rewards: Rocket Pods and Flak Guns added to HQ, Increases Security.)

[ ] Pop Goes the Turret!: "Now Director, hear me out. What if we installed turrets that could pop out of the ceiling and floors that shoot at any bug or crazy that manages to get into our base? It's great, ain't it?" (Cost: 150. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Internal Hidden Turrets added, Increases Security.)

[ ] Secondary Laboratories : "I can definitely add more labs to the base if you want that, Director. I'm sure the Whitecoats will like that, and maybe yourself too, eh?" (Cost: 200. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 50. Reward: Secondary Labs Built, +5 to Research Actions and +1 Re-Roll on Failed Research Actions.)

[ ] Secondary Workshops: "Having more places for my boys and girls to work their stuff is going to be something you won't regret, Director! I'm sure we'll whip up some pretty great stuff once we get the facilities!" (Cost: 200. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 50. Reward: Secondary Workshops Built, +5 to Industrial Actions and +1 Re-Roll on Failed Industrial Actions.)

[ ] House of Asclepius: "You want a full on hospital built into the HQ? Should be better than the basic infirmary already set up. Sure, I can do that for you, Director!" (Cost: 200. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 50. Reward: Hospital Built, Infantry Units and Slayer Pilots recover faster and can survive worse injuries, Medical Grade Cyberware can be installed here.)

Diplomacy: The PR team? The Diplomatic folks who deal with the politicians and corporations do you don't have to? A fucking skeleton crew! Need to fix this! (1 Action)

[ ] Get a Department Head (Diplomacy): You ain't doing crap without someone to run this show, you need to get someone and fast! (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Diplomatic Department Head, +1 Diplomacy Action Slot.)

[ ] A Fleshed Out Crew: You have a skeleton of a team for your PR and diplomatic relations, you can't let this stand! You need more people who know what they're doing! (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Diplomatic Department fully staffed, except for a Department Head, DC on Diplomatic Actions Decreased.)

Intrigue: You also don't have someone for dealing with the cloak and dagger stuff, which you're probably going to need in order to find out who leaked your schematics for the Slayers and to root out any spies. (1 Action)

[ ] Get a Department Head (Intrigue): You need someone to handle this spy and assassin stuff, you are just frankly not the person to run any kind of shadowy secret agent operations. (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Covert Ops Department Head, +1 Intrigue Action Slot.)

Personal: Hey, you have some time to yourself! Now how are you going to spend it… (1 Personal Action.)

[ ] Personal Attention: You 're going to put some personal attention to something and make sure it will actually happen! (Cost: 0. +10 to 1 Action.)
-[] Action

[ ] Brainstorm: Sometimes, you come up with all kinds of ideas and sort through them to see which are actually possible and worthwhile to try out. (Cost: 0. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 40. Reward: New Research Action Added.)

[ ] Buy a Lottery Ticket: Because why not, you might get lucky! (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 100. Reward: 1,000 Credits.)

You are Doctor Laura Thompson, and you have had an interesting first month as the Director for this international initiative… on which you blew a pretty big chunk of your starting cash too, but that was to be expected really! You were basically building things from the ground up, and you had to hire three additional Department Heads! Sure those weren't the most expensive parts of the budget this month, but it was a very good portion! As for how exactly things went down…

Military

[X] Slayer Coordination: "Director, with your permission I'd like to run some drills and mock missions to help with coordination between our conventional forces and the Slayers. Last thing we want is for either one to get in the other's way during a real operation." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Coordination between Conventional and Slayer Units improves, decreased chance of acquiring a Malus during operations.)

(Roll: 82 vs DC: 50, PASS)

(To be Continued in: "Practice Run")

[X] Bluecap Improvement: "Director, I'd like to train the base security to a level I feel will allow them to better deal with any hostile that makes their way into the base, either Biomorph or human. I'm certain we'd all sleep better if we knew the 'Bluecaps' were good at their job." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Base Security Improved. 'Bluecaps' will be equal to Infantry Units in effectiveness.)

(Roll: 32 vs DC: 50, FAIL)

"You… doing okay there, Adams?" You asked as you looked at him with some concern as he downed the third cup of tea in the past few minutes after you came to check in on his progress with training the Bluecaps up to the same effectiveness as your field squads.

"Director, I have been surrounded by imbeciles. I have never known that I could feel such disappointment in another human being, let alone multiple." He said, rather blunts as he poured a fourth cup.

"Well, that's concerning to hear. Were the Bluecaps really that bad? They didn't give us glorified mall cops, did they?" You asked, not really being serious when you made the comparison. However, Adams' silence in response made you worried about what the answer was going to be. "Did they?"

"Thankfully, no they didn't, but it is a near thing. Standards for Bluecaps are laxer than for combat personnel as the higher ups didn't think that the base would come under attack anytime soon so the majority of them reservists that occasionally train their marksman ship a couple of times a month as better trained personnel are needed elsewhere. They can do basic PT well enough and follow orders, but they don't have any combat experience and I need more work to get them to trained to perform squad tactics and CQC to be of actual help in a combat setting. I'll need to put them through Boot Camp before they could come close to our ground pounders. Frankly, I think it's more efficient to just station some active-duty guards on rotation and instead train the Bluecaps to root out infiltration attempts instead."

"Are there any downsides to what you are suggesting?" You asked as Adams straightened himself up and started to list of the benefits and downsides of this arrangement.

"Well for one, we would be down an Infantry Unit or two as we implement a guard rotation for them to do. But in return we don't need to worry about base security for a while as all of the ground pounders have enough experience to handle base security for a good while."

So, while we would be down to 90% of our infantry strength, we could spend our resources elsewhere. Or we could double down and continue training the Bluecaps to be more combat capable.

[ ] Agree with Adam's suggestion (Station 2 Infantry Units to act as Improved Base Security; Unlock Bluecap Improvement: Infiltration)
[ ] Continue Bluecap Improvement Action. (Bluecap Improvement takes 1 more Turn with reduced DC)

Research

[X] Get a Department Head (Research): You need to get someone to manage your favorite department, since you'll be so busy handling the organization as a whole. There are bound to be a few brilliant minds you can put to the task, right? (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Research Department Head, +1 Research Action Slot.)

(Roll: 56+10=66 vs DC: 50, PASS)

You looked over some files regarding who you could fill in the spot left in your Research Department as its head, and I found a few candidates who seemed like they'd make a good fit. They certainly seemed smart enough for it and could bring in their own expertise to assist.

Miyano Shiho, a brilliant biochemist who was actually relatively young. In fact, you were pretty sure she is the youngest of your three candidates, but her skills in her fields of biochemistry and medicine would certainly be a boon to the organization once you had her on board.

Egon Stetmann meanwhile is… an interesting mind to converse with on occasion. He is extremely skilled when it came to robotics, and you even noticed that he has some kind of idea to create drones based on the Biomorphs before his lab was destroyed by some group of radicals who had a religious objection with the idea. It would be an easy job to scoop him up and see what he could do, especially once he got a look at the Cybernetics data and your Slayers.

The last candidate… honestly her reputation scared you. Doctor Moira Vahlen is apparently, the one called in to perform autopsies on Biomorphs during the early days of the invasion and helped find out a few things regarding their unique biology, though you doubt she ever had a specimen as perfectly preserved as the Titan in your care. Actually, you could probably use that to bribe her to come in and help you study the Biomorphs. You just hoped the stories you heard about her regarding her intense interest weren't all true…

[ ] Miyano Shiho: - Biology Expert: +20 to Biological Research Rolls (Medical and Mutant research)
[ ] Egon Stetman: - Robotics Expert: +20 to Robotics Research Rolls (Cyborg and Slayer research)
[ ] Moira Vahlen: XenoBiology Expert: +20 to XenoBiology Research Rolls (Biomorph and Titan research)

Industrial

[X] Secondary Laboratories: "I can definitely add more labs to the base if you want that, Director. I'm sure the Whitecoats will like that, and maybe yourself too, eh?" (Cost: 200. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 50. Reward: Secondary Labs Built, +5 to Research Actions and +1 Re-Roll on Failed Research Actions.)

(Roll: 70 vs DC: 50, PASS!)

"Yes, I can already feel it! Soon, more SCIENCE! will be done!" You said, grinning as you looked over the reports from the construction crews and engineers who were building up the secondary labs for your research teams. It was wonderful, absolutely wonderful!

"You're a right scary girl when you smile, you know that right Director?" Emily Chambers asked as she looked at you, clearly not understanding the greatness you'd be able to accomplish. You did school your features however as you should be professional. Let your genius shine through with your actions and creations, not words and boasting. You already compiled a list of equipment that you want your lab to have, more precision equipment that the main lab doesn't have as it was meant for general research.

Result: Secondary Labs 1 Turn till completion

[X] Secondary Workshops: "Having more places for my boys and girls to work their stuff is going to be something you won't regret, Director!

(Roll: 30 vs DC: 50, FAIL)

"There, there, Ms. Chambers." You said while giving the girl a pat on the back as she drowned her sorrows away after the incident with a forklift and the uncertified driver manning it. You had no idea those were so dangerous, or destructive!

"That idiot set us back a whole month! We'll need to reorder supplies and tools to make up for what it cost us!" Chambers despaired. This is the second time one of your departments has had one thing go okay and the other end up facing a setback, you hope this won't be a thing…

Result: Secondary Workshop 2 Turns till completion

Diplomacy

[X] Get a Department Head (Diplomacy): You ain't doing crap without someone to run this show, you need to get someone and fast! (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Diplomatic Department Head, +1 Diplomacy Action Slot.)

(Roll: 87+10=97 vs DC: 50, ARTIFICIAL CRIT!)

You actually knew just who to call for this place. You are certain your old friend can kick this department into shape and make it work in ways that would baffle your own brilliant mind.

It only took a few days for her to come around and be escorted into the HQ's PR Department.

"I see you need me to work some miracles for you again." Your friend said with a knowing look. "At least I'll have something resembling a team this time instead of having to do all the work myself, but it is good to see you again Laura."

"And you're getting a bigger paycheck too, that's a bonus all on its own!" You remarked, much to your friend's amusement from the look in her eyes. "Josephine, you'll do wonders here."

"Just like how I managed to convince people to give your Slayer's a shot?" Josephine asked with a raised eyebrow, a small smirk on her face. "Laura, you make sure I have the funding and the material, and I'll handle the rest."

"I hope you haven't lost that Golden Touch and Silver Tongue of yours, otherwise we're both going to look silly." You said, scratching the back of your head. "And broke, because running this place is expensive!"

Result: Gain +1 Diplomacy Action
Josephine Traits
Silver Tongue, Golden Touch: Actions that involve acquiring additional Funding will have a +20 added to their Rolls. On Success, add an extra +200 to Funding reward.

Smoothing Ruffled Feathers: Gain 1 Re-Roll for Failed Diplomacy Actions with a +10.

Intrigue

[X] Get a Department Head (Intrigue): You need someone to handle this spy and assassin stuff, you are just frankly not the person to run any kind of shadowy secret agent operations. (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Covert Ops Department Head, +1 Intrigue Action Slot.)

(Roll: 98 vs DC: 50, NAT CRIT!)

You blinked as you saw someone at the desk of where your Head of Covert Ops would be working, yet you distinctly don't recall hiring anyone for the position yet…

And yet from what you've been hearing, the guy just showed up one, took charge of your covert ops division, and was basically doing the work of the whole department by himself. He looked up and nodded to you. "Director, I see you're doing well. Intel reports should already be on your desk regarding important matters that would be relevant to the organization." He said as though he was meant to be there.

It honestly made you wonder if you just somehow never noticed him before or if was already out getting intel when you took charge. It wouldn't even be surprising if that man who told you that you only had two department heads had forgotten about a third, they certainly made themselves sound incompetent.

Still…

"I don't recall hiring you…" You said, wondering if you should pull out the taser you had on you, or the handgun.

"Technically I am on loan, your search for a head of this department reached my superiors and they thought I'd make the best fit. Normally I'd keep to a cover, but it was recommended that I'd be more open with you in this matter." He said.

"I… see. Well then, I'll just keep an eye on you, just in case." You said as you looked at the man. "You got a name?" He looked up from his desk and the papers on it and gave you a look.

"You can call me <Twilight>, Director."

Result: Gain +1 Intrigue Action
<Twilight> Traits
Forger of Faces: +20 to Intrigue Actions when Infiltrating Organizations and Intel Gathering.

Mission Multi-Tasking: You can take an Extra Action when all Action Slots are Used.

Interlude: Practice Run
Practice Run

[X] Slayer Coordination: "Director, with your permission I'd like to run some drills and mock missions to help with coordination between our conventional forces and the Slayers. Last thing we want is for either one to get in the other's way during a real operation." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Coordination between Conventional and Slayer Units improves, decreased chance of acquiring a Malus during operations.)

(Roll: 82 vs DC: 50, PASS)

You looked at the three individuals who had been given the honor of piloting your darlings… and noticed something immediately, well several things actually, but the thing they all had in common was that all three of them didn't look military. "Huh, this is unexpected." You remarked as you looked them over.

Good god, you could feel the protagonist vibes just radiating off of them! What a strangely mesmerizing experience. Before you could go on a mental rant about something that would likely prove to be a waste of your time like in your college days, you turned your attention to the head of your military department. An older gentleman by the name of Felix Adams, who you are at least 50% sure is British because he had a fondness of tea and of the accent you managed to pick up at times. "Commander, could you explain this? Not really complaining but I'm more confused than anything else. I would have figured that the brass would have wanted soldiers in the pilot seats."

"Director, while unconventional, these three have shown a high level of tolerance when engaging in combat on a Titan scale, an almost instinctual level of understanding over how to operate a Slayer unit despite the control interface, and remarkable bravery in the face of danger." Commander Adams said, and you think he might have managed to throw in a small barb at you somewhere in there. "They have placed their lives on the line for the planet, for humanity itself, just as our conventional forces have."

You give the trio another look, seeing the blonde and the guy looking resolute while the girl with silver eyes (huh, that's rare) seemed a bit nervous. "Yeah, that checks out I guess." You shrug before grinning. "Anyway, before we get started, how about we properly introduce ourselves? While I have read your file before now, I feel that face-to-face introductions are a better way to get to know each other. I'll get us started. I am Doctor Laura Thompson and you can call me Director Thompson or Doctor Thompson. You may know me as the one who designed the Slayers and while I am very proud of my creations, there are still plenty of room for improvements. Which is why we are here to today, to test your performance in the Slayers in a simulated environment as well as find any aspect of my Slayers that could be improved."

You thank your time spent public speaking for your Doctorate Degree to allow you to talk fairly professionally yet also lax enough as to not make the pilots nervous. You had a much harder time keeping your composure in front of stone-faced government officials when you were presenting your Slayers to them when Titans first made their appearance. "So, who wants to introduce themselves first?"

The blonde stepped forward and introduced herself, "My Alicia Parks, however, you may call me Alice. It is a pleasure to meet you, Doctor Thompson." As she offered her hand, you feel like you are speaking to a consummate professional as she has a strong tone that you'd hear from voice actors playing lead characters in anime.

"Likewise," you said as you shake her hand. "I read from your file that you are very competent close quarters fighter."

"That is correct, my father was a member of the Special Air Service, and he taught me everything I know about melee combat. Those skills transfer very well in fighting the Titans."

"Glad to hear it, how about the rest of you?"

"Uh, hi." The girl next to Alice spoke up next. "Uh, my name is Rebecca Rogers and you can call me, uh you can just call me Rebecca." As she nervously twiddles her fingers, you feel a sense of kinship to a fellow introvert. You remember a time when you are as shy as she was before you trained yourself to be more confident in university.

"Hello, Rebecca. Your mother talked a lot about you during her time as my test pilot." You see her eyes soften and her demeanor turned sad when you mentioned her mother.

She was your test pilot for your first prototype Slayer and she did an excellent job putting it through its paces. The two of you became friends not long after, mostly due to Samantha's naturally friendly nature. Unfortunately, before the 1st generation could enter production the invaders launched their largest assault up to that point. The organization managed to beat them back but suffered heavy casualties. In that battle, she became the first Slayer Ace as she defeated 5 Titans. The Titan body currently on ice in your possession is actually from that battle, when Samantha snapped its neck at the start of the battle, leaving it relatively intact.

"She did?"

"She did. After the exercise, you can visit my office and I can tell you all about her time as my test pilot." You watch her nod enthusiastically before you move your attention to the final pilot.

"Ryan Anderson, nice to meet you ma'am." Ryan said while offering a lazy salute and a kind smile.

"Likewise," you nodded and continued, "however, I heard that you are the main reason we are burning through our stockpile of servo motors at a very alarming rate, which is costing the organization a lot of money to replace."

His smile turned sheepish as his salute turned to the classic head scratch. "Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. In combat, I just block out all distractions and only focus on winning."

"Well, once we develop new and improved Slayer, I doubt it would continue to be a problem." At least you hope so.

"Now that introductions are out of the way, how'd you like riding around in my darling Slayers? Honest feedback is the backbone of the scientific method. Any criticism you can give me will go a long way in improving my babies." You asked while pulling out a notebook and pencil from within your ever-present lab coat.

"It's an impressive machine." The Ryan said, giving a polite smile. "Its ability to move so fluidly for its size is good for handling Titan, but… I feel like it's not yet at its full potential."

"Oh? Go on." You said as you made notes on what the pilots were saying.

"I've noticed that when I try to pilot my Slayer to the best of my ability, it seems to have difficulty keeping up with how hard I push it." He said, looking a bit apologetic. "The engineers in the Forge have made their opinions on the matter known."

"The 'Forge'?" You asked, raising an eyebrow. Commander Adams caught your attention with a cough to clear his throat.

"It's the name being given to the dedicated facility for the Slayers, Director. The Forge of Giants, I believe, is the full title." Ryan explained to you. You nodded to show you understood before turning back to the other two pilots.

"I take it you have similar criticisms?" You asked them, and it was Alice who spoke up first.

"Yes, I find that I have a similar problem to Ryan." She said "My slayer lacks the ability handle when I push it during the melee, I'd like to request that adjustments be made to increase its capabilities in that field, Director."

"Uh, well I actually have a different problem?" Rebecca said, actually raising her hand to catch your attention. "I think what you've made is really incredible, it's a giant robot that can move like in the shows! But… well, it's still kind of slow?" She cringed a little as she said it.

"My darlings are still growing, and I need to know how to help them to grow. You don't have to feel nervous giving honest feedback." You said, attempting to reassure the girl that you weren't going to be mad.

Still, it sounds like they each have their own preferences in how they fight… maybe they needed more specialized Slayers instead of a generalized upgrade for all of them, you could certainly do that too. For now, it appears Ryan and Alice want stronger more robust Slayers while Rebecca wants a lighter and faster Slayer.

Right now, your 1st generation Slayers were designed to use as much off the shelf parts as possible to both minimize the need for specialized parts and allows them to be assembled in any nation with a developed industrial base. Of course, a Slayer can't be built in someone's backyard, but a nation with multiple factories can assemble a Slayer in about 4-6 months after they import the necessary parts. Thus, while you do love your creation, it was a hodgepodge design that could barely fit all of the systems necessary to make it work while still being under the maximum weight limit.

While both problems could be fixed by upgrading their servo motors which would allowing your Slayers to carry thicker, more reinforced limbs or to just allow it to move faster in general. But the 1st generation is fairly full as it is, you would need to shave weight down so that you could have room for upgrades. Using lighter but stronger materials for the armor, a smaller yet more powerful generator, or just replace as many components as possible with a lighter and stronger alternative. You will have to do some calculations to find the optimum solution for this later.

"Thank you for your feedback. However, as a scientist I know for a fact that the best way to gather data with a field test. I'll be able to get a better idea on how to improve my darlings by seeing you in action alongside our boys on the ground, so let's get started!" You said, excited as you looked at the pilots with a smile answered with determined nods from your three pilots.

As they enter their Simulator pods, you turn to Commander Adams and asked, "So what's on the menu for this drill?"

The Commander leads you to the nearby operations room before answering, "Standard Invasion Defense. Two Titans and a load of Biomorphs against everything we have along a cordon. The objective is to defeat all Biomorphs and Titans while preserving as much of our forces as possible."

The Operations room is currently manned by a few technicians, with a central computer with several monitors arrayed around a seat. You watch as the Commander took a seat and put on a headset with a mic as the screen showed an isometric view of the simulation environment. This set up looks a lot like those strategy games you remember spending all those late nights researching inspiration for your own Slayers.

"Alright listen up, for this simulation, you three will be facing off against a moderately sized Invasion. Your objective is to defeat every Biomorph by any means necessary, but it would be preferable to have as little losses as possible. I'll be in control of the conventional forces for this simulation. Any questions?"

"Uh, I have a question."

"Yes, Rogers."

"Will we need to have the helicopters patrol the edges to prevent any Biomorphs from slipping past our cordon?"

"Not necessary for now, I have set the Biomorphs to only attack your position with everything they have. You don't need to worry about any Biomorphs leaking for now."

"Understood." Alice spoke up this time. "We are ready to begin the simulation, Commander."

You took a seat at a nearby seat as everyone else monitor the simulation. On the screen you see a fair-sized horde approaching the cordon where the Slayers and military are in position. The 2 Titans are large and gorilla-like creatures with rhino-like hides and some boney plating along the arms from the form arm to the shoulders, and ram horns on their head. Their big, tough, and brutish. Very straight forward and simple creatures.

The Biomorphs are more varied, there are hundreds of 4-legged creatures the size of tigers called Manglers that can run as fast as cheetahs mangle anyone in their path. As well as a few Elephant-sized creatures covered in armor plating called Ultras that requires dedicated AT weapons to take down. And sprinkled between them all rolling balls of spikes the size of bears called Rollers that would plow through most barricades we build that aren't made of solid materials like steel or stone.

Supporting the Slayers' side are 20 units of 20 soldiers, 2 units of 4 of Helicopters and IFVs, and 1 unit of 4 tanks. While my Slayers could handle the Titans well enough, 400 soldiers armed with the old M5 Spear donated from the United States Army are usually enough to deal with the less armored Biomorphs. Of course, they also have heavier weapons like AT missiles, mortars, heavy machine guns, and Howitzers to even the odds.

But you know that you aren't well versed in military matters, so you'll leave their performance to Commander Adam, so you'll focus on your pilots and how they perform in their Slayers. Alice and Ryan immediately engaged their Titans, while Rebecca hanged back and help the troops by kicking Ultras or stomping at Biomorphs. Maybe You should design weapons kill regular Biomorphs, maybe a scythe, to lessen the burden of the conventional forces.

While Rebecca is stomping Biomorphs, Alice and Ryan are pummeling their Titan opponents with such ease that surprised even you. Alice uses her skill in hand-to-hand combat to strike, parry, and throw her Titan without getting hit herself. Ryan uses every part of his Slayer to deal damage to his Titan, from elbow strikes, kicks, and more. Now you understand why his Slayer required more frequent repairs than Rebecca and Alice's Slayers.

After 8 minutes, the simulation ended and all Biomorphs are eliminated. There are some light casualties, but Rebecca managed to focus on eliminating the Ultras and Rollers before they can damage the barricade. However, the Maulers were able to climb over the barricade using their dead as a ramp like in a Starship Trooper movie.

Overall, they did fairly well. Everyone did their own thing that they were good at, but this is what you expect for the level of cooperation. Your conventional army that is mainly made up of infantry are not equipped to help in a Slayer fight and vice versa your Slayers don't have proper tools to help the conventional forces with killing Biomorphs other than crushing them underfoot in melee.

As you follow Commander Adams out of the Operations Center, you watch as the pilots saluted Adams before he gave them his debrief as well as rating their performance. "Good work you three. You managed to take down the Titans fairly quickly before helping to finish off the remaining Biomorphs. Now for the criticisms. Ryan, you likely broke a lot of systems in your fight, try to keep in mind that we are still growing and that those funds used to repair your Slayer, could be used to fund other projects. Alice, I don't have much to say other than that it would be preferable if you could have killed the Titan much quicker by targeting its weak points like the neck, face, or spine. Rebecca, good job calling in the helicopters to support sections of the wall that look like they were about to buckle. I know you aren't as well verse in Titan combat as your teammates so it maybe wise to shore up that weakness before it becomes an essential skill at some point."

Once the debrief is done and the pilots are dismissed to take a break, you and Adams part ways as he'll need to write a report about the simulation results and you have other duties to attend to. Like pondering what should you prioritize in terms of upgrades for the Slayer.

World News/Rumor Mill, Turn 1.

Africa:
A research institution in Africa has begun to work on studying materials that have been placed under heavy exposure to the energies of Breaches, and have been making breakthroughs in creating a lighter weight and stronger alternative to titanium. Already, more funding is being directed to further the study of this new material.

Asia: The Chinese have begun to develop a potent new Missile Launcher system meant for the delivery of Anti-Titan level ordnance, and though no live testing has been done, simulation data shows promising results.

Europe: A very minor temporary Breach was torn open in Germany, however the wave of Biomorphic forces was small enough for local military forces to contain the situation, though still suffered casualties and fatalities from the Biomorph attack. Thankfully, no Titans appeared as past of the wave.

North America: The United States have passed a law requiring all individuals with meta-human abilities to register and reveal themselves to the government, much to public outcry and international disapproval. There is plenty of media explaining how badly this goes!

South America: A number of South American countries have faced sudden and violent coup attempts by forces that are highly suspected to belong to Breach Cult organizations. Stability in South America is shaken as the number of fatalities are being counted along with figuring out who fell or not.

Year 1, February (Turn 2)
You were giving your old friend, Josephine, a tour around the facilities of your HQ and the containment zone for the Alpha Breach to get her familiarized with her new workplace beyond her department section. "Alright, all that's left is the meeting room. It's almost time for the Monthly meeting so everyone else is waiting for us to review what's going on with the rest of the world and see if we need to put some fires out!" You said enthusiastically much to Josephine's amused if her expression and attempt to cover up a laugh was anything to go by.

The meeting room, or Totally-Not The Round Table as you like to call it, had a round table lined with chairs (with real fancy leather, and wheels) that had a Holo-Projector in the center of the table, making it look more like an 'O' than a filled in circle. Commander Adams was already seated as was 'Twilight', who he happened to be giving a stink eye. They either know each other or maybe Adams just doesn't like spies in general. Your newly hired head of R&D, Dr. Moira Vahlen, was chatting with Emily Chambers about something that you probably would be very interested in. Everyone turned their attention towards you and Josephine as you both entered the room.

"Morning everyone, what's the situation?" You asked as you moved to take your seat just as Josephine did the same.

"There was a minor breach over in Germany, but the local forces have managed to contain it and eradicate it. No Titans showed up, and the Biomorph swarm was small enough that the military wasn't overwhelmed by their numbers, but there were still losses." Commander Adams said, typing in a tablet and showing the report on the screen made by the Holo-Projector showing the casualties and damages.

"It seemed the Breach came as a surprise to the Germans as the Breach opened a few miles from a remote village. Luckily, Ramstein Airbase is also a few miles away and the US were able to mobilize fairly rapidly. It was a fairly even fight until the American AC-130s were in the air and provided accurate and overwhelming firepower to large clusters of Biomorphs that they never get the opportunity to mass up and overwhelm the hastily assembled cordon of German Leopard 3s, American Abrams, and Bradleys. After 3 hours of fighting the Breach closed itself, likely running out of juice. Once the stem of Biomorphs is exhausted, the cordon pushed in to methodically sweep and clear the area before a perimeter is established, sealing the area of the former Breach for study."

"I assume the German government is keeping the cadavers for their own research teams?" Dr. Vahlen asked, looking over the Biomorphs shown to have been a part of the incident.

"It's likely the US also wants a portion of the samples as their Air Force were instrumental in keeping the Biomorphs contained. If they haven't simply burned the bodies to minimize chances of some kind of contamination." Adams remarked.

"We may have more pressing issues compared to this incident." Twilight said, pulling up a pair of reports. "The United States has put into motion a registration act for the emerging population of enhanced individuals, the 'Meta-Humans', and are already seeing increased tensions as a result."

"Did none of them read any comics? That never ends well for anyone and causes one hell of a mess." Emily said as she picked up a different report before she cringed as she read through it. "Damn, those Breach worshiping psychos pulled off a coup? Multiple coups?"

"They attempted it at least; we still need to do some investigation to see what the extent of the damage is, but the fighting is still ongoing. News and social media stated that multiple South American countries have implemented Martial Law." Twilight said. "If we're lucky, and react quick enough, we may be able to mitigate the worst of it."

"While I am concerned for the actions of the people in charge of the US, we might be able to use it to our advantage, as much as I dislike it." Josephine said as she looked at her own tablet. "If we can extend a hand and earn the support of the Meta-Humans, we could earn some versatile and powerful allies."

"You do realize that we would be going against the wishes of the premiere superpower?" Twilight asked, raising an eyebrow at the head of Diplomacy.

"I think I can get them to redirect their efforts to be less… self-destructive." Josephine said. "But minor support and an outreach program could do a lot of good."

"What about the stuff coming out of Africa and China?" Emily asked, bringing forth her own reports and having the Holo-Projector show off a missile system and picture of some new materials. "Grabbing this tech for our own use could be really beneficial, if maybe expensive."

"Leave it to me"/"I'll handle it." Both Josephine and Twilight said at the same time, the two of them blinking and then looking at each other with narrowed eyes.

You let out a giggle at the scene.

"Right, and we have plenty of projects we got in the pipeline to get started, we just need to push the money to where it needs to go… anyone got ideas for that?" You asked after composing yourself, only to almost start laughing when both Josephine and Twilight moved to speak at the same time again.

Oh, this was going to be fun.

Facility Power: 5/20
Conventional Units: 18 Infantry Units (2 as Base Security), 2 Transport Helicopter Units, 2 Combat Helicopter Units, 2 IFV Units, 1 Tank Unit
Special Units: 3 Slayer Units
Credits: 800 (+200 Credits Per Turn)

Military: "Some good and bad came out of last month, but thankfully we salvaged the latter. While we do have capable pilots, I am very concerned that our conventional military would not have the firepower to effectively deal with hordes of regular Biomorphs. As the minor breach in Germany showed, tanks and aircraft are still necessary in dealing with large numbers of Biomorphs. Our boys can do good work with their AT Missiles and mortars, but I would rather have more tanks and aircraft for more firepower. In any case, I await your orders, Director." (2 Actions)

[ ] Armor Acquisition: "Director, we have only one tank unit. While the Slayers are certainly big and armored, they're meant to take on Titans. I recommend we acquire additional armored units before we end up needing them and not having them." (Cost: 200.

[ ] Bluecap Improvement, Infiltration: "Director, with the Bluecaps being supplemented with our soldiers, I'd like to start training them further in how to detect and deal with infiltrators. Maybe you can convince that new spook of ours to lend a hand? " (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Base Security Improved. Blue Caps can now detect and react to Infiltrators.)

Research: "Hmmm, these facilities are well put together and properly organized. I would like to get started on examining the specimen you have in cold storage, but if you believe my time is better spent elsewhere, I'll do what I can, Director." (2 Actions)

[ ] Chroming Up, The Basics: "While not my preference, these cybernetic implants seem to hold great potential. I can definitely see how this could be of use to our forces, Director." (Cost: 150. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 40. Reward: You can produce Medical Grade Cyberware for your Troops or for sale, Unlock additional Cyberware Actions.)

[ ] The Corpse of Giants: "Magnificent, the processes that this alien biology must be capable of maintaining such a creature of this size, I shall make sure that I use all of it to the utmost to uncover its secrets, Director." (Cost: 150, Consumes Preserved Titan Corpse. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 60. Reward: Large amounts of Biomorphic Data, Greater Understanding of Titan physiology, ???)

[ ] Small Samples: "I suppose we could find other uses for the specimen; I will try my best to not compromise the specimen too much in my studies, Director." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 60. Reward: Biomorphic Data, Basic Understanding of Titans, Titan Corpse is not fully consumed, ???)

[ ] Better Pilot Interface: "Ah, I take it you will be working on this? Well, I can try to lend whatever aid I can, but this isn't a field that I am overly interested in." (Cost: 150. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Slayers are easier to operate, Slayer Pilot Training DC reduced.)

[ ] Slayer Armory: "Another project for your Slayers? I suppose having a more varied arsenal would be useful. Perhaps I could help in some capacity…" (Cost: 200. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: Slayer Armament List Expanded.)

[ ] Advanced Materials: "Inspired by that news from Africa, Director? Having our own teams look into it should produce greater results with our proximity to the Alpha Breach." (Cost: 100. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 60. Reward: Advanced Materials Research Line Opened, New Actions Unlocked.)

[ ] Ace Custom: "Hmmm? Making different models of Slayers? Seeking to make more personalized units for our pilots perhaps? Not sure how much help I'll be in this, Director..." (Cost: 150. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 60. Reward: Can Build Slayers with different specializations, Power-Type & Speed-Type Slayer Unlocked.)

Industrial: "Sorry, Director. Me and my crew are going to have our hands full while working on those labs and the workshops. We should have some time next month though!" (2 Actions, Locked)

[ ] Slayer Production: "Well Director, while we might not have more pilots currently, I think that having a surplus of Slayers will be a good thing! Having spares in chase one of them isn't working right will certainly be better than not having them. And besides, if we have more now, then when we get more pilots, they won't have to wait too long." (Cost: 200. Time: 2 Turns. DC: 60. "Well, another mixed bag of failure and success this month." You said as you looked over the summary reports that detailed the monthly operations that you had approved of. You had already spoken directly with everyone, but looking over reports was part of your jobs and it was always possible someone remembered a detail or found something a bit later to add in.

As for what actually did happen…

[X] Armor Acquisition: "Director, we have only one tank unit. While the Slayers are certainly big and armored, they're meant to take on Titans. I recommend we acquire additional armored units before we end up needing them and not having them." (Cost: 200. Time: 1 Turn. DC: 50. Reward: More Tanks, along with a few other vehicles.)

(Roll: 18 vs DC: 50. FAIL)

"What do you mean we aren't getting any tanks?" You looked over to Commander Adams as he barked into the phone. "We are at the metaphorical and possibly literal gate of Hell, and you can't send us any armor support? I understand that militaries are building up local defenses, but… yes… I see… very well then, good day." Adams hung up the call and looked infuriated beyond belief. "Pencil pushing jackass…"

"Problems, Commander?" You asked, getting Adams attention. He stood up and composed himself in short order.

"Director, we may have run into an issue with acquiring ourselves some extra vehicles, the Americans have decided they can't afford to send any of their tanks our way to build up our forces at this time."

"Well… what about the Europeans?" You suggested, tilting your head. "It might cost more, but Josephine is working on that front, so we should be able to work something out."

"At least you aren't suggesting we grab some Russian tanks, though we could probably buy them for cheap." Adams said, which did give you an idea.

"Well, I'm sure our engineering department could get even mass produced and cheap tanks into proper shape given enough time. So, it might work out… it'll just be a longer-term investment."

First you were put through an extensive list of scanners and sensor equipment that honestly felt like it should be in one of the labs with how powerful and efficient they were, multiple background checks were made, and medical data was brought up and compared to your current state to check of inconsistencies and possible implanted listening devices or gadgets hidden in the body. Then you were escorted by a squad of five Bluecaps through the halls and lead to a briefing room where Adams was sitting down.

"Were the dozen metal detectors each attuned to specific ranges of metals really necessary?" You asked him as you sat down. "Or whatever scanner set up used that made my teeth feel tingly?"

Adams said nothing, actually he didn't even seem to be breathing. Before you could start to feel alarm, the door you came in through opened and another Adams walked in! "Good to see the decoy is more effective." He said, moving over and casually popping the head off the now revealed fake. "Still a prototype though, figuring out how to simulate normal breathing and allowing for remote communication without giving the game away is still causing trouble."

"Well, I see you've been thorough." You remark, doing your best not to look at the detached decoy head that was just a little too lifelike for your comfort. "And this is just for checking for infiltrators going in for a meeting, I assume procedures for when one is found and tries to escape are more… physical."

Adams nodded. "Not that my men have been able to catch our Head Spook whenever he gets involved directly with the tests. To be honest, I wasn't sure he was the real deal until I saw him in action, Director."

"You know Twilight, Commander?" You asked him, and the man sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Only rumours, he's a bit of a 'legend' in the intelligence world and you end up hearing about those kinds of folk when you get higher up the chain of command. The fact he's here just ends up reinforcing how bad the situation is given how he's one of the best in the business."

"You make him sound like a regular James Bond." You remarked, looking at the commander.

"Not far off, but with a bit more fake names and faces instead of gadgets and secret bases." Adams said with a shrug. "Thankfully not everyone is a real-life super spy, and the regular agents are easier to catch with the new protocols and training the Bluecaps got. Naturally the forty soldiers that were part of the training know it too, so it might help in case they get deployed and have to spot some hostile who know how to be stealthy."

"Hopefully not the kind that can go invisible…" you added, before wondering if you just jinxed yourself.

"Whoever came up with these is a genius… and probably a paranoid wreck of a human being." You couldn't help but say as you looked over the data that. As it turned out, had far more in it than initially expected, but all under some of the heaviest encryption you had ever seen.

"I can't help but concur, Director. I only discovered this after going over the basic prosthetic designs. Even with just those, a full tactile sensory array allowing for accurate touch-based sense, without any noticeable degradation…" Vahlen said as she pulled up the data. "Artificial eyes with full range of motion and sight, prosthetic noses with complete olfactory receptors, even tongues that would allow someone to be able to taste things as well as anyone else. This is miraculous technology."

"Not the mention, these designs would allow for no real difference between a prosthetic and the real deal. No lag, no desynchronized movements, and look at this!" You pulled up a file that showed off the schematics. "It's all completely waterproof! You could take a shower with this stuff still attached and not get shocked!"

"And this is all from unencrypted files that still needed a month to sort through and reorganize into something that makes sense." Vahlen said. "What could lay just beyond the encryption, what else has this mind come up with?"

"And why haven't we heard so much as a whisper about this stuff?" You couldn't help but think out loud. "This is the kind of stuff that would revolutionize the medical scene, get your name forever engraved in the history of scientific achievement… yet we don't know who came up with it."

Looks like you had a mystery on your hands. At least the very least, we could sell what we learned to help alleviate our money problems.

(Roll: 74+10+20=104 vs DC: 60. Artificial CRIT!)

"What. The. Fuck." You said as you looked over the data Vahlen managed to extract from the samples taken from the Titan. You then looked up at her and repeated yourself. "What the fuck."

"I was surprised as well, though my reaction was not quite so… crude." Dr. Vahlen said as she looked at her data pad. "These Biomorphs are truly fascinating creatures, and to think they held such potential with their genetic structure. It's magnificent."

Magnificent was one way to put it, standing in defiance of your understanding of what is biologically possible is another! If what you were seeing was correct, then this Titan not only had the genetic information of itself, but also every other Biomorph you have on record, and more that you don't! Not only that, but it was apparently completely possible to use Biomorph biomass and genetic information to augment human beings, creating a form of bio-engineered super-soldier that could be modified and given more enhancements… theoretically at least.

"So, we have the genetic library of every Biomorph strain they currently have as well as a way to augment people into super soldiers because Biomorph cells are want to assimilate to every living tissue." As you looked over the database of various strains of Biomorphs that have been identified and had their genetic makeup mapped out.

"Correct. With the right stimulation of their cells, we could coax it to take whatever form we want, implant the desired augmentation into a host, and then the cells would do it's best to integrate itself." Vahlen commented while she is looking through a microscope.

"How likely are the cells to take over the host? I've seen enough sci-fi horror movies to not dismiss that risk." You want super soldiers as much as the next military organization, but if they lost control and attacked their allies then they are detriment and would make your job a lot harder than it needed to be that you might as well not bother.

"So long as the host is still alive and the augment received enough nutrients to sustain itself, it should stay docile." Vahlen still haven't taken her eyes of her microscope like it wasn't even worth her full attention.

I can guess what would have happened if the Biomorph cells decided to take over. I decided to change the subject before you lose my appetite. "So, that genetic library, do you think you can grow more Biomorph cells?"

"Not without a dedicated facility and a large amount of safety precautions but it should be theoretically possible; however, we would need living Biomorphs first to harvest live samples from to do it. The dead Titan doesn't have any living cells to multiply."

"Then how did you find out that Biomorph cells can assimilate with any biological tissue if they aren't alive?"

"Oh, I grafted a few milligrams of Biomorph tissue on some lab rats. The tissue integrated itself very well and so far, there haven't any adverse effect on the mice."

You just stand there and gaped at how dangerous it would have been if we had a runaway Biomorphic mouse that could have been as dangerous as that killer rabbit in the Monty Python movie. "Should I post a few guards in case the mice become too Biomorph-y?"

"That won't be necessary, all of the experimented mice have been put on autopsy tables and incinerated." Well, that's one worry dealt with.

You look over at the Titan remains nearby and ask a very important question. "We still have some parts of the Titan still in the freezer. Any plans on what you would use them for?"

"Mostly identifying the genetic markers of potential augments. Once we know what each genetic sequence does, we should be able to select which augment to give our soldiers." Here's hoping that it doesn't turn our own troops into Biomorphs. With nothing left to discuss you left Vahlen to do her thing.

Emily gave you a look while having a blush… strange, what was with that expression she was making? Did you say something weird? You had a coffee maker in your office, build yourself in fact! Makes a good drink out of even subpar materials…Josephine probably hoarding all the good stuff.

"Well, that nearly ended in disaster, but I managed to clear things up and get it all sorted." "Now I have proper team, it should be a simple matter of handling future operations in the battlefield of words and politics."

"The pen is mightier than the sword, and all that stuff." You said, while glaring at the mug of coffee she held. "So, what happened that nearly, as you put it, ended in disaster."

Josephine sighed. "One of the skeleton crew that was part of the assignment may have used some… unflattering language and a number of faux pas that would have caused some issues for us in the future. But don't fret, I took care of it after I caught it before the message could be sent out."

"And the idiot who nearly screwed up everything?" You asked.

"Twilight." You looked at the man with a blank expression on your face as you said his code name.

"Director." The super spy said with a nod and cool expression that didn't betray a single thought.

"Why is there a child in the base?" You decided to address the metaphorical elephant in the room, glancing over to the… girl? You think they're a girl, currently making the rest of the nearly formed Cyber-Warfare Sub-Division gawk at the code wizardry they were performing. Even you had to admit that you were impressed by the talent on display.

"That's Ed, they're part of Cyber-Warfare." Twilight answered, and part of you wanted to throttle the man even if you knew he could probably break you in half and turn you into a pretzel if you tried that.

"Where did you even find him?"

"Actually, he found us. He sent us an application as well as overhauling our entire Cyber-security twice from outside the base. I had one of my agents pick him up at Melbourne Airport after I read his application."

You had no words. You knew that your Cyber-Security is garbage, but you didn't know someone as young as him is able to overhaul it twice without us noticing.

"What do we have on him anyway?"

"Nothing, he doesn't have a digital record anywhere but when asked he said he was an orphan and was part of a human experiment, but he refused to elaborate further, likely to have severe trauma from his time as a guinea pig."

You stayed silent as we both watched him write code with his feet while the rest of the Cyber-Warfare division watched in awe. "Keep an eye out for any more unethical human experiments and shut it down if you find them. No human being deserves to be treated like a lab rat."

Twilight merely nodded as you both continued to observe Ed.

Twilight said, and you think you detected the faint tone of frustration from the man. "Oh, nothing important!" Emily said, somewhat like she was trying to hide something she thought embarrassing.

"I admit that I don't know you very well and seeing as we're going to be working together to keep mankind from kicking the bucket for the foreseeable future, I thought to correct that." You said, leaning back in your chair and looking at Emily. "So, any hobbies or particular ambitions you feel like sharing?"

"Well, I like to tinker with machines even as a kid I'd play with electric motors than doll houses. My dad own a repair shop and I spent a lot of days watching him fix cars. It's why I wanted to work on the Slayers in the first place, they are just soo cool. I mean, when I got my mechanical engineering degree, I thought the coolest thing I'd work on are jet engines at Lockheed or something, but when you revealed the Slayers I was like, 'Whoa I want to work on that'. I mean how could I say no to giant fighting robots?"

You chuckled as Emily gushed over your baby. "So, what do you think of my babies? Did they meet your expectations?"

"Honestly, I'm surprised everything runs smoothly with how a lot of the internal components were from off the shelf parts of various industrial equipment."

"Unfortunately, we didn't have the time and resources to build a Slayer from scratch with the Breach and Titans, so I had to spend a couple of months asking around for specifications of various parts and redesigning my Slayer so that all of the parts fit and that it actually works with the stuff on hand."

"That must have been torture."

"It was. Luckily, I had a bunch of assistants to compile a list of parts and put them into 3D models so I can tinker around with it. After we got a working design and the simulation testing ran smoothly, we had to build the thing and it was whole different can of worms. But now that we aren't under a strict deadline now that we have 3 Slayers operational, we can take our time to design Mk2 to be more streamlined and less cobbled together."

"Ooh I have a few ideas I came up with when I reviewed the Slayer's blueprints and I wanted to run it by you first, is that okay?"

"By all means." As you let her talk about the various upgrades and improvements to give to you Slayers, you find you do enjoy your time together as she is a great person to bounce ideas with. Eventually you both returned to your respective stations with a promise to talk again once you have some free time.
