The Test 1: The Man with the Scar On His Chin.
The man who was your genin teacher was a young man, almost the same age as your father if you had to guess. His black hair was spiked down the side like he had placed some honey or gel to make it hard to grab. The scar on his chin made an x like it marked the spot of a blade that nearly killed him.
The flak vest he wore was damaged, there were frays and cuts on them, and you could the metal plates that were poking out from it. Filling his vest's pockets were tools of the trade, explosive tags, ninja wire, first aid kids, maps, and even a book of some sort.
His pants legs were we maintained, though only with medical gauze and ninja wire.
Danzo Shimura was the stereotypical ninja commander, in dress at least.
The man then spoke, his voice was slightly raspy. "Team 6… follow me." He ordered.
You, Tsunade and Nanako stood up and followed your sensei out of the door.
Then you followed him out of the academy, picking up the pace to match your teachers Nanako had to start jogging, while you and Tsunade just speed up your walking pace.
You continued walking through the village, a few people greeting Danzo as he walked past them. Danzo even responded to a few of them. He didn't give a very long response, but from his gaze, he knew a few of them, either as teammates or from just spending time around this part of town.
A few genin saluted to him, but their eager faces dropped when he did not return the salutes.
Then you reached one of the training grounds. Training Ground Six was, like every other training ground, surrounded by a large chain link fence with razor wire on top of it. Its layout was similar to most of the other training grounds in this area, a small clearing among a small forest of trees, with a small pond on the western side to practice water walking.
But besides the nature that it allowed students to train in, the village bureaucracy was also very known to all who came to use it.
There was a sign that held the training ground number on it, with a large chalkboard with the names of who reserved the training ground for the week.
It was empty save for Danzo's name and the name: Team 6.
Why there wasn't just a sign in sheet for people to sign in and sign out from was a mystery to you. It would save Lord Hokage time and paperwork if he just did that.
Danzo opened the gate and your team piled into the training ground, heading towards the clearing in the middle.
Danzo than took a deep breath. "Sit down." He ordered.
You sat first, crossing your legs and looking up to the man who was now your sensei. Tsunade sat behind you, her back turned slightly to cover your blind spots. Just like on the road, you both understood that something might be amiss, and being safe was better than being ambushed.
Nanako, however… just plopped down on her butt, panting slightly.
Danzo took another breath. "I'm going to be blunt… You are all liabilities and should quit now."
That made you raise an eyebrow. What the hell?
Sure you were mute, but you had worked around your handicap, know both Konoha sign and a genjutsu that allowed telepathic communication.
Hell, you were not barred from the academy when you joined because of your disability,... It was one of the key reasons that you and your friends escape.
Nanako for her part gritted her teeth and sat up straight. "Hey! We passed the academy! We're ninja on the records!"
Danzo nodded. "Yes, you are… however, that does not mean you are ready to be ninja or Kunoichi. That final say belongs to me."
He pointed at Nanako. "Nanako. You have terrible stamina, and a lack of drive to improve said stamina. In a battle against an opponent, all they would need to do is outlast you and then you would die." His blunt comment made Nanako pale. "You also are underweight for your size, lacking in fiber and protein which will not allow your muscles to grow as quickly, and put your body in danger with deadly diseases that you can catch in the field." He shook his head. "I suggest changing your diet to a more protein heavy and fiber-rich blended diet, so you can start becoming more healthy. As for your stamina, I would begin running laps around the village, pacing yourself so you do not get tired. Once that is done, increase your pace. The endurance running will be the way for you to increase that stamina."
He then pointed to Tsunade. "You are a clan heir, and yet you do not know every member of your clan by name." That fact made Tsunade look hurt as if she did know them all by name, even though she was a princess to them. "You see people as beneath you unless they gain your attention, or they have something you want or need. That is not a sign of a good clan head or a leader, it just shows favoritism and pettiness that you must be above." He then took a deep breath. "A leader must be able to make choices that affect all, no matter what. And that means knowing your weakness."
He then pointed at you. "You are mute. Communications is key to survival as a shinobi. That lack of it, even if you have fixed it with sign language and genjutsu means nothing if your hands are bound and you are out of chakra. You also rely heavily on your powers of genjutsu. That is but one skill a Kunoichi must master. You must master Taijutsu, Ninjutsu…" He paused and glared into your eyes. "Bloodlines."
The way he said bloodlines made you feel fear. It was like he was expecting you to snap and go crazy at any moment.
"Jerk," Kagami stated quietly. "I'm not going to snap and go crazy without prompting… I will snap and go crazy when you tell me to snap and crazy."
"To rely only on one will leave you vulnerable, and then you will be dead." Danzo paused. "I have told you what I know about you," You doubted that very much. "But I want to know about you from you. Tell me what your likes… your dislikes." You saw him pull out a note card. "And your dreams for the future."
"You don't do this a lot… do you?" Nanako asked.
Danzo gave a sigh and then gave a small laugh. "First-time jitters."
You didn't know if he was lying or telling the truth.
Nanako spoke first. "I am Oda Nanako. I like the summer sun and painting dragons. I dislike hot food and food that is hard to eat and being forced to go beyond the limit of my abilities when there is no need to. My dream is to work in the village strategy room or diplomatic corps."
That piqued Danzo's interest as if he did not expect it. He gave a smile… which creeped you out. The man did not seem like the smiling type.
"Tsunade." He said your friends name quietly.
Tsunade gave a glare at you, but you shrugged. You didn't know if he was a threat or if you should trust him. But you decided to nod. He was your teacher, your sensei… the trust needed to be given… and earned.
"I am Senju Tsunade. My likes are my friends and allies that I made on the journey home, and Medical ninjutsu. I hate people who think I'm just some princess of my clan who doesn't even know me." Tsunade glared at Danzo. "And I want to be a medic and save people."
Danzo spoke. "You want to become a medic…" That made Tsunade nod. "That's good... I know a number of situations where a medic would have been useful in my time…" There was mist in his eyes as if he remembered something. But then it quickly went away as they narrowed in resolve. "Do not lose that drive to be one."
He then looked at you. "What about you Ayako… what do you have to say to your comrades?"
