[X] Impressed. You play it cool. That was a powerful attack there. Was that magic?

(Best cure for writer's block? Absolute boredom.)
[] Impressed. You play it cool. That was a powerful attack there. Was that magic?

You raise an eyebrow at the girl, clearly impressed making note of her unusual ability. If it was truly amazing, your mouth would be hanging open, but that wouldn't be cool. You had checked, your mouth was certainly closed. After all, it should be obvious to everyone that you were cool. Even if it had been open, your scarf would surely hide it from view, but you didn't have to worry because your mouth was clearly closed. It would take more than a slight, somewhat short girl summoning and firing a ginormous gun out of nowhere at a huge wolf that you barely were beating back to make your mouth hang in amazement, which of course it wasn't, seeing as how your mouth was, in all meanings of the word, closed. It would take Commodore Perry himself to open it!

Moving on from your firmly closed mouth, you finally have a moment where something isn't happening. You take a moment to dispel your gauntlets and boots, and take a good look at this girl who could see you, talk to you, and summon large weapons to shoot evil wolf spirits with. She's nearly a full head-shorter than you, and while you were slightly tall for a girl, that still made this girl rather short. She's wearing what is obviously a school uniform, with a white colored shirt, blue blazer with matching skirt with some orange detailing, and a rather bright orange tie. Really, the only thing that makes her stand out is her very old fashioned haircut, commonly called a hime-cut, with her bangs neatly trimmed just above her eyebrows, two long sidetails and her hair in back was long enough to sit on. You realize that you've been staring for an uncomfortably long period of time, though the girl doesn't seem to mind, as she's still smiling at you.

"Was that magic? It was a pretty decent attack." you breech the silence, keeping your voice even. After all, it had been a one-hit technique. If that wasn't a decent attack, you didn't know how the word decent was supposed to be used.

"R-Really?" the girl's face lights up into an even bigger smile. "You t-think so?" she asks you, as she moves closer to you. And closer to you. And closer to you, until if she moved any closer she'd be touching you and she's too close and you'd like to move back but you can't because that wouldn't be cool so you have to just stand here. Not that you're uncomfortable. The truly cool are comfortable anywhere. The only option left for you is to look down into her smiling, slightly flushed face and reply.

"Yeah." you confirm. Did this girl think you were the type of person to think one thing and say another? The girl takes a step backwards and bows to you.

"I am Yukimiya Hasami, please be my friend!" she announces, still in a deep bow. You stare at her for a moment, before you realize that she's waiting for your response. Part of you wonders how long she'd stay like that, but it's not cool to leave people hanging.

"I am Kurohashi Kimiko, it's a pleasure to meet you," you introduce yourself, bowing slightly yourself, even though she can't see you. "I'll certainly be your friend, Yukimiya-san." you add after only a moment. After all, it would be uncool to reject such a heartfelt request!

Yukimiya's response surprises you, as she dramatically looks at you in shock, wraps her arms around herself and shivers. "S-so cold. Please, no need to be formal. Call me Hasami!" she punctuates this by pointing at you, as if there was no way to refuse.

[] That's way too personal! We barely know each other. But maybe you can call her Hasami-chan?
[] Compromise. You are being a bit formal, after all. Call her Hasami-san?
[] Heh. She's funny. Now you will call her Yukimiya-san until the end of time.

Yukimiya lets out a small gasp, and you notice the large Yakuza moving towards you, slowly. "Ginji-jisan, y-your arm!" she says, a look of horror banishes the smile she had just moments before. "Let me heal you!" she says as she rushes over to him.

"Heal me? More importantly, you're not hurt, are you Hasa-chan?" the swordsman, whose name was Ginji apparently, replied, looking very serious. Yukimiya shakes her head.

"No, I was protected." she turns her head towards you, and her eyes widen in surprise. "You're hurt too! Come over here, and I'll heal you both!" It doesn't sound like she'll take a refusal kindly, but you're a ghost. How is she even supposed to heal you? Sure it's magic, but who knows what a spell designed to heal humans will do to you.

Posting because I'm committing myself to this one. It's new, and seems like a very interesting idea.

Thoughts- Who's up for developing our Protagonist over time into a genuine Badass? It'll take a while of course, but it could be a rather col course of Character Development.

I'm not sure what you're getting at, as the point you appear to be driving at would include the assumption she's not already badass.

Our character is a badass, but it's a sliding scale and we're at the low end. We have to make her grow as a person while doing a lot of amazing shit in order to climb so high up we break the scale and become the badass.

Shonen Protagonist, by default, develops into a badass.

That's kind of the whole point of Shonen genre unless they're already at max badass.

Clarification- There is a difference between hoping it will happen over time thanks to our GM doing the work, and us as players consciously choosing that direction and planning ahead to make it happen. Apologies for a poor choice of expression.

Author's note: When trying to update on time, don't push papers to the last minute when they are due on your update days. Amazingly, it hurts your productivity!

As a ghost, you're not entirely sure if you heal naturally anymore. Regardless, when in the position of having to question staying or going, you'd rather go and regret it than staying and having to wonder what if. You approach Hasami and give her a confirming nod to go ahead and heal you. She very gently places her right hand over your wound, while placing her left on Ginji's ruined arm. You glance at Ginji to see that he is watching Hasami intently, and impressively not showing any outward signs of pain. He seems to be rather familiar with Hasami already, though you wonder at the connection. Is she a mafia princess? Unaware of your musings, Hasami begins reciting in English.

"You can get there from here, though
there's no going home.
Everywhere you go will be somewhere
you've never been. Try this:"

As she recites, her hands begin to faintly glow orange. Judging by her face, she seems totally immersed in the spell casting. She probably would be unable to defend herself while she was reciting. It looks like it was a good decision to defend her during the fight, it gave her enough time to cast the spell to finish it off. You're not so sure how you feel about the amount of trust she placed in you once she started casting it though.

"head south on Mississippi 49, one—
by—one mile markers ticking off
another minute of your life. Follow this
to its natural conclusion—dead end
at the coast, the pier at Gulfport where
riggings of shrimp boats are loose stitches
in a sky threatening rain."

The faint glow has become a bright orange light, spreading from her hands in a circle around your arm where you were cut. In contrast, Ginji's entire arm is enveloped in light, to the point where you can barely make out it's general shape. Your knowledge of English allows you to loosely follow what she is saying, but you have no idea what Mississippi or Shrimp boats have to do with a healing spell.

"Cross over the man-made beach, 26 miles of sand
dumped on a mangrove swamp—buried
terrain of the past. Bring only
what you must carry—tome of memory
its random blank pages. On the dock
where you board the boat for Ship Island,
someone will take your picture"

The light has condensed into complex moving machinery, similar in appearance to the gun. Orange light marks where each component meets the next, and the energy has become intense enough to let off a light hum. You don't let any of it reach your face, but you are a tad worried that if this does go wrong you wont have an arm afterwards. At best.

"the photograph—who you were
will be waiting when you return"

With the end of the incantation, the machinery on your arm vanishes in a flash of orange light. At first, you think it failed, which isn't surprising as you are a ghost, but then you notice that the bloodstain on your jacket is gone. You flex your arm and find that not only is it healed, but it feels like it had never been hurt in the first place.

"It's healed. So...so you can use magic Hana-chan? Can you explain this to me?" Ginji asks softly. He is looking at her with a mix of awe and worry.

"Oh! Well, you got me!" Hasami replies, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly. "I'm a magus, though, since I'm a girl, you could just call me a magical girl. Like Kimiko here!"

"Magus? Magical girl?" Ginji asks, his confusion clear on his face. He turns to you. "You're a...magical girl? But you're a spirit, or a ghost."

You cross your arms. "Correct. I am NOT a magical girl."

Hasami's face pales. "B-but you used magic! Those boots and gloves are obviously magic. You have to be a magus!" she turns to Ginji, her worry clear on her face. "You don't know what I'm talking about, do you?"

Ginji shakes his head. "No, this is the first I've heard of magic, outside of spirits."

"Oh. Oh no." Hasami says, wringing her hands together. "Is there a chance you could keep this a secret? I'm, uh, I'm supposed to wipe the memory of anyone who sees magic and isn't a magus, but I can't do that to you Ginji-jisan." she turns to you and takes one of your hands. Her fingers are surprisingly warm, but that may be because it's been so long since you touched anything. "It's okay that you know, since you're a spirit, right, Kimiko?"

"Of course. I'll keep your secret, Yukimiya-san," you say solemnly. Her face immediately flushes and she looks sternly at you.

"I said to call me Hasami!" she declares. You just give her a lazy smile in response. She stares at you for a few heartbeats before giving up in frustration. "And you'll keep it a secret as well, Ginji-jisan?" she turns back to Ginji, apparently having given up for the moment, though she has neglected to let go of your hand. Not surprising, as she does seem like...quite the airhead.

"I must tell Yukio-sama at least. And you should really tell the young master." Ginji says sternly. Hasami seems to think things over for a minute before nodding.

"Alright, I trust Yukio-basan to have good sense. I...I'll be over later to discuss this with Roka-kun, too, I guess."

Ginji nods, though you are able to pick up small signs of relief on his face. Seems he was worried about having his memory erased. Or was it he didn't want to fight Hasami? Either way, it seems things are settled now. You are a bit surprised when Ginji turns to address you, however.

"I'd like you to come back with me. We must apologize for assuming you were the evil spirit we were looking for. I admit I saw you with Hana-chan and rushed things a bit, out of concern for her safety. Still, that is no excuse," he bows in apology.

"Oh, well Kimiko should just come home with me then! I'll bring her over with me when I go to talk to Roka-kun!" Hasami adds, smiling widely.

We can't let the fair maiden go unescorted. That just wouldn't be cool. Also, we need to know about nonsense chants.
