Probably because it's the traditional way to eat them in a lot of places, and it means we don't have to waste firewood on them.
I'm unhappy with both of the choices, because angry bees have a chance to drive us from shelter, and a secure food source is high on my list of priorities. So even though I am unlikely to win...
[X] Just eat the mussels and stuff raw
[X] Decent sized meadow with an abundance of flax, wild oats, poppies, chicory, clover, and other useful grasses, legumes, and flowers.
Cheers. Then I'm going to start writing, or more likely, I'm going to get some sleep and then start writing, 'cause sleep deprivation does not a happy Eri make. Expect next post sometime tomorrow, possibly the day after if my errands take extra long.
[5] Try to light a fire to cook them
-[5] Use any dry looking grass as tinder and some appropriate looking stones
(Slightly altered, hope you don't mind.)
[4] Large limestone outcropping with some green gemstones in it. Perhaps suggesting a copper deposit nearby?
"So our next priority is fire, right? I'm not fancying the thought of eating those mussels raw." Lyudmila said wrinkling her nose. She looked around. "You didn't happen to gather any wood or tinder while I was away?"
Massimo shook his head, "Not really, I couldn't get any firewood with my arm like this, but I got some of that dry..." he paused and gestured to one of the piles of tide debris, "Whatever I should call it. Over there. It should work as tinder." He tried some sign combinations out "Sea plant? Sea leaf? That works."
"For seaweed, right?" Lyudmila asked.
"Yes. There should probably be some wood we can use too. On the beach." He sighed. "I need to add to my vocabulary again."
"We'll manage." Lyudmila gently wrapped her arms around him and buried her face at the crook of his neck. "We always have." She breathed in the familiar scent of him and felt the tension in his shoulders ease.
They stayed like that for a while. Then Massimo kissed the top of her head and pulled away so she could see him sign. "Thank you, love." He smiled at her, then looked at the camp. "We better get back to work".
"I can get the firewood if you can get some tinder," Lyudmila said, then added, "Oh, and maybe start clearing the ground. Wouldn't want to set the shelter on fire."

It was getting rather dark when Lyudmila returned, arms heavy with driftwood. She let the pieces fall in a heap and joined Massimo where he was sitting on the grass. "I feel kind of sad now," she said. "I just realised that all of this driftwood is probably from the Cormorant or ships like it."
Massimo gave her a one-armed hug. "I'm sorry", he signed.
"Don't be sorry, Sweetheart. It's not your fault." She sighed and got up again. "At least it's easy to find and plenty of it. Anyway. I'd love to sit here with you and watch the stars come out, but we've got to get this fire started."

Although it was a bit difficult finding rocks that they didn't think would burst in the heat, they didn't have much trouble getting the fire started. It wasn't quite like they were used to, using driftwood and dry seaweed. However when you live in a country as cold as Massimo and Lyudmila's you learn a thing or two about starting fires.
It caught quickly and soon they were enjoying a blazing campfire. Lyudmila carefully tried to dry the damp spots on her skirt from where she had carried the molluscs, and Massimo was checking the mussels and throwing any bad ones away.
"She's not going to be back this evening, is she?" Lyudmila put another piece of wood on the fire. "It's too dark now to travel. She would know that, right?"
"Don't worry, Love, Rossana wouldn't do anything really stupid. She'll be fine." Massimo looked up from the pile of mussels. "Done."
"Ah, thank goodness. I'm so hungry I could eat a horse." She picked up a handful of mussels. "So ... I don't suppose you've cooked mussels over a fire before?"
"Not like this, no". Massimo gestured to the fire. "It was always in a soup pan or something."
Lyudmila gnawed at her lip. "Neither have I. What do you think will work best?"
"I don't really know. We could dig them into the embers, but we'd have to be careful not to put out the fire or get ashes in them. Maybe wrap them in seaweed?"
That worked fine and since Lyudmila, in a fit of optimism, had collected enough for three, there was certainly enough food to go around. They spent a few minutes in quiet conversation and might have wanted to talk more, but after their meal, they wound down pretty quickly and decided to go to bed.
The shelter wasn't the most comfortable place to sleep, but Massimo had put the pillows out to dry, so they weren't sleeping directly on the ground, at least.

It is dawn the next day. What are you going to do? At least one of you should probably stay close to the camp so that it won't be empty if ... when Rossana returns.
(Pick up to three actions, or two for each of Lyudmila and Massimo if you're splitting up. Massimo may not explore or use his left arm. Use common sense, please.)
Are you splitting up? Yes/No
Splitting up may be dangerous, you are also more likely to succeed at rolls if you're together, but you get more actions if you split up.
[] Explore east to the seagull cliffs (Counts as two actions)
[] Explore west to the cliff-arch (Counts as two actions)
[] Explore inland (Counts as two actions, chance of getting lost)
[] Forage for edible fruits, berries and plants (Plant-lore roll, may cause poisoning if failed)
[] Gather firewood and tinder (Survival roll)
[] Gather blue mussels
[] Gather vines and make them into an extra rope for the sheep (or the ship) (fibre-craft roll)
[] Improve the camp
-[] How?
[] Write in? (Subject to approval)
These are not the totality of the options available to you. I expect you to look at what you have available and figure out more things to do.Write-ins are encouraged.
Okay, so I could have manage to get this done yesterday. However, I can procrastinate with the best of them. I got distracted working on a dungeon for my d&d game. This is, of course, no excuse, but, hey, at least it's not a year later.
With plant lore +4 I'm thinking that we should do the edible/useful plants roll. Not because we need the results right now, but because knowing what sort of plants the island contains will be useful later, as we'll already know what to look for.
[x] Forage for edible fruits, berries and plants (Plant-lore roll, may cause poisoning if failed)
[x] Gather firewood and tinder (Survival roll)
[x] Gather blue mussels
This sounds good. I think we should start improving the camp once she gets back.

So, you're pretty much in agreement, but only three of you have voted, so I'm going to give it maybe another twelve hours in case someone else wants to have their say.
Also @The Laurent & @Arkatekt you might want to roll 3d30 for my survivors table because you haven't yet. I'd prefer it if you rolled in the same post as your vote. If you get a thirty you get to reroll twice. If you roll a thirty on the reroll you get to help design a hero-level npc.
Actually I don't think @Diomedon and @Orisha91 have rolled either. Might want to do that. The more people roll the more survivors you might find.
Okay, sure, I'll roll! Nat 1s, baby! *crosses fingers for total failure.*
Edit: So I roll three more times, now? I was supposed to roll 3d30, and the first one was a 30, so that's a reroll and then two more times, right @Eri ? Or, reroll twice? Hrm, no clue what I'm going to do! Tell me what more to roll, because so far my luck has been good.

Can't think of much else to do until we get our other party member back. Hopefully we can get enough from this that we have some left over for tomorrow, so we can do other stuff.
