[X] Akira's parents are maybe not the best at providing food. You know this. So does Shinjiro-san. This is clearly a good time for the both of you to learn to make your own lunches.

Okay, yes, this is important...

At the very least, it can never be a bad thing for Akira to know how to feed himself.

March 23-26 2009
It comes to mind that just having Akira learn how to cook probably won't help with the lunch issue if he's not allowed in the kitchen. And that it'll be a long time before you have any pressing need to learn because you don't even have to guilt trip Shinjiro-san to get him to make you food anymore.

But there's no reason not to try, really, and it could be useful in the future, and so the two of you follow him into the kitchen while trying not to look too expectant and failing miserably.
There is such thing as stealth, and Joker of the Phantom Thieves is not it.
Shinjiro-san can't really think of a good reason to refuse the two of you, either, or he would have done it by now. As it is, he insisted that you wait until he changed the batteries in the smoke detector, just to be safe, and you honestly aren't sure if you should be offended or not.

"He... knows we won't burn the place down, right?" Akira asks, sounding a lot more nervous than he did when you suggested this.

You can't say you're entirely confident, either, and you know the reason that Shinjiro-san's so nervous. "I think he does, just... he runs his school's Cooking Club and apparently some of the people there aren't all that good at it." You've never gotten any actual stories out of him, just bits and pieces, but you think it might just be better that way.

Before you start, Shinjiro-san also insists that the kitchen be completely clean, that Koromaru not be on the same floor, and that Mitsuru-san goes to get groceries at some point in the near future just in case you run out of edible food while practicing.

That last bit especially seems unnecessary, but he's the only one in the building you can learn from, so you can put up with it.

You're going to be starting this simple. As simple as possible. More specifically, you're starting with rice balls.

"You don't even need a knife for these," Shinjiro-san remarks. "Which is good, because I'm not sure I trust a couple of kids with my knife set. And you shouldn't be able to set anything on fire or blow it up."
You know, we really should ask him what kind of stuff goes on at that club sometime.
Still, you suppose it could be worse. He could have decided to start you off with sandwiches. At least this is something that you didn't master back when you were six.

Akira, admittedly, probably could use some sort of course on how to make sandwiches, given how this is apparently the first time he's ever been allowed to so much as look through a refrigerator, but odds are he won't need much more than a demonstration. You'll stick with learning the things that are actually new to you.

Rice dishes, in general, are easy. At least, Shinjiro-san insists they are, and you don't really have anything to compare to. But you think it's fine so long as whatever you're making comes out edible, and it's not like you're going to have any real need for this for a while.

Akira, meanwhile... It turns out that, when he said he'd never been allowed in a kitchen before, he meant it. He actually had to ask what a measuring cup was, and you don't think he would have done that much if you hadn't realized he was having problems and asked him if there was any trouble. Which probably isn't a good sign for the future, now that you think about it.
At least he's learning about this kind of thing now. Less chance of him poisoning anyone in the future.
Shinjiro-san doesn't seem to be bothered by this at all. Actually, from what you can tell, he seems to be taking this as an improvement over the people he usually works with.

One of these days, you need to meet the other people in Shinjiro-san's Cooking Club, just to figure out how this could possibly be any sort of improvement. Surely, whoever it was would have picked up on something eventually, right?

"I don't know if I'll be able to really use this," Akira sighs while holding a rice ball. You don't know if he plans to eat it or not, but if he doesn't, you're pretty sure it's going to be part of tomorrow's breakfast. Which is probably related to why Takeba-san has started leaving without eating anything. It's good rice, there's just more of it than any of you ever planned to eat. "If I try making food at home, I'll just get in trouble... and so will you, for showing me how to do this."

Shinjiro-san shrugs, which is to be expected, because Shinjiro-san only really cares what people think after he's met them, and sometimes not even then. "Look, you worry about things on your end, I worry about them on mine. All you need to do is not get caught." You don't think Mitsuru-san would approve of him saying this, but you suppose what she doesn't know won't hurt her.

Honestly, you don't get why this is such a big deal in the first place. It's just food. But then you remember that Akira's parents aren't reasonable people, and everything makes sense again.

It's at about this point that Akihiko-san comes back with Koromaru, who barks happily and barrels straight towards the group of humans he's noticed. Within a few seconds, you've been knocked to the ground by a fuzzy torpedo.

All things considered, there are much worse fates to have. Even if he's sort of interrupted what you were doing.

[ ] ...The food's still okay, right?

[ ] ...Is Akira all right?

[ ] There is a dog here. You must pet the dog. And scold him. He's smart enough for you to do both at once, right?

[X] ...Is Akira all right?

The answer to the general question is no. But let's see if he goes with the infamous 'I'm fine'

[X] There is a dog here. You must pet the dog. And scold him. He's smart enough for you to do both at once, right?

I don't think that Akira wants us to smother him with attention. Then again, I'm not good at social things, so I could be way off.

Either way: Doggy!

...Of course. Give people the power to pet a dog, and they will, without fail, pet the dog.

Not that spending more time with Koro-chan could ever be a bad decision... just not necessarily the most helpful.

Prelude to a New Tale
Okay, there's... a lot of things that need to be dealt with right now. Making sure Akira's okay, checking to see if the food's still salvageable, trying to keep Akihiko-san and Shinjiro-san from starting another one of their fights until your friend has gone home... but that last one is probably impossible, unless they're distracted with the other two. Which just leaves one job behind for you.

You like it when things just work out.

"I'll get Koromaru upstairs," You volunteer, pushing him away from your face. His fur is covered in both mud and flour. You aren't entirely sure where it all came from, but it's an excuse to stay away. "And clean him up... Come on, boy."

Nobody seems to have any complaints about you taking that particular job for yourself. Which is good, because you think you'd rather be away from the kitchen for the moment. It's safer that way.

Koromaru follows you, which makes things easier if not for the fact that he still apparently wants attention. Still, you think that means you can get him to hold still in the shower so long as you pet him enough.

Really, though, you'll count this as a success so long as he doesn't end up spitting fire or enveloping the dorms in darkness. That would be bad.

"You know you shouldn't do that," You remind him, as another crash comes from downstairs. You have no idea what's going on at the moment, and you don't think you want to know. "Dinner's not for another three hours, anyway." And it's good, that dinner won't be for a while, because after you all eat dinner, Akira has to leave for the night. And sometimes you're scared that he won't come back.

The dog whines, which you think means he understands he did something wrong, but it'd be a lot easier if there were someone around who knew what he was saying.
Not even half a year, now.
The idea of there being someone who could understand dogs seems a bit far-fetched to you, though, even if it's one as smart as Koromaru is. You'll just have to go without.
It does sound a bit unbelievable, doesn't it? But that doesn't mean it's not real.
Your attempts to wash your dog involve the jacket you're wearing turning into a wet, soapy mess, to the point where you have to take a shower of your own afterwards, and he doesn't stay still long enough for you to try and dry him with a towel, but if anyone has complaints, you can ask them to try doing it on their own.

Somehow, you don't think there's anybody who'd be all that excited to take you up on it. Even if you're sure Koromaru would love the extra attention.

Mitsuru-san is in a bad mood this evening, but it's for a completely different reason than what happened earlier. "The chairman called this afternoon," She starts, which is probably the most worrying part of this, because if he drops by, Akira will probably have to find somewhere else to hide out, and you still haven't figured out how to hide Morgana.
I mean, I'm pretty sure he'll end up just forgetting Koromaru exists. If they're not human, he doesn't care about them.
"What did he say?" Takeba-san asks. From her tone of voice, you can tell she's worrying about a lot of the same things that you are.

Certainly, none of you expect the answer you are given. "We are being asked to host a last-minute transfer student from Shujin Academy in Tokyo. Apparently, there are no vacancies in any of the regular dormitories."

Sometimes, you wonder why you all still bother pretending to like Ikutsuki-san. "When are they getting in?" Akihiko-san asks.

"The day before the new school year starts."

"So, at least we're pretty sure he's going to keep warning us when new people show up now?" Shinjiro-san suggests. Akira blinks.

"You're... only pretty sure?"

"He never said anything about Ken showing up last year. Just dropped him off at our door with all his stuff." Which is maybe not the best way to introduce Akira to the idea that Ikutsuki-san exists, except it's actually a pretty good idea of what to expect.

"I didn't get much warning, either," You admit. "I think it was planned out a while before they actually told me about it." Possibly from the moment you first expressed interest in SEES, but he can't be that much of an evil mastermind, can he?
I want to say he can't, but I'm not even sure.
Akira blinks. "So, he... doesn't care about you at all?"

Shinjiro-san sighs. "Finally, someone says it."

"I mean, he might care a little? I mean, I don't think he can let anything happen to us without losing his job..." Akihiko-san looks rather concerned. "...Right?"

"Father would not be impressed with him if he did," Mitsuru-san agrees. "Sadly, we do, in fact, need some kind of adult adviser. If any of you could find someone willing to volunteer that isn't connected in some way with the Nanjo Group, I would gladly take suggestions." Sadly, it seems none of you have any ideas.

Still, you have a question you'd like to ask...

[ ] Did she at least get the transfer student's name?

[ ] What's wrong with the Nanjo Group?

[ ] And Ikutsuki-san couldn't at least tell you someone else would be moving in in person?

[ ] Would there be any way to get rid of Ikutsuki-san without having a replacement ready?

[ ] Does she at least know how much you'll be able to talk to the transfer student about?
