"...Sure, you can come over." You hope you don't grow to regret this. For all you know, this could lead to Akira, in a block of ice, being displayed at the end of the hallway as a warning not to annoy Kirijo-san.
Probably not, because she's generally nicer than that, but there's no reason not to accept the possibility.
"Really? That-I- ...Thanks." He smiles, and hugs his book close, and this just might be the most happy you've ever seen him. You can't help but think that something's wrong with that. "I hope it's not any trouble..."
"No, it should be fine." So long as nobody's done anything like leave their Evoker on the kitchen table or something. You wouldn't put it past them. "Just... a warning ahead of time? The place where I live gets pretty cold sometimes, you might have to talk to Kirijo-san about it...." Akira seems a bit confused by this, but he nods anyway, and that's the most you feel you can ask of him.
What you wouldn't give, sometimes, for regular exposure to more 'normal' people. Even if they're a lot less fun.
Of course the first person to notice you would be Kirijo-san. She notices everything, even when her powers aren't visibly in use. Which they are. You should probably be careful what you think right now. "Amada-kun, I was not aware you were bringing a friend over."
"Yeah, it was sort of last minute..." You don't want to look her in the eye. Whether she's still trying to read your minds or not, there's no reason that you should have to know.
I can't help but think that you're handling this wrong...
"Sorry if it's any trouble," Akira adds. "It's just that..." He hugs his book tighter, for some reason. "...I just needed to be away from home, for a bit."
"Is there a particular reason?" And now you realize that you don't need to look in Kirijo-san's eyes to know how bright they are. You just need to pay attention to the questions she's been asking.
Actually, does that work on people without Personas? Given that's what she overhears... but then, from how Nemi describes himself as a Shadow, that's something anyone would have... maybe you should just ask later, if you still feel the need to. It's probably unimportant.
"...My aunt came to visit the other day. Said that, if I'm not good enough to do things right, that means I shouldn't..." He stops, and shakes his head. "...It doesn't matter."
You're pretty sure it matters. Not that you really have a way to put that into words. If you did, it'd make dealing with Shinjiro-san a lot easier.
You aren't sure whether Kirijo-san thinks it matters or not, but she allows Akira in the building, and that seems like a good first step.
Despite Akira's presence, things seem largely uneventful. He does his homework, and seems rather nervous about the answers, but it's honestly better than you did, last year, and he sits next to you while you watch TV, though you aren't entirely sure he understands anything about what's going on.
Still, he's a fair bit more enthused about the things you watch than Kirijo-san was, and that's always a good thing.
He doesn't really say anything when you introduce him to Sanada-san and Shinjiro-san, either. Actually, he seems sort of intimidated by them... or maybe just Shinjiro-san. You don't get why. Sure, Shinjiro-san looks scary, but he's still really nice.
...Then again, that's Akira for you. He's scared of everything.
Now, that's not true. He's not scared of books. Or cats. Or Oohashi-chan.
Still, Shinjiro-san doesn't seem to notice. Or maybe he just doesn't care. It's probably the second one. The only things he really cares about are you and Sanada-san, and making sure nobody at Gekkoukan manages to create any culinary atrocities.
You aren't quite sure what he means by those, and you're not going to ask. It seems better, that way.
You have no idea...
Akira never told you how long he meant to be here, though. In hindsight, you probably should have asked about that, it's just about time for dinner...
"All right, food's done." Right on schedule. Though you don't see Sanada-san anywhere at the moment... probably sulking because Shinjiro-san still won't cook for him. At some point, they really need to work that out... Well. Not your problem.
"O-oh, sorry..." Akira starts quickly shoving his things into his backpack. "I-I didn't realize it'd been this long, I..."
Shinjiro-san looks at you. "Kid. Where did you even find him?"
"At school. He was being yelled at by a cat."
"...Sad thing is, I can't tell if you're being serious or not."
Akira nods. "Yes. Amada-senpai was... very helpful, back then. I- I should be going now."
"Not without eating something you're not."
"But if I don't eat my dinner at home... I won't get it anymore."
And cue protective Shinjiro-san in three... two...
"...Mitsuru."
"What is it?"
"Can we keep him?"
She opens her mouth. Closes it. Repeats a few times. Honestly, you're sort of wondering what she's thinking about all this. Finally, she says, "We are not a daycare center. And you can't even take care of yourself, let alone another child." Well, she's not wrong... Wait...
I'm eighteen!
"Please don't drag me into this."
"Kid, you're the one who brought him home to begin with." You note, however, that he's not arguing with Kirijo-san's assertion. "And you are going to sit down at the table and eat. It doesn't matter what your folks would have served you at home. They're not here."
Akira glances from the door to the table, and back again. "Shinjiro-san's a really good cook," You say, trying to encourage him. "Come on, it'll be great." He blinks, then nods and follows you to the table.
"...They never give me anything but rice, anyway..."
"Your friends are... interesting."
"I guess..." Honestly, you don't really think about it that much. Not like you're the picture of normalcy, anyway. "That's just how they are, though." You think there's a bit more for you to say, but... you're not sure what.
[ ] Why was he so glad to be able to come over in the first place?
[ ] ...Is he sure he wants to go back?
[ ] Does he need any help getting home?
[ ] ...It's fine. You don't need to say anything.
