Shadows of the Past

-[X] The chance to stay with him and his master whenever we're in town.
--[X] Would provide an extra benefit for him and his master, we're good with a knife and can help defend against intruders
--[X] Also they would have access to our services as a healer
-[X] Have him teach us how to read, and he can clearly read since he went after the codex.
--[X] And access to the Codex itself.

The idea is the same, I see no problem with that, and if they aren't comfortable with some part, our MC will discuss and negotiate, so we won't loose the rest because one part was not accepted. I'm pretty sure this is just guidelines for what Yaxtli will ask, not exact wording.

@TotallyNotEvil, the Wise Mens guards where wearing Masterwork Light Bronze Armor. Arm and leg guards with a cuirass.
Medium Armor would add chainmail, a helmet that only exposes the face and offers much more protection to the joints at the expense of noticeably slowing you down.
Heavy Armor is full plate mail.

Take note that they didn't bear shields, because they are Evasion fighters. You can lower armor penalty for a lot of skills with the proper Traits, but Evasion isn't among them. If you want full plate, you either accept getting hit more often in return by relying on Evasion or get yourself a shield.

Can't we, I don't know, parry, block and defend with our weapons? Yeah, daggers are bad for that, and spears aren't much better, but it's possible, no? Of course, not what I want for us, just curious of your system.

Rules wise Blocking is damaging to your shield. It takes the base damage of the weapon - 1 for each net success you had while blocking. Failing to block does damage normally to you, just like a failed Evasion.
You can substitute your weapon for that just fine, but weapons have far less HP then shields and quickly loose Quality from that, which is generally ill advised in the middle of combat.

You can obviously repair the damage to both weapons and shields, including lost quality levels.

We're negotiating here and now, though. If we can offer any reassurances so he doesn't get twitchy and stupid (which will be dangerous on the way back) then we should do so now.

Does it truly cost us anything to just offer some reassurances?
Non-delegated votes. I'm sure Yaxkin will negotiate reasonably.

Oh, perfect. That's actually what I wanted to ask from him.

@Azel, is there a point where our weapons are simply too hard or made too well to be damaged at all? Like with nromal pre-Fall weapons or Artifact weapons?

With your first work done, you wash yourself more thoroughly. The wounds are not that deep and look far worse than they are, and yet they could be your end if left to fester. Briefly you consider to rub some Jungle's Scent onto the bandages before applying them, lest the scent of your blood lure in more predators looking for an easy kill, and yet you notice that you can't really smell it. That of the wolf is suffusing the room slowly with the weird odor only blood bears, and yet your own wounds seem to not give it off. Experimentally you sniff at your hand and yet your nose refuses to acknowledge the slight trickle still running out of a tear between your fingers. Carefully you lick the wound and even as you feel the warm blood on your tongue, it tastes only like water. Carefully you stretch you limb away from you after that realization, as if it would bite you if you didn't.

It takes a moment of staring at the blood dripping from your fingers to for you to come to terms with this little discovery. Or maybe not come to terms, but at least to shove it back to be pondered later.

Nobody going to comment on the fact that our blood has no smell or taste? I'm honestly quite worried about that.

Are material difference modifiers applied in this case(stone knife vs metal shield => x0.5 dmg before subtracting successes)?
Do certain shields have base DR (so they take dmg - 1/success - base DR)?

Not much we can do about it now. I definitely want to spend some study actions on it (discreetly so we're not carted off to the Wise Men as an experiment).

I'm hoping this is just a weird side-effect of Jungle's Scent, but we're not that lucky.

No, the DR of shields only applies to the attacks that get through, but material modifiers do apply.

@Azel can the smith / apprentice read the codex?

If so we dont actually need the wisemen if they can teach us... But I guess theyll infer what do to through the schematics.

I think we should stay and learn how to read from Noche / Ixitl while there. Maybe we luck out on finding a companion to adventure with while at it - and the Wisemen institution is clearly a trap. They're obviously evil pretending to be nice. :p

Although we might pouch a dissatisfied apprentice buddy to escape with if we go there...

It will be a few more hours until I have the time to write an update, but this looks pretty settled already.

After you arrive back in Tlamaca, I will switch back to turn based actions, but on a much smaller resolution then in the prologue. Might be a good time for you guys to discuss what to do in the coming weeks / months.
You can always come up with other things to do then what I offer in the turn votes, but it would help to know ahead of time what you might be interested in.

Maybe we tumbled through a hole that was used to dump waste from smithing. And it had magically infused walls. This magic would remove the scent so the smell would not distract the smiths. We came in contact with it and our wounds now do not smell.
(basically, it is magic :V)

Well the skills closest to level are bladed weapons 911/1000 and endurance 936/1000. I suppose they could level on the way back, but if not we could have training those as an minor action.

I suppose we could get some social training since we're in that kind of setting now. We need to barter and stuff to get the most out of our cash/loot.

Edit:
It would not surprise me if that there are a lot of traded favours among the Wise Men as well.
