I saw Hibiki setting up for a Double Rocket Punch near the end there. The people making this still know what I love :D

I originally gave up on the first season because I though it was too dark from the first couple eps, but my friends convinced me to give it another shot, and once I got past Hibiki's first training montage with Genjuro I was sold. The second season only reinforced that :)

So the first episode of the new season, GX, aired a little while ago, and subs came out like an hour or two ago, and I have to say: this first ep was FUCKING AWESOME :o:D:cool:

It opens up with a space shuttle in danger of burning up during re-entry, and it's up to Genjuurou and crew to stop it. How do they go about it you ask? Send Hibiki, Tsubasa, and Chris into orbit in a rocket :D

They then reach the shuttle by having Chris fire rockets towards it, and the girls surf on them to reach it :D:D

Using various versions of rocket thrusters the three are able to divert the shuttle from hitting a major city, but now it's going to hit K2 before they can stop it. Now the smart thing to do would be grab the pilots and bail, but the main reason the shuttle went into orbit was to recover the body of the mentor of the three new girls introduced last season: Maria, Kirika, and Shirabe. Hibiki and the others aren't about to do that, so Chris proceeds to blow enough of K2's middle away that it becomes the 3rd tallest mountain in the world, and then Hibiki punches through it before the top of the mountain falls on the shuttle. :o:D:D:D

Next up is a huge forest in their way, but they're still going way too fast, so Tsubasa takes point, enlarges her sword to ludicrous size, and just mows through it as the shuttle shoots along.

Now the shuttle's into a valley, but is about to shatter against the walls, so the girls punch, slash, and explode their way down the valley.

It's reached a small village now, and is headed straight at what looks like the town hall, so in order to avoid it Hibiki hops in front of it, digs her heels in and even deploys her anchors, and bodily tosses the shuttle over the building.

The pilots even get a chance to be cool, because the shuttle hasn't quite cleared the building and has started crumpling it a little, so they hit the engines just enough so that it lands perfectly upright behind the building, with barely a scratch.

This is the first 5 minutes of the episode

I won't going into the rest, but Hibiki's transformation later on and her song are simply amazing, and the new enemies are looking really stylish.

THIS IS HOW YOU DO A FIRST EPISODE

We also have a touhou for an antagonist, who may or may not ended up getting befriended / fisted.

And in other news, Hibiki and Miku continue to be GOOD FRIENDS, complete with matching FRIEND HEARTS on their clothes at the concert party.

Also some possible forshadowing- Notatouhou mentions destroying miracles. Hibiki "Im happy for the miracle that lets me keep using symphogear"

Ah, the magical girl song anime. Should really get around to watching the first season again, as from what I recall it was quite good. And had catchy music playing almost every episode, for that matter.

Like, don't the magical girls literally sing to power themselves up? Or transform or something?

While certainly true, I'm not sure if they'd do that after last season had the whole 'if you keep doing this stuff you'll die', and then she lost her powers and got them back. It just seems like it would be difficult to thematically make the narrative different with her flat losing her powers, since at this point we know Hibiki will throw herself into danger even if she can't actually fight.

But hey, that's just my opinion and I could be misreading things.

Yeah, something like that. It's good, you should watch it.

Honestly the conflict for this season seems to me to be 'you know, saving the world is great and all, but you can't let that consume your life', at least on a Hibiki personal level. What with her grades and all.

For those who might be wondering what Hibiki meant at the end of ep2 about her father.

Okay this is all for now. Well, new keywords should be up on the G site tomorrow anyway. I haven't translated everything but some keywords just cover what we already know (such as the general outline of F.I.S. plan from 1 onward). There's also a long keyword about the anime (Lightning Detective Van) from ep 4, but it's mostly fun and not absolutely necessary knowledge so I'll be skipping it for now!

The Tragedy at the Concert and the Tachibana Family:

2 years prior to the start of Symphogear's main story, the specially classified disaster known as the Noise emerged in the middle of a public performance by Zwei Wing. Combining the numbers of spectators and staff, there were over 100,000 people present at the concert hall. The number of deceased or missing totaled 12,874, a terrible disaster. However despite the fact this occurred on such an unparalleled scale, the tragedy does not end there but continued on.

Of the 12,874 that died approximately 1/3 of them was due to the Noise. The others died as either the result of being crushed by the crowds attempting to flee, or by intense fighting that broke out between attendees trying to secure their escape. This information was published in weekly magazines and quickly set the stage for public opinion. Since the majority of deaths became attributed to other people, the survivors began to experience public bashing. Victims and bereaved families of the deceased also received reparation from the national treasury, and thus the public opinion turned into a harsh debate about one's self-responsibility. Although what had been published and announced in the press was accurate information, a lot of it had been modified to agitate people's emotions, glorifying certain aspects of the story. Using "righteousness" as their guide, many people took to the internet and began to spread their own opinion on the story.

It eventually broiled to the point where even those that were uninvolved or uninterested in the event had begun talking about it passionately, as it distracted them from other problems. Thoughtless slander was thrown around, supported by the majority as having "sound reasoning," not because they had deduced this themselves but rather "because everyone else was saying so." At this point the true nature of the tragedy was lost and had turned into something akin to a witch hunt from the middle ages, or the barbaric persecution of Nazis, fueled by some warped sense of "justice." The goodness of people and their ability to become emotionally attached had been twisted and changed into a drive to hunt down the survivors of the tragedy simply for the reason that "because they survived." Of course at this point there was a faction of individuals who held the opposite opinion, but the majority had already made up their minds and the wave of madness swallowed up any opposition.

Hibiki Tachibana's environment was greatly affected by this. One victim of the tragedy was a boy who attended the same middle school as Hibiki. He was the captain of the soccer team and had a very bright future ahead of himself as a student. Why he had died and Hibiki, who had no redeeming features worth mentioning, had lived was something used to torment her. It all started with a single student, a young girl who had been a fan of the boy, who lashed out at Hibiki yelling in hysterics. It wasn't long before it had consumed the entire school. But that was far from the extent of it.

The daughter of the president of a company that Hibiki's father did business with was also among the list of the deceased. At first her father was incredibly overjoyed that Hibiki had survived the ordeal, but it wasn't long before the news spread around and he found that his contract with the company had been rejected and was removed from the project. Having lost his sense of pride and unable to figure out how to cope with the situation, her father turned to alcohol which eventually led to yelling and even violence within the household. Originally her father had married into her mother's family, taking on her name, but one day on his way to work he intentionally went missing, abandoning the family altogether and never returned to the house again.

Be it at school or at home, Hibiki took on an immense amount of unreasonable torment and harassment. The young girl who puts all her efforts into helping others, is also a girl with a past that had been trampled on by those same people.

The darkness in people's hearts, born of a mutual misunderstanding. Having been exposed to this darkness more than most, Hibiki is still capable of believing in others. Surely this is because she knows that in the space between 2 people, there exists sunlight.

 What? Really, what?

People are stupid, news at eleven. I already thought that was weird when it was brought up before in the show, but not much we can do about it now. Though that death toll does seem a bit.....high? I mean, that's a really high number, especially when only a third of it was caused by the Noise (8 thousand people killed each other trying to escape. That's, like, the high end death toll of the New York Draft Riots)

I mean, god forbid you do your potentially dangerous experiments some place where people won't get hurt. :V

Anyway, hype was real, Ep 2 was great. Presumably the MacGuffin this time will simply be giving them a way to fight back against these new Noise, and hopefully getting Tsubasa and Chris's Symphogear back. Should be fun.

Current theories in various degrees of seriousness

-Kanade returns in some point, possibly as doll- Only here to make my other thoughts look more likely.
-The dolls kisses steal / store peoples memories as well as probably killing people- carol mentioned collecting memories, so maybe wanting to preserve some of the world after she destroys it.
-We're going to get a dream / illusionworld episode thanks to blue doll having illusion powers.
-If not, then chances are she will try infiltrating the base as one of the characters- maybe Miku as only non gear user.
-If any of the above happens, Hibiki will know its not real because the illusion Miku isn't as warm as she should be.
-If infiltrating disguised as Miku, see above, but Hibiki only acts just when things are about to get dangerous- she knew all along, but played alon because wanting to see how human they were for chances of befriending.

So can somebody explain why the blackmail in episode 2 for Maria?

Because the US/UN was trying to cover it's ass politically for lying to the world about how the Moon was coming down. at least, that's my assumption. They get Maria on their side, they can say 'Haha, it was all a clever ruse the entire time!" As opposed to "Yeah, we fucked up and nearly got the world ruined by a. the Moon, and b. a crazy dude with a hero complex"

So why is it taken as a bad thing as shown?

Having the world panic doesn't work either. And from what i remember, the 2nd division knew as well.

But Dr Ver makes kinda sense.

G's plot made no goddamn sense, and their desire to have Maria, Kirika, and Shirabe in GX contradicts the parts of G that did make sense, so they're making something up and having all the characters agree that it obviously made sense to try to convince the viewers that it does.

Lol.......something is seriously weird about SVs search feature........every time I've searched previously, it showed that this didn't have its own thread......

Currently catching up on this. Basically just marathoned the first season in two days, and the only way I can describe it is "Magical Girl Neon Genesis Macross: REVENGEANCE".

So gloriously, stupidly fun.

Currently starting on season 2 and oh boy is this gonna be amazing.

The previous two seasons already had a bunch of elements reminiscent of Nanoha, but this season seems to be going farther with it.

In particular, going by the OP, Maria's new gear (her sister's) is clearly inspired by Signum. Pink hair, oldest of the girls, sword that turns into a chain whip? All she's missing is being badass and having the sword also turn into a bow.
