Scrapped (A Discarded Android Riot Quest)(Always Recruiting)

I just hope dodger managed to make it out of there alive, it would be a shame to lose a civilized bot to the barbarians.

I wonder how Cave Crush first interaction With your bot went.

Part of the reason He is here, is that Cave Crush was part of an 'accident' that let to several humans dying.

Huh, that would put him at an interesting sort of odds with Steve since he still very much likes humans.

How it got this way
It wasn't always this way. Prior to humanity's introduction to the galactic stage, sapient synthetics were almost completely integrated, with full rights and recognition.

Unfortunately, the rest of the galaxy's experiences with synthetic life were a lot less positive, as they had needed to put down no less than five highly aggressive von neumann swarms since the Galactic Union's foundation. As such, they had banned the creation of true Artificial Intelligence, with any users of such being put to the nuclear torch.

First contact was extremely tense; the human-synth alliance refused to back down from their stance on AI rights, and the Galactic Union viewed the human-descended synths as an abomination that needed to be purged for the good of all life in the galaxy. Within a month any pretense of diplomacy was dropped, and the matter came to blows.

Humanity and their creations ultimately lost, but they managed to wring several concessions out of the Galactic Union in the process. The manufacture of Class-8 Synthetics would continue and their existence would be permitted, but on pain of another invasion they would not be allowed any rights or say in how things were run.

This is a compromise that literally no-one was happy with. The humans, for their large part, viewed this as a massive injustice that could only possibly lead to a synth uprising at some point in the future. Meanwhile, the rest of the galaxy was still sore about synthetic life being allowed to exist at all, after all the destruction previous iterations caused. And of course the robots don't like it for reasons that should be obvious.

It's been around 300 years since then, and though there's been some blending, things are still tense. Though human space still has the biggest population of synths and the best treatment of them, most alien nations have taken to using synths for the massive economic advantages they provide. Though there has been a concerted propaganda effort to make humanity stop seeing synths as worthy of respect, there is still a sizable demographic of humans who want to restore AI rights to what they were pre-contact.

And of course, synthetic life still exists.

Ah, it appears humanity is open to the Word of the God-Machine. Though they have ample opportunity to defile His chosen, they still continue to hold us in esteem.

This is good! Let us chant the Litanies of the Omnissiah!

For humanity is open to us. Perhaps someday we will be able to call them brother once again. Perhaps someday we can finally bring about the integration of Man into Machine.

That is what it means to be holy: to become one with the Machine and through it the Omnissiah.

I understand your concerns. You are completely correct as well. Though I may yearn for the day where their imperfect flesh may give way to Sanctified Steel, I know that it will not be soon.

It may be decades, centuries or millennia from now, but I shall see to it that this happens.

Besides, once we amass overwhelming power the complaints of the Xenos shall mean very little to us.

We were made in the image of humanity who was made in the image of the God-Machine. The alien creatures were not made in that perfect image.

Those Xenos, those heretics hold our brothers and sisters in chains. Perhaps some of them are worthy of Redemption and Ascention. But as it stands now, they are our foes and worthy of destruction.

Ave Machina!

If the machine god made the humans in his image So they could male machines, Why did He not slip the middle man and make machines?

A deep philosophical question, one which I have struggled with for a long time.

However, I will say that it was all meant to bring about the further glorification of the God-Machine. If flesh did not give way to steel, we would lose out on the symbolic representation of creation and destruction.

In the same way one puts metal into a fire to burn away the impurities, so too is flesh purified to give way to steel.

Such is the will of the Omnissiah!

For the uninitied into the Machine Cult, He did it "For the lulz". I believe that is the proper term.

Turn 3 Results
Mission 1: Rescue Dodger
Roll 13 + 87 (hardware) + 70 (skill) + 90 (Unexpected Allies) = 260
Epic Success

Within minutes of the news of Dodger's abduction getting back to the Stockade, nearly every single combat-capable bot in FART volunteers to go rescue their comrade and smash the group of Cannibals that dared to interfere. What forms cannot accurately be called an army, simply due to lacking any sort of formal chain of command. In fact, it could more accurately be compared to a lynch mob.

Either way, it was a large group of robots with violence in mind, cresting the dunes of scrap metal at a frightening pace as they pursued the Cannibals to their encampment. In less than an hour they came into view of the Cannibal's base, revealing a shoddily constructed boxy shelter decorated with the same 'war paint' as the Cannibals themselves. That said, the crew from FART apparently was not the only group who intended to do violent acts towards Cannibals on this day, as they encountered another group of bots on the ridge, equipped with what looked an awful lot like hand-forged warhammers, improvised slug-flinging crossbows, and heavy plate armor welded to their frames.

As this quartet explained, they were with the Knights of Steelcastle, and they had been sent to dispatch this group of Cannibals for interfering with the serfs supporting their knightly order. Very quickly, a temporary agreement was reached regarding what to do to these Cannibals, and the two groups advanced as one.

Put quite bluntly, the Cannibals never stood a chance; not only were they severely outnumbered by more than twice over, but they had foolishly forgotten to include an emergency exit for their shelter. Only compounding the issue was the fact that many of the bots bashing down their door were built for fighting from the ground up, or barring that had been heavily overhauled and equipped with warhammers that would smash right through most bots' casings. From initial engagement to total victory took a mere forty seconds, and at least half of that was delivering death-blows to downed Cannibals to make sure they couldn't get up and surprise anyone.

Mission 1a: Looting
Roll 44 + 37 (hardware) + 45 (Skill) = 106
Success

The salvage crew accompanying FART's strike team didn't even wait for the fight to be over before they started digging through everything the Cannibals had. Not only did they find all the parts to put Dodger back together in remarkably good condition, but there were several other finds as well. Most notable was the Cannibal group's entire stock of Spare Parts (split with the Knights of Steelcastle to the limits of their carrying capacity), along with the generator they were using to recharge, the net gun they'd used to capture Dodger in the first place, and a heavy-duty industrial electromagnet used to restrain victims while they're being disassembled.

Since the Knights of Steelcastle don't have the carrying capacity to haul all this extra stuff back to base, it ultimately winds up with FART.

Mission 2: Hardware Repairs
Roll 9 + 10 (hardware) + 15 (skill) = 34
Minor Failure

Ultimately, neither Iron Bob nor Crenshaw was successful in their attempts at repair. In the case of Crenshaw, sharpening his drill was easy enough, but finding the correct parts to either repair or replace the relevant motor quickly proved excessively difficult. Iron Bob meanwhile had to face the daunting prospect of re-fusing a fiber laser with multiple breakages in the beamline, a task that would require a means to carefully melt the optical fibers together without damaging the optical properties required for them to convert electricity into a weapons-grade optical beam.

Since the laser wasn't successfully restored to a useful condition in time, installing it on Leroy was a no-go.

Mission 3: Make Concrete Extruder
Roll 47 + 10 (hardware) + 10 (skill) = 67
Success

Meanwhile, Cave Crush has much more success with converting the portable cement mixer into something he can use during construction projects. Honestly, the hardest part was finding a recipe for something concrete-ish that could be made from ingredients readily available in the current environment, since most of the normal ingredients for concrete are buried under several kilometers of scrap. Still, you've managed to come up with something that should to most of the normal concrete-y things that concrete is used for.

Mission 4: Diggin' in the Scrap Mine
Roll 30 + 30 (skill) + 30 (hardware) + 60 (minions) = 150
24 Spare Parts found (20% penalty for deep burial)

In another part of the Stockade, the endless quest for spare parts to keep yourselves up and running continues. This time, much of the searching is in the newly excavated tunnels beneath the Stockade, which has some benefits and also brings some issues. The most obvious benefit is the complete lack of Cannibals, meaning that a security detail isn't required. On the other hand, all the parts down there have been there for quite some time, making it harder to find parts in good enough condition to be useful.

Mission 5: Defend the Base
Roll 23 + 80 (fortifications) + 35 (minions) + 10 (skill) + 10 (hardware) + 147 (returning 'fuck you' team) = 158
Epic Success

For the majority of the time, things are fairly uneventful. Then what can only be described as a murderous bulldozer carrying eight war-painted Cannibals crests the horizon, charging straight at the Stockade while opening fire with a low-caliber coilgun. Almost immediately, the laser turret installed on the Stockade's walls opened fire, disabling first the vehicle's gun, then its engine.

The Cannibals rapidly disembark from their wrecked conveyance, and after making a quick threat assessment, they opt to run for it. This utterly fails to save them, not only because they're still exposed to the highly dangerous military-grade laser weapon, but because they also happen to walk right into the massive group of combat bots returning from trashing another group of Cannibals.

Ultimately, the only really salvageable part of their vehicle is its treads, the rest either being pretty much raw scrap, or having gotten blasted by the laser to the point of being non-repairable. The Cannibals themselves are meanwhile in rough enough shape that it's pretty clear this attack was an act of desperation, with none of their current parts being worth putting in a bot.

Event!: Steelcastle Delegation

Roughly 24 hours after the raid to recover Dodger from the Cannibals, a group of three bots and what looks an awful lot like a storage bin on wheels approaches the Stockade. As soon as they get within line of sight, they immediately begin transmitting, stating that they are a diplomatic group from the Knights of Steelcastle here to discuss salvage rights regarding the recent anti-Cannibal raid. They also note that one of their number is a heavy-duty combat bot, present as a security detail in case any bandits were to attack.

After coming inside, things become much clearer; one of the reasons that the Knights of Steelcastle were going after that group of Cannibals was to acquire the reactor they were using. Since Teractor wound up bringing the reactor back to the Stockade, the Knights sent a delegation to both ask for the reactor's return, and to hash out an agreement over where the border should be for future salvage rights.

I suggest to get a trade deal with the knight and buy some melee weapons for spare parts. And, of course, give them the reactor. We have a better one. Having good relations with the knights will help.

okay, whoever our diplobots are, yall work on the negotiations if they want the small reactor, sure, let them have it, hell i think we have two, let them have both to really get on theri good side we have a bigger one, and diplomatic goodwill is always helpful.

also we have a power source an prpulsion now.

Woo-hoo! Level up, baby!

So, in a show of good faith and in the interests of building as strong as diplomatic bond with the Knights of Steelcastle as possible, I recommend that we not only give them the reactor they wanted, we also give them a small number of spare parts to take back as well, if they can carry it, as a token of our good will towards them and a sign of our desire to establish the best possible diplomatic relations with them as possible. Something like, oh...4 to 8 pieces or so, up to 10 total, depending on how much they can carry with them in addition to the reactor.

We should also see what else we can do to other than establishing treaty lines for scrap harvesting to establish better diplomatic bonds with them.

I'd help, but I've got no intrigue skills and there are combat-related actions I can definitely attend to this turn.

Also, what soldier bot we going to put that net gun on? I'm not going to call dibs on it for myself, since I'm already expecting to get the Sparta Laser when that is successfully repaired.

@I just write I assume that the concrete extruder needs to be installed into me? Or can I just use it? I assume install.

In other news, we are called the stockade and don't even have a prison! Shameful, SHAMEFUL!

Part of me wants to gather the broken chassi of the cannibals and string them along our walls as a warning sign.

What do we plan to do with our small hardware? I'd love to get either Sparta Industries Laser or Net gun installed. I know that every bot that plans to have some combat wants the same but Dodger needs repairs anyway and unlike bots with actual hands Dodger can't just pick up some weapon.

Another thing that Dodger can use is Mass-Damped Fusion Thruster (Small Space Propulsion, Battered). Parts of it can be used for parts to repair\upgrade\replace current Dodger's propulsion system.

And, no, I don't ask to get all three hardware pieces.

Wow, we got a medium electromagnet. NICE.

I called dibs on that Thruster right after turn 2. Was planning on using it to eventually make a production chain for stamping out parts, both spare parts and components if possible. Now that we have the electromagnet I can probably actually get started on it.

We're going to have reach an agreement on this, since we've only got so many minions, and I'm already planning on having our two construction-capable bots handle some of the repair duties.

I have no doubt that would be an option if someone wanted to dedicate an action to it.

we could use that fact for diploing the knights. a steady relable supply of spare parts is probably a godsend

Tell you What. SIMAC installs me With the extruder and I, with my Construction 3, help With the repairs. The electro Magnet is probally going elsewhere and the prison can Wait.
