RPG Heartbreaker Quest

[x] I'll say that the game is deliberately imbalanced for thematic reasons.

Some people are better than others irl, so we should reflect that in the game.

It's just like real life!

Edit: Beaten by seconds. Drat. Guess some people just post better and faster.

[X] There is no problem with one guy being a street-level thief and the other guy having an atomic death robot, they can still have fun.

Look, white-room combat simulation isn't everything. Sure, yes, the rules say that the guy in the atomic death robot is literally invincible to the street level thief, but when you're roleplaying, not rollplaying, everything changes. What if the thief hides from the atomic death robot? They'll have to start blowing up the city to find them, and they'll get in trouble for doing that. The problem is with the players, not the game, if they have an issue with that.

Though to be on the safe side, we'll put in a sidebar saying that everyone should be on board and you should have your party be built together, and that the GM should work to give everyone equal screentime. So, you know, maybe the guy in the atomic death robot can fight the enemy army, but the street level thief might have to pickpocket the codes for the communications for the enemy radios so the atomic death robot knows where to fire.

Hmm. We need our own word for "GM". GM is too generic.

Some genres are just stronger than others! Genres that I like obviously are better than ones I don't, and everyone should just accept that.

Quest. Master.

It's the only choice that evokes the epic and amazing themes of our journey. It's not just a game...it's a Quest!

[X] We'll make all player characters start off equally uncool, and all antagonists and chosen heroes will be stat-ted to be beyond the ability of the players to beat in a fair (or unfair) fight, thus encouraging them to use their brain and try to think of ways other than combat to solve their problems.

The universe breaks because of your recursion. Please suggest another name.

I prefer "Pig Farmer" because you are helping Storygame Swine learn to exceed the limitations of their primitive and simplistic storygames. :(

Hmm, maybe. Or maybe something noble to represent the values of Xvorzieat, which is of course a monarchy because aren't all governments monarchies? And just like some people are better than others, some rulers are better than others. Thus, the "GM" is now the Story King, ruling by divine right of his pure superiority over the unwashed RPGing masses.

I dunno, I think we should go with Quest Arbitrator because calling another dude master might make fifteen year old boys uncomfortable.
Quest King is the one true option. It will serve to reinforce that the QK is expected to control his party and stop them from breaking the game unintentionally, or not following the storyline, or whatever.

Actually I revise my earlier statements. The GM should be called the "Bardic Data StoryMaster", reflecting the genre melange of the setting.

The Master Justicar.

In fact, let's call the game Master Justicar 14,000. The players will serve the justicars, and having the GM be called thing as their leader will emphasize how they're important.

How about Setup Wizard?

Changing votes, I can't let those heathens who dare to claim that inequality is not a fundamental part of life win! No, they can't have 'equal amounts of fun.' The person playing the street level thief is weaker and less valuable than the atomic Deathlord, and should be made to understand this vital fact!

And he should thus have less fun.

This is the only way to make sure that the players interpret and play the game correctly.

Less fun? More like more fun! It's just like how poor people have to struggle with real challenges and character building moments, and so become better people. Why, I'm friends with a poor, black person, and he's one of the best people I know! Anyway, being a street-thief just means you have that many more opportunities to role-play.

What about claiming a thematic inversion of the GM system, where the person in the traditional GM role is actually "the Player", and the people who look like players are actually collaborative GMs working on making his or her life difficult?
