Hey, are we going to join Cicero's Awesome Adventure? When he travels around the Mediterranean I mean.
You mean a romantic tour to the wonders of the world with Cicero? I don't think Cicero is interested in men this way.

Besides, didn't Cicero manage to get himself into hot waters with the victorious Sullan faction? It was probably one of his reasons to go. I'd rather not do that.

Yes that was the first of many times he had to flee. I too would also not to have to flee from someone.

I just noticed something odd about the last update. I'm not sure if the roll mods were wrong or if I've just misunderstood something but I was hoping you could clarify it for me @Telamon? (Or anyone really, I don't mind who explains if I'm misunderstanding here.)

I was trying to figure out how we'd ever caught Gemino (roll wise) given he's a much better commander than the current rebel who's running around. Anyway, I gent through the previous updates looking at the times we've been hunting rebels/bandits and they don't seem to have ever gotten "Hearts of Steel" while we were hunting them. They only got it on the following roll (on the occasions we found them) when combat was actually ongoing and they were on the defensive which is when I thought it triggered.

Example:
Hunt them Down (Pompolussa): 1d20 +2 (Accomplished Military) +2 (Accomplished Command) -1 (Half Green) = 12
versus
Elude the Hunters (Gemino of the Pentrii) 1d20 + 4 (Renowned Military) +2 (Home Turf) +4 (Renowned Command) = 18
Narrow Defeat
Dispersing the Bandits: 1d20 +2 (Accomplished Military) +0 (Average Command) + 1 (Gift of Minerva) + 2 (Gallic Cavalry) = 21
versus
Driving off the Romans (Heracleo): 1d20 +1 (Proficient Military) +1 (Proficient Military) +5 (Hearts of Steel) = 18
Roman Victory
But this time they actually got it on the evasion roll itself.
Outriders

Hunt Down the Rebels
: 1d20 +2 (Accomplished Military) +0 (Average Command) +2 (Gallic Cavalry) +2 (The Voice of Mars) = 26
versus

(Rebel Commander) Evade the Romans: 1d20 +1 (Proficient Military) +2 (Accomplished Command) +5 (Hearts of Steel) +2 (Home Turf) = 28
Samnite Victory
So I'm just wondering if that was a mistake or if I'm misunderstanding how the trait works? Cheers.

Telamon wrote the last update on a week of little sleep and right after he finished finals. I assume right now he is still partying or asleep.

Just finished the first episode. My main thoughts:

1) Wow, Lucius Vorenus is the luckiest unluckiest person ever.

2) I see Octavian is still in the "kind of a little bitch stage" of the Grow Your Own Emperor™ Process.

Bah, what kind of Romans are you? I say that if you haven't gotten exiled at least once in your life you haven't really lived! And really the air and water in Sardina/Sicily/Greece/Africa/Asia/Gaul/Spain is much healthier than that of over-populated Rome and its roaming bands of death squads so its is good for our health too.

To be honest I just don't want to support the infatuation this thread has with Cicero.:p

I rather invade somewhere and loot/bring enlightenment to those lands.

Well if it is a mistake, those circumstances make it a very understandable one.

I wonder what Telamon will do? Without the Hearts of Steel trait that roll would have been a success instead of a failure for us. And as we had a cohort and the Gauls with us there's a passable chance they'd have gotten the Outnumbered malus on their combat roll negating at least some of it in combat. Ah well, there's plenty of way's to fix it (if it was a mistake).

Something like that would be a fairly situational decision, depending a lot on what other opportunities exist at the time and what the overall situation is.

Everywhere nearby has already had that happen tho...

Except for the Parthian Empire.

They're expecting an attack from the Romans though, so the only way that invasion is happening is if we outflank the country. Meaning, you know, circling around to attack it from the southern and blitz our way through the empire towards The Republic.

At which point we meet up with the other half of our army and bring them back along the path we made.

West Africa, Syria, Asia Major, Gaul, Germanic, Dacia, Egypt, etc there is stil a lot of things that need to be romanized.

I thought there was a problem with a massive stretch of West Africa being desert?

I think you meant Asia Minor, and Gaul would feel awkward what with the gaulbros we have.

You're right about Syria, Germanic, Dacia, and Egypt.

Well...maybe not Egypt. I don't think we need to conquer them, we might be able to straight up talk them into joining The Republic.

IIRC there's going to be a good time to head over there in the next 5 years or so when rule falls to Bernice III, at that point we could probably talk her into turning Egypt into a client kingdom in exchange for general backing of her reign. Oh, and she would normally need a husband to act as co-ruler, but that can be tied into the governer. So she's free to marry/fuck as she wishes while the 'roman ruler of the year' acts as the counterbalance filling that male role.

It also sets a decent precedent and incentive for client-kingdoms joining up of their own free will.

On the client end of things, joining the Romans doesn't seem to mean total subjugation. On the Roman end of things, it means less bitching and/or rebellion when they've taken over, and unquestioned total control whenever a child ruler comes into play and/or the royal family inevitably dies out.

He probably means Mauretania whose climate in Roman time I'm not sure of, but which is a client kingdom of Rome.

Not really. Just make up a story about how we protect them from something or someone. Worked well for Caesar.

Nah, they'll probably want to stay a client kingdom. At least I think they are right now, if not in name.

Otl Sulla gave the Mithridates such easy terms it lead to 2 more wars so I think we should finish invading them instead of spending the next two decades fighting them. Really Marius invading them is a good thing since it may stop two more wars if he succeeds.

That's a bad thing because it's two wars less we can profit from.

As far as I can tell, it's still it's own kingdom right now, though that will change soon.

The wars are part of our economic model tho :V

I doubt we will be involved in both wars since there are more profitable campaigns we could be involved in. West Africa, Spain, Dacia would provide apple opportunities for wealth.

Also we need to get the empire/republic on a more sustainable financial plan. Or try to other than loot and tax everything you can.

I prefer causing a storm of butterflies in world history when voting in historical quests. :p
As do I.

Of course, for me, that means figuring out a way for us to conquer Japan.

It starts as us trying to circle around the Parthian Empire to attack them from behind, but once we're past India it's pure curiousity pulling us along "just how far does the world go?".

Question: How much divine intervention can be involved in this quest?

I want to make an omake where Atellus is sleeping and "wakes" in the Temple of Minerva where they have a dialogue.

Thoughts?

The gods may or may not exist. Only Telamon knows. So if you do it you need to do enough ambiguity for it to maybe be the gods or luck.
