I have to say the outhouse thing i hilarious, on the one hand that guy is a scam artist by definitions, but he did target the loca Elvenl Blacksmith in a fey mood instead of widows and orphans, I'd say he showed some courage. :V

For the gift to Ulfar I think we should go for a throne of silver and steel. If he is in battle he should be wearing a helmet not a crown so slapping combat applicable spells on a crown seems wasteful when we can make him a helmet specifically for the purpose later. For the throne we could try to work out a Hysh enchantment to sharpen the mind to go with the anti-daemon aura such that any properly possessed people getting near the throne will be burned
To be fair, there are several crowns and circlets that go with helmets in WHF, like Malekith's and Archaon's.

True, but both those people are literally welded into their armors. I worry that a war-crown risks not being used in a more peaceful setting so as not to seem too intimidating and then you have the king on his throne in his day to day public appearances without the protection of the magic.

Throne would take a while and probably not be accepted as well. Again, Scepter. Does the purpose of a symbol of authority and can work as a weapon. Burn demons with it and also bludgeon someone with it. Preferably if they're a demon it'll hurt even more when used as a literally beat stick. I think Ulfar would enjoy having a symbol of authority that is also a weapon. This..actually brings up an interesting question I am unsure of the answer too.

@Mayto Can spells be used as enchantments? Like, can a skilled enchanter make a staff that anyone can use that makes a fireball?

Scepter sounds good, or a torque, something that can be used a regalia without being too martial or conspicuous.

Something to remember here, Hysh and Ulgu frequently gather in Civilization.

"Ulgu is different from most winds, in that it is drawn to civilization, and will accumulate there naturally. Only Hysh's propensity towards attraction by geometric patterns can be compared."

So, it's very likely that in a city, the throne would have no problems recharging Ulgu and Hysh enchantments, though Ghur might be tricky.

I'd also consider making the armrest of the throne out of smooth Ivory, in addition to a body of Silver and Steel. That way, the natural resources of Skjold would all be represented on the Throne.

Scepter sounds good, or a torque, something that can be used a regalia without being too martial or conspicuous.

On the other hand, the Scepter is more portable than a Throne, and can be carried into war.

The main reason I'm iffy on scepter is that it'd need to be an outright mace or warhammer to work, which is fine but then we're just making the weapon vs a scepter.

Plus scepters aren't as big an authority sign in warhammer fantasy. In Ulthuan it was a crown/sword (asuryan for the helmet and khaine for the sword.)

For the dwarves it is the Axe of Grimnir and was Ghal Maraz, but that was passed to the Empire, where it remains THE symbol of Authority...when it isn't fractured at least.

In bretonnia iirc it is a sword ala not!excalibur.

In kislev it *might* be the ice crown but i can't find anythign saying one way or another.

And in the rest of the world we don't know enough but there really aren't any scepters in the mix either way.

Might just be better to just make a weapon for Ulfar that has enough enchantments to act as THE symbol of Kingship.

Another reason I am leery of scepter vs crown or something like that, is because of a book called Gotrek And Felix: Zombieslayer, where a follower of a necromancer trying to take down an empire fortress was able to avoid touching a holy scepterhammer that would out him via holding it with furs.

I would not put it past a sufficiently skilled chaos follower to use something like a skin glove or other means to get around similar magics without a LOT more investiture of enchantment. Crowns need to be placed directly on the head/hair of the person without anything covering it so that would work better to at least ensure that whoever is trying to wear it isn't using foolery to avoid getting busted.

For Dawis, the symbol of authority is also the Throne of Power, and given that the Bjornlings have contacts with the Norscan Dawis, I suspect Thrones are also seen as symbols of authority. Mind you, portability becomes far less of an issue with a featherweight throne.

True, The throne might work for an out of battle symbol and a weapon/crown that can fit on a helmet might work but then again that assumed Luthien will be making it or even need to

It is theoretically possible to make a Teleporting Throne, though whether the Ulfar's descendants need one is another question. :V

Also, yes, it is possible to use spells as enchantments, but there is no guarantee of success here, unlike enchantments that Luthien already know. There was a proposal for a Masterwork bow with Amber Spear as Ammo last turn that lost to the armour, that attempted just that.

[X] [MICHAEL] Torc of Isha's Hearth: May Isha's blessing be upon the line of Michael! This Torc shall represent the notion of the family. It is comprised of a core of Caledorian Steel, wrapped around with a layer of Norscan Ivory from land predators and finished with a skin of Silver. It is hung upon a chain of Featherweight Caledorian Steel. Hsyh Runes invoking Isha of the Hearth, representing the family as a source of healing and order are inscribed upon the core of the Torc. Chamon to mend the Torc whenever it sustains damage is imbued into it. Ashy shall keep the wearer comfortable as if they are beside the family hearth. Ghur representing the grace of the predator, embedded upon Ivory shall improve the dexterity of the bearer, and the Runes of Ulgu inscribed on the silver skin shall keep the potency of this Torc hidden from eyes that might otherwise do the family harm. Such a torc truly will be fitting for a line of healers!
Enchantments: Blood of Metal (Chamon), Comfortable Heat (Aqshy), Runes of Ulgu (Ulgu), Energy of the Hawk - Dexterity Variant (Ghur/Experimental), Runes of Hysh - Isha Invocation (Hysh/Experimental)

[X] [GIFT] A shield to be cradled in, and a sword to hug

[X] [PLOT]: Alfar Igorsson was a sorcerer that had the village of Fimir's Bane annihilated in order to hide his true origins and prevent anyone from that village to be able to counter his alternative identity. The shaman of Jarl Igor Bjornkin was killed off to prevent him from being able to look into anything going on in that region and possible to make sure the Jarl could not put a stop to it if anything should be exposed since Alfar could waylay him. This also gave Alfar a jarl that was not too...paranoid to work under and would no doubt trust him when he needed to leave on 'shaman business' if asked.
Alfar as Erwuld Skolwin and Freja Sigridsdottir were part of a warpstone smuggling chain that would pass the goods in lead boxes to the ship Tylos's Lament. This prevented Alfar from being connected directly with the smuggling ring using Freja's shop as a cover to smuggle the warpstone through shipments of 'rich copper' to have something on the manifests as well as being exchanged to Alfar for possibly cursed or malignant artifacts made with the warpstone or for the warpstone, possibly by skaven or necromancers or vampires. This was shipped to persons unknown but likely to other chaos cults in the Empire and maybe Kislev.
The Tylos's Lament either had some kind of enchantment to let them know when the jig was up, possibly related to the death of Freja or Alfar or both, or whatever enterprise they were embarked on was completed by the year 1666 and it had no reason to come back. The event that caused this could have been very good or very bad, to cause Alfar to slip up in his usual efforts to contain his own drunkenness and as such may be part of what contributed to the ship not returning.
There were other shipments of warpstone that did not make it to the ship, suggesting that Skjold was the hub of an inter-chaos cult smuggling operation and that the Tylos's Lament was only one strand in a web of intrigue. The cult is most likely Tzeetchian in origin, especially with the spell that caused Alfar's body to self-immolate upon death, to ensure that his body could not be used to gain evidence or even his spirit to be pulled from the veil.

It looks like you didn't manage to copy and paste Argenten's Plot vote over fully. The sentence cut off.

A scepter, at its most basic. Is a ornamental metal stick. It is by the definition of a mace, A mace. And your concern is valid, but the enchantment is incredibly specific in that it is a radius thing. Not a touching one. No doubt touching it directly would mean a bad time for said individual but it isn't a requirement.

Regardless. Use the right metal, give it a good enchantment, and you can very much use the ornamental sign of rulership as an implement of blunt force trauma. You are correct about the fascination of the countries in Warhammer to use weapons as symbols of authority, especially the Empire what with the various blades and war-hammers. But that doesn't mean scepters don't exist. Nor does it disqualify their usage.

At the end of the day, it's just an idea. We could honestly make a god damn massive slab of metal in the shape of a sword, use our lightweight metal, and make that the thing.

Which isn't a half bad idea actually

I'm just iffy on if Ulfar would even want a throne? Yknow. Doesn't seem the type.

True but I figure if we're going to make a macelike weapon, we might as well just make a mace and leave the 'mace but once step removed' which is what a lot of scepters were, and was more trying to use examples that a lot of the polities just have outright weapons that are the symbols of their authority so scepters really aren't a thing I think in the setting so their being a symbol of rulership might not have taken off here and so it'd have less impact, especially in Norsca.

As for the enchantment thing, im not really that "concerned' but I wanted to bring up that example of people getting around something meant to detect them and wanted to get it in the thread ghestalt as something to counter or look into ways to prevent to clarify. The radius thing could help at least but this is also Norsca where the winds carry warpstone dust as well as dhar magic, so we'll need to make sure that it doesn't react to essentially background magical corruption.

It's not fascination, it's a matter of the world being a place where ornamental items don't really have as much priority as stuff that can either be used to keep you safe or use to make your enemies not living anymore. So your symbolic weapons also better be damn literal too :p

I wasn't saying that they don't exist but I was saying that the theme of them being an item of kings really hasn't taken off here due to said reasons and not really a long enough period of peace without conflict for the maces to become ceremonial and get strunk

At the end of the day, it's just an idea. We could honestly make a god damn massive slab of metal in the shape of a sword, use our lightweight metal, and make that the thing.

True, not trying to say that making something for them is bad, just trying to make sure that what gets made is received the right way and has the right impact is all.

I'm just iffy on if Ulfar would even want a throne? Yknow. Doesn't seem the type.

Eh, he's got a throne already, just a Norscan made one, and since he's trying to emphasize how much of a proper KING he is like Bjorn and taking more elements of southern rulership, i can see him commissioning one as another sign of his wealth and prestige.

I have a better idea for Chamon.

An enchantment for steady hands.

Or, maybe a mental buff, like improved memory?

I don't expect the Torc to need repairs, given its made of Silver and Steel.

Hey @Mayto, can we try to learn about geometry from dwarfs?

We could try bribing them with a set of pliers that forge welds chainmail rings together with Chamon.

I don't mind if the thread wants to try for three experimental enchantments, by the way. If we can unlock two Craftsman-relevant Enchantments, so much the better. @argenten Your thoughts on Ironfist and Dragonparadox updated idea?

It is hung upon a chain of Featherweight Caledorian Steel. Hsyh Runes invoking Isha of the Hearth, representing the family as a source of healing and order are inscribed upon the core of the Torc. Chamon focus the mind to its task.
Enchantments: Increased Mental Acuity (Chamon/Experimental), Comfortable Heat (Aqshy), Runes of Ulgu (Ulgu), Energy of the Hawk - Dexterity Variant (Ghur/Experimental), Runes of Hysh - Isha Invocation (Hysh/Experimental)

[X] [GIFT] A shield to be cradled in, and a sword to hug

I don't mind if the thread wants to try for three experimental enchantments, by the way. If we can unlock two Craftsman-relevant Enchantments, so much the better. @argenten Your thoughts on Ironfist and Dragonparadox updated idea?
Eh, I'm good either way so i'll leave my vote as is and let the thread decide. they're close enough that changing it seems moot to me.
