I'd kinda like to encourage some of the other players to make a vote this time, so I'm going to either abstain or bandwagon this round.

Maybe find out why Mariko's frowning? I mean don't press too hard. Just ask her if somethings wrong. Other then that, just social. Pick a light hearted topic or even follow up with the last one or something.

Fool is clueless newbie with potential
The Fool is more than that. The Fool is limitless potential, capable of any and all things but at the same time nothing is set in stone with them. Their personality, goals and methods may all change at a moments notice, like a jester drunkenly wandering an infinity in paths. That's why in Persona the Fools can switch between so many personas: they can switch between the Confident Magician to the Secretive Moon to the Greedy Devil with no problem, something that normal people absolutely can not do. Tamiko is far too stable, far too sane, to be a proper Fool.

-[x] Small talk. Also, bounce ideas off each other for ideas on improving Mariko's barriers. For example, small, spike-like force fields that impale a witch from within, among other offensive uses of barriers. Also, can she use them to reflect attacks, instead of just blocking them? Can she shatter the barriers to send barrier shards flying towards enemies?

What if we asked Mariko why she doesn't play FFVIII since she likes it so much?

It could tell us something new about her home life, but I can't decide if it's rude to ask. A quick google says it runs on PC, so it doesn't seem that unrealistic that she could get it. Who knows, maybe we could get it for her as a present if her birthday happens to come up during the quest.

I wonder when this quest last had a vote split over something other than hugs.

You wait for Kishi to leave your sight before you turn to face the once more uncomfortable-looking Mariko. You are not entirely sure why she is frowning, but you have learned again that talking generally makes things better. It is the part where you start the conversation that's the hardest part.

"S-so… What are you looking at? Did you catch something interesting?" you say and take a step to stand next to the girl. She tears her eyes off one of the shelves housing some photos and turns to look at you, seemingly startled by your sudden question.

"Uh, it's nothing," Mariko tries assuring you, "Just… Looking around, I guess?"

You give her a quick nod in response, "Do you like it?"

For a moment Mariko's frown deepens. She doesn't know what to say or how to answer the simple question from you. Or maybe she has a some thoughts, but doesn't want to say them out loud...

"It's… Nice I suppose," she allows after a moment, "I haven't seen an apartment as spacious and decorated as this before…"

Well, Kishi's apartment is pretty nice all things considered. She herself doesn't seem to care about such things too much, as your mind helpfully supplies to you from the memories of your first visit here. And you find Kishi herself to be by far the most important part of it yourself.

"Yeah, it can appear somewhat large," you say, "But Kishi seems to prefer coming over to staying here. The first time I came here was after my first witch hunt to get some bandages for my wounds. We didn't really use magical healing that much back then!"

Well, you didn't even know about the ability in the first place and relied on the fast healing process of a Magical Girl. Shows how you've changed since then, now it's better to at least close all the bleeding and otherwise obvious wounds before doing anything. You're fairly sure you still have some places still broken and waiting for recovery.

But that reminds you, "Say, how did you like to hunt with us? I mean, sure, we ended up skipping school, and that's bad… But did you get anything out of it? Aside from the grief seed, I mean."

Mariko frowns again for a moment, but this time the sentiment is washed away by a light even if hesitant smile. "Yeah… I enjoyed it," she admits bashfully, unsure if she should have actually said it out loud.

You smile right back at her, glad to have confirmation about Mariko beginning to get along with Kishi. "Great to hear! We really need to do something like this again some day," you cheer her on and Mariko nods, "And by then we have practised more and become even better too!"

In other words, improved upon your abilities in the abandoned amusement park. You have the strange thing you pulled off with the rider witch to figure out. And Mariko is still a newcomer, even if her performance was quite incredible on all four of the witches you faced today.

She still needs the practice, though. If only because you want to see yourself what can be done with those purple force fields.

"But say, a thought…" you begin, "Do you think we could improve upon your barriers? For example, make small spike-like fields to impale witches from within? Could you reflect attacks instead of just blocking them? Can you shatter barriers to send, uh… barrier shards? Well, something flying towards enemies, anyways…"

Mariko is completely taken aback your wave of enthusiasm, and her answer comes across rather weak. "Um, probably?" she mumbles, only to get cut off by the sound of a door opening and closing near you, "Well, I-I'll try explaining this stuff later. The barriers aren't exactly simple."

You nod at Mariko, somewhat disappointed that you didn't get to gush over magical abilities more. But there isn't too much time before the school ends. There is stuff you need to do in the city before you go grab Evelyn and head out to meet Ariane.

"Well, I guess so," you say and turn to greet a quizzical Kishi clad in casual civilian clothing, "But since we are done here… Is everyone okay with going to library? I-I kind of need to borrow some books for later."

Nobody objects to your suggestion and the three of you start making your way to the library as fast as you can. There's not too much time to dilly-dally, so you make somewhat liberal use of roof-hopping on your way there at first.

Along the way, you try starting a conversation with Kishi and Mariko, but it seems that neither one is really up to having small talk with all of you just yet. Mariko especially seems to be in thought and her reactions to any questions about how she is are greeted with blank surprise as she is pulled from her thoughts.

Kishi on the other hand strike up some chatter with you, with you talking about what you're here for. You are told that you probably ought to hasten your pace with the series if you intend on catching Evelyn (marathon time tonight?). And that you really should read the other book you loaned previously.

Otherwise, you talk a bit about the coming weekend and the upcoming trip to Mitakihara proper before you finally reach the huge building. You make a beeline to the fantasy shelves, hoping that the other books from the Potter series were not taken yet. Fortunately, they still have copies left…

...For a single moment anyways, as you grab all six of them and sigh in relief. Success!

What do you do?

[] Talk with Kishi and Mariko

[] Loan some other books.

[] Go meet up with Evelyn in the school
-[] Inform her that you'll wait for her outside the school area.
-[] Go into the school and wait for her outside the classroom
-[] Crash into the classroom and kidnap her.

[] Telepathy Ariane.

[] Write-in.

You have two sword manuals completely unread too in addition to the fantasy book you have borrowed.

Also, as another pointless ramble note, continuing from the previous one, I've often thought about a lot of silly categories and assigned qualities for the characters here. There are a lot, but these have ranged from theme/combat music to what sort of decks they would use if they were in YGO world.
