Chapter 2 - What lies behind a broken mirror 10
[x] Telepathy Mariko. We're almost done. We'll be there shortly.
[x] Continue talking to Kishi.
-[x] "It'll be alright Kishi. Mariko really does want to apologize to you. I'm sure of that."
-[x] "I know it's asking a lot, but can you talk to Mariko and let her apologize? I really do think that it would help Kishi. You shouldn't have to live in fear of Mariko any longer. You don't need to be afraid of confronting her. "
-[x] "You won't have to do it alone. I will be here with you."
[x] Take Kishi's hand. Squeeze it.
[x] If Kishi's willing, start heading back. Go slowly.
[x] Telepathy Mariko.
-[x] Before you talk to Kishi, I need to say some things because it's important. First, you need to be careful about what you say. Things that may seem harmless or not a big deal to you may be absolutely hurtful to Kishi. So please don't call her Happy Girl or anything like that.
-[x] Be kind. Be gentle. Most of all, you need to show Kishi how genuinely sorry you are. We may not be able to solve everything in a day but we can make a lot of progress right here and now. It's not hopeless. I know you can do it Mariko.

Well, now that you think of it, Mariko's clothing was pretty thin and clearly not meant for the cold outside air. She probably transformed somewhere inside without bothering to put on any winter clothing. It is so much easier to bear the weather when you are transformed after all.

'Uh, sorry about this!' you try to excuse yourself, 'We're almost done here. Just wait for a bit, we'll be there shortly.'

'It's fine, there's no need to rush it...'
she weakly assures you and falls silent. While she tries to pretend that the cold isn't bothering her, she is definitely not unaffected by it. You might need to get back there soon.

You turn your attention back to the girl in your embrace and smile warmly.

"It'll be alright Kishi. Mariko really does want to apologize to you. I'm sure of that!" you say, "I know it's asking a lot, but can you talk to Mariko and let her apologize? I really do think that it would help, Kishi…. You shouldn't have to live in fear of Mariko any longer. You don't need to be afraid of confronting her."

You gently ease your hold on Kishi as you speak and let her get some space between you. The girl's expression seems uncertain still, but there is a faint and almost invisible glint of determination present in her eyes.

You momentarily avert your gaze from Kishi's eyes and reach out to grasp her hand. She looks at your crossed fingers with puzzlement, but seems to accept the gesture. You give her hand a gentle squeeze and say, "You won't have to do it alone… I will be here with you."

"I-I know.... I-I know I don't need to be afraid with you here with me… B-but yet?"
the girl begins with clear hesitation and pauses for a second to draw in a deep breath, "Y-yet, I'm unsure. I-it feels like I should just run and pretend this didn't happen…"

"Kishi, you-"
you try to say, but get interrupted by Kishi slowly shaking her head and squeezing your hand tight in turn.

"B-but don't worry... I won't. I-I can't just ignore this anymore, I can make it through this," she continues with a steadily calming voice, "T-thank you, Tamiko.... L-let's go."

While you are still stupefied by Kishi's words, you nonetheless manage to give her a hasty but acceptive nod. You turn around and begin walking back to the front door with you in front holding her hand.

'We're coming now!' you also send to Mariko before you can round the corner, 'B-but before you talk to Kishi, I need to say some important things. First, be careful about what you say. things that may seem harmless or not such a big deal may be absolutely hurtful to Kishi. So please don't call her Happy-Girl or anything like that.'

'Huh? Y-yeah, I promise to try…'
Mariko tells you back, sounding quite distant… even increasingly anxious?

'Don't leave it at that, though… Be kind. Be gentle. Most of all, you need to show Kishi how genuinely sorry you are. We may not be able to solve everything in a day, but we can make a lot of progress right here and now! It's not hopeless. I know you can do it Mariko!'

A long pause reign from the other side, before you can her answer you back with a muted voice, '...Thank you.'

'Don't worry, just remember what I said and it will go well,'
you soothe her as she appears in your vision. She is standing on the street, looking at your direction with an almost dread-filled expression, while hugging and rubbing her arms from the cold. She is clearly trying to gather herself for the inevitable talk she is not truly prepared for.

Kishi on the other hand squeezes your hand tighter than before as soon as she notices Mariko. She gulps loudly and for a moment it looks like she may be about to run back around the corner to hide.

However, you don't get to express your concern as she manages to steel herself without your intervention. She hastens her steps to stand next to you.

For a while, nothing happens aside from Mariko gulping and throwing her gaze to the ground. An awkward silence reigns between all of you, only for the stillness to be broken when something cold comes in contact with your face.

You take a quick look up in puzzlement and notice it has finally begun to snow. It has been a while since this happened…

You don't ponder on this for long. Kishi gently detaches her hand from yours and brings it to her side in a tight fist. You turn to look at her in worry, but she just shakes her head.

'W-whatever happens next… Please don't interfere,' she asks you through telepathy. She sounds anxious and fearful, but yet seems to be successfully gathering her confidence. 'P-please, just trust me on this one.'

Kishi takes a couple of steps forward to bring her in front of Mariko. The black-haired girl raises her shaking gaze from the ground and bites her lips for a moment. Kishi's fists clench and begin to shake... "S-so, um… Ha-, er... Kishi… I-I, uh, just wanted to say that I am… well, I'm sorry for-"

She doesn't get to finish her awkward stuttering before Kishi punches her in the face, causing her to stumble back and fall flat on her rear. Drops of blood from her nose fall on the small layer of white snow. She stumbles around on the ground confusedly, trying to make sense of her bearings.

"D-do you know how I'm feeling at the moment?" Kishi asks and drops her fists to her side. Mariko seems too dazed from the power of the strike to answer the question, and instead shakily puts her left hand on her broken nose.

Mariko's eyes widen as her fingers come in contact with the blood. "W-why did you.. O-oh no… No!" she stammers and begins to shake in fear as the strange glimmer you saw yesterday begins to form around her. She throws her head wildly around as if disbelieving what is happening at the moment.

This time the reflection is Kishi's, something she must have realized.

Mariko clumsily tries to get some distance between her and Kishi by dragging herself backwards. "P-please no…. Y-you… You'll just get hurt by that! I-I… please run, m-maybe it won't…" she futilely cries out in desperation and you can see tears forming near her eyes already.

Kishi's face remains nigh expressionless, but her knuckles seem to turn white like the falling snow around you.

What do you do?

[] Trust Kishi, and let her handle this on her own.

[] Okay, you need to step in, this is not going to work like this...

[] Write-in.

So, yeah, my timetables stretched a bit today. Hence the late update.

Not sure if this is going to work, but trying to meddle too much might make things worse. This is something that they need to sort out between themselves. We made it possible, the rest is up to them.

Clever. Kishi wants to see how Mariko reacts to (unwillingly) hurting her.
If Mariko really doesn't care about hurting Kishi she won't panic but if she does care then her panic will prove it.

Or maybe she just wanted to punch Mariko. Madokami knows I've wanted to at times.

Hmmm I guess I have to accept this, but should she get heavier damage than expected then we should make our displeasure known by ignoring it and comfort Mariko. Besides Kishi would got what she needed out of this

While IC we have no knowledge of this and thus cannot act on it, I would like to remind everyone that Mariko is the reason why Kishi is a magical girl. I suspect that that will be a bit of a roadblock to the two of them working out their issues.

On a lighter note, maybe once everything has settled we can try to get the two of them to bond over books or something. We should ask Mariko if she likes Twilight or not. If she doesn't, the two of them can bond over the literary atrocity that is the series.

I really don't think those two will be friends anytime soon. Maybe eventually.

Mariko almost has an instinctual hostility towards Kishi, even if she does know it's wrong and feels bad about it. And Kishi obviously isn't exactly fond of Mariko for getting her turned into a magical girl robot and for being horrible to her in general.

Tamiko's little circle is beginning to get big. And it'll probably get bigger. She's most likely going to have a few friends who don't get along that well with each other.

Not even the magical girl piece, Kishi nearly died because of Mariko.

Kishi has something she needs to say. If we intervene now, she's never going to be able to say it and Mariko is never going to fully understand why she just got punched. Ugh. I gotta let this play out.

Anime tells me this is the right course and I have never know anime to be wrong.

The interesting thing is that in a better world than this one Kishi and Mariko would have probably become best friends with each other. But with what happened...
