[X] It's not too late, and it's not hopeless. While she may have tried to make things right before, she didn't have you around before did she? She won't be doing this alone. You can and will help her.
[X] And the first step is talking to Kishi and apologizing to her. Things are pretty terrible between them and it won't be easy, but Kishi is a good person and your friend. She'll listen to you, and you can mediate things between them. If they can just give it a chance and just try to talk to and understand each other, then you know that things can work out.
[X] After that, whatever problems or issues she has, you can keep helping her work through them and just be there for her.

Well, I guess I should just close the votes. Doubt there will be other votes if I wait.

"It's not too late! And it's not hopeless!" you tell Mariko with a steadily growing conviction. You think you're making visible progress here with the girl, which serves to further your belief that doing this is not a lost cause. You just know something good is going to come out of this!

"While you may have tried to make things right before… You didn't have me there before, right?" you ask the girl rhetorically, "You won't be doing this alone! I can… and will help you do it. Just trust me!"
Would your presence truly mean anything?
Mariko's body twitches slightly under your grasp, but you refuse to loosen your tight grip on her shoulders. She twists her head a bit to give you an unsure look. It is not much, but she seems to be lending her ear to what you are going to suggest to her.
It is so arrogant of you…
"The first step for doing that is to talk with Kishi and apologize to her! I know things are pretty terrible between you, and it won't be easy. B-but Kishi is a good person and my friend..." you explain. Although, you have to fight down the urge to list the whole slew of words you would have preferred to use when describing your best friend.
...to claim that you can help anyone...
"...She'll listen to me, and I can be there to mediate things between you two. If you can just give it a chance, and try to talk and understand each other… Well, I know that things can work out!"
...much less 'make things right'...
Mariko stays quiet as she lets your words sink in. It is difficult to say what is going on inside her head at the moment, but she seems to have conflicting feelings about your suggestion at the very least. Something must still be bothering her…

"A-and... And what then?" she manages to ask out loud with a strained voice, "E-even if Happy-girl somehow agrees to it... What then? W-what is going to happen after that?"

So it is the aftermath she is worried about? You don't have much of an idea to be honest with yourself... With what you are doing here you just want to help out Kishi with her troubles, preferably in a permanent manner. Whatever comes after that hasn't really crossed your mind.

Making up with Kishi is the first thing to do, naturally. But whatever comes afterward? Well, you did briefly think of maybe making friends with Mariko if she's more like what you saw yesterday. That's about it, really... Guess you'll just have to cross that bridge when the time comes?

But until then...

"After that... Well, whatever problems or issues you have... I can keep helping you with those, and just be there for you," you promise her, "Just understand that you're not alone in this. I am here to see things made right again."

That seems to be enough for Mariko. She hesitates for a moment before lifting her head from the side and forcing her red, tear-stricken eyes to meet yours.

Conflicting emotions flash in the girl's expression. She seems to be both afraid of what is going to happen next... and almost hopeful, that maybe something good might come out of this.

Mariko gives you a prompt, even if nervous nod. Your heart threatens to leap out of your chest as it dawns n you that she is willing to go through with his. Success!

Out of the corner of your eye you can notice an almost happy even if thoughtful smile appear on your uncle's face as he rubs his neck wearily.

What do you do?

[] Talk with Mariko over breakfast.

[] Talk with your uncle before he leaves for his work.

[] Telepathy Kishi/Ariane.

[] Have the serious talk with Kishi as soon as she arrives
-[] Write-in a plan.

[] Write-in.

Well, that one's over at least. Not going to tell how many mines (if any) you stepped on, but you did avoid the major pitfalls at least.

Still, make no mistake, the conversation with Kishi and Mariko will not be an easy one, as you can probably imagine.
