Chapter 2 - Making peace 10
[X] Time to leave, you did promise your uncle you'd be back soon.
[X] Plan for the evening
-[X] Telepathy Kishi. Ask her what she knows of Tokyo's, and the surrounding areas' Magical Girl scene.
-[x] Talk with uncle.
--[x] How was his day?
--[x] Deflect his teasing if necessary.
-[x] Dinner.
-[x] Remember that you forgot to do your Friday homework...
-[x] Then read one of your books if you have the time, then sleep.
[X] Check Soul Gem.

That can wait for another day. You slowly ease your iron-gripped hug on Ami and look her in the face. You suddenly realize that you must have been here for quite some time, and after promising your uncle you'd come back soon… Chances are he already has some well-prepared words for you, mainly pertaining to your relationship status.

"I-I think I'll try contacting her again… T-then we can have everyone together again, even if only for a day…" you say to the other girl, desperately hoping that those words wouldn't prove to be empty, "B-but I have to go now, I promised my uncle I wouldn't stay here for long. I-I promise you, I'll come see you again!"

You rise from your seat and Ami nods gently at your words, offering you one final warm smile before you leave, "I'll hold you to that, Tamiko. It really was great to see you again, even if it has been a while. Stay safe out there, okay?"

"T-there's no need to worry about me," you tell her as you turn to leave, "After all, I am still here!"

===

Your uncle has clearly waited for quite a while. Still, it is a bit strange sight to see him leaning on one of the benches, pretending to be asleep with a worn magazine covering his face.

You clear your throat to get his attention, "U-uncle, I'm done, can we leave now?"

The man removes the magazine and casually puts it aside. He doesn't appear to be particularly annoyed at you, much to your relief. However, he seems to be interested enough about your ad hoc visit that he needs to ask you, "Hmm, how was Ami?"

"S-she was alright… I-it has been so long since we last met that it was difficult to recognize her," you say, feeling happier the more you think about it, "B-but we… she wanted to be friends with me again. I-I just..."

...You're starting to cry again, but this time it feels good. However, you launch yourself into a sudden hug with your uncle, if only to mask the tears of joy, "I-I'm just so happy… Maybe everyone else… M-maybe they too want to be friends with me again…"

Your uncle ruffles your hair gently, "That is good to hear, Tamiko. But you needn't worry about them being reluctant. I think they'd be happy to hear from you, just have faith in that."

You ease on the hug a bit and look up to your smirking uncle, "But anyways, I think we ought to get going before we miss the bus. I still need to cook the dinner, you know…"

The busride is rather uneventful and there aren't many people aboard. You and your uncle manage to get free seats near the back. The drive itself is rather long, and after a while you find yourself trying to combat the lack of conversation between you two.

"U-uncle, since you already asked me.... H-how was your day?" you ask awkwardly, "Y-you must have have had something for the afternoon too, right?"

Your uncle breaks his gaze from the window and the passing city scenery to look at you in mild puzzlement, "Huh, you sure you want to hear something as boring as that?"

You nod.

"Well, there isn't much to tell. Had some lunch with Cathy after she roped me into cooking and spent the afternoon going through some papers for tomorrow."

Your uncle scratches his chin thoughtfully, "I'm not looking forward to that. Try not to spread it around, but there is this club near the Verrier building that acts as a place for some shady shit. Still, they can get pretty annoying to foreign companies so we try to keep up a live and let live relationship… And being the lucky person I am, I'll be there for the meeting. Joy…" he finishes with sarcasm.

"B-but, why is that even necessary? Couldn't they just be arrested if they do illegal things?" you ask curiously.

"If it was a good world, yes. But as it is, we'll just have to live with things like this…" your uncle explains as the bus pulls to a halt, "Huh, guess we're here already. Come on, let's get going!"

The both of you make your way home, thinking about things. It is a bit worrying to hear your uncle having to do things like this, but he seems to find to whole thing more annoying than dangerous. He probably has it under control. But as for you, a sudden realization strikes you.

You have forgotten to do your homework for tomorrow. And after all the effort into picking up the pace again, this cannot stand!

The moment you and your uncle make it to the apartment, you run to your room to grab your books and pencils, leaving your bemused uncle to get working in the kitchen. Unfortunately, the homework for the weekend is rather extensive, and you barely manage to finish before your uncle knocks on the door and calls you for dinner.

He seems to have made stew today, and you soon find yourself gorging through your wholly filled plate. It has been a long day, and you think you deserve to eat heavily every once in a while. Besides, it's not like your uncle minds that his cooking is appreciated like this.

Well, that's how you excuse yourself anyways. But between the hospital visit and the homework before the dinner, the night is closing on you. Having not slept that much last night and having had an emotionally draining day, you simply get to the bed as fast as you can. There isn't too much time for any books.

However, you take the chance to call Kishi with telepathy, 'K-Kishi, are you awake?'

'Y-yes? W-what is it? I-is something wrong, d-did something happen?' she sends back nigh immediately, sounding concerned.

'N-no, but after promising Ariane and thinking about it… I-I just thought if you knew about the Magical Girl scene in Tokyo and surrounding area?'

There is a long period of silence on the other end before Kishi finally answers with some reluctance clear in her voice, 'I-I don't know about T-Tokyo… B-but K-Kazamino is a b-bad place for M-Magical Girls. T-they are aggressive and t-temperamental in their h-hunt for grief seeds.'

Okay that sounds pretty bad…. But how does she even know about this?

'T-the main city of M-Mitakihara should be safer, t-though, and t-there aren't that m-many witches there...' she finishes.

'D-do you know why that is?' you ask.

'H-hard to say, m-maybe an efficient M-Magical Girl keeps everything in check?'

Huh, so the main City is the better place then. But it makes you wonder what kind of Magical Girls there truly are everywhere. Doubtful you are the only ones, and getting to know other ones would be great, even if Kishi seems to be wary of the idea.

'A-anyhow, I'll see you tomorrow, Tamiko! G-good night' Kishi finishes

'Night!' you send back and turn on your side.

Getting rest feels just about right…

With great reluctance you hop out of your comfortable sheets. You can think of better ways to wake to another school week. But on the other hand, there are probably way worse ones too, so you'll just have to live with this.

A quick trip to the bathroom and a change of clothes later you find yourself sitting in the kitchen, your unfocused stare fixed on the table. I front of you is laid a pair of bento boxes, both packed for the day. Even in your groggy state of mind you have a faint idea what to expect from the contents.

You sigh out loud and take a look to your side. Your uncle has prepared breakfast too, but you are not really sure what to make of it. While the bento boxes are definitely traps and therefore safe, you are not entirely sure what to expect from the sandwiches he has made. For all you know, there could be some evil surprise waiting there to torment you. No, better play it safe and ignore the breakfast in favor of your own cooking.

You put everything together hastily and sit down to wait while the rice boils. While it won't really take long, you realize that you could probably use the time better. For example, talking with your friends through telepathy, 'G-good morning! How are you all?'

'Morniiiing!' Ariane sends you back almost immediately, voice filled with enthusiasm and energy for the day, 'It's a nice day outside too! Are we going to the city today? Please tell me we are going there~?'

'G-good morning, Tamiko, A-Ariane,' Kishi follows suit, fully awake, 'and w-we'll see, it's too e-early to say anything about the coming day yet, r-right? J-just be patient, o-okay?'

'Aww…' Ariane whines. You chuckle.

'Kishi's right about that,' you gently tell Ariane, 'we will have to make it through the school first. And you have some form of education over there too, right? S-so just focus on main through that first.'

'Fine, fine… But I still want you to come over today!'

'Well, it shouldn't be too much of a problem,' you say, 'but anyways. K-Kishi, are you on your way here?'

'Y-yes, 10 minutes.' Huh, looks like you don't have too much time left. You take another look to your side to check the situation with your food and-

...Damn, it's boiling over. You send out a hasty message to your friends to excuse yourself before jumping towards the rice boiler 'Oh no… I-I'll talk with you later, my rice is burning!'

'T-Tamiko… H-how do you even burn rice?' Kishi asks you incredulously.

'I-it's possible! I'll see you soon…' you send pack as you pour your overcooked rice to your plate. You are left wondering why you even thought this would be good idea. However, none can do, and you hastily eat through the entire portion in spite of the bad taste, before setting up your bag for the day and leaving outside.

Kishi is already waiting for you downstairs, and waves at you weakly as you approach. You wave back with a happy smile on your face.

You don't talk that much on the school trip, comfortable with each other's presence alone. Nothing particularly interesting happens on your way there, and you soon find yourself early in the school watching the nigh empty classroom.

Evelyn sprints into the room a second before the teacher arrives, breathing heavily and looking like she'd been run over by a herd of wild dogs on her way there. You stare at her with raised eyebrows, unsure what to tell her as she sits down next to you with a relieved sigh.

"Nailed it," she states in a deadpan tone before turning to look at you, "Yeah, I know, forgot to set up an alarm and had to run here all the way…"

"R-right,' you say unsurely. You can emphasize with the feeling… "Well, anyways, how was your weekend?"

"Meh, pretty forgettable overall. I mostly spent it playing video games," she tells you sheepishly, "and reading through the books. Say, how are you doing with the Potter books. I'm half-way through the third one at the moment. Looking pretty good to be honest."

Err, "I-I'm slightly behind, but don't worry…" you summon up your excuses. You are pretty far behind and need to step up your game here, "I'll catch up to you."

"I'll hold you to that! But uh, do you think we should listen to the teacher? I think the lesson has started already."

You both look at the droning teacher in front of the class. Right, time to get to work.

What do you do?

[] Talk with Kishi/Evelyn during lunch.
-[] Plan for the day?

[] Talk during class.

[] Skip gym, there's no point in going there.

[] Write-in.

===

The next scene will start with the gym unless you want to play truant during the class (heh heh heh). This is mostly to give you a chance to plan for the day and just hang out with Evelyn/Kishi.

Anyways, I'm thinking of doing some organization work for the quest later today, and I'd like to hear your opinions on which of these are actually necessary or useful.
- A rough timeline table, should make understanding the events so far easier.
- Character profiles.
- Story only -thread because goddamn, 220 pages is pretty intimidating when you look at it without having read anything prior. Also makes quoting those old parts later on easier because things are easier to find.
- QM-quotes list- Basically gather non-threadmarked quotes from me that explain events, powers, policies and such.
- Requests? If you have something you'd wish to get cleared up or answered, or to be easier to find.

- Character profiles- Would be great if you can add the best anime representation of the characters.
- Story only -thread-great idea
- QM-quotes list-great idea cause my understanding of Tamiko's power is a bit unclear.

Only question is how much crossover will you be doing with other quests?

Well the former is a bit intentional on my part, so no surprise. But there are a couple of things I think I've mentioned...

As for the question, well, I don't think I've seen any quests where Northern Mitakihara has been mentioned or even indirectly used. I have no plans for a crossover with anything, but due to MMori being pretty much out of the way of most stories, feel free to imagine other quests happening elsewhere or vice versa if you want.

I like the character profile idea, mostly because I have a bad habit of assuming Tamiko looks like your avatar. A story only thread would be nice for new readers, I expect. Personally, I wouldn't worry about a QM quotes list. Just add the parts relevant to the characters to their profiles.

[x] Telepathy Ariane for permission to bring friends along, if they want to.
[x] Talk with Kishi/Evelyn during lunch.
-[x] Want to accompany me to Ariane's after school? (If with permission)
--[x] To Evelyn: Ariane is a new friend that I made. (If with permission)
-[x] Whatever they want to talk about.

[x] Listen during class.

I gotta say, even over the short period of time it's covered there have been multiple times where the time/day section header thing in my quest has helped me quickly check what happened when without having to flip through a whole bunch of updates. While my approach may be overkill, something that clearly lays out the timeline seems like it would definitely be helpful to us and possibly to you as well.
