We are in a place where they practice medicine, still, we might want to jump out of the window if we don't want security to be on our tails.

Yeah, but I don't think doing it as the person who cannot into human interaction is at all a good idea in any way. Empathy is all well and good, but the chances are that us attempting to comfort her will actively make things worse.

That doesn't mean we can't learn to care about others again.

Tatsuya has already passed through a lot of things when he was even younger than Nagisa and knows the feeling of not having a family. But more importantly, we are in another world where we have people we can talk to without hostility, people who we can give a bit of trust, people who have shown that care about us; it would be plausible for us to not want to allow a child to suffer something akin to what we did and to try to at least be a shoulder to cry upon.

If empathy is not a good argument, then remember that Ryubey has already told us of the mechanics of the meguca system si we know what happens if a Puella falls to despair.

That's not even true, we care enough about Mami and Sayaka through exposure, and we cared about Her enough that the memory echoes. Tatsuya is a good person that lived in a world that didn't reward him for being a good person. He did what he had to do to survive.

This is no longer that world, and he knows what will happen if he doesn't do something for Nagisa. He's not going to stand by and just let it happen.

I'm not going to allow him to be that sort of person.

In non-comedy quests, I consider it important to keep the protagonist someone I can cheer-on. Others may have different priorities, but this is my vote.
