Yes, but aren't we trying to save Madoka? Her contracting is either going to drive us insane or make us start looping. Maybe both.

I don't think she would have been a witch for too long, Mami would have known about her and hunted her in a short frame of time.

When a grief seed is filled with grief, it is believed that they reform the witches they came from. That is why Kyubey takes them. But they don't just go away.

When a magical girl becomes a witch, they don't spawn a grief seed that sits there for some time before hatching. They form a witch on the spot.

Charlotte's grief seed was sitting out in the open. She clearly hadn't just transformed into a witch. Which means a filled grief seed was planted there, likely by Kyubey. Which means she had already been slain, then filled with grief. Some time had to have passed.
 
It's entirely possible it's also an ascended Familiar; we've never seen it happen and have no idea as to how that would go down.

Probably not growing on a wall like a mushroom though. Perfectly at teenage girl eyelevel. Unnoticed for however long. When Mami is out of range of telepathy but close enough to fetch by running.
