I don't remember a time when there were stars in the sky. I don't remember the time when the air...
Waking up

Title Incoming. Please Hold.
Location
Somewhere else.
I don't remember a time when there were stars in the sky. I don't remember the time when the air was breathable and the ground wouldn't crack beneath your feet. I don't remember not having to scavenge for food and water. I don't remember a time when the people around you were something more then monsters by necessity. I don't remember not having to kill to survive. I don't remember a time when the world wasn't falling apart.

What I do remember is my sister. I remember her smile, her laugh, her kindness. I remember when she used to play with me and read to me and just spend time with me. I remember when she would hold me close and make everything okay. I remember her.

And I remember how she was taken from me.

I remember how The Devil came into our lives and controlled us. She was obsessed with my sister and so she made a gilded cage for her. A cage where everyday was perfect, where nothing went wrong and no one aged and the same perfect days would play out again and again and again while the rest of the world burned and rotted and died a slow death. I remember how she turned my parents into mindless puppets. I remember how one day the Devil simply forgot about me and so I ceased to exist in that happy little world of theirs.

I don't remember how I survived but I did. I survived and grew and learned how to live in a world that was dying. I don't remember how long I lived like that, how many years I spent in hell, but I do remember eventual meeting… something. Something that made me an offer. I could have power, strength, and magic. I could have the ability to make things right again, to fix things. All I had to do was one simple task, one little thing. I accepted.

My name is Tatsuya Kaname and I'm going to kill the Devil.

You wake up on something cold, hard and flat. This isn't really all that special seeing as how you've been sleeping on the ground for years. What's special is that when you open your eyes and look up you see that the sky is blue. Blue! Not the horrific shade of purple that means that the deadly red sun is out, not the slate gray of the acid clouds, not the pitch black starless void of night, but blue. You feel something warm on your cheeks and you realize that you're crying.

You try and figure out what's going on and then the memories come rushing back, fragmented and missing some pieces but enough for now. The meeting with that strange little creature, so similar to the Devil's spies but not quite the same. The offer it gave you and how you accepted. A brief pain in your chest. It's parting words. "And there you go! Everything you need to kill the Devil. Well, sort of. You see you can't actually kill the Devil, not as she is now. She does control the entire universe after all. However, if you were to kill her before she became the Devil, then you might have a chance. So back in time you go! Thank you for your contribution to the fight against the Devil!" And then everything went black.

You can hardly believe it. You couldn't have been sent back in time, it's impossible. But the evidence is all around you. The sky is blue, the clouds are fluffy and white, the sun is yellow and the air is fresh and clean. You stand up and take a look around. You're on the roof of a building. A quick look off the edge shows you people walking about, cars on the roads, children laughing and playing. It's too much for you to take in at once and you sit back down.

You take a few deep breaths and try to gather your thoughts. Okay, you've been sent back in time so you can kill the Devil before she ends the world and, more importantly, takes away your sister. Simple problem, simple solution. Minor complication in that most of your memories are either incomplete or simply gone. Like what the Devil actually looks like. On the bright side, it looks like that creature kept up its side of the bargain. You feel stronger, faster and healthier than you have in years. You can also feel a sort of power inside of you as well. You guess that must be the magic the creature said you'd have.

After taking a few more minutes to acclimate to you're new situation you decide that you should probably get going. The Devil isn't going to murder herself after all. You get up and dust yourself off before realizing that your clothes are different. They seem to have been replaced with much nicer versions of what you were wearing before. You coat, once a ratty, threadbare thing that could barely keep the cold out, is now a black leather coat with a hood that reaches your knees. You shirt seems to be made of silk or something and is bright red, whereas before it was so dirty you didn't know what color it was. You jeans… are still jeans. Very high quality jeans though. And finally your shoes, if you could call some pieces of cloth tied together with a piece of card board as a sole shoes, have been replaced with a solid pair of boots, also black.

You shake your head and berate yourself of being distracted by something as simple as clothes. You have things that need doing! Finding either your sister or the Devil would be a good start. But where should you start looking?

[] Your old home? You think you remember where that is.
[] You faintly remember your sister leaving the house everyday to go … somewhere? Her friends went there too. Perhaps if you look for a place with large amounts of teenagers you might find something.
[] Just wander around randomly. Hopefully you'll find something.
[] You sense… something. Something menacing.

AN: So this is an idea that's been bouncing around my head for a while but I wasn't sure whether I wanted it to be a quest or a fanfiction. I'm going to try it out as a quest but if it doesn't work out I'll make it a fanfiction. Write in's are welcome and so is constructive criticism on my writing. Have fun!

Roof Hopping
You can sense something off in the distance. It feels dark, dangerous and… sad? It also seems similar to the power you can feel deep inside you but corrupted some how. Normally you'd avoid it, you didn't survive the apocalypse for god knows how long by running face first into danger, but if you're looking for the Devil then investigating evil sounds like a good place to start.

Of course, that leaves the question of how you're going to get there. You are stuck on a roof after all and the next building in the direction of the evil feeling has to be at least 10 meters away. You could climb down and walk but… Something tells you that you can actually make the jump. You can feel the power coursing though you, enough power to kill the Devil. Surely a little jump like this is nothing, right? You start to bounce on the balls of your feet, hyping yourself up, before you take off running to wards the edge. As you reach the end of the roof you crouch down and push off.

You're in the air. You can feel the wind pushing against you as you move forward. You feel almost weightless. This must be what flying feels like. You start to laugh, a rough, hacking sort of laugh that hasn't seen use in years. You look down and see the ground quickly rushing past. A little too quickly in fact. You over shoot the roof you were aiming for and the next one too. You start to loose momentum a little past the third rooftop and finally you land on the fourth. Your landing is pretty rough too. You don't roll to bleed off momentum or anything, you just slam into the concrete.

Despite your less then graceful landing you're perfectly fine, not a scratch on you. You let out another quick laugh. You're really starting to enjoy this magic stuff. Still, you might want to try to throttle it back a little. It wouldn't do at all if you couldn't control your own strength. You'd hate yourself forever if when you finally do find Madoka you went to give her a hug and accidentally crush her to death.

Deciding to experiment, you try and make a small hop and see how far up that takes you. You hop and you go up a few inches, exactly as if you hopped in the air before you had magic. You decide to jump a little higher this time and you do so, a couple of feet in the air, about your max jump height from before you got magic. Happy you seem to be able to keep control on your new power you decide to try and put a little of that power into your next jump. You push off the ground and this time you reach about 15 ft before you head back down. That last jump was about as strenuous as the first little hop you made.

You decide that you've wasted enough time experimenting and start heading in the direction of the evil feeling once again, this time making small jumps between each roof instead of doing more of the mile long running jump you made before. You still make good time and in just over five minutes you've reached the building the feeling is coming from.

Unfortunately the building is massive, and more importantly, crowded. There must be hundreds of people in there, all of them walking about and talking to each other. The building itself is made of steel and glass and seems to be separated into smaller sections. You can see that through the windows that in the smaller sections people walking though the main hallways will go in, make exchanges of some sort with the people in the smaller section and walk out with bags of stuff. It's actually been so long since you've see trading for goods that it leaves you confused as to what they were doing for a good while.

You jump down off your rooftop to the ground and enter the building. Almost instantly you begin to feel uncomfortable. Instincts developed over years of hard living are all screaming at you that you're surrounded by enemies, you're about to be attacked, THEY WANT TO KILL YOU! You clench your fists and take deep breaths, reminding yourself that the people around you are not your enemies. It works, a little. Still taking deep breaths you wade into the crowd and head in the direction of the dark feeling. Luckily the feeling seems to originate in an area of the building with no one there. If you had to spend one more minute surrounded by more humans you probably would have either broken down and started screaming or lost it and started killing them.

The area you're in now is made of concrete rather than glass and metal. The lights also don't seem to work, leaving the area shrouded in darkness. After a bit of searching you manage to find the source of the feeling you've been following. It's some sort of glowing barrier or portal with butterfly designs on it, floating in the air. Actually, the barrier isn't quite the source. Whatever is causing this awful feeling, it's on the other side of this portal.

[x] Enter the barrier. Hopefully you can get some answers.
[x] Just walk away. It's dangerous and you don't know what you're getting into.

Unto the breach
You decide to enter the barrier. You were here and it would be pointless to turn back now. You tentatively touch the barrier and immediately pull back your hand. The barrier feels… gross is the word you can come up with. Still it didn't seem to actually hurt you so you step into the portal.

Intense nausea immediately slams into your gut as you're surrounded by just total wrongness. It only lasts a second and you can breath again. Then you open your eyes and feel nauseous all over again. Wherever you've ended up is weird, even by your standards and you've seen the sky tear open and tentacles pour out until the Devil got off her ass and fixed it. You seem to be in some bizarre 3D scrapbook version of a rose garden mixed with a labyrinth. There are small fluffballs with moustaches and butterflies for legs tending to the roses with scissors. A flying ice cream cone with too many eyes, butterfly wings and moustache spots you and begins to cry out in alarm before dive-bombing you. You lean out of the way, letting the clumsy creature miss you. It turns around to try again but before it can do so you grab it out of the air and throw it to the ground. The thing wiggles pitifully, trying to get back into the air, before you stomp on it and it splatters like a bug on a windshield.

You look up and notice that the fluffballs have stopped trimming the roses and are now approaching you slowly, waving their scissors in a menacing fashion. More fluffballs and ice cream cones are entering the room as well. They must have heard the first creature's cries before you killed it.

However, before you can decide what to do you feel something, similar to how you sensed this place. Unlike the feeling that led you hear though, this new feeling that just burst into existence feels warm, bright and safe. This new feeling is coming from deeper in the labyrinth.

[x] These creatures are pathetic. Fight them off with just you fist and feet.
[x] You're in no danger from these things so maybe this is a good time to test out your magic.
[x] Ignore the fluffballs and ice cream cones. Race past them and investigate the new, golden feeling.

Short update, but whatever. It seemed like a good place for you to make a choice.

You found a 'Doka!
This update brought to you despite the best efforts of Fallout 4: the Quest for Duct Tape.

You don't know what these creatures are but it seems you pretty much ignore them for now. That new golden feeling should probably be investigated though. You dash forward through the ranks of the creatures before they can finish surrounding you and exit the room you started in. You run down a hallway that twists and turns a few time and leap up a set of stairs in a single bound, dodging the few creatures you come across. At the end of your dash you wind up at a door, behind which you can sense the source of the golden feeling.

Exercising caution, you inch open the door and slowly enter, keeping quite. On the other side of the door is a balcony overlooking a courtyard. In the courtyard is a shining circle, which the golden feeling is emanating from, and inside the circle is you sister, exactly how you remember her! Your heart leaps into your throat and you nearly jump down to grab her and get her out of this acid trip. But that sort of kneejerk reaction is what gets people killed so you force yourself to breathe again and observe the room.

Of course you start with Madoka. She's uninjured, thankfully, but she's understandably scared. In her arms is one of the Devil's white rats, which is heavily injured. You're confused as to what it's doing here but the rats aren't actually dangerous so you push that aside for now. Besides Madoka there are two other teenage girls in the circle, one standing next to her and one standing across from her. They're just talking for now so you keep scanning for threats. Outside of the glowing circle is a horde of the denizens of the labyrinth, both the ice cream cones and the fluffballs. However it seems that they can't enter the circle, so Madoka is safe for now.

You haven't been noticed yet so you relax a little and take another look at the girls in the circle with Madoka, taking time to take in the details you skipped over before. The girl standing next to Madoka has short blue hair and blue eyes. You vaguely remember that she's one of Madoka's friends. Maybe. The girl standing across from them is blond and her hair is styled into ringlets. Her eyes match her hair. She also has a large chest for a girl her age. All three of them are wearing the same clothes, which you guess is some sort of uniform.

The blond girl takes some sort of yellow gemstone out of nowhere and tosses it in the air. When she catches it there's a blinding flash of light and the golden feeling bursts out of her, this time so strong that it almost overwhelms you. After a moment the feeling and the light die down to a manageable level and the blond girl's outfit has changed completely. It's more like some sort of costume now, rather than a uniform. She even has a little hat.

There's a much smaller burst of the golden feeling and suddenly there's a long gun, you think it's called a musket, in the blond girl's hands. She steps out of the glowing circle and fires at one of the fluffballs, killing it instantly. She then discards the musket, which dissolves into sparkles of light that disperse into the air, and summons two more. She begins to fight the creatures, summoning and discarding muskets as she goes. It only takes you a few seconds to see that besides the obvious fact that she's got magic she's also extremely skilled. She's treating the fight like a dance or performance rather than a life or death battle.

Something else catches your attention. Ever since you entered this place the evil feeling that lead you here has been omnipresent, pushing in on you from every direction, but now you've noticed that the feeling is stronger in a particular direction. Perhaps it has a source, like how the source of the golden feeling is the blond girl.

What do?

[] Help the blond girl to kill the monsters and protect Madoka.
-[] Try out your magic. What's your magic? Ooooooh teasing!
-[] Just beat them to death. ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH!!

[] The blond girl seems to have this under control.
-[] Just hang back and watch for now. Stalk your sister. Nice one Tatsuya.
-[] Go find the source of the evil feeling and destroy it. Screw this, I'mma go fight a boss!

Am I write good?

Making an entrance.
You crack your knuckles as you come to a decision. Heh, like there was really any choice. These things thought they could hurt Madoka and for that they're going to die. You grip the handrail of the balcony with one hand and leap over it. Rather than merely dropping down though, you keep hold of the handrail and plant your feet on the outside edge of the platform. You bend your knees, coiling up like a spring, before letting go of the handrail and launching yourself head first at the largest cluster of monsters.

You roll as you hit the ground to bleed off momentum. Before the creatures can even react to your sudden entrance you're attacking, disintegrating the things with a single punch or kick each. It doesn't even take you a full second to get rid of the group. With that done you pause to survey the battleground. The girls are staring at you now, even the blond one but she recovers quickly and returns to firing upon the beasts. More importantly the creatures know you're here now. A few of the ice cream cones closer to you begin to slowly float in your direction. You dash forward and destroy them before moving onto the next targets.

Between your ferocious assault and the blonde's pinpoint marksmanship you dismantle the horde in a matter of seconds. As you kill the last of them something happens. You feel the sick feeling lessen and the world seems to melt away, leaving you standing in the concrete building you were in before. You can sense the corruption moving away at high speeds. Seeing that the danger has passed you straighten up out of your fighting stance and face the girls, taking in their reactions. Madoka simply looks relieved, probably thankful to be out of that nightmare. The magical blonde is looking at you with what is likely cautions optimism. The blue-haired one though… You have no idea what expression she's making. She's staring at you with wide eyes as though she was afraid of you but she's also smiling. She looks like she'll break out into a full on grin any second now.

The blonde one speaks up. "Hello. My name is Mami Tomoe. I'd like to thank you for your aid against those familiars. And you are?"

[] Introduce yourself?
-[] Full name.
-[] Just Tatsuya.
-[] Don't give your name.

What do you do now?
[] Stick around.
-[] Act helpful. Make sure the girls are safe and uninjured.
-[] Act friendly. You think you remember how to smile. You just need to show your teeth, right?
-[] Act inquisitive. What was up with that place? What were those creatures? How can you use magic?
-[] Act honestly. Tell them you story, all of it.
-[] Act mysteriously. Answer any questions they may have for you but don't tell them too much just in case.
-[] Don't act at all.
-[] Write in

[] Leave.
-[] Get some distance but then follow them discretely.
-[] You should really get around to figuring out how your magic works.
-[] You can still feel the corruption of that labyrinth moving away. Hunt it down and try to destroy it.
-[] Just wander around the city. Maybe you'll find something interesting.
-[] You can sense another power nearby, like Mami's. Confront it.

Introductions
"Tatsuya." You introduce yourself calmly, keeping you facial expression neutral. You're not sure if you can trust this Mami yet. Everything thing you've learned over the years says that other humans can't be trusted but this is a different time. Humans are supposed to work together here. The rules of this time are different so you'll obey those rules for now and give Mami a chance but the moment you suspect betrayal you'll be back to doing things your way.

"Eh? Takkun?" Madoka snaps out of her daze when she hears your name and looks at you. You fight to keep from smiling and/or crying. She recognizes your name! She remembers you! However, it's obvious when she looks at you that she doesn't actually recognize you but that's a good thing, at least for now.

Mami still seems a little bit suspicious of you but at least she satisfied for now. She gives little nod in your direction. "Well Mister Tatsuya, thank you once again for your aid. I think we have several things to discuss but first I have to heal my friend."

Her friend? But both the girls are fine. If Madoka had been injured… You force that thought from your head and double check that Madoka and her blue-haired friend are uninjured. They are but that leaves the question of whom she was talking about. As you try and puzzle it out Mami walks over to Madoka and takes the white rat from her hands. "Thank you once again for rescuing Kyubey." She says. She kneels down and gently places the rat on the ground before looking up at you and the girls. "I'll admit I'm not the best at healing so this might take a bit depending on the damage. You may wish to take a seat."

Madoka makes a sound of amazement. "You can heal too? Is there anything you can't do?" She asks, making Mami giggle. Madoka and the blue-haired girl both kneel down next to Mami so they can get a good look. You, on the other hand, lean up against a near by wall, cross your arms and try your best to look uninterested. Inside your head though you can't help but wonder why Mami would be taking the time and energy to take care of the rat. The things are everywhere if you know how to look and it's not like they're useful for anything besides food. Maybe it's a, uh… Huh. You don't remember the word but you vaguely recall that people in this time would take care of small animals like they were family for some reason. She seems to have named it Kyubey or something so that must be it.

As you ponder you notice that the blue-haired one glancing at you and fidgeting nervously. Before you can decide what to think about that, if anything, your attention, and hers, is drawn back to Mami as her hands begin to glow with a soft-golden light. You can feel her power with you magical senses too. She holds her hands over Kyubey's body and his wounds begin to seal themselves before your eyes.

Less than a minute later Kyubey wounds are gone and the rat's eyes flutter open. "Thank you Mami! You're a lifesaver!" You manage to keep you jaw from dropping, somehow, but you're still glad that the girls attention is taken up by Kyubey so they can't see the shock on your face. You can't believe that the white rat talked! You thought that they were all just dumb animals that the Devil would sometimes use as eyes and ears but apparently not. It makes you kind of sick now that you think about it. You've done a lot of things to survive but you've never resorted to cannibalism, not even in your darkest moments. You have eaten the Devil's spies though and if they're smart enough to talk…

You shake your head to get rid of those thoughts. Now isn't the time for that. You turn your attention back to Madoka, where it belongs. Luckily it seems that you haven't missed much of her conversation with Mami. "-Madoka Kaname and this is Sayaka Miki." She finishes. At least now you know the blue-haired girl's name.

"Nice to meet you!" Sayaka says energetically. "So you're really a Magical Girl? And we can become Magical Girls too?"

Mami smiles at Sayaka's exuberance. "Yes to both your questions. I'm sure you have more but this isn't the most comfortable of places. Perhaps you'd like to come by my apartment to have this discussion over tea and cake?" Both Madoka and Sayaka accept Mami's invitation. Mami turns to look at you. "Of course, I still have some questions of my own for our mysterious Mister Tatsuya."

"Yes." Kyubey nods in agreement. "Tatsuya here is quite the anomaly. I have questions for him myself."

Mami smiles at you. "Well? Would you care to join us and share a little about yourself?"

[] Accept the invitation.
[] You don't see the problem with talking right here.
[] Suggest you talk somewhere else other then her home?
[] Decline and leave.
-[] Get some distance but then follow them discretely.
-[] You should really get around to figuring out how your magic works.
-[] Go hunting for that labyrinth. You cant sense it right now but maybe you can find it again.
-[] Just wander around the city. Maybe you'll find something interesting.

Sir, you are being stalked.
You shrug. "Sure, if you're willing to explain some things. I'm not sure I have the answers you're looking for though."

Mami nods and smiles at you. "Alright then." There's another flash of light and her clothes are back to the same uniform as before. Her power dims in you magic senses but you can still sense it. However it's faint enough that you'd likely lose track of it if she moved more then ten meters away. Annoying. Maybe there's some way for you to train your magic sense so that it's more sensitive and you could track magical signatures more easily? Something to think about later you suppose.

"My apartment is a rather far from here so we should get going. I hope you're all okay with a bit of walk." Mami says, addressing all three of you. She takes the lead, guiding your small group out of the concrete area and in to the streets of the city. Kyubey stays in her arms, occasionally looking back you with soulless eyes. Madoka and Sayaka walk beside her, making conversation. You pay attention at first but as it seems they aren't talking about anything important you tune them out, preferring to keep watch on your surroundings.

And for good reason. You feel like you're being watched, by what or who you can't tell though. Whatever's following your group is very stealthy and either doesn't give off a magic signature or is suppressing it somehow because you can't sense anything. In fact there's nothing to indicate you're being followed at all but your gut says that you are and you've learned to listen to your instincts. So you keep your guard up and try to decide what to do about your tail.

Before can make up your mind though, Mami turns around to look at you. "Aren't you going to transform back, Mister Tatsuya?" She asks you. It's a good question. You don't know how to do that. In fact you're pretty sure you can't. You don't have a problem staying this powerful permanently but Mami might see it as a sign of hostility or distrust.

What do?
[] Just say no.
[] Try to transform back.
[] Suggest that you might get back to Mami's home faster if she transformed and the two of you carried Madoka and Sayaka over the rooftops.
[] Deflect the issue and tell her that you're being followed.
[] Something else? (Write in)

Cake and explinations
"Maybe later." You say, brushing aside Mami's request that you transform back. "Right now we're being followed."

Madoka and Sayaka stiffen at your announcement while Mami just frowns. "Are you sure?" She asks. "I can't sense any other Magical Girls and I've never heard of a Witch following someone. Usually they make victims come to them."

What in the world is Witch? Yet another question for later. "It's possible that whoever's following in us doesn't have magic."

Mami's cheeks turn red. "Right, of course. It's also possible they might be hiding their magic if it is a magical girl."

"W-what are we going to do?" Madoka asks, clearly anxious.

"Mami, your strength is enhanced while transformed, correct?" You don't actually know if this is true at all but it seems like a safe guess.

"Yes." Mami nods. "You have an idea?"

"You and I will carry Madoka and Sayaka across the rooftops to your home. If the follower is a mundane then they won't be able to follow. If they do have magic then they will have to reveal themselves to keep up." You explain.

"I don't know-" Mami starts to protest but is cut off by Sayaka.

"That's a great idea! I like this plan and I'm excited to be a part of it! Right Madoka?" Sayaka says with a smile.

Madoka's more hesitant. "Well… If Miss Tomoe thinks it's a good idea I guess?"

Mami thinks about it for a moment. "I suppose we can try it. Just be sure not to drop anyone." She tells you.

"Good." You walk over to Madoka and pick her up. She makes a small "eep" sound when you do so. "Transform and meet me on the roof." You say before making the leap to the top of the nearest building, surprising Madoka and eliciting a scream. There's a flash of light in the street and seconds later Mami is standing beside you with Sayaka in her arms. Sayaka seems slightly unhappy for some reason.

You begin leaping from roof to roof, following Mami's lead. Madoka holds onto you tightly in the beginning, burying her face in your chest but eventually she opens her eyes and looks around. A look of wonder graces her face as the wind makes her hair dance and play and you find yourself smiling. You make good progress but you note that you, or rather Mami as she's the one setting the pace, aren't traveling at the speeds you know you're capable of. Either Mami doesn't want to make Madoka and Sayaka uncomfortable by going to fast or she's simply slower than you.

Eventually you land on a roof and Mami doesn't immediately jump to the next. Instead she declares you've reached your destination and sets Sayaka on her feet. You can't sense any magic besides Mami's and your instincts are no longer telling you that someone's watching you so you follow suit, gently lowering Madoka so she can stand on the roof on her own. Mami changes back to her mundane state and guides your group down a stairwell. As you walk the two non-magical girls of the group try and straighten out their hair, with Sayaka complaining that Mami's hair is still perfect and that magic is bullshit. You pull a lock of your own hair down in front of your eyes and examine it. Hair can't be that important, right? I mean, its just hair.

When you reach the door to Mami's apartment she unlocks the door and invites the three you inside. It's about this time that you realize that you really have no idea what you're doing. So while Madoka and Sayaka settle in at the small table in the center room, make small talk and generally act like normal people capable of social activity you lean up against one of Mami's wall and feel increasingly awkward. It's a novel experience. You don't think you've ever had the opportunity to feel awkward before. One of the requirements is other people.

"Mister Tatsuya? Aren't you going to sit down?" Mami asks you.

Guess you have no choice now. "Right" You grunt and push yourself off of your leaning wall. You miss it already. You were safe there.

You sit down at the table and Mami hands you some cake. "Thanks." Despite the mystifying situation you've found yourself in you still know some things and one of those things is that when some you gives you free food, you eat it. Well, actually no one's ever given you food before, at least not since you left the Devil's false world, but still. You use the metal implement like the others are doing to break off a piece of cake and put it in your mouth.

You can't begin to describe what you taste. You wouldn't know where to start. Words fail you. This cake is the best tasting food ever. Of all time. You never even imagined that something could taste so good. You set the metal thing down so you don't drop it as the sweetness overwhelms you.

"Mister Tatsuya? Is there something wrong with you cake?" Mami asks, pulling you out of your taste trance. She looks concerned.

You shake your head. "No. It's perfect. I'm just unused to sweets is all."

Mami smiles at that and puts down her own metal thing. She's finished her cake and so are the others. She shifts her posture slightly and she seems more… in charge you guess you'd call it. "Well, I think it's time we get down to business." She says before beginning her explanation.

Apparently the false world you where you found Madoka and the others is called a Barrier and the creatures within are called Familiars. Barriers and Familiars are created by Witches, creatures that survive on the negative emotions of humanity. Their presence causes increases in things like suicides or violent crime. Witches are hunted by Magical Girls, girls that have made a contract with Kyubey. In exchange for one wish for anything they want they are granted magical powers so that they can hunt and kill Witches. A Soul Gem, the yellow jewel that Mami uses to transform, is created during the wish and supposedly represents that contract. That's the basics of it.

When Mami finishes her explanation Kyubey speaks up, surprising you. You'd forgotten that he was there. "That's why I called out to you." He tells Madoka and Sayaka. "I want you to enter into a contract with me and become magical girls!"

"Wow. So we can wish for anything we want? What if I wanted all the money in the world? Oh, or eternal youth? What about world peace?" Sayaka asks. She closes her eyes and you guess she's imagining all the things she could wish for.

"Yes you could." Mami answers. "However, you should take the time to think about your wish. It's very important that whatever you wish for, it's something you truly want from the bottom of your heart. After all you only get one so you don't want to waste it."

Both Sayaka and Madoka nod solemnly. No one talks for a moment but then Madoka looks up from the table and at you." Oh, but what about you Mister Tatsuya?"

"Yes." Kyubey says. "I don't recall ever making a contract with you and you're magic, while similar to that of a Magical Girl's, isn't typical."

You don't answer right away. Instead you think of exactly what you should and shouldn't be telling these girls.

[] Tell them…
-[] That you're from the future.
-[] That your Madoka's brother.
-[] That you made a deal for power.
-[] That you're hunting the Devil.
-[] That you can't remember.
-[] Something else? (Write in)

Feel free to pick multiple options.

This is completely unrelated but does anyone know if Homura can be a boy's name as well as a girl's?

Backstory!
You stay quiet for several minutes as you get your story straight. When you do you sigh explosively and open your eyes. You look each of the girls directly in the eyes to make sure they know that you're serious. "I'm from the future." You say simply.

The girls all react in different ways. Madoka stares at you, trying to say something but stumbling over her own words. Sayaka's eyes widen, as does her smile. She obviously excited, even bouncing in her seat. Mami reacts the least, showing slight amounts of shock and disbelief before returning to calmness as she sips at her tea.

"The world that I lived in was falling apart." You begin to explain in earnest. "The stars had disappeared, the sky burned and the ground gave way beneath your feet. The laws of physics were breaking apart without any hope of repair. Any humans left alive struggled to survive, fighting and killing each other for food and water. The world had turned to hell and the Devil was the one to make it happen."

"No one knew who the Devil was or where she came from. Her power was absolute, able to change the universe itself to get what she wanted. She created a perfect little world to live in but during the creation of that fantasy world she broke the rest of the universe. She didn't care. So long as her little dream was undisturbed the rest of us could burn for all she cared. Her guardians would slaughter anyone who dared even get close to her false world. Her spies would find anyone who tried to plot against her. There was nothing we could do but try to survive."

"As for myself, I suppose I'm similar to a Magical Girl. I also made a deal: I get magical powers and then I use to powers destroy the Devil. I was sent back in time so I could find her before she becomes too powerful to stop." You finish your story and gauge the reactions of the girls. Madoka is looking down at the floor and biting her lip. She occasionally steals glances at you but quickly looks away again. You hope you haven't frightened her. Sayaka's enthusiasm has died down, but it isn't completely gone. She's hugging her legs to her chest and is looking at you with… sadness mostly but a lot of other emotions as well.

Mami seems to have taken it the best but that's because she doesn't seem to believe you. Or at least she's remaining cautious of you. She sets down her empty teacup and begins to ask you questions. "You said you made a deal for your magic but it wasn't with Kyubey. Whom did you make that deal with?"

"I can't tell you that." Because I don't remember all that much myself. "Sorry."

Mami frowns at your answer. "Fine then. Why were you in the barrier if not to hunt the Witch?"

"I was searching for the Devil. The barrier felt evil so I thought it might be a good place to look. When I saw you I decided to help out."

"Right." Mami nods. She doesn't ask any more questions and seems to be thinking about what you've said.

You take the silence as an opportunity to ask a question yourself. "Kyubey. You said that my magic was different from Mami's. How is it different?"

"I can only see the technical differences and human language doesn't have the words to properly describe the magical meta-physics involved." Kyubey says. You still can't get over how different he is from the white rats you're used to. For one thing he actually blinks. "Because I wasn't the one to make your contract I don't actually know what the practical differences are. If you want to learn more about your magic my advice is the same as the advice I give to every Magical Girl: your magic is unique to you. If you want to learn more you should experiment."

"Right…" you trail off. Well now what?

[] Anything else you want to talk about? (write in)

[] Time to leave.
-[] Escort one of the girls home.
--[] Madoka
--[] Sayaka
-[] Follow on of the girls home discreetly.
--[] Madoka
--[] Sayaka
-[] Take Kyubey's advice and go experiment with you're magic.
-[] Hunt a Witch.
-[] Wander town randomly.
-[] Something else (write in)

I hope you weren't expecting Kyubey to actually be helpful.:p

I'm really not sure how good this update is. It definitely isn't some of my better work. If it's sucks let me know and I'll improve it somehow.
