Okay, looks like I'm not actually gonna have time to write much today anyway, so I'll just leave votes open until tomorrow.

Changed the daily contact expectation to regularly. Daily is too much.

[X] "I can't really blame you for feeling that way. You can't help anyone if you're dead."
-[X] "I made my wish knowing I'd be risking my life, and knowing that the person before me had failed and been killed for it. I came into this conflict with a goal, and to reach it I wished for power. So I wouldn't be too weak to do what I needed to do. So I wouldn't just end up dead like Kisaragi Momoko did."
-[X] "I want to talk to you in private with my 'mysterious ally' in a bit. If you still want to leave after hearing me out, that's okay. Just remember you're always welcome in Nagamioka."
-[X] "Er... just let me deal with everything else first."

[X] Explain what your expectations are to Rio, Fuuka, and Kiyomi.
-[X] They need to meet with you regularly, both to exchange news and so that you get to know them better. Converse via telepathy (or phone, if they like phones) regularly and in-person meetings at least twice a week. Make sure to bring up any disputes, problems, or concerns they're having when you talk to them, and you'll deal with it. You will make an effort to introduce them to everyone else who lives around here during said meetings.
-[X] Two magical girls that I'm aware of hold territory in greater Nagamioka. Their names are Chou and Koharu, be nice to them. Chou is... touchy. They're free to go and hunt anywhere aside from that, but after they've settled on a place to live should let you know where it is and meet with you to discuss witch distribution and patrol routes so that you can optimize across the city. Those are likely to gradually change as you get more girls.
-[X] If anyone allied with you needs help, help them out. This includes both witch hunts and if they're attacked or something, or if they have a personal problem and need someone to cover for them, whatever. They can expect other girls to provide them with this same kind of assistance, within reason. Long-term arrangements for hunting partners, living together, sustained lies to parents, etc. will need to be arranged on a case by case basis. Grief seed shortages/requests on anyone's part need to be brought to your attention.
-[X] If they locate new-contracted girls or solo immigrants, be friendly if possible and bring them to your attention. Your current group policy is to recruit everyone who contracts within the Nagamioka area and any incoming girls who haven't completely lost it with a mix of empathy, logic, and gradual social efforts. No strong-arming.
-[X] If they run into incoming groups, you would like to be at the forefront of diplomacy but you'll trust their judgement as our representatives in carrying out your greater policies, within reason. Nagamioka is yours, but don't get killed over border skirmishes; you can always marshaleveryone and show up as a hammer later if they run away.
-[X] Most importantly, they are expected to support your overall goals of (1) protecting people, particularly people in Nagamioka and (2) being a good person, or at least not being mean. If at any point they are in doubt, act based upon those two qualities, and talk to you about it later.

[X] Help Maiko move the bodies. Oh god that's gross.
-[X] Figure out what to do about Kaede's dog. We can't just let it go wild, and we should probably do something more than just dropping it off at the local pound.

[X] Time to arrange a meeting for team Yui.
-[X] Asami might be busy, so talk to Minami and Maiko over at HQ
[X] Topics for discussion: Yumi, Naoko and Kaede, other junk

Thinking about it, Koharu also has a territory, technically. While later we might not have territories in the same way, we should probably mention it.

I still think meeting three times a week in person is a bit much. We've got to balance our school and social lives along with the other magical girls in the area and any other problems that show up. Plus when it comes to strategizing or information sharing, a lot of that can be done via brainmail. So I'd suggest a minimum of once per week, with them of course being welcome to hang out with you more often if they think you're awesome enough to do so.

I agree. Made the changes in my vote.

I don't think daily contact or thrice weekly meetings are too much. There are a few different angles to consider here.

Border security. If they get attacked or ambushed without contacting us, or hell, they just lose to a witch, we might not actually be aware of it for a couple days. Their first instinct if they get into trouble might not be to contact us, and that's assuming they even get a chance to do so.

By requiring daily contact, we get a better idea of how everybody is doing and what's going on. If something goes wrong, we'll be able to respond to it much quicker.

Furthermore, we don't actually know or trust these new girls. We need to meet with them fairly often to get a grip on their characters, and to work out things like patrol routes, acceptable conduct, whatever.

We can always tone down the frequency of the meetings once we have reason to trust them, and once everybody's comfortable with the situation. The regular meetings could help make that happen sooner.

And finally, neither the meetings, nor the daily check-ins have to be long and tedious. A daily 'good morning' could be enough to serve most purposes, although I actually think an afternoon time would be better, and we could have a half-hour long 'strategy meeting' with all of our allies to fulfill the thrice-weekly meetings. Time isn't a considerable factor.

In short: more meetings means more security, quicker integration, and doesn't have to cost us much time or effort.

I'm keeping the original vote.

Edit: I'll edit it to mention koharu's territory though.

I would consider this reasonable if Nagamioka was a military installation and we were running a militarized force. But um... we're not.

We're fighting monsters daily, we're expecting further invasion from teams of girls with unknown magical abilities, and we're all pretty much living weapons, even when we're at ease.

I mean, we're about to discuss things like 'patrol routes' and give a small speech to yumi about how we're putting our lives on the line.

Edit: with slightly different circumstances, it could be their arms blown off in that previous conflict. I made the soldier analogy previously for a reason. Conflict is a huge part of our lives.

But they're still teenage girls at the core. Not military. Even if they're capable of fighting, I don't want to treat them too much like soldiers. Therefore I feel the vote you're sticking to is too imbalanced in that regard. We were intending to inform these girls of Nagamioka's situation to begin with and they're more then welcome to bring up concerns then.

I think they're like the citizen-soldiers of most ancient Greek city-states. In other words, they mostly live their regular lives, and only band together as soldiers during times of trouble and invasion.

They're certainly not say, Spartans.

I really disagree with anything less than daily check-ins. It takes virtually no effort to contact us by telepathy from most of the city, and we're not demanding detailed discussions; we mostly just need to confirm that they're still alive and nothing is on fire. Five minutes of their time once a day is not a lot to ask. If they're eaten by a witch, I want to know about it within 24 hours. We're not demanding military-style tight command and control loops here, but conflict is a part of our lives, like it or not, and that needs to be acknowledged even if we don't let it dictate our lifestyles.

Arguing for less frequent in-person meetings is much more well grounded, in my opinion, from the "we don't want this to dominate everyone's lives" perspective. That said, I chose three times per week on the grounds that Yui wants to become friends with these people. Befriending people requires spending time with them- lots of time, in most cases. If we don't ensure that she does spend that kind of time with them, we'll end up as a remote "boss" figure, who they don't know or have genuine personal loyalty to but are forced to follow due to their deal.

These three girls have already betrayed an alliance once and caused a lot of death by doing so, and then turned around and taken a bribe to betray yet another leader. We cannot afford to have only a loose relationship with them. We must establish genuine emotional closeness and personal loyalty, and we must do so as quickly as reasonably possible. Three meetings a week accomplishes that- it's frequent enough that it won't seem unusual if Yui runs out of serious matters to discuss quickly and starts dragging them off to eat ice cream or sing karaoke or whatever and basically arranges matters so that they turn around a month from now and realize that she's their good friend.

If you do not believe that becoming friends with them is a priority, or if you think there's an easier/more effective way to go about it, please explain. Otherwise I think three in-person meetings a week is much more appropriate to our goals.

I'd love to be able to treat them as normal girls and friends, but we are in times of trouble and invasion.

I was going to say more, but Darklight posted it for me.

A daily check-in isn't even five minutes.

Yui: Okay, daily check-in. Everybody still alive?
Everybody: Yep. Yes. Doing fine. Still alive! Yes.
Yui: Cool. Keep up the good work.

I can see the point, but I'd still rather it not be mandatory. Frequent, yes. Fine. Daily... I can see where that can get very irritating.

Good points. Still feel 3 mandatory meetings is too much though. However I do feel two a week is a good compromise. Yui wouldn't be too overbearing or distant and the ice cream thing can still happen.

edit: made the adjustment to twice a week.

Well, like I said, it's something we can adjust. If daily becomes irritating, we'll notice and can tone it back.

Same with three meetings. If it's irritating or takes up time, we can reduce it to two.

It's easier to reduce a high tax than to raise a lower one. Wait, I'm making analogies again, I TAKE IT BACK.

Anyways if you want to craft a middle vote, I could back it, but I still think starting out high is best.

Let's combine the social with Witch hunts. Join up, meet, talk about current issues, then potentially either go as a group or split into groups to hunt Witches after a planning session. Potentially have ice cream and or games in some circumstances on the weekend.

Edit: To explain what I mean a bit better, there's a number of issues at play here, as discussed above:

1. Checking that everyone is alright, some of which can be done telepathically, some which can be done in person.
2. Strategy meetings - best to do in person, except for quick tactical planning.
2a. Witch hunts. We've got a bunch of very experienced magical girls, but if we don't want anyone dying, we really need to outgun the Witches by a lot. Which means we're probably going to need to group up a lot, and appoint team leaders. And also develop a way of assessing whether a group can actually take on a Witch.
3. Social. We want them to be personally loyal, and actually like each other. Also lends a bit of normality some of the girls will sorely need. This is the trickiest, I think, and that's why I was thinking of occasional informal meetings (in addition to the weekly tactical meeting).

Sure. Not a bad idea. But that's an idea we'd bring up when we actually meet, not necessary for this vote.
