[X] Talk to Sai...
-[X] She had said that the Assassin turned magical girls into witches, and after what we saw earlier it's not hard to guess exactly how she'd done it. But she also implied that wasn't what happened with Yukina. So, how did Yukina die?

Meeting Sai's gaze, she raised her eyebrows once you walked up to her. Your footsteps echoed in the room while even Reika raised her head to glance at you both from her corner. You looked into Sai's eyes as she frowned and stared right back.

"What is it?" She asked in confusion.

"I wanted to ask you. You said that Assassin turned Magical girls into Witches, and after what I saw earlier it's not really hard to guess exactly how she's done it," you replied as you took off the cuffs from your wrist and tossed them to the table.

"I did mention that. Yes, last night," Sai answered with an even more confused tone.

"But you also implied that wasn't what happened to Yukina," you told her as her eyes widened. You continued as you pressed her, "So, how did Yukina die?"

Sai hesitated being confronted like this as she leaned back on the wall. She grimaced as she tried to consider her words before glancing at the other person in the room. Sai swallowed hard as Reika was giving her a glare that spelled murder.

Closing her eyes, Sai held up her hands in response, "Right. I should know."

"You should. You know a lot of things, Aoyama," Reika hissed from the side.

Clicking her tongue, Sai brought down her hands and sighed, "Right. It was a year ago tops. Yuri wasn't even a magical girl then. After the party to celebrate Yukina's ascension to being a Captain here at Central, she was murdered."

"I see. And we all know who did it," you said as you frowned, "But how did you find her?"

"Mika knows as well. But aside from that, we found her at Inari Shrine. Within the red gates," Sai answered with a grim tone as she recalled the time, "She was just lying there in a pool of her own blood. Her body was cut open and her head severed but not cast aside. But instead it was placed back on her neck."

You felt for your throat and touched the scar that lined up your flesh. You frowned as you slowly ran your hand on where the scar in your torso ran down to your stomach. It was the same modus but at the same time.

"It wasn't the first murder either. There were other magical girls that were killed at the time. Yukina was trying to figure out what was happening too but she got killed in the end," Sai recalled as she held her shoulder. She bit her lip as she let out a shaky breath, "There was no signs of fighting. No battle or signs of anyone but her being there. She died looking dignified unlike the gruesome murders of the other girls. Almost like the Assassin was delicate about it."

"Delicate..?" You frowned as you stepped back.

"Yes. It was the only thing I can describe your body then. Almost like Yukina allowed herself to be killed," Sai murmured with a grim tone.

Reika got up and slammed her fist against the wall, "She would never do that! She was never the sort to do that!"

"As much as I'd hate to entertain it, it was how I saw it!" Sai snarled right back but kept her hands to herself.

Reika's eyes flashed as she was just about to throw herself at the older girl but you stopped her, "She wasn't the type to leave everything behind back then! She was full of life, she was loved, and admired! You saying that, you her fucking mentor is almost like you're spitting at everything she stood for!"

"Then what do you think happened, you idiot?! Yukina was the strongest girl I knew, she was I invincible! She wouldn't lose to anyone and especially not that serial killer but what do you want me to think?! I never stopped looking, I never stopped searching while you and your band of monkeys wasted away!" Sai roared as she walked to Reika.

You kept them both at bay, grabbing their shoulders to keep them apart as they yelled at each other. You grimaced as they didn't even stop with you between them.

"We were moving on! Moving past it all! We respected her enough to continue what she started! It's you and Yuri who can't let go and now you just fucked it all up for me! For us! And you even brought this thing to life! It's downright insulting to her memory!" Reika screamed as she tried to scratch Sai's eyes out.

"And you left Yuri with nothing! When Yukina would had wanted nothing more than you, her goddamned disciple, to take care of her sister! Where were you when Yuri needed you?! Nowhere! Don't you dare think you're better than me," Sai hissed right back with a tone of pure venom. She tried to punch Reika but you held her back.

You finally lost your patience and shoved them both away from one another. Reika hit the wall and sank down while Sai stumbled over her feet and hit the ground. The two of them stared at you as you gave them both the coldest look of disdain you could muster right at that moment.

Something boiled inside you as you walked back to the door and crossed your arms. Leaning on it, you began to think while Reika and Sai stared each other down. A gear the size of a tractor's wheel got between them both. This formed a wall that kept them from looking at one another.

"The murder was done there. Delicately too and quite different from the previous cases," you said as you rubbed your chin, "Sai, did anyone know where Yukina was during that time?"

"No one did," Sai replied as she caught her breath.

"So how did you find her?" You asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yuri had a tracking application installed in her sister's phone. We managed to use that as last resort since she wouldn't answer our calls," Sai said as she crossed her arms, "It was night time then. Yukina hadn't come home and Yuri was getting worried."

"Reika, were the Assassin's activities at the time high?" You asked as you glanced at the other girl in the room.

"It should have been. There were two strings of murder within the general area. Yukina back then... She mostly investigated on places where the murders happened, to increase the probability of being targeted herself," Reika replied as she looked down the ground.

"She was asking for it. As you said she wasn't the type to just lie down and take it. There's something more here," you pointed out as you glanced at the two girls.

"And that is?" Sai frowned.

"Yukina had a connection with the Assassin. A special connection. It would explain the deviation from the Assassin's normal modus while also confirming Yukina's possible decision," you replied in a cool and patient tone. You raised your head and said, "I need to confirm this but judging from this theory, we can start taking suspects now."

"Put Reika on top of that list," Sai grumbled as she shook her head.

"I'll cut you," Reika snapped from the side.

You ignored them. The Assassin didn't kill Yukina using the nightmare trick. There was no fight so Yukina must have given herself willingly. But why? Whoever the Assassin is, she had enough of a relation with Yukina for the magical girl to give her life.

Despite being loved, despite being admired, and despite being happy.

"One more thing. The gem. It wasn't there, right?" You asked as you rubbed your chin.

Reika and Sai stared at you then.

Sai nodded with a frown, "Yes. We didn't find any sign of it."

"And no Witch has taken on anything related to Yukina? Thus disproving that she was turned into a Witch?" You asked once more.

"We don't know. But there's probably someone in the organization that keeps records," Sai answered again as she studied your face, "Why?"

"There's no evidence that Yukina turned into a Witch if we looked at this from the Killer's normal pattern," you said as you crossed your arms. You the met their gazes and continued, "But if what our theory suggests is true, then the relation between Yukina and the Assassin... There's the chance that the missing gem is being maintained."

"But that's impossible. A gem taken from a body of a magical girl would darken fast. You will need Grief Seeds by the dozen to-" Reika argued before she stopped.

Sai's eyes widened as you held up your hand.

"The Killer creates witches from powerful Magical girls. Most likely to retrieve their seeds in order to maintain a disembodied Gem," You said as you sighed.

Sai shook her head, "That's... You can't prove that."

"Well I just have to. Yukina might be out there, alive but just without a body," you said as you stared down the two girls.

.....
....
...

You didn't expect much of anything when you were led through the halls. You just put one foot ahead of the other as you were led to a room. You passed by a garden of rocks and soil before you looked up ahead. It was the ground floor of the mansion and you stepped out of the main house to approach a smaller building.

You came up on a sliding door before it opened. You were greeted by the sight of several magical girls sitting on top of comfortable looking pillows. They all turned to look at you and gasped. Some raised their eyebrows while others couldn't hide their disgust.

But your attention wasn't on them. It was on the girl lying within a white futon dressed in just her pajamas. Some girls here were in their magical girl forms while others were in their civilian attire. You walked forward as your eyes never left the girl on the far end.

She had a long dark and silky hair as her dark eyes seemed to twinkle from the light within the room. She was young from what you could observe. Probably 14-15, just shy of Yuri's age. But what was interesting was that she didn't have a left arm.

Her sleeve hung loose as she smiled your way.

"The GriefBorne is brought before us," one of the girls spoke while eyeing you closely, "Yuri succeeded then."

"I still fail to see the necessity for keeping it alive," a short haired girl with glasses said. She turned to the girl in the futon, "Miss, if you would allow us-"

"We're here to simply question her. Nothing more," the frail looking girl said as she raised her hand, "Forgive me, Miss Isobe but I understand your apprehension. But that would come later."

You tilted your head as you glanced at the girl that just spoke out. Turning your gaze back at the girl up ahead she nodded your way.

"I am Kaguya Fujiwara. I am the one who holds the reins to the Kyoto Magical Girl alliance... Right now, we want to ask you what exactly happened in that burning building. We were hoping you can enlighten us," Kaguya smiled at you as she glanced at her fellow magical girls. She then continued, "We're joined by many independent veterans today, and while they may not be a part of our organization as a whole, their insights would help me decide."

"Decide on what exactly?" You asked.

Kaguya gave you a measured look and said, "The fates of Yuri Uchida, Reika Minami and Sai Aoyama. Depending on how you answer in regards to their conduct would decide their punishment."

"But why? I understand Reika and Yuri but why Sai too?" You questioned with a frown.

"Because of her, we're on hot water with the Tokyo types," A girl snapped from the side. She pointed at you, "It's because you're here that she made that stupid promise with the Boss."

"The fault lies on me as well as Sai. There will be consequences for me too," Kaguya patiently said as she closed her eyes. When she opened them, she was looking straight at you, "I never anticipated that so much damage could be done at the time."

Kaguya managed a small giggle at that while the other girls simply fidgeted in discomfort. As if that their esteemed leader didn't care about sanctions she would be incurring herself.

It seemed that executives weren't exempt then. The property damage must have been difficult to cover up, enough that the leader took a hit too. You should be careful next time. Still, Kaguya didn't seem to care.

She raised her hand and opened her palm to you, "Go on, Yukina. Speak."

I literally thought of this the moment the details of Yukina's actual 'murder' were given, and for a moment I thought I'd get to be super clever and figure out the mystery through a write-in ... but yeah, this is actually super obvious, and it's only because all the MGs are dysfunctional moronic wrecks that nobody figured it out already.

In any case, I don't see what we could gain from obscuring the truth, and don't want to find out if they have a lie detector, so let's just tell everything and coast by on then power of apathy and holding everyone present in total contempt.

Uh. Hmm. I mean I kinda figured but, well, hope she doesn't want her body anymore. No takesy-backesy.

Also Yukina's stuck in the middle of the old Yukina's teacher and student. No wonder they're acting like morons.

As for this vote... Well, the truth is everyone involved was behaving very, very badly. And I don't see what lies we even could tell that would make them sound better that also couldn't be checked really easily.

Still, no reason the throw Yuri to the wolves by providing them with Reika's suspicions of the Tokyo girls helping her with Yukina's creation. On the other hand, if it comes up that the Tokyo girls did help Yuri, then that makes the pressure they're putting on the Boss rather hollow. Of course it would also accelerate hostilities and greatly increase the odds of war. Hard to say what's the best choice here.

I'm switching on this one, as long as we don't lie directly I'm don't think that should be too much trouble. I'd rather just omit, and if pressed, admit.

Yeah, same reason here. Omit some facts and hope they don't ask thoroughly enough.

The floor was no open to you. You didn't know how to feel about that but you felt that you should take it seriously. All eyes were on you, cruel eyes, curious eyes and pitiful eyes stared at you all at once. They knew who you were in life and were no doubt surprised to share the place as you did. But you were not the person they knew.

Everyone here knew that much. Therefore you could only be yourself. You needed to think fast and make the best of the situation before you. If the words that came from your mouth would decide the lives of others then you would do well not to mess up. You can only pray that you didn't.

You looked at the girl at the far end of this meeting room and focused solely on her. And so you watched her smile your way, urging you to speak before you finally found your voice.

"I was in the middle of investigating the deaths of two members belonging to Reika's faction. At which I was attacked by a few others under the assumption I had something to do with it," you began as you straightened your back. Eyes forward, you spoke firmly, "From them I learned of Yuri's kidnapping and illegal detention. I sought to free her with Miss Sai accompanying me to the building."

"Go on. What happened then?" Kaguya asked you as she observed your face.

"A series of altercation leading to the collateral damage which caused the fire. Magical girls from Reika's group tried to stop me but I disabled them without harming their lives," you continued in a calm voice.

"A GriefBorne exercising restraint. That's the first I've heard that bull," a girl scoffed.

Ayana perked up from the side and smirked, "Well, would you really expect anything less from her even if she's in that state?"

Kaguya clicked her tongue and silenced the other girls. She then turned to you to continue.

"I interfered with Reika's detention of Yuri. She was most likely to interrogate Yuri on the circumstances of my creation," You explained as you met Kaguya's gaze, "We clashed. Soon after the Assassin was drawn to our battle and dueled us. We did our best to fend her off before making our escape. That is all."

The magical girls around you began to buzz with life. Speaking with one another as you noticed that they were comparing your story from Yuri's testimony, no doubt taken before your arrival here. You simply let them talk as a few girls kept their eyes on you.

A few veterans and the three Captains of the various magical girl groups. Kaguya too kept a close eye on you before she raised her hand.

"What do you make of this, Shinjo? Does it match what Miss Uchida reported before?" Kaguya asked as she raised an eyebrow.

"It matches. Though there are some discrepancies but it matches," the bespectacled girl nodded.

An older looking girl raised her hand and said, "Well that may be so but I can't shake the feeling that the GriefBorne hasn't told us the whole story."

"Had you asked I would have done so. But would that truly make a difference?" You offered as you tilted your head, "It would be the same tale, with only more dramatic flourishes and confusing descriptions."

"That's not the point, Corpse," the older girl snarled as she looked your way, "You gave a summary, not a comprehensive report."

"I decided to deliver the information needed from me in the easiest way manageable," you replied with a emotionless tone. You stared at her with a slight look of disdain, "I can write you an essay should you wish, but that is not up to me to decide and neither your own. Should the Leader decide so, I will grant it."

"If we compare Yukina's story alongside Yuri's, they match. But what exactly are you trying to find if you found this report unsatisfactory, Sanada?" Kaguya deigned to ask with a sharp look.

Ayana snickered while Chose and Ume shook their heads. The girl named Sanada winced at the Boss's full attention landing on her and looked embarassed.

"We simply want to know the truth, Leader," a girl from the bottom of the room said, "We cannot easily trust the words of a GriefBorne and her creator for they could do easily be collaborating."

"Is that so?" Kaguya considered as she looked at you.

Did they really think that? Did their prejudice against you really run that deep? You were an unfeeling undead abomination but no doubt even this was unreasonable. Just what did other GriefBornes do for you to deserve this much disdain? You felt bad and the feeling certainly was unpleasant inside you.

Not only that but you could see them clearly. The negativity that filled the air, it had started as a thin veil but was now becoming a thick miasma. It dulled your senses and no doubt affected the lesser magical girls with the same negative emotions of their betters. They were getting soaked in it whether they knew or not but in the light of this... Kaguya simply watched how you reacted.

"Well then if that is the case, then I guess I can call it out then. Kyubey, if you would please," Kaguya clapped her hands just as Kyubey dropped down before you. It was in a trash bag.

The white creature's presence made the thin veil of grief in the air turn murky as muddy water. Anger flared from the many girls in the room before it got out and scratched its face. With the amount of negativity, you're surprised no one turned into a Witch yet. But still while this may be what you were seeing, to others the room simply grew colder.

"Dear me. To be used in this manner, that's no good, Kaguya," Kyubey said as it turned its beady red eyes to the girl in the futon.

"That may be so but we don't have time for the usual. I'm assuming you heard everything?" Kaguya asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Indeed I have. And I can ascertain as to why you brought me here," Kyubey said as it backed off to run to your lap and sit down on it.

You blinked and reached down to pet the furry creature.

"Boss. What is the meaning of this?" One of the girls growled, "Why is this white filth here?"

"His insight will help us in understanding the situation better," Kaguya said as she cracked a smile.

"His insight? He's devious and manipulative, you mean to have us trust his word?" Another girl huffed with a scandalized look.

You scratched Kyubey under its chin as it replied, "Well, it was never my intention to be what you accuse me of. Information is ready for you to receive, however it's simply you girls that take it badly after receiving an answer you did not wa-"

You cut Kyubey off before it could provoke a fight. You started scratching its ears and petting it more intensely to silence it. Kyubey did not show any reaction other than complete silence as you pet its head.

"If I cannot trust the word of a person, I would trust Kyubey. After all if you believe Yukina to be lying then the solution is to ask something that cannot lie," Kaguya offered her fellow magical girls. She spread her arms before looking down at Kyubey, "It's either Kyubey or Yukina's word. The truth after all, as repulsive and underhanded it may be, is something Kyubey can expertly wield. He's duped all of us after all."

The other magical girls were clearly not happy with this arrangement but found no words to counter. They didn't have a lie detector magical girl at hand so they could only trust Kyubey at the moment. Which could only mean that during the fights, Kyubey had been shadowing you.

And that could mean Kyubey ratting you out if it was asked the wrong thing.

"Then tell us, Kyubey," Kaguya began in her gentle tone, "Is what Yukina reported all true?"

"Indeed. Everything she has said was true. I had been observing her activities closely and they have not deviated from what was reported and what was confessed by Yuri Uchida," Kyubey confirmed as it curled up on your lap.

You frowned. There was something wrong.

"Would you say that there were no lies or discrepancies in her words to reality?" Kaguya asked further with a small smile.

"Nope. There are no falsehoods with what she had reported and what I have observed," Kyubey replied once more.

These two. They weren't addressing the important flaws of your report. Kaguya and Kyubey... The former was asking in a language that would prevent Kyubey from uttering anything outside of the question asked. Meanwhile Kyubey simply answered in accordance to the specified question requested from him.

And it didn't seem like the girls in the room took notice of it. No, Ayana and her fellow Captains did as they were observing Kaguya closely. But the rest, the other girls simply had their eyebrows raised and resigned themselves to accept.

It was a trick.

Kaguya was deliberately steering you off trouble. Deceit. The people in this room were getting fooled without them even knowing and you were only aware by virtue of omitting the full truth. A farce all to protect you, Yuri, Reika and Sai.

However...

A girl raised her hand then and asked, "If I may, Leader, ask a question of my own."

Kaguya turned to the girl before glancing at you. It seemed that the ball was taken from her, there was little she can do other than concede.

"Of course, ask away," Kaguya replied as Kyubey turned to the girl.

The girl then cleared her throat and asked, "Then Kyubey, can you tell us the details of what you observed?"

That was the wrong question. Key word is "Observed" which in turn would make Kyubey answer-

"Yukina fought through a total of twelve magical girls on her way up. She was grievously injured en route and was forced to use her magic which set aflame to the building. To which she ascended and dueled with Reika Minami to free Yuri Uchida. However in the ensuing battle, the Assassin joined and fought them at the same time. The Assassin was injured in the fight and deployed her ability that reduced Reika Minami to the state she was in. However both Yukina and Reika helped one another to escape the Assasin's ability. From thereon, Miss Ayana Hoshi can supplement the next few moments."

Kyubey swayed its tail while blinking it's beady red eyes. Kaguya had an amused smile curled upon her lips while Ayana looked to the side.

Clearing her throat, Ayana waved her hand to dismiss the pass, "I already told our my piece. I'm not repeating myself."

You scratched Kyubey's head as it snuggled up in your lap. You both stared at the girl who asked the question before she found your combined states unsettling.

"I... Thank you," the girl said in an embarassed tone.

Kaguya clapped her hands once and smiled, "Well then. I think we're all satisfied. Thank you Kyubey. We won't roast you tonight."

"I fail to see the logic in such an action when you could be expending your energy in something more worthwhile," Kyubey piped up as you pet it harder.

The other magical girls seemed to be in growing irate at its presence but otherwise saw no use for pursuing you. Ayana seemed happy with the developments while other veteran girls simply kept quiet. The younger ones in their own individual cliques were in deep discussion as Kaguya gathered their attention once more.

"We'll adjourn for an hour. After that we'll gather to decide Reika's fate. For now, please help yourselves to the food in the dining hall," Kaguya smiled as she looked around. She then turned to you, "As for you, please remain in your waiting room until we're finished with the proceedings. Thank you for your time."

.....
....
...

You were shoved into the room you were just in before as Reika and Sai glanced at you. Kyubey sat on your head which immediately caused Sai and Reika to hiss.

"Honestly, everywhere we go," Kyubey groaned as it swayed its tail.

"It must be because you smell," you suggested as you got in.

"I smell?" Kyubey asked.

Reika pressed her back against the wall, "What's it doing here?"

"How rude," that was all Kyubey managed to get out until you started scratching it behind the ear. Kyubey became quiet before you placed it on the table.

Reika stared at you aghast before asking, "What the flying fuck?"

"What happened?" Sai asked you in a concerned tone.

"My report would have decided your fates. I did my best," you told her in a quiet voice.

Sai managed a smile before patting your shoulder, "I knew you would, buddy."

"Kyubey isn't normally like this. He's normally really smug and shitty, why is he..?" Reika gasped as if she was watching a fish walk on land.

Kyubey ended up on his belly to which you started patting gently. Reika looked like she was internally screaming.
