Project Knight [Mecha Design Bureau]

There's a lot of inefficiency in the materials and your designers still aren't great at this. Gen 1 Mecha are pretty likely to be over-tonned.

Shoot this changes the equations a lot. Enlarged is out of the equation and powerful actuators are much more heavily weighted. Hmm

[x] [Body Size] Balanced Hull
[x] [Body Style] Ergonomic Hull
[x] [Limb Style] Crouched Medial Legs
[x] [Actuators] Powerful Actuator Design

Swiched to balanced hull. Lost the component production bonus, but also lost the tonnage penalty. Snub nose and compact still had to much disadvantage to them

Yhea that would be cool, but that's way beyond the starter Mecha we're trying to build in functionality. To achieve it we're going to need to build a more expensive copy of some conventional artillery, that no one will buy. We also need tech up before building such a replacement becomes feasible.

(Not that the idea you're proposing is not super cool and I would not mind winning, I just don't think it will sell well to our potential customers yet. Nor be a good testbed for future Mecha development).

(Centaur bot is also something I'm aiming for. Preferably with hichable trailer/chariot and mounting for a humanoid Mecha to ride.)
Eh, they've had autoloading dual-purpose (anti-ground/anti-air) 5-inchers since the 1970s - it or rough equivalent is already conventional artillery, has been for decades now. It may not be the most newfangled, but it and the guns like it will absolutely have a solid rep to help it sell. Heck, depending on how far in the future this is, that kind of gun might already be 2nd or 3rd line, and thus a standard for many of our customers.

As for test bedding, four legs is four legs. as long as we don't cock it up, quite a bit of it will be transferable skills even w/o research.

Charioteer-Centaur Mecha is absolutely an idea I could get behind.

Just to make sure everyone is aware, 55t was the lowest end of the range, and the initial rolls have put the prototype you're working on at ~71, near the highest end of the range for the small chassis. It's currently fairly chunky:
Noted. Thanks much.

Have you considered high explosive squash head, with laser guidance?
Ehhhhhhh...maybe. Let's see what our outer layer defense options look like.

Guys, I want to point out that we can not get more dakka because we have a small frame and only four limbs. So we are really limited here by frame size.
We have a chassis whose defining characteristics is [+] Heavy Weapons Options, and we can jack our Skeletal Stability sky-high with certain options, on a currently estimated 70-ish ton chassis.

We can do some pretty damn decent dakka.

It's, a fairly low cost gun mecha.
I am sure we can mount some kind of fairly big gun on it when we need too.

Think something like walking tank / cannon thing

I'm here to come as close as possible to an apocalyptic nation-shattering kill bot as tech and skill allows. I only tolerate the mission restrictions because we're fresh-faced newbies, and humility demands some parameters.
You might want to employ some restraint. Making something apocalyptic makes pretty much everything pointless including why we are here and our ability to function.

(Centaur bot is also something I'm aiming for. Preferably with hichable trailer/chariot and mounting for a humanoid Mecha to ride.)
Personally I am trying to go for something like Vilanox because it really is a cool design. Apart from that bizarre body plans in general as I find humanoid designs to be overrated. Yes let's make a lightning wheel and call it the storm eye.

Now back to current reality I think many people are overlooking the importance of protecting our limbs? Why Powerful Actuators instead of Durable Actuators?

Balanced Hull, Gunboat Hull, Crouched Medial Legs, Powerful Actuators are in the lead.

Reinforced* Hull Style and Durable Actuators are close enough to climb on top with a small shift in the votes, though. This vote's been a little chaotic! (I think in the future I'll be more patient and just split body and limbs into different votes!)

Don't you mean Reinforced Hull style not Gunboat Hull Style?

On a different note I do think more people should go for Heavy Dorsal Legs. We don't loose much for choosing those.

I also suggest going with the Ergonomic Hull to go with the skeleton or the Reinforced Hull for the extra protection.

You don't need skates for that. The mech dragging its belly across the forest floor can give that impression. Hmmm Crawler could work, it is simple and descriptive.
I'm really feeling armadillo at this point as animal names are a classic for AFVs and I think this walker is gonna have the same waddle walk as an armadillo while having a similar body plan.
Edit also an armadillo inspired armor scheme would make mobility killing this thing a nightmare and a half.
