Powers Quest (Original/The Gamer) [Sort-of Hiatus]

[X] Actually, I have a different idea...
-[X] "Ask around, but also try to spread some false rumors or something. Much as I want to know, I don't want others to know the specifics of my... whatever, y'know?"

Sounds good.

This may lead to false information for us as well, though. We may be shooting ourselves in the foot with a war of misinformation like that.

Nah. I imagine it'd go like "So about that guy with dancing powers." *Witch nods, while deciding to forget everything useless the guy says.* "So about that guy with video game powers." *Witch grins*. Obviously a bit more subtle than that, but you get the idea. We're the ones distributing the misinformation and know what's really up.

I suppose, but the wordings will have to be subtle as a cat.

Oh! By way of stats, I guess I would like us to focus on Charisma, Agility and Luck best, so that on the off chance that things go sour, we can make a run for it.

I want to get to crafting and actually have a secret base for us and our gang or something. Not exactly world domination but a secret organization but for a gang would be cool.

A Gangsta X-Com, where they smoke weed and such. And make the dungeon Illusion barriers

[X] Okay, but be discreet. (Lower chance of finding information, lower chance of people finding out about your power)
-[X] ...But maybe I could come back every so often and you can kind of help me figure it out too? If so, I won't need a refund.

Okay, so tallying it up, it looks like the general thing is for her to research discreetly, and also meet up with her to experiment on your poor, fragile body. And maybe spread some false rumours, which will add a minor malus to the research results from other people, but will give a bonus to people not finding useful stuff about you.

Update up later!

It's entirely possible to go through the whole quest without once engaging in combat and keeping your criminal doings secret from law enforcement and heroic powers if you want
... you know what, this right there is the build I want. the "I dindu notting" build where we got the skills to ensure that nobody can pin anything to us.

Lets see, we would need to at the very least learn forensics. College textbooks for forensics classes would do well there for us.
Various electronic counter measures to ensure we are not leaving evidence that way. Hacking, electronics tracking, etc.
Smooth talking is important too. As is law.

"That sounds okay," you say, reaching up to run a hand through your hair as you consider it, "but maybe be discreet about it? I mean, you hear things about people who get targeted if they have useful powers, so I'd rather not find myself that kind of popular."

The witch-doctor rolls her eyes. "As if you could be any kind of popular, dipshit." She looks a little more relaxed though, now there's some kind of plan in the works.

"And -" you add, followed by a flash of suspicion on her face, "maybe spread a few rumours or something? Just to mix it up a little with the people you're asking. Plus I can also come by and you can run a few more... tests, or whatever." You try not to wince at the thought of possible future examinations, which will likely be one hell of a lot more invasive.

"That doesn't sound too bad." Standing up, she actually looks at you with a tight smirk, possibly the first expression from her that couldn't be described as a varying degree of either pissed-off or bored. "If there's one thing a Corpsebreaker mage is good at, it's experimenting on bodies!"

"Uh-"

"Okay!" She thumps one fist into her other palm, her enthusiasm apparently rising at the opportunity to, what, chop you up and replace parts of you until she figures out which part is weird? You have no idea. It's a teeeeeny bit creepy, y'know? "I'll see you here the day after tomorrow, 4pm. Should have everything I need by then, fucknut!"

So charming. "All... right, then..." you mumble, standing awkwardly, followed by being angled at the door by an suddenly inspired witch-doctor, who starts happily shoving you out into the hall, and then - in record time - outside. "I'll just work on i-"

The door shuts in your face. Again.

... Well. That was a thing.
Quest success! Got a check-up by the witch-doctor of Chrome City! +20% to level up!
New Quest!
Visit the so-called witch-doctor of Chrome City at 4pm the day after tomorrow!
REWARD: +25% to lvl up
FAILURE: New trait
Accept / Deny
At least the boxes will never abandon you. Maybe.

Sighing, you tap the accept button, before checking your watch. It's 10:30am now, and the more diurnal residents of Crime City (or Chrome, whatever) are mostly all up and about, going about their business by now. You, as the de-facto leader of a newly-established gang, don't really have any business at all, but... you can probably think of something, right?

[ ] Head back to your base and
-[ ] help the gang make it more comfortable
-[ ] hide in your room and pretend to be working on something
[ ] Wander over to the commercial areas and check out the shops
-[ ] Do something in particular?
[ ] The city's (underfunded) library might help with research...
-[ ] Any particular plan?
[ ] Write in.

I'd like to get to know the NPCs we'll be hanging out with the most a bit more.

oh god, this is so tempting... steal all the books and learn them
But we have no in character reason to think we can eat books yet. and did we even find our inventory yet? so frustrating

Its reliable in character work that hopefully will let us discover the wonderful world of skills

Um...

Which one is it?

Day after tomorrow, fixed.

You haven't found your status screens or inventory yet, nor have you used Observe on anything. Poor Alex fails at Gaming so far. :p On the bright side, things are becoming a lot clearer as to what your power is, even if how you got it is a ~MYSTERY~.

Eh, you should probably help the guys sort the base out, right? You don't want to get back and find out someone's convinced Kelly to spraypaint your room lurid pink. Again.

Hands in your pockets, you turn and amble back 'home', as quickly as you can without losing your suave, debonair appearance (or something). It doesn't take as long to get back as it did in the opposite direction; nearly afternoon, you don't have to be quite so careful about avoiding getting mugged by some idiot, although you pass a couple of people gossiping about an ongoing hostage situation at the bank - some local villain with a gravity-ray - so you can't say the city's ever a safe place to live.

Back at the ranch warehouse, Gregor and Xiang are manhandling what looks like a second-hand sofa into position on the ground floor's large, open space, the smaller of the two red-faced and clearly trying not to wheeze from exertion. "You going to faint?" you ask as you pass.

"Fuck - you - boss!" Xiang grunts, his hands too full to give you the middle fingers he so clearly desires to. Gregor grins, obviously barely feeling the strain. He'll probably ask you how the check-up went later, in private.

Up the stairs, Kelly has a workmate as well; taking a break from painting (probably because Gregor insisted), she and Mike are attacking the various spots of rust as much as they can, which is a multitude considering how much metal there is; stairs, railings, some of the walls and flooring, abandoned lockers, pipes...

You can't see Xiang's twin sister, Jin, but a quick check with Mike confirms she's 'out talking to some guy about plumbing, or something? I dunno, man, I was, like, not really listening, you know?'.

Yup. That's Mike for you, ever helpful.

[ ] Go back down and help Gregor and Xiang with the communal furniture.
[ ] There's a lot of metal, help Kelly and Mike with the rust.
[ ] Call Jin, see what's happening with the plumbing.
[ ] Write in a different task.

I agree that making friends and getting more boss-like is the best option for now, both in short and long term.

Goddamit Zen, you ninjaed me! :(

Seems like our (mostly non existant-- hey we've got a canon silver tongue right?) skills would be most needed negotiating.
