Pokemon Orange Version

Friends Will be Friends
Friends Will be Friends

Freddie was absolutely fabulous in his new trainer outfit. Everyone knew it. He was a Maceami boy through and through, even if his mom decided they were going to live in Rosemaburg instead.

Still! That didn't mean that he couldn't bring the fabulous Maceami Life to the rest of Sunsola! Today was a great day! The first day on his journey! He and his new starter were going to set the world ablaze with light and music!

Style and Flash!

That was the way to live! Buring brighter than the brightest stars and breaking through! That's why they needed to beat the Sunsola league together! To bring the Flash to everyone and sing their Champion song on the biggest, brightest stage in Sunsola!

It was time to break free!

Of course... There were some difficulties. But nothing they couldn't sort out together! The show must go on after all! It wouldn't do to get depressed waiting for the hammer to fall after all!

The bond between a trainer and their starter was a kind of magic that you only got to experience once in your life and he was absolutely certain that his partner was starting to agree!

After all, Freddie's starter was the flashiest of the bunch! A real speed queen, travelling at the speed of light! The perfect Pokémon! the Epitome of Flash! And Style!

Of course, there were some small issues having a Pokémon so much faster than you were. One of which was that your Pokémon was faster than you were.

That's what lead him to route one, chasing after his escaped starter.

She was just curious! Inquisitive and eager to explore! Just like him! He couldn't hold that against her!

Still... Freddie did hope he found her soon... Route one was dangerous and he had to admit he did feel under a little pressure to find her before she rushed headlong into danger.

Well, life was full of setbacks! He'd find her soon and show her he was somebody to love!

Until then he just had to keep searching!

"Mercury! Where are you?"

Yes. It was only natural that his starter wanted to break free. But once he found Mercury and told her "You're my best friend," Freddie was sure that everything would be alright!

"Good going, Totodile."

You bring your hand close to her head, and she bites on the leather glove. It doesn't feel as aggressive this time. That might be the numbness talking, but this bite feels more... cheerful?

Oh well. Progress is progress.
Is it... is it weird that my first thought is this kinda reminded me of Tanya from YS?

Also, our Tododile's apparently a battle maniac.

If I could get some quick feedback: How are people enjoying Pokemon Orange so far? This quest uses a different format than what I'm used to and I'd like to know how people feel about things going forward.

Questions, comments, and concerns are welcome.

I like it so far, but I think battles can probably be quicker is we did a Higher level Overall strategy? Like "leer and then beat the hell out of him" would have been one vote instead of multiple votes?

So far it's of the same quality as I've come to expect from all your quests. The characters are interesting and fun without things being overblown or feeling out-of-character for the setting. I'm really looking forward to how you're planning to handle the capture mechanic, and the integration of new teammates.

I'm also honestly a little bit concerned about the number of mon we'll potentially be capturing. Keeping a ton of mon and their individual personalities straight, even with notes, can be an incredibly daunting prospect; and it can be easy for it to seriously wear you out.

I might do that going forward. Thanks.

The Pokerole book does a lot of heavy lifting in terms of giving me stats to work with.

For meeting wild pokemon, I'll roll encounters from my route tables and throw in a random nature. A Bold Pidove will want to fight you on sight, while a Timid one will keep their distance and try to flee when hurt. That'll set the tone for a short event, but if you catch them I can introduce more quirks. Like what they like to eat or how they express themselves.

Keeps it simple. Avoids burnout.

"Au-rel-i-a," you correct. "Is that too many syllables?"
B-but Aurelia is three sylabes.

You should definitely change to "overall strategy" kind of battle vote. And I'm afraid that you will run out of jokes soon, it might be a bit hard for you to keep up that kind of silliness. But if you mamage to do that, then hell yeah!

The intelligence of the author does not reflect the intelligence of the characters. I'll fix that.

I have eight Pokemon generations and decades of spinoffs to take the piss out of. I'll be fine.

It depends on the language it seems. In latin it has four. In polish, spanish and italian it has three. And in hungarian it has five!

It is not... It's pronounced like the end of "Australia".
Alright, I changed it back. Nobody go messing the the English language again or so help me--

On another subject: I hope to get that next update done tonight. It'll be a short scene eating dinner and going over how you'll traverse the wilds of Sunsola on your adventure. Or just take the bus like a gigantamax-sized coward. The last hand-holding turorial aspect of the quest for the time being.

Should I even mention...

But yeah, the combination of accents and pronunciation differences and the fact the same city can be pronounced "My-lann" in at least one or two US states while also being pronounced "Mih-lahn" if it's in Italy? It really doesn't matter how many syllables she says it has. At least one person will inevitably pronounce it with a different number ("aw-ree-lee-ah" vs "awr-eel-ya" vs "aw-ruh") and it feels like we could have a running gag.

I think it's a bit early to say.

As far as battles go, we've only had the one battle, and it's with half a full moveset (assuming we keep to Pokemon's four - if not, well, either way). I think I'd want to see a few more examples before making any conclusive comments.

As far as characters go, we're in much the same boat, though I think you've done a great job with developing the characters and giving them personality with what little we've seen so far.

My one hope is that the chair granny will become a recurring character/gag.

looks good so far.

Kinda hope that its possible to be kinda less turn based eventually.

I.e asking the pokemon to dodge, or to block an attack with another attack..
