Petals of Titanium -- My Life as a Mecha Setting Bridge Bunny Quest

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Cripes, this is getting scary now.
Okay guys, we're messed up bad and really are going to need to get actual repairs before we can expect to do anything of note in the larger conflict.

[ ]The Rose didn't take major damage to its hull or any of its important subsystems

[ ]None of the friendly mechas took disabling or life threatening levels of damage

These I think are two of the biggest takes we can make-the enemy outnumbers us enough that I'd rather not take a 'bloodies their nose' option seeing as our reward, as the opponents here don't particularly seem spectacularly dangerous. Plus incompetent opponents means incompetently made wounds.

[X]The Rose didn't take major damage to its hull or any of its important subsystems

Because of our choices about information security our ship hasn't been repaired yet so let's not take any more wounds because we're still far from a friendly port.

[X]The Singh didn't survive and escape

Not sure the Rose can take much more, but this is important as well. The enemy just might assume a mutual kill instead of the Lily having escaped.

Of course, I'm open to convincing arguments about the other choices.
Even if the Singh dies, can't the enemy mecha report on the engagement outcome, perhaps even be picked up by elements from the rest of the HE Taskforce?

Choose one thing, meaning the other three bad things definitely happen? Ouch. That combat had felt more like a 10+ hit than a 7-9 until then.

The ship escaping means the enemy gets informed about us. Which means the Holy Empire will send a pursuit fleet after us and we have to flee towards friendly territory (except we don't know where that is because the Holy Empire is attacking). From a narrative viewpoint, though, this isn't a bad thing. It creates tension and ups the stakes and all that, and creates a looming threat that could easily drive a whole plot arc.

The Titanium Rose being damaged means we'll have a crucial component break down at an inconvenient time and need to go out in a space suit to fix the broken system (because the ship is short staffed), which easily sounds like it could be a good part of an episode. Plus it potentially gets more screentime for mechanic girl.

The mecha... well, we only have so many pilots and mecha. We already had one death in the first segment, another one so soon would be... well. Might mean we have to start recruiting from the civilians.

The mecha not taking losses means we potentially get recurring enemies and good old fashioned rivalries.

Honestly I would be fine with any of these, because all of these are complications that could potentially lead to interesting plot threads later. That said, going to go with:

[X] None of the friendly mechas took disabling or life threatening levels of damage

The night lily is an experimental stealth ship with royalty on board. Super high level target. Let's not let the enemy know where it is.

The Night Lily is way bigger than the Titanium Rose and is dramatically understaffed. Meanwhile, we only have two mecha pilots, three if we count the Imperial Guard. Everyone could theoretically move over to the Night Lily if the Rose becomes inoperable, but we can't replace mecha pilots nearly as easily.

I was assuming that the Singh was the enemy mecha force's mothership, so if it's taken out then the mecha's aren't long for this life either.

I'll give my vote some more thought.

God, this vote is downright sadistic. Probably gonna flip flop later but right now I'm leaning towards

[X]None of the friendly mechas took disabling or life threatening levels of damage

Losing another mecha pilot, through death or injury, could end up fatal if we get attacked again. I'm vaguely hoping that the comments about the ship we're rescuing having a bunch of stuff mothballed and not set up means they have spare supplies to lend us for repairs.

Sure, but it's a stealth ship. And the Titanium Rose is a fast scout ship that's good at running away from things fast. We're pretty well equipped to play a game of cat and mouse with the Holy Empire Navy.

Makes me think more we'll have more hull damage and a system or two offline or badly damaged until we can put into dock somewhere for repairs.

So regardless of the outcome, the overall goal is to exfiltrate the experimental ship and the VIP onboard. As a result, immediately after this we probably want to fall back to friendly space, preferably without having to go through another engagement. We don't want the Singh to call for help. I'm gambling here that even if our friendly mecha are disabled, the pilot will survive/be recoverable. We're told the Night Lily has a hanger full of mecha with no pilots that can probably serve as replacements in that case. If the Singh does escape with reports of our new shiny ship, they'll probably come back with more carriers that will overwhelm us regardless of what we still have (at best 3 mecha). Similarly, even if the Rose is critically damaged, we can likely transfer crew to the Night Lily. Leaving the enemy Mecha alive is unfortunate because they could counterattack again, but if the goal is to leave right away, we will probably be okay.

We're gonna have a bit of a journey ahead of us. We need to be in tip top shape.

See, the way I see things, there's no chance we're getting back to friendly space before we run into another enemy force. Because while it might be the optimal scenario, it doesn't make for very interesting writing.

The enemy is clearly mounting a major offensive, so there are going to be lots of ships and mecha everywhere. We've probably lost quite a few installations already and we're out of contact, so we don't know which places are still secure and which places are already overrun. It's more likely we'll stumble on the latter rather than the former.

If the Singh does escape with reports of our new shiny ship, they'll probably come back with more carriers that will overwhelm us regardless of what we still have (at best 3 mecha).

They'd have to catch up to us and actually find us, which isn't going to be easy when you're talking about a fast scout and a stealth ship. All that concentrated force is useless if it's in the wrong place.

Besides, if they do divert multiple carriers to go after us, that's multiple carriers that are busy wasting their time chasing after us, rather than contributing to the overall war effort.
