Petals of Titanium -- My Life as a Mecha Setting Bridge Bunny Quest

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
So, uh, can we have a restart? Another go at this quest with another character?

Reading back to her last moments, Jaycee deserves better. Lots of people in this quest deserves better, really.
Sadly, that's not really on the table. Fundamentally, this is a war story, even if a highly stylised one. People have to die, and it's my job to make that matter. There was never going to be a perfect ending where everyone gets what they deserve from life.

Gaz is not so secretly a sadist, lmao.
I'm really not! I want emotional beats to affect people, but this is a piece of entertainment I'm writing here, and it sometimes makes me pretty unhappy when I hear people saying something I wrote made them feel really bad.

This is sadly not that kind of quest. Going back through is just the groundhog day of angst. We'd save Jaycee, just to lose Perbeck or something.

There's a market for that sort of thing, you know, Peggy Sue.
Though I wonder how Amani could change the past, even if she wanted to. I mean, she's a comms officer on an old ship fighting for her life in the middle of an interplanetary invasion. Even with a boost future knowledge provides her, some things are just plain too suspicious to accomplish.
Like, figuring out the coded transmission fast enough. The same it took weeks of coding and deciphering the first time around. Kinda attracts attention, knowing the code enough to break it quickly. Mmm. There are some small opportunities for personal advancement, but eh. She ended up as an intelligence officer, which is nice enough, and I kinda don't see how she could realistically go higher than that from where she started in the span of time it took.

Also, that means romancing Lori the second time, so eh.

Yeah. Bit of an impossible long shot, I know.

Still gotta try though. I wonder what the quest will be if we chose to play as a mech trooper.

Weep not for roads untraveled
Weep not for paths left lone
'Cause beyond every bend is a long blinding end
It's the worst kind of pain I've known

Give up your heart, left broken
And let that mistake pass on
'Cause the love that you lost wasn't worth what it cost
And in time, you'll be glad it's gone

I started reading this after it was finished (it was awesome). But if we're talking might-have-beens, I do kind of wish it had gone the active kinetic defense specialist route. Because the parallels with the quest decisions, most of which were where to assign plot armor, and the in-character decisions of where to put our barriers, would have been pretty cool.

Instead, we are a comms specialist who had to make sure there were no Poor Communication Kills. :V

This was cute and I'm glad to have a glimpse of a road not taken.

Maybe I should do that more for my quest. :V pls ignore all the thirst sidestories involving Salt Admiral
