Perhaps a journey

This was fairly restrained in how our people act, I feel. The hunters targeted the attacking Big People, punished them, and left it at that. Simple, brutal, effective. Really, the immediate issue is that the hunters got up and did this on their own. This, combined with the fact that none of the other fairies really know how to handle or interact with the Big People like you or Pearl do means that future relations may result in similar actions. So, maybe have the hunters tag-along with us, see how they SHOULD act/react to Stupid People, teach them what is and isn't appropriate response to types of attack. Maybe rotate the hunters through this training, spread the word through the traders and gatherers about what sort of Big People they should be cautious about? Lets try and head off future nailings or fairy-nappings or Fairy Hunts.
This is a very good idea. Our people still know next to nothung about how to act here. Pearl and us have to show them.

-[x] See about having some of the hunters tag along with us on patrols to get Big People Training-g!~

I'm curious as to what the Hound-People can possibly do.

There is absolutly Jack that they can do without litterally calling in a master mage. Its simply not worth the effort for them. We promise not to do it again, they ignore the bloody murder of half a dozen criminals. Everyone goes home unhappy with the deal.

Its unlikley it'll happen again, they did this to make a point. And honestly the point is pretty much made by now.

[x] Talking to

In the end, your sense that this was an issue overrides your sense of approval. It's one thing to go around hunting animals. It's a bit different hunting living people. As much as you want to let this go, or even let this wait until the keeper gets here, you don't think that would be a good idea.

It takes time to get the hunters together. You use that to send a message to Rufus about the circumstances, and review what you need to say about this.

There are eleven hunters that came with the traders. Five of them did the deed. The rest of them didn't think that they were needed or were out on other things.

The leader of the bunch was a soft blue and gold fairy named Lilac. She's the poison specialist as well, and you know she can be spectacularly creative when she needs to be. She's also actually a very kind fairy as well, which is the reason she uses poisons.

The rest of them are a mix of hard and soft skills. One of the more dangerous ones is a strength specialist named Wajd who's actually one of the oldest ones here. She wields a chain and ball (Steel now that she's moved here, it was stone.) You've seen her shatter a skull with the thing, and it's half her size. She fortunately wasn't involved in this, but she does rather approve, which makes this an uphill battle. She's also the brightest shade of pink you've ever seen.

"All right!" You call out as they gather around. "We need to talk a bit! Killing big people causes trouble-e!"

"Nailing one of ours to a wall causes more-e." The comment from Wajd has them nodded.

"Well duh." You roll your eyes at them all. "In fact, had you nailed a few of them to their walls I wouldn't be saying this. Killing them is what causes the issues-s."

"The big people started it! Plus they keep saying 'what can a little thing like you do?' Well we showed them-m!" One of the other hunters chimes in, and gets a few cheers.

"Well if they start it, hit em a few times. Don't go around killing them!" You shout down the rest. "Or get a police officer. Hunters stop threats. They have hunters too! I don't want to have to fight their hunters-s."

"Oh, how strong are their hunters then?" Wajd leans in with an interested look. "You are no sloth Oma, and the shiny new toys you have are lots better than most of ours too-o."

You purse your lips in thought. "Rufus could probably stop one of us if he needed to. The bigger things are the magic people. I haven't seen em fight, but they are supposed to be scary-y."

"Oooh!" You got the attention of them now. Magic is a bit of a new subject for all you.

"Yeah, so if you don't want to have a mage hunter after you all, you can't kill! Now I gotta go talk to the police people so we don't have one burn down the new forest we have-e!" You are probably exaggerating a bit. You think.

"What if they try to do that nail thing again-n?" Lilac's voice is quiet as she interjects, but gets full attention.

"Then you call me and I will get Rufus to help." You state flatly. "In fact, I will personally be certain that they get nails in uncomfortable places-s."

Lilac's mount quirks. "Sounds like a plan-n."

You nod at them all before perking up a bit. "Oh, and none of the whole blood sport stuff either. A lot of the big people get disturbed by it-t."

You get more than a few giggles before Lilac chimes in again. "Don't worry. That was just to make a point. We actually just used sleepy death and then cut up the bodies-s."

"Oh." Well, that's a bit less murderous then at least. "Wait, you have sleepy death-h?!"

"Just got some-e!" Lilac chimes out and giggles at your expression.

"No fair, that's HARD to find!" You whine out and get a few of the others laugh out loud. "Be careful with it too. I don't want to have to explain to the big people that a few buildings of people died. Then they will chase us out instead of just burn the place down-n."

"Don't got that much." The fairy in question pouts. "Just enough for another small room if I need it. Saving it for something big-g."

You nod in understanding. That poison is one of the nastier ones to use. It's a gas that sinks in the air. It works on anything that breathes, and is best described as something that puts a person to sleep forever.

"Omaaaaaa-aa!" A fairy zips and and upon spotting you smiles. "There is a shiny silver hair outside the park asking for you! Something about 'the chief wants the perpetrators now!'"

[X] Plan Kestrel

Like a ripping off a bandaid. I'm honestly not sure what's going to happen, they did something most people would call 'cruel and unusual' and they're going to be punished for it, no doubt about it. The 'how' is what really worries me. Imprisonment would not go well with the free willed Fair Folk and execution is going to leave none of the others happy.

On the other hand, they're going to punish a group from an almost unassailable nation that could easily fuck over the entire country if they ever felt like it, so people might treat this with kid's gloves. Not to mention the very different mentality when it comes to things. The gov' might just fine them at the lightest.

[X] Kestrel, minus [Explain it was not a mass murder]

Because it was totally a mass murder. Ignorance of the law is not a good defense.

--

You heave a big sigh and look at the hunters around the area. "Ok, silver hair means champion! That means we got a big people hunter here." You frown a bit. "They don't usually wanna kill people, so I'm going to need Lilac to come with me. The rest of you remember what I said. If I hear about you killing big people, then I will get MAD get it-t?"

You get a few general sounds of something like agreement. Yeah, this isn't going to last long right now. Hopefully the Keeper will get here soon so you don't have to kick a few heads in to get them to listen.

Lilac casually floats next to you while the rest start to wander off. "Hmm, are we going to be fighting-g?" She asks casually as you watch a few float off.

"No, we are going to be talking." It's always 'fun' trying to get your people to do things they don't like. If it were a hunt you wouldn't have issues like this, there you would be accepted as an authority. "I hope it's Rufus. That mess you made probably made a few people mad. But he's fun, so he should at least be able to make certain things go ok. I dunno what the big people will want, but it's likely something you aren't going to like-e."

Lilac gives a small shrug. "I hunted. If they have issues, I will accept that-t."

You heave another sigh and motion to have Lilac follow you. It's a matter of minutes to get outside the park, and to where the Champion is standing placidly. A trader is actually conversing with him, and you get the impression that she's attempting to sell something.

"And all you want is a piece of my hair?" You hear him state. He sounds very amused.

"You'd be surprised what your hair would go for back hom." The trader assures him. "I can assure you that this is one of the higher quality pieces we have. I think it's a fairly worthy trade-e."

Rufus spots you coming and gives a wave of acknowledgment. "I be afraid I have to decline at the moment. Business before pleasure after all."

"Of course." The trader inclines her head and puts something back in her pack as you approach. "Hello hunters. Good hunting to you both-h."

"Good trading-g!" You and Lilac reply back as she flutters off.

Rufus looks you and the other fairy over as you both come to a stop. "This be the main perpetrator then?"

You give a nod. "Yep. This is Lilac. She's the one who planned most of it. She also found the trader nailed to the tree-e."

Rufus looks a bit started by that. "You mentioned one of your people were hurt. Not that they were nailed to a tree!" He slaps his hand to his face. "Does she need medical attention? We have that for you all, if you didn't remember."

You tilt your head, and Lilac does as well. She's the one to speak next. "There were five nails. One through her torso, and four through her wings." She flutters hers in example. "These don't really have sensation, so the nails there didn't do much there. The nail through her torso impailed her spine. She can't move her legs, but that will heal in about a month or more depending on if she aggravates it. She will be fine-e."

Rufus twitches and then shakes his head. "You be hardy little things. I forgot about that. If you wish it, we can provide assistance for her as well. But that be something different. Lilac, could you describe what you did to kill those six, and why?"

Lilac nods at him. "When we recovered the trader she stated that the man and his people had been irritating her lately while she spoke with people about deals. She chased them off a few times, and thought nothing of it. Then they captured her with a next of some sort. At which point they beat her until she was unconscious, and then she woke when they drove the spike into her stomach. She identified the leader, and the others that were there while she was nailed."

Here Lilac pauses to be certain you are all following along. "After which, I gathered a few hunters and one of my doses of Sleepy Death. We tracked down where they were, and waited until they were isolated in their room. I used the poison, and we then waited for it to take effect. Afterwards we decided that if they wanted to send a 'message' we would send one back. We skinned the bodies and made a mess." She shrugs at this. "In retrospect that was rather immature. I should have just made certain they were dead and left it at that-t."

"That..." Rufus sighs. "Might have made this easier." The champion frowns and looks up into the sky. "Here be what's going to happen. Oma, I need Lilac to come with me. You are going to go to the chief, and we are going to have you repeat this. Then you will be placed in a jail until your keeper comes."

You both wince. "She's not gonna be happy-y."

"You be more scared of the keeper than you be of jail." Rufus notes clinically. "I be taking note of that."

You give a nervous laugh and look at Lilac. She doesn't look horribly perturbed. "I think that's gonna be best. You ok with that Lilac-c?"

"If it's necessary." The fairy sighs and then frowns. "Your jails are just big bars. I could fit through the spaces. How are you going to hold me in that-t?"

"I think..." Rufus coughs. "We have a birdcage that's being reinforced."

Lilac crosses her arms. "No way-y."

Perl's learning to become a politician. We're the one on the police force, why would she know more about criminal law than we do?

I was going to play this differently if this answer had won, but a person picked up on the actual reason that she objected (she didn't want to be in a bird cage). Otherwise this would have gone a lot less nice. As in fighting not nice. But since someone noted it I will go ahead and let his voice be heard.

"Yes way!" You state as you frown at Lilac. "This is important, and I don't wanna have more issues later-r."

Lilac's cheeks puff out and she hisses at you. "Don't wanna, and that's final-l!"

Rufus coughs a bit to interrupt. "Perhaps a kennel instead? I be unsure what will be suitable, but I'm guessing you don't want the bird cage?"

The fairy pauses a bit. "That big enough for me to fly around? A bird cage is tiny and cramped-d."

"Yes." Rufus nods at the fairy. "Actually since it seems to be an issue with space, I'll see about getting a cell modified for you. It be easier for all of us, and would give you enough space to fly."

Lilac nods at this point. "That's better." She sticks her tongue out at you. "No bird cage-e!"

You roll your eyes. "I'm going to go get the trader as well since it was a big deal with you. I'll meet you at chief-f?"

Rufus shakes his head. "We can wait. Better we all be there at the same time." He looks at Lilac with an amused look. "Though technically I should have you chained so you can't run."

The hunter looks at him and then at the handcuffs at his belt. "I could put it around my waist-t?" She offers uncertainly as you fly off.

The trader who got hurt is in her room dealing with a few items. Fortunately she can still fly around somewhat, so it's not like she's totally invalid. Unfortunately she has to be slow when she does it. The wing muscles are all around the back, and they tend to tug all sorts of places. It's likely agony to go anything more than a slow flutter, and with the torn wings you can't imagine her able to do much else anyway.

"Heyyy Wafiyah-h!" You call out to her.

She turns her head to view you with a wince. "Hello Oma. What can I do for you-u?"

She's got long purple hair, and has somehow gotten a very pretty matching dress. Traders in general have a softer look than hunters, but that doesn't mean that they aren't dangerous. Just that it's not their focus.

"Think you would be up for a trip? I want you to speak with the police about what happened-d." You hover over her with a slightly concerned look. Spine injuries take a long time to heal, and hurt.

She frowns a bit and flutters her tattered wings. The face she makes as she lifts off isn't pleasant. "I don't think I would be able to be fast. I'm good otherwise-e."

"I'll carry you." You state and lift her up. "Keep your wings folded-d."

She sighs, but lets you speed off and out of the woods to where Rufus is waiting with Lilac. He looks up as you come in and his eyes widen a bit before he shakes his head. "You know even with how tough you are, you still evoke quite a bit of sympathy when you look that injured." The champion states as he looks at Wafiyah with a wince.

You shrug a bit and adjust your hold slightly.

With that you all go off to the chief's office. It takes some time, and the sun is starting to set as you get there. You get more than a few curious looks, but you are able to get into the office without issues.

There you set down Wafiyah and she adjusts herself so that she can be sitting. The Chief notes her winces and the lack of movement of her legs and raises an eyebrow at Rufus and you. He obviously wants an explanation.

[]

[x] Nailed!

You point to the sitting fairy. "This is Wafiyah. She's the one that got nailed to the tree." You begin to explain, and the chief holds up his hand to interrupt you with a sigh.

"Get someone in here to take this down." He orders Rufus, rubbing at the bridge of his nose. "I swear your people are going to be the death of me, I just know it."

That makes all of you tilt your head, and Lilac whispers a question at you. You whisper back to explain as another officer comes in with a few sheets of paper and a pen. She settles down, and the chief orders you to continue.

"Ok! Well, Wafiyah was nailed to the tree before this happened. Three days ago now?" You look down at the fairy who nods. "Lilac found her there, and then went after the ones who did it. She poisoned them and then decided to make certain it looked bad as an example-e."

The chief groans and Rufus cuts in to clarify.

"The victim was nailed to a tree with five nails, and left to die as a demonstration by our criminal element." The champion begins and then points to the trader. "Since Fairies can recover from nearly anything, this merely paralyzed her instead of killed her. She described her attackers, and the hunters were the ones that responded. Fairies kill things that hunt them. This tripped that reaction."

The chief inhales a bit and looks at the two other fairies. "All right, you are Lilac then." He points to the one who nods. "She just came along?" He looks to Rufus.

The champion nods in reply. "Oma's been instrumental in keeping this from being a manhunt. Lilac's agreed to cooperate, provided we remodel a cell to hold her."

The chief raises an eyebrow, but nods. "That's acceptable for now. Treat everyone the same and all that." He turns towards Lilac. "You admit you killed these men?"

"Yep-p!" Lilac nods without shame.

"Such an enthusiastic little murderer." Alister mutters and groans. "All right, get her to the cell. Wafiyah will go with the scribe over there, Rufus you go too and make certain she gets home all right. Oma will stay for a moment."

As the people get up, and another officers is brought in to take Lilac away, you settles yourself on the desk with a curious expression. The chief waits until everyone is gone before sighing explosively and looking at you.

"Well, on the plus side I don't have to deal with one of you little wildcats going rogue." He settles back and raises an eyebrow at you. "I just be having to deal with the fact that you consider mass murder a proper retaliation."

"Spoke with them about that!" You chirp in reply. "They will listen enough until a Keeper gets here, she can keep them in line then-n."

"And the fact that killing people doesn't disturb you be rather disturbing to me." The chief replies with a snort. "This Keeper, when will she be here?"

"Maybe a month?" You reply back after thinking a bit. "I don't know which one is coming, but the traders do say one is coming. I think her specialty is trading, but I don't know what else aside from that-t."

"So she's not going to be a threat to half the city?" The Chief asks with a raised eyebrow.

You blink a few times. "Well... If you don't count her buying half it a bad thing-g?"

"I need a drink." The chief pushes out his chair and gets up. "I want a viable plan for you to police your people by tomorrow. You can't have Rufus, but if you want other officers you have it. Right now your little enclave is our best bet, and you are the only one I trust out of the lot. We are going to hold Lilac until the keeper gets here. The PR is already nightmarish, but with Wafiyah's testimony we can keep it from being all out riots. Another incident like this will have people hunting you down, and I don't want to see a bloodbath like that."

He spears you with a look. "The king himself is keeping an eye on this. Your people would be great allies, but we have to be certain you won't bleed us to death."

With that he leaves the room.

Huh, he's got a looooot of shinies on his desk.

On a different note. I was playing around with different crossover ideas. You know what the Fairy race I've made reminds me most of?

Hm... Well, among other things maybe we need to be permanently assigned to the area instead of wandering around assisting Rufus? At least until the Keeper shows up.

Maybe we can conscript a couple other hunters and pair them with Big People to help explain the rules of policing? Fairies seem like they'd be better suited to policing other fairies as long as they had someone to explain policing to them.
Yeah that sounds pretty good. Although I think those officers (I'm assuming you mean pair them up with officers rather than normal Big People) should stick around around with us until the Keeper comes, we're a badass Fairy cop but we're also the only one for the time being.

We can also write up all the things there not allowed to do and post it around Fairytown or whatever too.
