1.9 I Take Pride, y'know!
[X] "I-is that a child over there? Oh, it's just Dorothy."

A small head bobbed at a booth. Jill could barely see the top of the person's head, but what she could see was their feet dangling back and forth underneath the booth seats. Oh, for the love of--. Looks like another kid snuck into Valhalla, hoping to run their shoddy fake I.D's by to get a drink. Or even worse, flash their real I.D's in an attempt to indulge in a base fantasy. We may be a crappy little bar, but we still have to adhere to the law, no matter how close to becoming condemned we are. Besides, Jill would hate to lose her job.

With a deadpan glance at Gillian, Jill motioned towards the girl. Following her gaze, Gill saw the child as well. Hesitating, he nodded his head, and made his way over to her. His words were unintelligible but he was clear he was asking for her I.D. After a few seconds, he started scratching his head in confusion. How hard is it to send an underage kid out of here? Jill groaned aloud when he looked at her, begging for help.

Boots stomping on the flooring, Jill looked down a the girl, "Hey, need to see an I.D--Oh, Dorothy. Been quite some time since you last visited. A week or two now?"

"Awwwww, honey, did you miss me? Counting out the days for when I'd make my triumphant return?" The "girl" was actually someone Jill recognized. Of course, she couldn't tell Dorothy that she'd forgot about her. Technically, Dorothy was considered a regular since she first started visiting a few months ago. It wouldn't do any good to alienate one of the rare few who haunted this place.

"Don't push your luck, Dorothy. We were this close to having to ask you to leave." Jill crossed her arms in exasperation, "You really should check in with me or the Boss before you settle in."

"Yeah, you're right, sorry!" Dorothy beamed, waving her hands in the air in mock surrender. Her red hair was almost blood red in this lighting, and there was something like a metallic headband rest on the top of head. Her skin looked even more unnaturally pale than it would've otherwise. From looks alone, no one would be faulted for saying she looked like a kid just reaching her teen years. 13 or 14 years old was the common guess.

Suddenly, Gill spoke up, confused, "Am I missing something here?"

"Oh, right, forgot about you. This is Dorothy," The person in question waved at Gillian while Jill droned on, "She's a Lilim. You know, fully functional A.I with an artificial body that more or less emulates our own. Sounds like the basis for a real sci-fi action film, huh?"

"R-right. I forgot that Glitch City is a playground for A.I development..."

"So you aren't from around here, honey?" Dorothy was looking at Gillian with interest, a gleam in her eye that Jill thoroughly recognized, "I can show you around if you want. I can show you a lot of things. What's your name, hon?"

Before Gillian could speak, Jill interjected, "His name is John. New worker, he literally just started today."

"Don't listen to Jill, she's just riding my ass. My actual name is--"

Dorothy perked up, winking an eye at Jill, "She's riding you? Well, John, I have a card with all the updated prices, and for a certain amount of money, you could be riding me. Discounts if you pay for the room, take me for dinner, or we go to a movie first~."

Gillian sputtered, "I--hold on, what?!"

"Don't make her say it out loud, John. Anyway, where have you been all this time, Dorothy?"

"Do you really want to know? I can tell you all kinds of stories! Though I might skip the ones that take place in allies, I hate describing those decrepit places."

"...Just give me the short version."

"Ah, you're no fun." Dorothy slumped over in disappointment, "It was weird. Not sexually weird, just weird overall. This guy paid me a ton of money to act like his daughter for a week."

Gillian and Jill, both in unison spouted, "What?"

"I know, right?! I stayed at his home, and he provided everything from clothes to food for me. It was kinda nice but really stuffy. To be honest, I kept expecting him to come to my room at night. He never did though. After a week, I got my money, and he formally thanked me. He even let me keep the clothes--"

Dorothy picked at her white shirt and skirts. Jill raised an eyebrow but kept silent. Those are your regular clothes though. Gillian was fully engrossed in the story, his expressions changing every second. Dorothy was cheerfully talking, making motions with her hands when she got excited. Definitely a weird girl. She took pride in what she did, and Jill had to sort of respect that.

"--some kind of incest fetish? But nope, I guess he just needed company. Only people in that house were the servants. Powerful men have too much pride to talk to servants, I guess."

"Well, that's enough of that, Dorothy. Are you here for a drink?"

"Yep! Looking for something hard to put in me before I go out and let someone else do it~."

God, the words coming out of her mouth contrasted so heavily with that cute innocent face. Even after getting to know her, Jill still felt a bit jarred by it. Least of all, Gillian was speechless. He fumbled with his words before giving up and walking back to the bar counter, a dazed look on his face.

"Honeeeeeyyy, why don't you ever smile when I come in? Don't you like me?" Dorothy puffed up her cheeks, pouting.

Jill rolled her eyes a bit, "Yes, I like you. But I'm not as naturally cheerful as you."

"Fine, but I know your weakness! There is one certain way to make you laugh every time." A wicked grin appeared on Dorothy's face. Getting up on her seat, Dorothy leaned towards Jill, "Honey, I'd like for you t o make me that drink. You know the one; a big Bad Touch."

Pffft. A giggle escaped Jill's lips as she tried to hold it in. S-she wants...she wants...Hahaha.

+1 Happiness!

"...Is Jill okay? She looks like she's in pain."

"Don't worry about it, John. Jill just has the humor of an 8 year old." Dorothy turned back towards Jill, "See, I know how to make you smile. Anyway, I actually found the recipe for a Bad Touch. Here, take it. Just because I like you.~"

Jill cleared her throat, trying to regain her composure, "So, uh, did you really want a Bad--pfft--Touch? I can go and go you one right now."

"Just a joke, hon. Actually I'm looking for something bitter. Trying to keep myself up for my shift tonight. Many things will be up as well!"

"Alright, I'll be right back."

Okay, we want bitter.

So, not coffee liquor, not vermouth, probably not orange juice.

Um, so, here's the provisional first part:

[X] SakeRoto(Sour)

Then...I'm trying to figure out whether the orange juice would balance out to create a sort of 'bitter orange' flavor, or whether it would make it too sweet.

Edit: Oh my god I'm analyzing alcohol for a quest what is wrong with me.

I'm going to risk it all, then. Roll the dice that the sake and sourness overwhelms the orange juice to create a sour orange.

Bitter and keeps her awake?
Coffee

Hmm, maybe.

Shit. Maybe Veekie's right? I was thinking of a coffee liquor as being sorta sweet and creamy, honestly. In a coffee way.

Like a Frapachino or something (doesn't drink coffee.)

Hey, wait a second. We have QM confirmation that the Coffee Liquor is not bitter! So it's not going to be good for being sour/bitter, I don't think.

I also don't think tea is sour?

Someone who knows tea, confirm?

/Taking this seriously.

I am so happy I found this quest.

I'm even happier I found this quest right when Dorothy showed up!

@AWACS Sky Eye Danke!

Sour isn't a word I'd use, no.

Thank you for this quest! I've never heard of this game before, and I'm going to buy it this week.

Remember the part where I don't actually drink much?

However I do know that if you unsweeten orange it can be bitter. And tea flavor like would be...slightly herbal?

To call this drink a proper mix would actually be an insult to all true mixes in the world! This was something that you could easily make at home. Jill shook her head, grabbing a brown bottle of SakeRoto. It was a Japanese import, which makes it sound rather exotic. It really wasn't. It was a fairly low grade sake, otherwise Valhalla wouldn't have such a large stock of it. As for the orange juice...Boss had a deal with the local corner store at the end of the street. Well, a drink's a drink, I guess.

Jill didn't even need the mixing cup or strainer for this one. Simply pouring the orange juice over the ice cubes, Jill uncorked the SakeRoto, and filled the rest of the cup. No stirring needed, it was barely a mix. But this ought to do the trick. Dorothy wanted something bitter. It was the same way that someone who wanted to get drunk would buy those disgusting 3 credit cans of vodka. Squirming at the thought, Jill brought the drink to Dorothy's table, who simply beamed.

"Dorothy, you should probably drink this one slowly--"

Without even looking at the frothy mix, Dorothy chugged the whole thing down. Jill clamped her mouth down as she watched, wincing all the while. Dorothy's eyes widened and she slowly set the mug back onto the table. Her face went through a hundred expressions before settling cheerfully into a smile. But this time, it was strangely frozen.

"Wow, is that what it feels like to get kicked in the balls?!" Dorothy looked behind her with pity, "John, I feel sorry for you and your people."

"As do I, Dorothy, as do I." Jill was struggling to keep another giggle down. But even her poker face couldn't hide the laughter dancing in her eyes.

"Just what I needed. Still, that was a looooot stronger than I expected it to be. If it weren't for my experience in downing foreign substances, I might've had an issue~."

"A-anyway, was that all you needed, Dorothy?"

"Trying to get rid of me already? I feel insulted, emotionally denied, hurt even. Well, that's alright, hon. I gotta hit the streets in a bit."

Jill frowned, "That's not what I meant and you know it. Did you need another pick-me-up at all? As much as I love serving drinks you could probably get discount priced at 1 credit, it's a part of my job to serve you."

"Serve me?! Well, then--"

"Not sexually. Need another drink?"

"No, not really. I actually have a bit of time left, why don't you take a seat?"

Jill glanced at the counter. Only one customer was sitting there, a rather large man with a cybernetic eye. But this one was your run of the mill version, instead of Stella's more expensive invasive one. Gillian was in deep conversation with the man. Huh, looks like he's doing just fine. Silently accepting Dorothy's offer, Jill sat down on the worn leather booth seats.

"Don't people need to pay you for this kind of service?"

Dorothy's wicked grin returned, "It's an exception for you. But you still have to pay if you want to get naughty."

"I'll pass, thanks. I'm more curious about the guy who paid you to act like his daughter. That's just so...odd."

Leaning forward conspiratorially, Dorothy whispered, "I'm pretty sure his daughter died. I saw a picture in the foyer. Must've been a family one, because there was a kid and a woman, probably the wife."

"You didn't say anything about the wife, so I guess she either left him or she's gone as well. Did you resemble the girl at all?"

"Nope! She was almost as tall as the man, and he towered over me."

"Wait, I don't get it then. Why hire you?"

"Probably because I'm the only person in this city who looks like a kid. Because of that, I have a huge advantage over the other girls. The amount of role-playing I do every night could probably earn me a scholarship at any art university~."

Jill's nose crinkled. Even though it seemed pretty obvious, she'd made an effort not to think about Dorothy actually does. Still, Dorothy almost makes it a point to shove it down your throat---...hahaha. Back on topic.

Hiding her smile, Jill asked, "Doesn't that weird you out at all?"

"No, I'm okay with it. It's a like a service to the community anyway. 100 creds a pop and suddenly our resident secretly-not-a-pedo isn't thinking about anything illegal when they see a little one."

"That's...an interesting way of looking at it. Thank you for keeping our children safe, Dorothy."

A wink and a grin, "Not all hero's wear capes~."

"You're okay with anything, aren't you? I'm pretty sure I've seen you give cards out to women, men, and even vending machines."

"Hey! Even vending machines have needs. Poor dears may be serving time, but they're still paying Lilim customers."

How do they even pay? Nevermind, I don't want to know. That's just gonna open another can of worms. Jill shook her head and glanced around the room. Slow night. It's likely that Dorothy might be a small handful that Jill would have to serve tonight. That's a bit boring.

"Well, I got to go. Night's a-wasting."

"Alright, see you some other time then."

"Later, honey~."

Blowing a kiss at Jill, Dorothy quickly dashed out the door. For all intents and purposes, she looked a like a kid who was excitedly racing towards an old ice cream truck. Speaking of cream~.

"....Dorothy's rubbing off on me the wrong way." With a sigh, Jill returned to the counter.
