Path of the Immeasurable Swarm [Worm/Cradle]

I am seriously enjoying how Taylor is developing in this timeskip. It seems like she has adapted very well to the new world and her place in the clan and the wider world. She seems to have developed a lot of the polish that she needed to acquire to interact with politics well and continue to develop into a powerful political force (later) and a strong sacred artist.

for a moment I thought that my dreams had come true and I was reading a crossover interlude with path of the immeasurable swarm inside of fire and destruction, and that kenta blackflame was eventually going to meet cradle!Taylor and that you were writing your stories in parallel. then I checked the title.

my dissappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

jk great chapter can't get enough of this stuff

Ayy, the Cradle crew arrives in the story at last.

I haven't read Skysworn since it released, so could someone remind me who Bai Rou is? A quick search tells me they've got some beef with Yerin, and that people wanted Yerin to come back and paste them as an Underlady, but not much else.

Bai Rou is the skysworn agent that was partnered with the lady who found Lindon at the end of Blackflame. He is on a poison path of some distinction, and threw Yerin off the Skyship, and was going to kill her at the slightest provocation. He was more than a bit of an unpleasant jackass to our protagonists. That said he was pretty dedicated to his job, its just he was very much a 'good for the empire, not for you' kind of guy.

You got Yerin's personality down so well. Folksy idioms and all. Congratulations!

its alive the path of necro works time to kill more bunny's in the ritual circle
nice chapter thx for writing it good to see taylor keeping up her hobby of escalating situations

Glad to see this back.

Canon looks to be vaguely on track. I'm curious as to the politics that seem to have put Harmony in Ghostwater. Yes, Mercy skipped right past it by advancing (which, tactically, seems like a mistake - Ghostwater would have been a decent boost for her. Still, they couldn't have predicted that they'd need to return to Ghostwater early). But Harmony seems distinctly disfavoured after the way things have been going for him.

I guess it's to placate his side of the family, since they're no longer getting that engagement and even if he is out of favour with Charity, he's still a powerful Truegold. As long as you're not comparing him to Mercy, he still looks pretty good.

I hope we don't lose Pride from the Akura team, but the comment in the previous chapter about needing to break his hero-worship of his sister makes me think that he won't hit his potential in time, giving us an Akura team of Mercy (with a fair amount of additional training as an Underlady), Taylor (she's Truegold now, on a Shadow path - If she wants to take part, the Nightwheel Valley is a decent place to train...) and Lindon, assuming that he still murders Harmony.

And, in fairness, I mostly want Pride around because of his interactions with Lindon in canon, and we don't necessarily need that ground retreading. Plus, their relationship just wouldn't develop the same way without events that have already been butterflied away - If he doesn't think Lindon is trying to marry Mercy, 95% of his antagonism just disappears.

I want to see a matchup between Sophara and Taylor - I'd forgotten that Sophara was canonically shitty at defending her mind. I'm not sure if Taylor can take Sophara in the ring (We see her counter to dream artists in canon and I'm not sure that Taylor would be able to handle it) but in a real fight, she's got a decent chance.

Was actually thinking of this story today, what are the chances?

Anyway, you've pretty much answered one of the largest questions I had with this crossover, that being how Lindon and Yerin would survive without Mercy to help them early on. I like how you've handled it. Is it a little plot armour-y? Yes, but not enough to truly matter.
Same as mine having reread the story last night. Just an hour or two before this was posted.

It's not necessarily Harmony - he's the one who sent the technique that would have killed Yerin in canon, but things were tense enough that I could see a general melee breaking out regardless.

Taylor's presence on the island makes me think it might be Grace or Pride in there, or one of her other Akura friends.

Possible. I'm not sure that things would play out the same way without Harmony. And I'm not convinced that any of the other competitors would be able to stop Renfei quite so easily - She might not be on their level, but she's a Truegold, in decent armour. I'd expect her to be able to survive a hit or two and escape. It was only Harmony's Shadow's Edge attack that let him carve her apart inside her armour. None of Taylor's Akura friends are likely to be quite as murderous (Grace, in particular, seems like a genuinely decent human being), Ziel wouldn't kill her out of hand, and that leaves Akeri and Yan Shoumei - Both are deadly, but (especially Shoumei pre-Crusher) they're not nearly as overwhelmingly powerful as Harmony.

I assumed Taylor was just there because Charity is working, so she's taken her disciple with her.

Woooo! Good to see this returning.

I doubt its Grace given that she probably wouldn't be throwing around highly lethal techniques as casually as Harmony does. Its also probably not Pride since his path only has enforcer techniques iirc. Chance is that Harmony is the Akura's strongest young truegold atm which is likely why he was is being sent despite not being in favor with Charity. If its not Harmony then its probably some other Akura like Akura Courage, or maybe the technique was from one of the other faction representatives this time like Yan Shoumei or Ekerinatoth.

Akura Loyalty makes a lot of sense. Is this canon? If not, kudos for coming up with it. Fits his character perfectly.
In canon Mercy called him "Old Man Lo" so Loyalty is an entirely possible name for him, and it seems likely that Mercy is more or less the only one who calls him that given how casual she is around everyone.

Well, yes, that's why I thought it fit so well. I can't see any mentions of Loyalty in Ghostwater from search, so I thought the author really must have nailed the name.
