Path of the Immeasurable Swarm [Worm/Cradle]

Sect is one of those fics that's objectively well written and has absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it just didn't quite grab me. Couldn't tell you exactly why, and lots of people clearly do like it, so I'd definitely recommend checking it out and deciding for yourself. But if you can't get into it, don't feel compelled to keep reading.

If I could make a guess, based on the main focus on your own fic ?

It is the theme of story.

Your own, Path of the Immeasurable Swarm, is, unless I am mistaken, primarily character driven : The first things that happen in it is the interaction of Taylor with Charity, and the details included are about how they relate to each other. The characters drive the rest, and the rest is done in service of them.

Ryuugi, in all his stories, including sect, is a lot more world driven. His focus in in mixing as best as possible the various mythologies and physics, and the characters explore this, while the deciding factors in interactions (not just fight, the sugar plot is an example) are decided primarily by this.

Worm is action, and most xianxia are power fantasies, which are another two possible themes.

Both Sect and PotIS are really well written, but for all they share a fandom (worm) and genre (xianxia), they are different work in a fundamental way.

Sorry if you didn't mean it that way - or, I guess, not, if you did? - but while you are, I think, actually correct, the way the post read to me was very goofy.

So, in case anyone else's knee jerk reaction is the same as mine - "what the hell is this guy on about" - I think what he is saying is "Path has excellent character work because that's what Derivative wants to explore, and everything else is good because they write pretty well" and "Sect has excellent mechanics because that's what Ryuugi wants to explore, and everything else is good because they write pretty well", respectively.

That aside, since I'm finally commenting anyway, I really should say this - Derivative, I fucking love this story. I picked it originally because I was on a Worm kick - and "female protag xianxia, but actually good" is something I'm craving like a man does water in the desert, besides - so I had high hopes, ones you didn't disappoint. I was, genuinely, quite happy - the story wasn't exceptional, as I'm concerned. Mostly carried by Taylor, for me - but still, a solid, respectable 8*.

And then you shattered my every expectation when you actually brought QA into the story, and it just kept getting better with every chapter. I really, really love this story, and I'm sad to hear it's near the end - but I'm also happy it is gonna have an end, and hopefully a good one. Thank you, for writing it.

* For reference, pretty much the only 10s I have are nostalgia ladden books that were formative to my tastes :V

never ended up going back to that fic, and my current plan is to start on an original fiction once Path is complete.

Please post a link when u start!

Would people be interested in reading that fic, knowing that it will almost certainly never be continued? It's currently sitting at around 100k words, and towards the end of year two.

Not my favorite premise but I love your writing so much so more is better.
