Onward - To New Frontiers! (Torchship Playtest Quest)

CHARACTER SHEETS
RULES
LORE BIBLE (WIP)

Seriously y'all, this is an open_sketch/DragonCobolt quest. It's gonna get spicy.
We'll put all the NSFW stuff behind spoilers but like, for real.
Also also: There will be drug use in this quest, it's the space 60s. Many, but not all drugs will be fictional.

[X] Send a probe out to get a closer look at the com array with a focus on the repeater.

Who needs redshirts when you have drones eh?

Edit: Grammer

Could the teleporter just teleport in like a camera-bot we can whip up? I figure something with superficial Mars rover style clunky-ness would match our aesthetics and would be relatively easy for the Star Patrol to fabricate on the go while still being able to do all the technobabble sensor readings for gas based lifeforms and alien superplagues.

This is absolutely doable and completely excellent! Write it in!

[X] Write-in: Teleport a bot into the cargo bay
[JK] Write-in: That engineering super who's really into DIY suggested they kitbash a sensor bot together and teleport it in instead and quickly the rest of the engineering certs joined in the sounds of mad science...

Why is this a joke write-in. This is peak Star Patrol

[X] Teleport a bot in

I am thinking the crew of that ship has some kind of intelligent, biological horror of some sort onboard, like "The Thing from Another World". They cut their communications, sealed the entire ship from escape, and, if I am right, the entire inside of the ship is completely sabotaged beyond repair.

I'm gonna imagine the UAS drones as WALL-E.

I'm pretty wary of teleporting into this spooky thing.

I also sort of think the bot will just fry?

Eh, metal before meat.

Sold. :D

hey so

we literally just left a bunch of hyperadvanced space whales hiding from, it turned out, a memetic cognitohazard. now we've come across a ship floating in space where the mystery is 'why did someone work so hard to totally seal this ship off from the outside world?'

hmmm

hmmmmmm

Maybe we could get the bot's broadcast on a time-delay, with one person watching the live feed. That way if they get the cognitohazard, the rest of us can shut off the broadcast before we witness it.

[X] Write-in: Teleport a bot into the cargo bay
-[x] Limit its return bandwidth or apply filters or whatever to make sure whatever cognitohazard is over there doesn't infect you through the bot's telemetry.

Edit: this is what i get for not reading the comments

You know, that's a good argument against sending a bot in. Or, if nothing else, an argument for a different write-in:

[X] Write-in: Teleport a bot into the cargo bay
-[x] Limit its return bandwidth or apply filters or whatever to make sure whatever cognitohazard is over there doesn't infect you through the bot's telemetry.

[X] Send a probe out to get a closer look at the com array with a focus on the repeater.

This feels too much like an infohazard, putting as many layers of separation as possible between whatever's on that ship and the crew of the Newton is personally what I think to be the best option.

You know if it's actually the song that caused the ship to be stranded then it would have already infected us via the destress signal.

I don't find that likely, for narrative reasons.

But if it did happen, there's going to be answers on that ship.

Nah, TOS didn't do multi-episode plots. It'd be going against the entire spirit of the quest for Erika to do that. :V :p

(I am only being 1% serious here).
