Onward - To New Frontiers! (Torchship Playtest Quest)

CHARACTER SHEETS
RULES
LORE BIBLE (WIP)

Seriously y'all, this is an open_sketch/DragonCobolt quest. It's gonna get spicy.
We'll put all the NSFW stuff behind spoilers but like, for real.
Also also: There will be drug use in this quest, it's the space 60s. Many, but not all drugs will be fictional.

"Well, with my thermals, I can see that your extremities aren't covered," Nhi said, cheerfully. "But it's a really subtle difference, and, like, some people wear thinner clothes, or have warm arms, and stuff, so, it's worth asking! ...but yeah, you're basically a human shaped blur here - the lenses aren't great, but my internal computers help highlight your outline, so it's not like I'm totally unable to operate in a mission situation. The, uh, computer checking is actually better at finding pattern recognition than I am, and it is more consistent - so, for example, did you know I've never been scared by weird shapes in the darkness? My brother says that's a thing, but not for me, cause my implant doesn't trigger unless something's actually there!"
This does raise some questions, because this comes across as a really low quality kind of sight. How does this interact with any kind of console, which tend to be designed for human use and therefore rely on reading text.

[x] The Uniform with the Pants

Pants feel more BOLD TREK EXPLOERER to me.

You turned your glance back out the window at the corona of impossibly bright blue light rippling at the nose of the ship, all the electromagnetic radiation ahead of the ship being blueshifted into gamma rays and then scattered back into the visual spectrum by the prow of the spacewarp bubble and defused by the artificial magnetosphere.
Wow, that poor radiation is being put through quite a workout.
You weren't sure which impression you wanted to make in the science bay. This was your first duty shift, and the Star Patrol uniform had a bit of wiggle room in certain non-functional parts of dress. One of those was the leg accentuation. The traditional outfit, for men and women and enbies of all types, had been counterpressure leggings and top, designed to make a pressure seal in an emergency. But it was the 60s now, baby!
I've only just now realized that she means the 2160s, and we're not in some fantastically advanced alternate 20th century.

Anyway, I am a fan of both skirts AND leggings, so the choice is obvious.
[x] The Uniform with the Miniskirt

[X] Wait, I'm immune to depressurization. Miniskirt WITHOUT leggings!

This feels like the Fun Option to me.

We'll be getting more into it shortly, and why specifically she needs this thing and why it's not just regular vision, but she has workarounds, and there are accommodations like refreshable braille displays.

Is our roommate an android or someone with mechanical eyes?
She's a human with mechanical eyes.

Is there such a thing as a Prime Directive?

A set of rules that keep Space Patrol away from undeveloped civilizations
Kinda sorta
Directive Alpha: Preservation of sapient life
Detective Beta: Non-interference with pre-space cultures
Directive Gamma: In the quite likely event of Space Nazis, punch them in the face!

Note that it is often impossible to do all three at the same time!

Might as well have a minimal amount of fun for all the trouble of being somewhat transhuman. Plus, hey, it's the 60s! Be a little hip; show your... legs. Not your hips. :V

[X]Miniskirt Over Pants because layers are awesome!

I'm voting for this solely because miniskirt and leggings is a cute look.

So, sounds like Nhi got the lenses because she couldn't see with her biological eyes. I'm surprised these are the best available prosthetics. Maybe her family has bad space!health insurance, but maybe the tech just isn't there. Or is there some benefit to this model?

Anyways, I wonder if/how she reads text. Maybe instruments all have those automated braille reader things?

3d mockups - ships of star patrol

I'm making a 3d model of the Newton so you can visualize it better, and because it's cool. this is just the quick mock-up of the shapes.

For comparison, here's one of the 280m exploratory cruisers that are sorta like the Constitution or Galaxy-class for Star Patrol. This is also WIP: only the forward 3rd is finished and detailed.

six G burn anticipated
SIX GEES CONTINUOUS, FUCKING HELL
You turned your glance back out the window at the corona of impossibly bright blue light rippling at the nose of the ship, all the electromagnetic radiation ahead of the ship being blueshifted into gamma rays and then scattered back into the visual spectrum by the prow of the spacewarp bubble and defused by the artificial magnetosphere. Looking out the side ports, you could see smeared images of stars, some of them slowly shifting from the parallax effect and most of them still, their light rendered hazy and distorted, dancing through the temporary gravitational lensing. The stars became reddish toward the trailing edge of the windows, and you knew that if you could look back behind the ship, you'd see nothing, just a yawning blackness, the ship outrunning the light.
Oh man, I love the FTL ships where stuff gets super-blueshifted ahead of you and redshifted off the scale behind you. It's such a cool aesthetic.

As for the vote, one of our major game-mechanical character traits is "Flirty", which means we are absolutely showing off for our coworkers. :D
