I just want to say that I know just about nothing about MGLN and I'm greatly enjoying this fic. It just feels so damn adventurous that it's easily my favorite of any stories I've read recently, even at this early stage in its lifetime.

So kudos to you, Stardust Falcon. And thanks for writing this.

The biggest thing about the Nanoha-verse is that while the characters are 'mages', in the society they live in, Sufficiently Analyzed Magic is the word of the day. Of course there are also a ton of various super-weapons/malfunctioning devices etc left over from the multiple precursor societies. The modern day TSAB is made up of the various planets/societies that manged to survive through the multiuple apocalypses that they've all suffered.

How dangerous are said ancient super-weapons and artifacts? On average they can vary from 'it was a nice city while it lasted' to 'I hope you didn't need that planet'. Doesn't help that more often than not they're glitchy/malfunctioning due to age and/or prior tampering.

Again, there are artifacts that appear to be benign as they were was a episode where people were auctioning said artifacts legally.

Yes but those aren't the ones the TSAB focuses on or that the main cast keeps tripping over.

Seriously, it's no wonder they're keeping a close eye on Earth, the place is like a Lost-Logia sargasso. Ancient gizmos of doom just keep turning up there.:p

First the Jewel Seeds land in/around Nanoha's home town, where the Book of Darkness was already sitting on a little girl's bookshelf. And long before that, SOMETHING had to have caused a TSAB clerk to land in Gil Graham's lap. Geez, I wonder what ELSE turned up on Earth during the timeskip between A's and StrikerS

Oh. Oh crap. @Stardust Falcon Do the TSAB know Earth is a repeating pattern, especially with the trouble magnet part? I feel like there's some poor clerk assigned to Earth only to keep marking down every new Artifact of Doom that pops up, but has to deal with more than one Earth because of a paperwork error not specifying he had to keep to Nanoha's Earth. Taylor's Earth would give the poor hypothetical a heart attack. "WHY DO YOU PEOPLE SNEEZE LOGIA LIKE NOTHING ELSE?!?!?" (Tinkers)

Heh, if the investigators' list of theories doesn't already have "distressed Earth native who stumbled across a Unison Device and decided to make a break for the opposite end of civilization" near the top, someone isn't doing their job.

Well, what went down on Earth during the timeskip isn't going to be part of the story except as oblique references, but let's see...

There was the Eternal Crystal that someone made the centerpiece of a theme park which attracted some nerds from Eltria (this was later made into the Reflection/Detonation movies which exist in canon but the movie's depiction of the events is not canon),
Some rabbit-eared researcher almost caused an international crisis thanks to getting facehugged by an ancient knowledge repository loaded with information on powered exoskeletons complete with a standard complement of unit cores,
The castle everyone thought had been sealed inside of an eclipse by the combined efforts of several people including Gil Graham managed to become unsealed and was only put back with the assistance of a man they called Arikado,
A bunch of AI programmers accidentally tapped into another world at one point,
Nanoha's friends and family probably got sucked into something that would make future good movies I'm forgetting to mention here at least two more times...
No points for IDing each of the references.
Geez.

Earth's a pretty busy place, huh?

Oh dear, this is the Gears of Destiny timeline.

Which means there is a chance that Hayate is a monster at magical combat and is capable of winning a 1v1 with Nanoha.

Although I'm worried about unnecessary plot inflation due to the crossovers.

Infinite Stratos, Castlevania, and Digimon?

Again restating that these are not additional crossovers, yes, those were the references. The TSAB is pretty good at dealing with this kind of thing, so instead of this Earth being a mismash of like twenty different animes by now, it's just normal Earth. Nobody's successfully gotten their aborted Lost Logia-driven anime plot past the 'and then the TSAB kicked my door in and offered me a choice between an R&D posting or space jail, plot canceled' stage of their pilot that didn't get ordered to series.

The Earth-TSAB garrison is a punishment duty because it's "nothing at all happens on this backwater" right up until it's "oh, it's been a year since the last one, here's another Lost Logia crisis right on schedule."

(Edited for clarity.)

EDIT:
I never watched IS and thought that was a Stargate SG-1 reference. Did they have to visit an ancient Al-Hazard outpost named Proclarush Taonas and retrieve a super-battery that was the only thing powering the shields that kept the site intact for so long?

No, but everyone likes to talk about how Third Commander Samantha Carter blew up a sun that one time. TSAB Doctor Rodney McKay, on the other hand, has yet to live down accidentally destroying an entire dimension.

(Insert the distant sound of someone shouting "IT WAS FIVE SIXTHS!")

So... Buffy the Vampire Slayer style Apocalypse Season?

Also @Stardust Falcon on the topic of the Gears of Destiny/ the 3rd and 4th movies, how did that incident turn out?

Essentially the way it was depicted in the movies (so without the portable continuity's time travel), with some key differences:
* Caledfwlch Techniques gave Nanoha lots of money to show off their upcoming line of Fortress equipment in the movie (hooray, advertising!); she didn't have those things in reality
* Nanoha didn't lose an eye or an arm and need cybernetic replacements. This was a creative liberty undertaken both because Nanoha is trying to get away from her memetic Ace of Aces / Unbeatable White Devil status as well as because getting maimed by a self-destructing drone in the process of stopping a satellite cannon from destroying the Earth is a suitably bombastic and heroic way of presenting 'Nanoha was severely injured in the past' to her movies' audience than 'she worked herself too hard and got murked by a drone one time'
* Eltria's toast. The TSAB together with the Materials, Iris, Yuri and the Florian family are working on getting everyone safely rehoused in another dimension on a New Eltria, but that doesn't sound quite as happy as 'and then they managed to fix the planet but uh the government doesn't want you visiting so don't go see for yourself!!'
* Certain individuals may or may not have benefited from a little creative embellishment of their combat capability. These individuals wish not to be named.

Which means there is a chance that Hayate is a monster at magical combat and is capable of winning a 1v1 with Nanoha.

I wonder ... smile emoji

I want to open that spoiler box, but Detonation is completely unavailable in English AFAIK. No one made any camrips while it was in theaters (or at least didn't upload any), so any fansubbers who want to do the movie can't until the blu rays come out (and there's no news on that release date either).

Holy shit, I dropped the series after StrikerS with the exception of reading the summaries for Battle of Aces and Gears of Destiny but holy crap the movie sound insane.

The closest it'll get to relevant is maybe people will reference the EC incident or talk about seeing the movie. But how can I put this without spoilers to satisfy people's curiosity without making them look at climax spoilers...

If there's a thing that happened in the movies that would directly contradict the anime/manga canon (such as gaining new powers), it only happened through movie airbrushing and isn't part of reality.

Ah, another delve into a crossover I know the bare minimum about. So far it's pretty good, I'm eager for the next one.

I'm curious, which part of the crossover are you largely unfamiliar with?

Nanoha's part. I'm the kind of person that gets really acquainted with one particular story, then goes looking for crossovers from that into other stuff I might be interested in.

I'm well acquainted with Worm, so I know all that. I think the most stuff I know about Nanoha came from Lyrical Taylor (before I lost interest and moved on), an FSN crossover and a Persona crossover.

Okay. Well, there have been a few summaries and "what you need to know"s around this thread already, but here are a couple one-line descriptions people have used for Nanoha:

"Sailor Moon meets Star Trek"

"Giant Mecha masquerading as Magical Girls"

It's kind of a deconstruction of typical MG anime. Where the normal thing is "I beat you because of my FEELS!", Nanoha is all about "I beat you because of my TACTICAL DOGFIGHTING and SUPERIOR FIREPOWER."

And it is glorious. :V
